Great video! I was a little nervous with this new kit. My old one had a different support system and I didn't know how these would hold up in my laundry room. Once I found the studs I held extremely well. I'm very happy with it. Thank you.

Very clear instructions make this exactly what I was looking for. But even better yet, Caesar has done a fantastic job of making a UA-cam video. I say this because this video shows you ALL the work that goes into the HARD STEPS, then 'FAST FORWARDS' through the EASY stuff (e.g., every stroke of hammering anchors, drilling holes from beginning to end). So many videos show all the of hammering, screwing, drilling... but then jump from 'before' to 'after' on the hard steps. Great job Caesar. I have subscribed to your channel.

Thanks, I'll use your technic here in my closet wire shelving project where the existing one in the home collapsed. However, in the garage I'd go with the bracket shelving setup and drilling the tracks directly into the studs.

    Thanks for the video.
I would recommend the metal stud clips you can buy separately. It does require extra expense and 2 holes for every clip instead of 1. Do these at every stud location and in between use the plastic clips with wall anchor sleeves. You have to cut off the clip expanders with wire cutters then as well.
Our shelving fell as these plastic pieces fail. The plastic is not durable over time and will harden and weaken. It takes a long time, but they will fail.
Your video is very helpful. Thanks for posting.

Just had one of these wire shelves fall down with this exact install. I didn't realize the installer didn't put any wall anchors upside down so as to keep it from flipping out of the anchors. It fell at 3 a.m. with quite a bang.
Again install wall hangers from the top and bottom on the wall to keep it from popping out and falling.

I give this 9 of 10 rating. The only thing I'd suggest is to drill the pilot holes into the wall using a small bit like 1/16 or 1/8 so if you hit a stud you can adjust your plan. If you already drilled the bigger hole, you can't switch up your approach. Found this out the hard way on another project lol

    • @sojourner650
      @sojourner650 2 роки тому

P.s. if you didn't hit a stud then you drill the bigger holes right where you made the small ones

Thank you. The fellows that installed the shelf did something wrong as it completely collapsed and I don't think I had 60 pounds on it. The plastic things that the nails went into hadn't expanded as you said they would. I'm going to hang the shelf myself and try to make it more secure with more fittings for the shelf to hang on and more of the brackets. Fingers crossed this holds.

What if we don’t have drywall? Would everything go straight into the studs AND would I still need to use the anchors?? I plan on putting these in the laundry room and there is no drywall in that room.

I replaced the small plastic wall clips with steel "U" shaped hooks that took too screws to mount. I installed a 1/2" x 3" board to the wall studs. Then I mounted the hooks. They can handle a lot more weight than 90 pounds.

People will make their own choices but, for the reasons mentioned below, this installation method is NOT recommended. It is troublesome enough to take the time to explain why this method is NOT recommended.
With VERY few exceptions, shelves should be installed using the strongest installation method when installed and taking material fatigue over time. Every method and material has its inherit weaknesses. Over time plastic hangers fail and nails work lose, etc.
Future owners/tenants won't know if the shelves were installed into the studs or through the the drywall. In the end, it won't matter because whatever items they have that need to be stored will end up on that shelf regardless. They will just make an assumption about how strong the installation method is and throw whatever items they need to store on the shelves without bothering to inspect the shelves. It is quite possible they will throw two, three or more times the load limit on the shelves and then, when the shelves don't fail immediately, assume all is well.
Then, perhaps years after the shelves were installed, when they are sleeping snug and warm in their bed next to their wife, husband or significant other, dreaming of that special someone they knew back in high school, they might feel the bed shake (which will conveniently match the theme of their dream) hear a loud crash without end and wake up and open their eyes to see their s/o giving them a strange look wondering why their own private Master Craftsman is yelling their high school sweetheart's name in the dark as the word appears to be coming down around them. That just seems to be the natural order of things.
Lastly, tenants SHOULD NOT alter the structure unless they are absolutely positive they have the corresponding knowledge, skills and abilities to achieve the task correctly. Their confidence level should match the cost to make any necessary repairs should the landlord take issue with their workmanship and insist the installation and demand it be repaired.
RECOMMENDATION: Buy a stud finder and USE IT. To verify you have located a stud, use a straight pick that looks like it came from a dentists office (because it did since you took it with you after the conclusion of your last visit) or bought as part of a Test Probe Set from Harbor Freight for $3.99 - which you also did so you would have a safety pick in case one broke.
Locate a stud using the stud finder. Take the pick and push it straight through the drywall. The pick will slide nicely through the drywall if you have not - try again. You will meet resistance if you have indeed found a stud - congratulations you stud! Now, and this makes everything go much faster after you do it a few hundred thousand times, mark off the other studs knowing studs are usually located 16" on center. Measure from what you perceive to be the center of the stud you found. Check the marks with the pick. It only takes a second and avoids repairing wall ventilation from drilling holes in the wrong location.
Hopefully, this provides adequate explanation of the concerns and a method to make you confident enough to install your shelves correctly.
