Making up a 12v switch panel and been trying to find out how to wire up the switches. Have seen several videos from different people and they are all different, thank goodness I found yours because it’s the only one that I can follow and makes sense. Thank you.
For those that are still confused: the gold connector goes to a ground. The opposite connector on the switch goes to the battery or power source. The middle connector goes to whatever you're controlling, and in this case it's the light, so it would connect to the red power wire coming from the light he showed in the video. The switch will light up when you have it in the "on" position and the item you are powering up will also turn on. Hope that helps. Here is a good video that is much more clear - ua-cam.com/video/pHdVEFF1VX8/v-deo.html FYI - Always use a good crimper so it makes nice crimps and not ugly loose ones like the ones in the video. Also, don't use the wrong color connector butts for the wire you are using - do the job right, especially if you're going to make a video to show others. Cheers.
I have a question, I used this switch, I cut the negative wire in half (it’s for a particle seperater on a side by side) I cut the negative in half and put one end on the gold and one end on the outter silver. Left the middle one blank. And it works when I turn the switch on it works and the led lights up. The middle pin is blank. I’m confused if it is safe? And why it still works? I’m just using 2 pins , the negative wire only. And the led still lights up.
This comment was very helpful for me that has never installed any kind of lights before but i want to do it on my lawn tractor and i'm just wondering how i should do it if i use a relay and what wire the relay should be connected to? I want to use a relay because i've heard that it is recommended to use. The wiring itself dosn't seems that difficult that i thought it would be thanks to your comment that describes it very good how i should do it.
Best video I’ve seen for wiring these switches as all others say have an extra wire for the ground from the light! I thought you could do it your way and you’ve confirmed it! Thanks!
Nice one geeza, helped me sort out a usb point I added to my RV that I wanted it to have a switch. I could t figure out the 3 prong thing on the rocker switch. So thank you…
Hello, I currently have a device which has a simple 2 pole/prong switch. I want to put in a switch with a light. I recently bought a switch with a light in it like yours. How different is the wiring from a 2 prong to a 3 prong switch?
Very good video Mark. Actually changing a switch like your fitting to a push switch on my motorbike with a diode and its proving to be a really difficult job. Thought I would need the Fire Brigade at one point 😂 Every days a school day Mark.
Every other video has the center post going to the positive power supply from battery and the bottom post going to the device you want to power. Is yours mixed up?
Thanks for your video, I'm going to replace switch on my mini oil heater, but on my original switch has 3 input connections and it's written 1A, 3B, and 4B, how do I know which one +, - and ground? Thanks again
Hi I’ve made one of the boxes with a main switch to power everything in the box but when it’s in the off position it’s still lit up but still works turning on and off the rest of the box is it an easy fix or a faulty switch?
I enjoyed very much watching your Informative Video😊:.Im Curious though as to where You Purchased These Particular Round 3 pole Switches, any leads would be greatly appreciated. Ty in advance 😊
I could be wrong, but I don't thing the two positives matter which one is which, so long as you don't hook either of them up to the ground, it's basically just connecting the two wires.
You swap the live and load wires (on the 2 white connectors). That way power always goes to the switch LED, comes off thru the bottom pin (to the bulb) once you switch the switch ON.
@@MrMeltedwellies I'll tell you what it is Mark, I'm running an led light bar on my truck, using a standard cheap relay off ebay, and using a switch off amazon, the switch seems to require 3 wires going into the back as I'm sure you know, for some reason wether the switch is in the on or off position the led light in the switch is still on, i was hoping there was a way so that the led light wasn't on at all really. Sam
Watch at 7:05 (or 8:00) to learn how the switch works. If you connect your negative straight to the accessory (leaving the golden pin on the switch untouched), that switch LED will never be ON.
I was looking for help wiring an illuminated switch to a USB charger for my motorcycle, and this is exactly what I was looking for. I only have one question though. Why do you need an illuminated switch when it is so close to the actual light which it is operating? The light being on would be enough to show you that it's, well, on. Thanks all the same.
@@MrMeltedwellies will it burn out? Because I have this switch lying around "20A 12V DC" and I was wondering if I could use it on my switchless soldering iron, which is 110V 60W :)
Hi i have that kind of switch and i dont wanna use the light of the switch just want to use it for my usb charger for my motorcycle directed to battery. Witch 3 of the pin should i pull out?
nice instruction for us non electrical type gurus. Trying to add a fan switch that will be turned on when the ATV is being ridden. The oil cooler fan works when I apply direct battery to the red and black wires. I think though that I will need to run a fuse as well for extra protection.
I was a bit stumped by some of these that I bought. Tried using an ohmmeter to check continuity which just tested open no matter which pins I went across. Finally figured out the switch must be powered to work. I assume there is a tiny circuit board with a chip that closes to activate the switch. If someone knows how the electronics work please share, kind of curious.
a thin coat of clear nail polish or similar like acrylic will fix/smooth the scratched top. heat polish in hot water bath, clean area with brush and alcohol first.

finally someone made a simple tutorial for this!
Thanks for the video explained very well I followed along and it works great thanks again

thank you mark i needed to set up two switches on a subwoofer box and this helped me out greatly
You're welcome Gordon
Yes your right about no directions with the switch.. thank you for this video.. very helpful

you dust add power to the extra prong so when you turn it on it gets extra power to the light
The facts man. Just the facts. This video makes it clear and simple.
Thank you the video was very helpful to me as I am doing lights and usb chargers to my boat.
Great video. Just what I was looking for. Keep up the good work 🙂
Thank you. I was looking at a way to light the large tool box on the front of my trailer....
Thank you for sharing this video it's helpful bro 👌❤️❤️
Happy to help

Would a two prong switch work when opening a ethernet cord and putting the switch in the middle. And make a internet cut off switch?
Nice work. Can you post the link of the tiny led lamp?

None, just don't hook up the ground, it's only purpose is for the LED.
I wonder why didn't you just bridge the ground and positive for the LED without using the extended cable?

how about if add add relay 4 pin for protect currect.. can explain the wiring to me.. tq

What if all the prongs are nickel / silver and the instructions are bass ackwards and confusing because there are no clear pictures?
Where do I wire a white wire of my lights have a red black and white wire?
Is it the switch wire, if it is. That goes on the light. And the black wire of the light goes on the battery
Merci bravo
Good on ya mate!
Fuse where???
Get the right coloured wires
Thank u
Tks!
This is incorrect. It will work but it’s wrong. Gold is ground. Middle is positive input. The other outer prong is your output to the accessory.
Awesome!!!!
Are you trying to fry our battery banks?
Thought the gold was the hot

That was totally confusing.

what a load of fannying about, get on with it and just lay it out on the table.
