@@rickhorvath I could care less about that, if I like the song it's cuz I like the song I dont care how it was made I just think this songs a lot cooler than most of what I hear on these tutorials
You have a great way of explaining everything in Logic! When I started in this business as an in-house songwriter for a record company, I used a Fostex X-15 4 track cassette tape recorder, and never had to worry about production when selling the song. NOW my head explodes all the time, trying to get better at even production basics, so I can stay relevant in the songwriting world. I am a die- hard Logic user, and your tutorials make it that much easier. Thank you, and keep up the good work! :)
Man, I have been teaching myself MixBus and watching LUNA tutorials so that I can track in Logic and mix in another DAW for "that sound". Your enthusiasm for Logic and these tutorials are exactly what I need to keep me from wandering off when I don't necessarily have to. I think a lot of us get spooked into believing that the "real" sound of a good mix can only happen with this DAW or that plugin, or some SSL or Neve wannabe - when in the end, every single one of these are emulations on a digital platform (our computers). I've been thinking about setting up a Logic template that has some channel strips with these plugins at the ready, as well as some busses for the same purpose. And then I run across this video! Thanks for what you do - awesome!
Feeling "dumb" for spending money on 3rd party plugins? Welcome to the club. Great tutorial as always. Thank you for not having 80% of your videos just consisting of you talking into the camera. Why is this such a hard concept for content creators to get? Is it just ego?
@@Johnnyhaag79 the YouSuckAtProducing channel is the funniest AND most educational production videos I’ve watched when I started and probably would’ve quit without his humor and including himself for 3 seconds at random parts. Same with Eliminate and his videos but he’s not educating just having fun
The reason everyone in the comments is saying this is the best video on the the topic is because IT IS THE BEST VIDEO by far! This will help me immensely.
I HAVE READ SOME OF THE COMMENTS AND THERE SEEMS TO BE A CONSENSUS OF HOW GOOD YOUR VIDEOS ARE AND I WHOLE HEARTEDLY AGREE WITH THEM, I HAVE WATCHED MANY OF YOUR VIDEOS AND CONCLUDE BY SAYING THAT YOU PROVIDE SOME OF THE BEST TUTORIALS ON THE WEB.
The drive on the Console EQ sounds really nice, even when it's cranked up all the way. I didn't know about the make up gain driving the distortion on the Compressor. That's neat. Great video! I love your enthusiasm for Logic.
I've been using Logic for a couple of years now -- made the switch from ProTools -- and didn't really understand what the output gain on the compressors did! Thanks for such a great tutorial.
I've been following your videos for awhile and I really appreciate what you bring to the learning of logic and mixing. And it's nice to know we don't have to buy all the plug ins that seem to catch our eyes and ears.
Wow, great video! For real... why are some of us spending a lot o money on saturations plugin without trying first our FREE options?! Thanks for bringing this at our attention!
This is so good. I love the way you A/B the plugins for us to hear how it affects the sonic quality. Don't change a thing in your approach... it's perfect!
So glad i found your channel. You are really great at explaining and showing otherwise somewhat difficult subjects in music prod and Logic. Love your positive way to teach! Thanks!
Cross reff'd this with headphone and monitor speakers. Quite a boost was presented over my monitors when you used the compressor / soft distortion compared to my headphones. It's 1 a.m. I should use monitor speakers during tutorials, don't think the neighbors like the volume leverage at this hour ;) Never-the-less, great tutorial and nice tutorial track. TY
9:49 Did you notice that the tape delay plugin is still adding delay even though the delay time and feedback are both set to zero? I checked the other playback instances in this video just to make sure you didn't have delay on the vocal tracks themselves. Nope. It's all that tape delay's fault!
my archaic way of gluing is to give a similar reverb or bus to all of the tracks or the main tracks, other less archaich way was using the vynil plug in
great tutorial!! ...i have already been spending too much on 3rd party plugins...i should pay for attention to logic stock plugins instead. thanks for this!!
Best channel ever...I'm definitely in the boat of having spent thousands on plugins, thankfully most were fabfilter's though which are amazing in their own right and probably not bad to own. Gonna be spending a lot more time with stock plugins after all that you've shared, though, so please keep them coming!
I’m kinda new to mixing. At least inte terms of getting close to now what I’m doing (although I still have plenty to learn) and I think I got my bands rehearsals to sound quite neat. I stumbled upon the graphic eq and just like you said, it really glues everything together. Thanks for a very informative and an easy to understand video. Definitely a subscriber to this channel from now on. :)
