Incredible video. I've been building PCs since the late 90s and I would've never thought to use brake cleaner on a grimy ol' GPU. You just opened my world up.
Nice build though for a bit more you can make a build that has upgrade path. CPU: Ryzen 3 1200 - they are really cheap now. You can find on alixpress 1200 going for $53(no cooler), though locally you should be able to get it for slightly more with a cooler and 3 year warranty. Mobo: a lot of choices. If you plan on upgrading later to the new Ryzen cpu's that will come out you can get a B450M Pro4 mobo. For cheaper options you can use AB350M Pro4 or if you want cheaper you can even get a 320 mobo since yes they can OC(do check forums first to know which can OC, but most do), however they won't support the new 3000 series Ryzen. GPU: your own choice. RAM: DDR4 is fairly decent priced at the moment so getting 16GB 3000MHz is suggested, but you can go with 8GB. Don't think it's worth paying the extra $ for 3200Mhz. Also there's DDR4 16GB 3000Mhz for $76 with LED on aliexpress and for $83 3200MHz with LED, so if you are ok waiting you can get cheaper DDR4 with LED than you would be able to locally :) Case, PSU, Storage are up to you and how much you are willing to spend. The SX8200 is decently priced. Now I know that this will be slightly more expensive, but performance should be about the same or maybe slightly better, however this has a future. If at some point you want to upgrade you can get during sales(Black Friday for example) a let's say Ryzen 5 2600(if you went with the B450 mobo even Ryzen 3000 series) and the PC will become a beast. Also the CPU doesn't necessarily have to be Ryzen 3 1200... Check locally. For example where I live there are few Ryzen 3 1300x 2nd hand with over 30 months warranty left on them going for few bucks more than the 1200. If you don't want to bother OC at the moment the 1300x will do an amazing job. I really love aliexpress builds since almost everyone in the world will be able to build it for the same price, but at the moment prices for new parts are so low that I'm not sure it's worth it at this price point. Even if what I suggest performs few fps less(I don't think it should, but let's say it does) it has a future. That's the main point. Still the most important thing people should take into consideration is what games they play... if they play competitive titles only(I myself for the most part do that) Bryan's build will do an amazing job for years to come. Still depending on what titles you play you can check locally for deals as well that might be cheaper.
You should do a video comparing the Ivy bridge Xeon in this video with an x3440 or x3430. I'm curious which one has better gaming performance, the overall performance is obviously in favor of the Ivy bridge Xeon though.

And I know very little about PC parts or building a PC at all but I think i'll be able to put it all together once I get it. So my only problem is, what is the ABSOLUTE BEST PC I can build for $500 or less? I've already seen ALL the videos by your favorite UA-camr, i've searched every Reddit thread. Googled anything possible. As of May 15th 2019 this is the best PC i've seen build so far: i.imgur.com/urMqy3m.png Are there ANY pieces I can pickup for the same price or lower that would give better performance? Also why 12gbs of ram, would have been better to get 8gbs and upgrade later or go for 16gbs. There has been test results that ddr4 doesn’t handle well with 12gbs.
I was just testing CRYSIS 3 and found that it doesn't really stress out a PC until you get halfway through the (Welcome to the Jungle) level. When you pass the mines and go through the Locked gate and up the stairs to the open field where the the tower guns are. On a 8700K at 5GHz it was hitting all 12 threads at 53% usage and while the Nitro+ RX 480 8GB OC was holding 75fps to 90fps at very high setting 2xMSAA. It runs surprisingly well. Also it was using 6GB of V-ram. Damn this game is the pinnacle if benchmarks still. I could see that the low clock speed of the XEON was holding the Sapphire Pulse RX 470 back a little in CRYSIS 3. It most likely would choke on that stressful open field level.
Pretty reasonable build, nice job. I find the max 2.7GHz a bit low but if it does its job fine. I hate RGB and glass panel, so my opinion doesn't count here (my choice would be dimmed orange lighting). I like old heavy PC cases wich weight around 7-10 kg empty, so I can sit on it or put my ankles on the top. I'm curious what is your opinion about cases quality trough years? I see pretty big downfall in quality and no one speaks about it. Manufacturers just put two led strips in and remove 2 kg raw material, it's vibrating as hell but look it has RGB :) Even 5 years old SFF cases from DELL, HP much sturdier than any case on the market now. Uhhhh I just want to flip a new fancy case on the side and see if the sidepanel bend or the glass break when I put a 19" CRT monitor on it.
can you please do a bottleneck video on these, I REALLY want to build one for fun and push it to its limit. or at least comment the gpu that bottlenecks on it? thank you.
Lol I've used this board it's a h61 chip set modified to work on LGA 2011. Will say it worked fine in my testing. turbo works, but your limited to USB 2 and only one USB port for the front header. Does have a msata which is cool. I'm using a e5 1650v2 a 130w CPU. Really it only seems to reach 80w max.
Hey could you please do a video where you directly compare this xeon to other cpus? (maybe ryzen 3 1200 or every other 4c4t ryzen, i3 8100 and a 8700k just to see how much performance you really lose on the cpu side) Maybe one Benchmark with the rx 570 and one with like a 1080ti to see how much it may affect future GPU upgrades. I would highly appreciate that. Keep up the good content!

