10:04 you can actually remarry the disk drive if you put a new one on there but you’d need CFW to do, put it in factory service mode first then click remarry option. This didn’t fix my issue though

That's exactly what my drive is doing! And the same model, or at least the same disc drive. Haven't heard many people mention the false eject type noise. Mine was reading blurays fine a month or two ago, but suddenly wouldn't play a new bluray I bought and no audio on another. Thought the disc was faulty and got a refund on it (also thought my unit was playing other blurays fine though... Feel kinda bad about it even though it was only $10.) I was thinking about going ahead and just replacing the laser mechanism, but gonna clean the original lens w alcohol first. That's always done the trick in other old disc drives. If that doesn't work, just gotta pinpoint the mechanism model number, drop $30 on it and hope for the best. Good to know about the remarrying thing with new complete disc drives too. Heard the term in passing, but I thought it was maybe for non-OEM-spec drives or something.
Did cleaning the laser lens fix your problem? My PS3 does this as well. It sometimes won’t read a game and will make the eject noise without actually ejecting the game, but sometimes they load up just fine.
Friend of mine wanted to play some PS3 games with me, so I grabbed the old buddy after some years of non-usage. Sadly I now have the exact same issues as your friend had with his, as in not recognizing Blu-Ray discs (funnily enough it still recognizes DVDs) and the same spinning behavior. Some other videos on the issue claim that a PS3 system restore fixed it for them and after 7 hours of the PS3 doing its thing, it sadly didn't help me. Next I'll try cleaning the lens and if that won't help, I'll have to decide if I'll get a replacement lens or a still working PS3 from the used market. Either way, your video is very helpful and shows what to look out for. Thank you!
If it is still recognizing dvds but not blu-rays' there is a really good chance it is just the laser for the blu-ray discs. The ps3 slim has 2 lasers in its disc drive. One for dvds and one for blu-ray.

I can confirm this method works like a charm! Basically you need to lift up the ps3, almost at a 45 degree angle . And if that doesn’t work, lift it up higher till it’s 90 degrees

My slim does this too except with CDs and PS1 discs it spins, sounds like it is ejecting then stops spinning. PS3 and Bluray discs play fine. So looks like I will be replacing the laser assembly as well. I can run my games from the hard drive via CFW but I'd like to have a fully functioning system. Plus I can clean out the dust and repaste the CPU/RSX.
@@ScientificZoom The first time I opened up a PS3 fat 60GB model to take the disc out cause it got the YLOD I just put it back together without alighting any gears cause it was under warranty from GameStop. Now I can fix it within an hour cause I got a lot of practice doing it. The first time I worked on a PS4 drive it took me all night to get it working back again, It took it apart like 60 tries to make it work. I used to work for a pawnshop and they gave me the PS4 to try to fix it because it was taking the disc but not ejecting it. The PS4 has an even more complex drive specially the fat PS4.
@@mortalballdc whats the real reason that legacy console such as ps3 slot blu ray drive can't be able to read discs, is it an alignment error in assembly or error in controlling circuitary, even may be dual lens it contains (dvd/blu ray). Also have a question regarding the vertical orientation of console and the if the system run at a longer period especially using a detected disc playing seems to read most undetectable discs.
@@mortalballdc i tried to check the drive earlier six years ago, possibly understood the inner workings but unable to do anything so dropped the console to the repair shop and got an used drive, it still do have issues too. Sony isn't seems concerning these kinds of important issues, also the community is upholded some best features with cfw, such as fan control, webman, irisman, addons etc. along with Rsx tweaking utility

I have the second original PS3. The first original had 60 GB hdd, and the second had 80 GB. I bought it in 2007 I believe. Now ot won’t read DVDs or game discs, but reads blu-rays fine. I believe the PS3 had 2 laser systems? So my guess is, that the one for dvds and game discs has expired?

