Thank you for this super helpful video! My old closet system that came with my home just came crashing down recently and I just ordered the Rubbermaid Configurations. I do NOT want them to fall again!
Glad it helped!
My wife wants these but has a LOT of soothes to hang on there. Do you know what the estimated weight capacity is?
From their website it looks like 300 lbs per upright for this type of system, assuming it is installed properly of course www.rubbermaid.com/home-organization/closet-systems/adjustable-closet-systems/expandable-closet-kit/SAP_2060344.html
@@toolsandrepairs awesome. Thank you for the info and link. Great video btw.
This is a great video!
Thank you!
For the horizontal piece, how many screws should be used ? 1 screws
every 5 holes?
At every stud, but where there are no studs, like the ends, you should use drywall anchors
@@toolsandrepairs ok thank you! wasn't sure if there was a minimum # of bolt we needed.
The fact that Rubbermaid doesn't have a video out there is pure poor customer service
Helpful video, thank you!
What is that blue thing on your forehead?
Thanks, it's a sponge headband to keep the sweat out of my eyes
@@toolsandrepairs Oh good, Thats what I was hoping it was. I need one of those. :D
Why can't the vertical brackets just go wherever studs are? Is specific spacing necessary with certain attachments?
It's mainly held by the horizontal bracket which is screwed into the studs. Some of the vertical bars may be screwed into studs, but there will be some that won't line up
@@toolsandrepairs Thanks. My main question is- is a reason I couldn't just place them where the studs are? Is the placement between studs sometimes necessary ?
If I remember correctly the shelves are a certain fixed width which may not be 16" or 32" so while the cleat can be screwed into the studs, the vertical bars, which are spaced the width of the shelves will not always be on a stud. Plus the custom width of the closet will affect where they are, so you'd need to use the spiral anchors included or use toggle bolts on those vertical bars @@ccbowers
@@toolsandrepairs Thanks for the response. I know it has been a while since you installed it. I think the best thing for me to do is lay it all out, look at what I have, and see if the stud locations work given the shelf/accessory placements. Those supports don't necessarily have to be right at the very ends of the shelf if the stud is very close, but if they are far, then drywall anchors will be needed for best location
How about on concrete walls let me know thanks
This can be installed on concrete walls but it doesn't come with concrete anchors. As long as the anchors are installed properly, the anchors can hold up a lot of weight.
The anchor type that came with the kit are garbage. Very disappointed with that part. Had to switch to a better type,
I agree, and the wood screws provided weren't even the correct screws for the drywall anchors. I used at least one toggle bolt for each vertical bar to prevent it from ever pulling away from the wall.
I used about 25 toggle bolts total. Strong
You can say that again.... if you tighten a bolt into the anchors provided to the torque you'd expect to achieve with ANY OTHER drywall anchor, you will rip it straight out of the wall (which will leave a big hole that NO DRYWALL ANCHOR can fill).
I'd recommend going with something like Toggler screw type anchors (the larger ones are rated for nearly 80lbs and they tighten just like a screw placed into a stud would)
Why do I feel like I can't do this 🤦🏾♀️ lol
You can do it if you're comfortable drilling into your wall and properly securing the anchors and screws. Other than that, it's just like basic furniture or shelves assembly
@@toolsandrepairs thanks. I ordered the stud finder, level, and toggle bolts yesterday. I'm going to do it!