I guess for two reasons: 1. It's obvious compared to the tools he showed us. 2. You get more of that analog type saturation this way that would occur naturally when mixing outside the box.
Dude... my freakin Mind exploded. I was like that meme... I never knew that there are like so many saturation types in Logic. I will save every one of these plugins only as a saturation mode. OMG I am so EXCITED xD... btw... can you make a video on the exciter as a special type of saturator??? I think of it as parallel saturation... Especially the Input Gain because you can not adjust it and putting several exciters with different settings in serial.... Great work! Love this channel! Cheers :)
Great delivery on your explanations!! I love subtlies and focus on them in my guitar lessons as well. It's the most subtle things, in playing and recording that add the most impact. Thanks!!
Another great video. Thanks Chris. I too am a recovering plugin junkie and I'm now trying to get back to basics. Thought I'd try a new mix using only Logic's plugins. I know they can certainly live up to the job....and some. Thanks again.
This video is one of the best ... I was about to put my mixes through harrison mix bus. Here is a tip try using the logic Phase distortion plugin in its subtle ways... pretty awesome mix, mastering tool by far.
This is so helpful. Ive never thought of using those plugins in those ways. I’m definitely trying these out later today. Is it better to do this on the stereo output like this or later in the mastering process? Many thanks yet again.
Another great video. Yup, feeling dumb and yet a little more knowledgable all at the same time. It never occurred to me to try the included compressor and vintage eqs purely for saturation.
Real nice vid Chris. Seem to also notice a width effect, esp with Neve emu. Hadn't realized that different comp emus will prob also have diff soft/hard/clip characteristics. Been big fan of soft distortion on Logic comp for 10+ years. And need to integrate the new Vintage EQs and PhatFX into my workflow bit more. Subbed.
Could you please do a video on ways you can help make the kick and bass in your mix sound good on small speakers, like your phone? I am sure people would be interested in it!
Great video! I could never figure out how to do saturation with Logic's stock plugins, and this video perfectly answered my question. Also, what song is that? I want to hear the finished version!
Hi, in your opinion what free plugins should I use added to logic plugins? Is there something free better than Logic plugins or that Logic doesn't have?
Why Logic Pro Rules -Hey man, I have a 2015 Mac. I have never updated it. But I want what your Logic updates have. Should i let the updates happen? I have had many peole tell me to avoid updates...
Dunno if this will help -- I have a 2012 Macbook, which allows me to upgrade the RAM and hard drive (I can open the bottom cover and swap out those parts very easily). When I updated the OS from whatever 2012 OS I had to Mojave, my laptop was going extremely slow to the point of being unusable (I'm talking load times of >10 minutes for any application I tried to open). I've upgraded the RAM from 4GB to 16GB, and that helped a ton. I'm able to use Logic Pro just like normal and rarely have issues. Only issue now is the hard drive, which I need to upgrade to an SSD in order to increase initial app load speeds and some other stuff (just an optimization at this point, since it's usable anyway). Not sure if parts are self-replaceable in your 2015 Macbook, but that's a major consideration depending on whatever current hardware you have (RAM and hard drive).
It's great to see someone using stock plugins, but you are wrong about the distortion in the Logic Compressor. It sounds the same with all the different compressor models. You can try this by using two different ones in parallel and flip the polarity on one. They completely cancel out.
After watching any one of these videos I just get terribly excited about opening up Logic again
This is far and wide the best song used in a logic tutorial.
For real. The song gets me that I come back to watch the tutorial over and over. So silky.
Reminds me of Brand New
sounds a lot like american football
Agreed. It’s an actual song with real instruments. How long have we been searching, right?

The song is called "Threw It Into The Ocean" by Brotherless. Available on Spotify and their Bandcamp page.
1:36 vintage EQ saturation
6:48 compressor saturation
8:40 tape delay saturation
11:04 phat FX saturation

Definitely ego, most people want to be known (seen). True educators are here to educate the people:)
Exactly. Like real estate agents selling their faces instead of the house.
There's no harm in being seen. It's important that one sells themselves as much as they sell their content.

I've had the verse stuck in my head for days!! Where can I listen to this song other than here? I've been trying to find it!
Why don’t you use or feature the overdrive distortion plugin for saturation?
I guess for two reasons:
1. It's obvious compared to the tools he showed us.
2. You get more of that analog type saturation this way that would occur naturally when mixing outside the box.
Due to £ reasons, I'm using a pair of old PC speakers, I even noticed the difference when you turned on the plugins