Today I got a PS3 slim from Goodwill. Goodwill had some TV's so I tested it the machine. It worked just fine with a Batman PS3 game I found at the store. The CD was accepted and it loaded up, no problem. In fact I played for about 5 minutes. The machine and controller it came with were kinda dirty, so tonight I cleaned them. The controller works well. So far, so good. Anyway, turns out the Batman game from Goodwill was the previous owners as its info was stored onto the counsel. Just like earlier today, I played it for a bit and then watched a DVD. So far so good! THEN I discovered a problem. When I attempted to play my copy of FIFA the game wouldn't load. The game was accepted into the PS3, but after a few seconds the machine made the same CLUMP noise as in your video. So now I'm wondering what's going on. How come the DVD and Batman worked? In another repair video the guy said to perform a machine restore followed up with an update and supposedly it would fix the problem. Any advice? Thank you.
I'm looking for some pointers on a weird issue my ps3 is having. I have the same model you are working on in the video but mine is not ejecting disk. The power button works fine but the led for disk detection isn't coming on. The strange part is that it's taking disk fine and dvds word and play fine. I can only get them to come out by doing a soft eject using the triangle button though. Pressing the eject button beeps 3 times like nothing is in there. It's having some problems reading blu ray disks but they are working off and on. If the drive can't read the disk it's getting stuck because the detection isn't working. Any help would be much appreciated!
Greetings, I was doing maintenance on my PS3 and the flex or heads of the Blu-ray reader were damaged, when I tried to connect it they were already damaged, I have the CECH 2501A console and I need to buy now those FFC/FPC Flexible Flat Cable Ribbon flex cables, but I see 2 differences in these cables 'Forward Direction' or 'Reverse Direction', for the 8 pin cable and the 14 pin cable which is the correct option to avoid making a mistake when buying?

Someone suggested when loading disk to tilt up the PS3 about 60 degs and the disk will drop in properly so the Lazar can read it. Worked for me but needs to be fixed.
I have this very similar issue with my PS3 slim, but idk why after turning it on it won’t read the disc. It tried to spin and it kinda does but then after trying it completely gives up. If I leave the ps3 turned on heating up a bit after like almost 2 hours(or maybe even less time) after it’s heated up, the ps3 will read any disc just fine. Idk maybe dusty laser idk tbh

I have a similar issue right now, and I wish to hear your thoughts on it: My original PS3 slim BR drive could not pull in discs, so I took out its daughter board and put it inside a 2nd drive, but still got the same result (discs would not be pulled in). I took that 2nd drive and put another daughter board inside it, and it started pulling in discs... but nothing pops up on screen. Does this mean the original daughter board is dead and I have to reprogram the other daughter board to be recognized by my PS3 as the "original" one?
It would be better to give it to somebody that has experience working with mechanical drives like me. Or you have to have a lot of patience and focus to do that but better to hand it to someone with experience. They will make it work for you 100%
@@elvampe13 the daughter board is very rare that would stop working. It is like 1% chance out of 100% that the daughter board would break. You have to use the original daughter board.

Got a slim from a friend that sat for about 2 years before I got a drive for it(had forgotten about it). When I finally booted it up and tried a disc nothing worked no blu-ray or DVD. I'm on this video due to not knowing how to disassemble the drive without damaging it. Mine was super clean looked like it was taken out the box yesterday was never disassemble either. The reason my drive wasn't working was because their was a massive paperclip stuck to the magnets next to the drive so was a easy fix. That's for the video helped me with the disassemble of the drive.
As far as I know, you can't flash earlier BIOS versions than you currently have on the system. But you can update from an earlier version. There are probably BIOS installers for different versions archived somewhere online. There might be a manual installer on Sony's website for the latest version too - but if you do have an earlier version and update to the latest, that might block you out of some custom mod options

I think every action has several loopholes n wekapoints along with their advantages

Think along and may discover every drive went with same state, if i was that level learned system knowledge definitely would have the problem solved earlier. They somehow managed to block both lenses of dvd n blu ray to do so

really simple screws on the bottom then the covered screw for the hard drive. two t9 bits then lift the top super simple

I hate working on those PS3 slim drives. If you open them up you have to reset the drive again or it won’t work or take discs in. They are a nightmare

Hi is the cech 2501A and cech 3000 series interchangeable cuase the have the same drive and do you need to change anything on them if you know maybe.

If the second drive works, you may just need to 'remarry' the drive to the motherboard. Which I've heard can be done with custom firmware?

The you have the 25xx or 30xx model. Doenst need swapping daughter boards. Just swap drives
