Man, I can't believe I only found your channel like a week ago. Love your videos and watching the used price to performance videos. Gives me a lot of inspiration and ideas for how I can do my own builds. Currently working on an i7-3820 with an Intel LGA2011 stock cooler, a X79 Motherboard and 8GB of DDR3 and a few other things for just $99 USD. Also I believe that's a Cooler Master Storm Trooper case. I got one back on 2015 for my first new computer build. I personally regretted the decision a lot as my first case I picked out when I entered computer building. There were an insane amount of cables due to the fan controllers, the power LED used a molex connector I believe. A bunch of things I just wasn't ready to deal with when I first started out 4 years ago. It was roughly $150 new when I bought it. How you described how it would "look" was pretty much my exact thinking when I bought it, too. Another side note about that case is that the hard drive mounting cages and can be rotated completely so you can change the air flow to the front of the case as opposed to the side if you want. There's a little black bar that's held in by two screws that need to be removed to do so.

It's revision 1.0. It's printed on the motherboard itself. I just find it so mindboggling that the 1.0 is compatible with the E5-1650 V1 Sandy Bridge and up to the i7-4960X processor, but not compatible with the E5-1650 V2 Ivy Bridge. I'd do my own research on google, but for the most part I can't find really anything on this motherboard (that's in english anyway) Both Revisions 1.0 and 1.1 use the F13W BIOS for Ivy Bridge compatibility, however the Rev 1.0 says it does not support the Xeon Ivy Bridge CPUS, whereas the Rev 1.1 does. It makes my brain melt a little. I'll probably just play it safe and get a 1650 v1 as I can't really afford to get the v2 and have it not work on the board. XD @@thetrueinferno7993
Have you ever considered getting some cheap black cable sleeves for these cheap power supplies, also get a large pack of black sata cables, so that you don't add to the "Ketchup and mustard" look, I think it would add a lot of value to the builds.
Was going to suggest this or some black cable shrink wrap would also help clean up the visible parts of the PSU cables. Cheap way to clean up the look.

@RavenPrecept i never said they were modern. I got them from replacing cpu coolers at my customers. Usually the fan breaks down, and so you gotta replace the whole cooler. I saved the heatsinks, cos they have copper cores... :)

That's a Cooler Master Storm Trooper. FYI, you can rotate the hard drive cages to the front if you want. A radiator can be mounted both on the top and bottom of the case. It also has a 2.5 hard drive slot on the top/ front that can hot-swapped. Very functional case.

The same Polaris Chip is on that card you can Bios Flash it to a 570s to get some more power out of it, though it's sometimes a tricky process and it's smart to choose the slower 570 and tweak from there... Just to be careful as the tolerances are a bit different but not by much.
Yeah, you can get unlucky and it might not work, it depends on the silicone quality and what vendor the card is from compared to the bios you want to put on. Also beware of the different memory types.
Loving the Tech YES cleanse! You make those parts SHINE to be sure! That case is just stellar, and even though the motherboard looks absolutely lost with all that space, it looks freaking amazing!
Here's my directions to myself for updating the bios on that motherboard outside of windows: 1. Download BE0048 bios zip 2. make the usb bootable 3. copy the iflash and bio file and anything else on the zip onto the usb 4. Put it into the pc and let it start might have to hit f10 to boot from usb. 5. type IFLASH2 /pf XXX.BIO /rb xxx is the bios name make sure to capitalize 6. Do the same for BE0099 7. computer will now freeze at bios because intel is friggin stupid. 8. Unplug and take out the damn cmos battery, and bios jumper wait for awhile. 9. do the 120 bios version on the usb leave the bootable stuff on from rufus of course, but this time you don't need to type anything, leave the cmos battery and bios jumper out, and start the pc, wait for it to flash automatically. 10. Turn off, Put back in battery and bios jumper and restart and you good boi, change clock in bios. 11. Do this all without the video card installed. This process will need to be done with a second gen (Sandy Bridge Pentium/i3/i5/i7) to use a 3rd gen cpu.
Did you ever consider buying some black sleeving tube to cover ketchup and mustard power supply cables? I've never tried it but I feel like it shouldn't be very hard to do, just hard to get a hold of some perhaps. Put sleeving over the cables, finish with heatshrink.
Intel and Microsoft do their best to keep people from messing with things. I have the same case in White. It was a very expensive case to purchase. You got a fantastic deal on it.. A case like that can be used for any kind of build and motherboard since its so big. Another tip/ trick is that you can rotate the side facing fans to the front by doing a bit of work and unbolting the unit and rotating it to face in from the front. This made a huge difference in air flow the case also has a fan controller if you got it with the box. Then you can use the button on the front top to change fan speeds.
Yes can fix it, just fully clear cmos with the jumpers and no battery and it should also clear NVRAM. I did the same thing with a dell motherboard but got it back. Hopefully intel brand motherboard is like dell for that

