- In this quick video I'm going to show you how to update the screen files on your Ender 3 v2. This video is designed to be a follow on from the Jyres firmware update so go and check out that video first if you haven't already. If you just want to know how to update your display files then you can do exactly the same process but use the display files that match your printer's firmware.

I was also having display upgrade issues that were getting frustrating.
Let me first say I'm a retired guy about three weeks into this new "hobby" and I'm loving it. Ricky, I appreciate your work and have found your info on my Ender 3 V2 really, really helpful.
The Jyers firmware upgrade went great (and I like it a lot) but I had all kinds of problems updating the screen files. Did everything twice: full format of two 8g SD Cards with 4096 allocation, etc., etc., but it was like the display never "saw" the SD Cards or files.
I did quite a bit of poking around and have found there are a variety of Display PCB boards in use. Some have no "V" number, there are V1.20 and mine, maybe because it's newer(?), is a V1.40. The version is on the lower right corner of the PCB near the SD Card slot.
I found another thread discussion on the issue and came across a "fix" that immediately worked for me. It seems the "newer" version boards don't look for "DWIN_SET". There's a ZIP file is "private" as the file name and that's what this new version board "looks" for.

I tried the zip file, renamed the set "private", dropped it onto the SD Card and the upgrade went through just fine.

Great info but after 3 attempts I gave up then started reading the comments and I read Pat Moore's comment about the updated board in the screen.. mine is Rev1.5 which I think made it the issue, as my Ender3v2 machine is brand new as of November 2022. I followed Pat's link and got the new display firmware file and it worked a treat the first time.. yipee... I think Ricky, maybe you need to make an updated video about this.. Thanks for your help and the videos you do make they have helped a newbie lots.
The 3x different folders are for different icon sets, to preview them look in the "Icon Packs" folder

I had a lot of difficulty with getting the display to work appropriately until I watched this and saw the "allocation unit size 4096 bytes" and then it worked as intended. I had to go from my Mac to Windows PC to do this easily, at least for me. It is worth a try if you are having the trouble that I was having. Good luck!

Great video, I was having the same issue as Pat Moore, the display would not read ds card. I followed the link in his post, downloaded the "private" firmware, and it worked great.

FYI different versions have different icons and the different icons in packs can be viewed in the "display firmware\icon packs folder"

I may be having a stroke but even after switching to the 4k I couldn't successfully get it to flash. but since it's just a cosmetic I'll suffer in silence for now. TYSM for showing all of these in a step by step. getting all of these extra options is absolutely mind blowingly helpful.

Download, unzip, copy to usb fat32 format 4k the entire private folder, just leave the private text on the usb, then insert the sdcard under the display, turn on the printer and the installation will start, load the percentage icons in red, the icon texts, the installation will end, then the creality text will be turned off, remove the sdcard and turn on the printer, the new icons will be colored nicely done..
@David coxino Update! It was the type of SD card I was using that failed every time. when I switched to a SanDisk it worked like a charm. originally I was using a Netac
Now it works! ..you have to format your SD-Card with 4096 bytes Allocation unit size ..and you have to format it in windows.
Make sure your SD card is formatted to 4k mb, mine was like 12k and wouldnt get icons, didnt have to name it private tho
There are a good portion of Ender 3 V2 3D printers shipping with the old Ender 3 S1 displays that require a “private” folder. Sadly, for whatever reason, there is only one “private” folder that works which is the stock UI. Interesting if there are other options on those screens.
Oh really? I hadn't come across that yet. Hopefully there will be an option for those screens soon.
@@RickyImpey Yep, actually i own one of those printers with DACAI screen's PCB and btw those screens are unable to show a model preview before printing.

I could be wrong on this, but, in the process of waiting for the screen to turn from BLUE to ORANGE to confirm the flashing process of the chipset on the screen PCB, mine would never flash over and just load up as it did in blue. I messed with this about 30 to 40 times transferring files, only to scroll in the screen menu to the "INFO" tab, to see that (Speculation) Creality ENDER 3 v2 that has been released this past month, when I got mine directly from their authorized US warehouses/resellers, and it already comes with the "screen up-date" of the DWIN-set from the factory? Todays date is 12-29-2022. My main PCB is V4.2.2 and the chip set is the RET6/512KB memory.
I gotta say, I have no clue of what the factory screen looks like, but that "INFO" tab reads that JYERS in on the screen chip set already, unless, even the old version was titled that was as well?... NO NEED TO REPLY, unless I am wrong, which is possible? Again, Thank you, as I am having so much fun playing with this stuff, and still haven't printed a single thing.. I now need to figure out why my Z-axis doesn't work and will only work for about a half inch.

Hi, it shouldn't be possible to brick the printer. You will just need to load the original Creality files back on if it didn't work for you. There are some different hardware configurations coming from the factory now, unfortunately some of them need a little more fiddling with.
@@RickyImpey I managed to fix it, my screen is a DACAI screen, which doesn't use the "dwin" folder, and the files are different apparently. I dug deep, and managed to find the files that fixed my screen, great content nonetheless.

@@Tumathy Where did you find the files that fixed your DACAI screen? I am currently running Marlin 2.1.2 with the CrealityUI. I used the private folder (from Marlin 2.1.2) on my DACAI screen, however text is not displaying (icons do work). I think the text is sent by the motherboard to the screen, so could you also specify which version of Marlin you are running. Thank you in advance!

Also, do not use Jyers, use E3V2 professional firmware, it's miles better and has Dacai display files.
Hi Rick! I have a quick question, how can I revert the screen software to its original state? The screen button of my printer isn't working as it should and it jumps to random numbers when I try to set the offset or the temperature. The software I currently have works in "real-time" with these parameters and I can't control the printer very well with it.
So I wanted to ask you if you know where I can get the OG files of the screen software. Thanks!