G'day Brian, This a great build showing that there are older parts that still can give decent performance & mixing them wit new parts can get a decent cheap build, I got one of these Cougar PSU & it is great for the money, also the Case is great value with Glass & although not a standout is a good looking case, another Budget case I like for M-ATX is the Silverstone PS15 for $59AUD with a full glass panel & full mesh front, although it doesn't have a PSU Basement.
im convinced you are from a dystopian future where all electronics are built from salvage, wich is where you learned your future terminology (gravis card) and extreme skill and speed in slapping these systems together.
Great build, but.. Red Led? What i think?.. terrible, waaay overlit.. maybe for someothers people is atractive, but i think a cold white led strip was enough. Just from thw front, but hey... Ggreat pc, but i cant find a great Rx570 on Ali
I think a cooler green illumination might have been a good color choice as well, red really stands out if the lights in the room are out. I did a blue for my case fans, even tho my Antec P182 doesn't have a transparent side panel.
What do I think of the looks? Well it looks very pretty, the only issue, and I've noticed it in your other builds as well, is the ketchup and mustard PSU cables. No matter how much bling you add, the always take away from the looks. Look for cable sleeves on aliexpress, they are like $1, and put them on, every time you get a PSU without black cables.
If you want a little future proofing, you can pick up a r3 1200 for around 40$, about another 40$ for a decent motherboard like Asrock b350 pro4m and 2x4GB DRR4 2666mhz for around 45-50$
I just picked up 4 used Sapphire RX 470 cards (blower style) for $240. Pairing them with 4 free retired computers I got from my office. All have i5-2500k, 16GB ram, ASRock P67 Extreme4 mobo, 256GB SSD, 500GB HDD, and 550w modular PSU (and an ancient GPU). Bought 4 new cases for $130 shipped from Newegg since the original cases had terrible airflow and aesthetics due to being 10 year old cases carried over from Core 2 Duo days. Got my DataVac, electronics cleaner and thermal paste ready to GO!
Just purchased the same data vac inspired by you of course. I just noticed your red tape on yours. Did you make a repair or is that some preventive measure I should do as well? Thanks, love the vids, inspiring the tech yes hustlers from the other side of the pond.
I'm rockin the 8700K with a Sapphire Nitro+ RX 480 8GB OC (still waiting for NAVI, if it's not up to par then I'll keep running with the RADEON VII) and a 27inch Freesync 90Hz monitor. A 6c12t CPU and a RX 4 or 5 series GPU is still a great combo. Who says you have to spent $1200 on a graphics card to have a great gaming experience.
Bryan, just a question brother. I bought the same cordless screwdriver you're currently using, and was wondering exactly how you were able to sort out the custom extension? Any tips is greatly appreciated.
Is this ssd good because some really cheap ssd have are really slow i remembered Linus tech tips do a video of a really cheap ssd and it turned out it was really slow