Idk where you live exactly but at least here in the US I get deals like this fairly often in DC and Philly. Cities with a large middle/upper middle class sell this stuff pretty cheap on FB marketplace and Craigslist. Probably just people who don't know what they have and aren't bothered to figure out since they're already making $90 an hour at their day job anyways. They just want the computers gone.
@@sillyducky1049 "Probably just people who don't know what they have and aren't bothered to figure out since they're already making $90 an hour at their day job anyways. They just want the computers gone." If a person using your scenario above makes $90 per hour, which is pretty good money in my opinion, and say for example they bought a core i7 gaming PC with 8 GB Ram and 2TB HDD and say they paid anywhere from $1500 - $2000 for it and say this person knows next to nothing about computers. Even though they make good money, I can't imagine that person metaphorically giving that PC away after a few years of use, by selling it for like $255, after what they initially paid for it (anywhere from $1500 - $2000) , *if* they were going to basically throw the PC away for this kind of money ($255) then I can't imagine they would even waste their time to sell it, and as you said *"they just want the computers gone"* so instead they would just throw it in the trash. So going back to what I said, it is usually brain dead drug addicted house burglars, who go after small amounts of money, usually just enough to pay for their drug habit, so they sell the items which they stole for way under it's actual value. So, I understand what you're saying, but my point is still valid and I stand by it. one tip from a fellow PC builder, check ur HDDs with CrystalInfo. I am always surprised how many HDDs slowly die from overheating due to poorly ventilated cases :/ and also a question.. why didn't use the hardware programmer when u encountered all those issued? it would have solved everything quickly ;) also, did u check the CMOS battery? Have you thought about using plasty dip spray on things like the motherboard to make the motherboard look more modern and clean? I did for my friends PC and it made a world of a difference. Great videos and love the content
That's a sweet case, especially for that price. Looking at the frames you got in Hitman, I bet you could crank up the settings even higher at 1080p or if the person that ends up buying the rig from you has a higher refresh rate monitor, it should do well. Too bad about the Intel board, but not terribly surprising. Their boards used to be some of the best performing and most reliable long ago, but they've since slipped in the quality department big time as they've made things more and more proprietary and less user friendly. That Gigabyte board should do much better. They aren't typically the best performing/overclocking boards, but they do tend to be quite stable and reliable, at least in my experience in the past with Gigabyte boards.
Next time just use a black sharpie for the visible cables. I do it with my fan cables all the time, it is almost impossible to spot the difference between sharpied ketchup/mustard cables and the stock black cables, especially once they're behind a closed side panel.
Nice, really nice. I have though only one regret. It is sad that people are now days willing to spend the extra cash on LED strips and not on a better cooler.
Bryan, I have a dirt cheap solution to ketchup and mustard cables... I do it all the time. Black permanent marker. It takes a few minutes but makes it look a lot nicer!
A lot of socket 1155 and older Intel, HP and Dell motherboards do not like Polaris graphics cards at all, it's just the way it is unfortunately. They will often display the problem you saw with your build in windows, or not work at all like some Dell's do. Even the bios splash screen on my old Gigabyte Z68 motherboard shows up completely distorted whilst using an rx460 (I've tried about five of them), rx480, rx570 or my rx580 8gb. That said the cards perform perfectly in Windows once it's booted. Any older radeon graphics card shows the bios splash screen perfectly, as do all nvidia cards and the onboard graohics.
Love that trooper case with carry handle. I use a power driver to unscrew parts but always attach back by hand so i don't over tighten and break something.
I think you should use the electric screwdriver due to you being experience enough to not mess up or overtightened those! Plus it might actually be better for you hand since long troubleshooting with hardware makes taking parts off and on again abit stressful for your wrists
Seriously, everyone knows the Swiss make quality precision tools. Your going to short out your pc using an ELECTRIC screwdriver it has ELECTRIC in the name for god's sake. What's wrong with you! LMAO;)
The one thing I really wish that would be easy to find in Austria are cases. Nobody seems to be selling and if they sell they are either broken or ridiculously overpriced (like a Corsair Graphite 600t for 200€)
My pc cost was.. Fx8300 cpu + ga-78lmt-usb3 motherboard for £50. 500w corsair psu for £20, xfx gts rx480 8gb gpu for £100, 1tb hdd +120gb ssd for £30.. 16gb ddr3 ram £20. case+fans+accessories £40. So around £220 for a really decent gaming setup :) hunting for used parts is so much fun!
I clicked into this video because of the case in the thumbnail, only to find out that it's the Storm Trooper! I remember when this case came out and thinking, "That is the SHIT!" Wow, times have changed... Still a good case build-wise, but that whole angled top and handle have to go, but it was great to see this case again with a modern perspective. Thanks, B., for the great content, as always. 😎
Glad all of my MB's have more than 1 BIOS chip. My X79 DARK has 3. And it can be flashed from boot, or Windows. Hence all MB's should have at least 2, to prevent the bricking. Though you can get a BIOS flash clip, that works through USB to recover it, but there is still a risk. Also there are a couple of companies that sell the chips pre-flashed, but you have to solder them on if they are not socketed.
Black electric tape.... Dollar store... Would have cleaned up the wiring. You can also buy a wiring sleeve. It's a tube which is slit, cheap and easy. The PSU manufacturers only added the covering after us modders used to have to cover them. You can get and use the webbing type, but you have to undo all the pins on all the plugs to be able to get it on. Not a fun job
Great job Brian, that's some serious performance on a budget. Even for $300-$330 (reasonable price for non-hustlers like you) this system's gaming performance is near to a modern R5 1600/RX570 $600 pc.
Was the board a DH61WW?, we used to build these all the time at my old computer job, real pain in the butt, i used win7 to go from 48 to 99, then had to use the bios recovery with a usb pen, remove the jumper, boot the computer with a fat 32 usb pen with the 120 bios on, let it flash and then it would say reinstall the bios plug, remove pen and restart, once its on 120 tho, seemed alot better with memory support etc, hope you get it sorted mate, not a bad budget board for core i7's etc.