Hi, I tried updating the firmware on the screen both according to this video and using the private folder. However, when I do it I get a weird looking screen with no images and only text. I've tried also renaming the DWIN as private, and renaming the private folder as DWIN to see if anything would change, but still no luck. Any ideas on what to do?
I previously had the firmware on my screen working fine, but ever since changing to 2.1.1 my screen just isn't looking right. Do we think it might be an issue with the firmware on the motherboard end?

how do i change the allocation unit size on mac
Nvm, I copied all the files from one of the pack icon folders to the DWIN_SET (Original) and tried again, display works great.
Are you still using the Jyers update even though it's an abandoned project? or are you planning on using the MRISOC update?
Hi, I'm currently running Klipper on my E3V2 which I'll show in a very soon to come video. If i were to go back to Marlin then yes, I would probably try MRISOC as a lot of people say it is good. I had no problems with Jyers myself though. Very solid for me.

so does ex fat work because that is what my sd card has and I think maybe that is the issue

if you are wondering how to get your allocation size to 4092 if you don't already have it, right click on your windows icon then go to disk management and find your sd card. Find a tutorial on the rest of the steps💪🏾💪🏾

Is there a way to erase everthing that is in the LCD memory? As I have tried all 3 of the Dwin firmware set and the LCD doesnot display properly.
Sorry to hear you are having issues. I don't know of a way to 'erase' everything but i'm not sure you would want to do that anyway. Would you can do is return to the stock Creality screen files that can be found on their download page.

My screen doesn’t seem to be updating even with reformatting the SD card.
What's happening when you turn it on with the card in? Are you getting the orange screen?

@@stateofsoul4557 That happened to me when the SD card wasn't formatted correctly. Have you double checked it's formatted as in the video? Also, check out the pinned comment above by Pat Moore. There are some display boards that won't 'see' the SD card so you may need to follow the link and try the alternative method Pat used.

@@stateofsoul4557 I haven't seen the results of the method you have used I'm afraid. The screen files only change what you see though. However, you should see quite a lot of difference with the usability of the machine now you have Jyers UI. Enjoy!
I'm using this firmware from last 11 months and facing trouble with the resume print feature. Whenever there's a power outage it doesn't shows the resume print option instead it shows the home screen. Or can you please guide me on how to downgrade the printer firmware to the stock one.

I know it's late but just in case you wanted to try Jyers again, go to control>advanced settings and scroll all the way to the bottom to enable power loss recovery

No, you have to update the firmware when you install a bed probe. You might as well do the screen files too.

Hi Ricky, have watched the video, i dont know whats wrong with my printer at moment, was using it last weekend in the evening doing a Chucky print, when i went to do my next print the following morning i switched it on and it come up with the Creality icon on the lcd screen but nothing else as i know a white bar scrolls across the lcd screen then the menus come up. i am puzzle and hoping i can fix it without spending to much money on it if needs fixing another way. is it the firmware or. i dont know if you are fimiliar with this sort of problem but if you are, could you let me know on what i can do to rectify the problem, i had subscribed to your channel about a year ago but when i come onto this video i see that i was no longer subscribed for some reason. i await your reply if you wouldnt mind please, take care and maybe speak soon
Hi, had you successfully switched to Jyers firmware or were you on Creality firmware? Either way, I would try updating both the screen and control board firmware if i were you. Let me know more details of what you have etc. if you need more help.

Not sure yet, no. I think they are probably just different themes.
Just did some quick rooting around and it seems that it is just a difference between the file icons. You can dig into the subfolders under 'Icon Packs' to actually see what the images are they each use. I'd suppose you could also create you own custom packs and recompile the firmware with whatever images you wanted.

Any way to get end of print sound with Jyers? I've been running it for about a year and really like it over stock. I've been trying to get end of print beep since I've upgraded to quiet fans and don't notice when it finishes. I just went back to stock fw and it will beep when finished printing but the UI is terrible after using Jyers plus the stock one beeps everytime I press the knob for enter.
Hi, it should be possible to add a beep with a g-code command in your slicer but it's not something I've done myself. I've just switched to klipper firmware on my E3v2 so I can't even test it myself right now.
@@RickyImpey After some poking around in the menus I think I figured out why I was not getting a beep at end of print with Jyers, I had turned beep off so I didn't have to hear the annoying beep every time I pushed the knob for ok/select. I've since changed fw again back to creality because they have a tailored made one for the sprite hot end upgrade. , I will probably change once I get everything running good with the new hot end. I don't like to do too many changes at one time. The new hot end mostly worked good in Jyers but there are 2 x wheel screws and nuts on the new hot end that hit the bracket on the right side of the gantry. Creality fw accounts for that and doesn't run the hot end far enough to hit. I have not found a setting in Jyers to limit max x travel so I'm stuck with stock for a little while I guess.
The end of print beep does work with Jyers as long as you don't turn the LCD beeper off. Even when it's turned off the thermal alarm definitely still works. The line to add to your end gcode is M300 S932 P300 if you want a short beep.
hi ricky, i have done all the steps and when i go to update the display screen to have the icons nothing is happening it just goes straight to the jyers and i have done all the formating to fat32 and tried about 5 sd cards and it still it won't update or change the icons, have you any ideas on how to sort this out thanks....

@@RickyImpey yes I did see it Ricky and thanks for replying back and everything is ok now the only thing I did forget to do was put in my esteps after calibrating them last night but that's all ok now just have to sort this stringing out as I'm doing a test print at 190 and 60 bed thanks again 👍

My screen looks like that from the first time I installed it. Is this update different than the first one.
There are not new screen files as far as I am aware. This is mainly for anyone who hasn't changed the firmware or updated the firmware without also doing the screen files.