Nice build Bryan. I'm guessing that $350 was US$. The bling looks good. The problem with Ali express is that it takes a month for the parts you order to be delivered, maybe more. So if you're impatient this may not suit. Cheers, Mon from Brisbane.
Nice build. But.... I hate to see that the front USB3 ports went to waste. Was there enough room to have installed a USB3 PCIE low-profile card next to the RX-570??? It's hard to tell from the video.
Just wondering, as you seem to do this in a lot of videos... you KNOW you're going to be using a MATX MB, you order a MATX MB, you order a case for your MATX MB, and you order a full-sized ATX case for a MATX MB. I've seen you use a lot of full-size towers... you seem to get some that are just humongous some times... why not build a new MATX system with a MATX MB? Just curious why always such big cases for small builds? Regardless, I do love watching your channel, it's always interesting stuff... Also... I KNEW YOU WERE A FAN OF 90210.
I'd probably pay a little bit more and get a slightly faster clock speed Xeon. Either V1 or V2, the difference in performance is negligible. But it's budget dependent of course. If you really have to stretch it, this combo is really great as it is!
Love the idea for this but there is a different board on ali express thats about the same price that supports NVME and the 24 pin is in the usual place. Crazy how cheap these boards and processors are. There is an 6 core variant that will do an all core turbo clock of 2.8ghz for about 35-40 USD shipped to your door. Price to performance for this platform is insane!
That's a great budget build, but I'd definitely go for the 8GB RX just to increase FPS in modern titles and future proof it a bit more (many games at 1080p are really on the edge even for 6GB cards these days). It would bump the cost up a bit, but likely not too much based on the prices I'm seeing on ebay etc. and even new I'm seeing them for around $150 so that's just around $60 and well worth it in my opinion to have an 8GB card that should be good for a lot longer than a 4GB card, especially as games are becoming more demanding with higher res textures and the like. It jumps the price up to just around $400 but for what you're getting it's really not that bad in my opinion, and is still an excellent deal for the level of performance you get.
I've kinda stopped using HDDs overall in the PCs I build, to upgrade machines I do go for 120GB SSDs and the HDD they usually come with, for better rigs I just put in a 500GB SSD. If I have 1000 or 2000GB HDDs spare I just put one of them in too for convenience. (I've been using a 500GB SSD for over a year now and am not even close to using up all that space, with a lot of games installed) And I like the red LED strip... as long as it's turned on lol, the white strip in plain view is slightly atrocious when it's off.
Interesting CPU. With that TDP you could actually passively cool it with an Arctic Alpine 12 passive. They are pretty cheap and if you have an okay Case exhaust fan this could work nicely.
Can't believe how much hsp you use! You're creating a blanket to keep heat in, not a heat conductive layer to transfer to the heat sink. The idea is to fill in small imperfections and gaps in the processing unit and the heat sink. And I'd think WD40 and brake cleaner would leave residue behind.