I'd try to find what rev it is then, some spec programs can usually show the motherboards model.

Been a year but is second hand stuff really the way to go is it worth the price for the risk of getting scammed

how do you reflash a 470 to make it a 570? could you also possibly make a video on this explaining if you haven't already
Watch video again, i guess it cant be any easyer.
Rx 570 is just an overclocked rx 470 with a different id. The boards are exactly the same otherwise so they accept eachothers vbios, similar to how the radeon hd 6950 2gb can be flashed into a radeon hd 6970 to unlock software locked shader processors
@@TheRezin819 you can also do it to a vega 56 to 64
That's a Cooler Master Storm Trooper. FYI, you can rotate the hard drive cages to the front if you want. A radiator can be mounted both on the top and bottom of the case. It also has a 2.5 hard drive slot on the top/ front that can hot-swapped. Very functional case.
I have the same case. You can actually mount drive bays the way that coolers will suck in air from the front.
You can still reflash the bios on that mobo with your flasher.
Storm trooper case is the best case i ever had 👍 i have had 10+ towers and many more builds. I have a h115i pro liquid cooler on the two 140mm fan connectors on the top of the tower 😊 trowing air out, and no its not a problem and not hot air trowing out as there is so many intakes on the pc 😊
My favourite part is that not everything went as planned. All too often you see youtube videos that make it seems the content creator does everything perfectly and nothing goes wrong.
I also upgraded my old pc recently. Also has used i7 2600 and rx 570. Can run BFV on Ultra 1080p 60fps

The same Polaris Chip is on that card you can Bios Flash it to a 570s to get some more power out of it, though it's sometimes a tricky process and it's smart to choose the slower 570 and tweak from there... Just to be careful as the tolerances are a bit different but not by much.
Its the same card
Yeah, you can get unlucky and it might not work, it depends on the silicone quality and what vendor the card is from compared to the bios you want to put on. Also beware of the different memory types.