Please benchmark this pc some more.....maybe pubg and some AAA rgp's? Keep up the good work! :D
As always, sees a notification that the "YES MAN" has a budget PC build. Must watch NOW!
This is only the third video of yours i have watched, and yet unbeknownst to you (or i), my problem of my dodgy used RX 470 from ebay may have just been solved. I literally had the techpowerup tab open as i was watching this.. taking a break from my frustrating troubleshooting, having just noticed a thick build-up of dust under the fans..
Out of interest, i am flipping a Dell XPS 7100 i got for £40 because it didn't turn on (the front panel connector was loose).. it had a Phenom II x6 1045, 8gb ddr3, 128gb ssd, 320gb hdd, cd drive, windows 7 upgraded to windows 10 and a 480w psu with two 6 pin power connectors! The RX 470 was £50, so thanks to you i may unwittingly have my salvation! (I have tried everything else today trust xD) We share a passion.. Thanks!

i started looking for parts to build a PC using Ebay with the same amount of money, and hilariously enough Ebay has such a good selection. i'm ordering my parts soon and a decent bit of them for even less of a price perform better than this build. hes not lying guys, Ebay and these other websites are flooded with amazing deals so long as you know what your looking for. thanks man, really appreciate your content!

That is a great case to have. I built my system in it. Ryzen 3 1300X, 32 Gb Ram, RX 580 and more. It’s a great system
Looks good but the case dwarfs the parts and it looks kinda empty inside.
Personally I really like this case and the reason it looks empty is because the case is quite big which in my opinion is a huge bonus for the price it goes. Of course looks are subjective :)
@@xingbairong I'm personally a fan of smaller cases myself, where the parts look at home and plus a smaller case is just a bit more practical for me. Something like the Q300L could be nice for this build since thermals aren't an issue with these parts

Man, forget about 1156 xeons, they are dead. Especially mb will be dead, If you choose to overclock on any of them. Because it's just old
These business server boards probably have been used for more hours than personal 1156 boards. I have an Asus board myself and as Brian has mentioned, they dont have problems. I'm sure it'll be fine.
What I want to see is how clock speeds will help in gaming performance for the older, 8 thread Nahalem architecture vs a low clocked 6 core Ivy Bridge (4GHz vs 2.2GHz).

The 470/570 and even 480/580 are really good value right now. I picked up a brand new 8gb ASUS RX470 Mining edition (only has DVI-D output) for under $100 with it's full 2 year warranty.
Also there's DDR4 16GB 3000Mhz for $76 with LED on aliexpress and for $83 3200MHz with LED, so if you are ok waiting you can get cheaper DDR4 with LED than you would be able to locally :)
Case, PSU, Storage are up to you and how much you are willing to spend.
Still depending on what titles you play you can check locally for deals as well that might be cheaper.
great tips, thanks
You should do a video comparing the Ivy bridge Xeon in this video with an x3440 or x3430. I'm curious which one has better gaming performance, the overall performance is obviously in favor of the Ivy bridge Xeon though.
3440 is just beating the 3430 woth 4 more threads. Just get the x3440
Yes, but I'm curious about gaming performance, and in games that don't need the threads the x3430 was better.
Very negligible real world difference esp with so many gpu dependent games. I have a 3440 myself.
same, though I run mine with a gtx 950, so I don't really get bottlenecked by the CPU.

Loving the Red LED strip lights, maybe make a video on the thought process of getting the Strip lights, where you buy them and how you install them!
You could also go for a lga-2011 build with a e5 2640 or similar, as the lga 2011 has much better potential for upgradability
i got a cheap e5 2660 for 40$ off ebay 8 core.runs bf5 fine with a vega 56 1440p high good performance.

Just purchased the same data vac inspired by you of course. I just noticed your red tape on yours. Did you make a repair or is that some preventive measure I should do as well? Thanks, love the vids, inspiring the tech yes hustlers from the other side of the pond.
Use CRC Quick Dry Electronic Cleaner instead of Brake Cleaner similar stuff but less corrosive to non metallic parts.
The red LEDs surprisingly add a nice aesthetic IMO to the build. Good investment of $2 to flip this thing. Nice job!

Nice build. But.... I hate to see that the front USB3 ports went to waste. Was there enough room to have installed a USB3 PCIE low-profile card next to the RX-570??? It's hard to tell from the video.
noticed in the video the multi purpose spray was not used, where would you use that stuff at?
Price to performance for this platform is insane!
how you clean the gpu is really awesome
I kind of did not like the red led strip but all other things were spot on
That's a great budget build, but I'd definitely go for the 8GB RX just to increase FPS in modern titles and future proof it a bit more (many games at 1080p are really on the edge even for 6GB cards these days).
Have the same exact case. Excellent and compact. Great choice 👍
(I've been using a 500GB SSD for over a year now and am not even close to using up all that space, with a lot of games installed)
And I like the red LED strip... as long as it's turned on lol, the white strip in plain view is slightly atrocious when it's off.
RX 470 is probably a better deal, 5% difference in performance compared to the 570 and it's around $80 shipped.
I really like those phrases like "Tech *YES* lovin'" or "can the *YES* fix it", as the they are funny and show how passionate you are about old hardware.