Loving the Tech YES cleanse! You make those parts SHINE to be sure! That case is just stellar, and even though the motherboard looks absolutely lost with all that space, it looks freaking amazing!
Old PC troubleshooting is the real deal the fun a real tech guy can have
Electric screwdrivers are great as long as, they have torque settings, variable speed trigger, and a super long shaft adapter.
Here's my directions to myself for updating the bios on that motherboard outside of windows:
1. Download BE0048 bios zip
2. make the usb bootable
3. copy the iflash and bio file and anything else on the zip onto the usb
4. Put it into the pc and let it start might have to hit f10 to boot from usb.
5. type IFLASH2 /pf XXX.BIO /rb
xxx is the bios name make sure to capitalize
6. Do the same for BE0099
7. computer will now freeze at bios because intel is friggin stupid.
This process will need to be done with a second gen (Sandy Bridge Pentium/i3/i5/i7) to use a 3rd gen cpu.
my same case !! i've build into it , with x58 xeon , 24gb ddr3 ,gtx 1060 6gb !
I am loving these editing skills, just seem to get better and better every video. Now this is some tech loving
Yes can fix it, just fully clear cmos with the jumpers and no battery and it should also clear NVRAM. I did the same thing with a dell motherboard but got it back. Hopefully intel brand motherboard is like dell for that
a Black mate spray paint would turn the old case to look a bit more decent... i've done the same..
Where the hell you be finding these deals man

There's 2 possibilities :
1. That computer was bought cheap by Brian because it was the proceeds of a home burglary, and the brain dead drug addict burglar who stole that PC, was too dumb to know that it's worth a hell of a lot more than what they were asking for it.
2. Brian bought the PC for a hell of a lot more than what he has said, and he only said that the PC is whatever the low price is, because it makes for a good video.
I just moved to Puerto Rico from USA and I have try every pawnshop and all they got is pos computers and expensive I'm like let them know about computers and I point out all the crap on them but some people here in Puerto Rico don't know nothing about computers I'm not joking I went to a computer repair stores asking for 2x2 heatsink with fan I was with my 2 girl's 9 and 13 years old and the guy bring me a vacuum motor my girl's started to laugh it was so funny they know more about computers he was are you looking for a job I say nope lol. true story it's so sad.

"Probably just people who don't know what they have and aren't bothered to figure out since they're already making $90 an hour at their day job anyways. They just want the computers gone."
If a person using your scenario above makes $90 per hour, which is pretty good money in my opinion, and say for example they bought a core i7 gaming PC with 8 GB Ram and 2TB HDD and say they paid anywhere from $1500 - $2000 for it and say this person knows next to nothing about computers.

Really, these people just give stuff away and for why they don't throw them out tbh many do but quite a few people don't want to add to landfills and such. I've done this 6 or 7 times now and most of the people just wanted them gone to someone who would use them before they put them in a landfill so I'm sure that you're right, most people don't care and are just throwing them out.

one tip from a fellow PC builder, check ur HDDs with CrystalInfo. I am always surprised how many HDDs slowly die from overheating due to poorly ventilated cases :/
and also a question.. why didn't use the hardware programmer when u encountered all those issued? it would have solved everything quickly ;)

Have you thought about using plasty dip spray on things like the motherboard to make the motherboard look more modern and clean? I did for my friends PC and it made a world of a difference. Great videos and love the content
Had the exact same problem with my motherboard. A lot of these old premade PCs come with awful motherboards that cant run anything newer.
man those styker cases go for almost 100 euros 2nd hand here in holland .-.
I've used that case in white. She's a beast!
I liked that case, looks easy to work in and plenty of space. That TECH YES LOVING helped with the performance too.
Sad when it's the motherboard is the one that's faulty.Hopefully you can fix her.Great content as usual and always a joy to watch these budget builds.

Made me quit hard ware trouble shooting
Plus it might actually be better for you hand since long troubleshooting with hardware makes taking parts off and on again abit stressful for your wrists
sadly i was away when this was uploaded, but ever since i seen this on your twitter i was pretty excited to watch it.

I’d definitely use a manual screwdriver for pc building, it’s way too easy to over-torque screws with an electric one.
