My channel launches this Fall.....so stay tuned.....and I am a Nigerian Goth. Oh, and thank you SO MUCH in regards to addressing this and the A-Z Goth video. A few of my friends were in the video (whom I adore), but I found it interesting that there was not one Goth of color, but in the video they stated "how welcoming it is and diverse".....but not one ounce of representation in the video??? I will do an A-Z soon which will include POC and the LGBTQ Goth Community. Representation matters and we POC in the community need to support each other and make our presence known.

It really does suck how black goth content creators are hardly noticed on social media platforms. I guess the mainstream media doesn't view them as fitting their narrative which is absolute bullshit. Keep rocking girl 👧🏽

I'm one of those black goths that is slacking in my content cause I wasn't getting views so I switched over to the other subculture I'm a part of.
The problem I see is that. When you are any race in the goth subculture. You can only get so far on UA-cam. But.. when you are African American in this subculture it’s worse. For the simple for that mainstream and our community won’t ever see us as the face of goth.

In general alternative is frowned upon. Then couple that with the black stereotypes about how we can't be alternative and it seem like an impossible glass ceiling to break.
Shoot in regards to the above point I'll never logically make it cause I'm a walking oxymoron. I'm a black goth Christian furry who is trying to combine that all into one channel. UA-cams algorithm will never recommend me and I've got 3 reasons for people to hate me.
Berry Unusual but that’s okay. Just know that you are unique in what you do and you have your own piece of UA-cam. Do what you want and have fun!

I can’t believe UA-cam is only just recommending me these channels. I subbed to GlamGoth a few weeks ago, totally subbing here too, getting great vibes already. I even love the channel name...The Munsters (and The Addams family) was my ish. Will check out the recommendations in this vid. I’m not ‘goth’ as such but I have ‘alternative’ ways about me. I’ve loved listening to rock since I was about 4, where the first rock song I remember obsessing over was Strawberry Fields by The Beatles. I made my Mum play that song to me so many times, listened to my parents rock records until I got older and found more current stuff. The nursery teacher I had was goth (I didn’t know what that was at the time) and I thought she was so awesome, her hair, clothes and make up just gave me so much life and she was such a warm character. I think deep down I long to show somewhat of a grunge/goth/punk look to match my personality but out of fear of judgment I just held off for the longest time. I keep designing tattoos for myself and eventually I will get them to go with the awesome piercings I have. I love how my piercings look, but I strongly feel like the tattoos are a must to compliment them. People just put me off and I am quite sensitive to judgment. I have been mocked for listening to rock and indie/alternative music and that alone hurts, especially when people say I think I’m white or some other shit that has nothing to do with anything. I remember being put off of learning how to play electric guitar when I was like 12...some kids were exclusively mocking a black kid (his band mates were white) that was playing rock music at school. I thought he was awesome, but when they called him a coconut that got me in my feelings, almost like they were saying it about me. People should stay true to themselves and I am learning to do that now. Learning to play guitar is on my list and I’m going to start this year. I can’t believe I let myself get put off of things I want to do by people who aren’t even much of a factor in my life. Tbh my family who are a major factor in my life will go bat shit cray when I get the tattoos, but it’s my life.

Im sorry that you have had a hard time dealing with others who couldnt accept you for who you are. I know how that could be. But in the long run its good that those kinds of people weed themselves out of your life asap. so you dont have to deal with the bull and the fake for too long!

Growing up i was always into rock metal,trance music and the emo gothic scene it just re resonate in me but couldn’t really express the way I wanted then because I was afraid of being criticized due to my religious background but now that i am older I could express myself more,I had recently dyed the tips of my locs Red and I feel liberated!

I literally typed in black alternative girls and you were the first one I clicked on👍🏾 I needed this one, because black goth/alternative, ghouls, witches whatever you want to label yourself. The aesthetic is not to look like a white person. It’s to look like the blood is drained out of you like a spooky beautiful corpse in a way lol go look at my “where is she” video and see how I make my skin tone pale for a black person. I already follow many of the people shown here, but seeing them placed together and supported like this is so beautiful and progressive. I love the online community and my local scene. I've seen more people of color at our monthly Goth Night here in town. I'm more than just a Goth, and my interests go beyond that. I dabble in various genres of music. I'm also a Metalhead, it's mostly what I play on guitar. Love this representation.

Love your list, and I already had at least half of them in my own subscription list!
I grew up in a predominantly Black neighbourhood in Toledo, Ohio (which is basically the Gary, Indiana, of Detroit), and so I got into Prince a good few years before I got into David Bowie. I've known people in all of the dark alternative subcultures, and in all the colours, and that A-Z video... Yeah, I had the same feeling about it hit me like when my dad remarried and we moved in with my step-mother in rural Michigan, and it took me a few days to occur to me what felt wrong about that town, and it was that it was the whitest place I've ever lived; I thought places like that only existed on television.
Oh, you've got me thinking about another video I can do...
Ruadhán 1334 yeah I don’t want to down the collab, because I’m for people in the subculture to come together and support, because the other side of UA-cam could give a damn about what’s going on over here. So if we can’t support each other. Definitely no one else will. That’s why most goth channels hit a plateau because the rest of UA-cam isn’t into it.
@@MarieMunsterful oh, totally. I mean, that's why The Cure is really the only "goth band"¹ that has sizeable mainstream exposure. It's a subculture that has some serious niche appeal, to say the least!
1: I'm sure people are going to be debating until the sun explodes about how accurate a description that is of The Cure, but ffs, Robert Smith knows who his core fans are. I'm about your age (I'm having my 39th birthday, this July), and The Cure are at least "Goth enough."

I literally search every few months for Black Goth and Black alternative videos. So glad to see at least 5 pop up this time!
i'm very magneto in a sense and i know not everyone is like that. i live in a predominatly white suburb. all my school and then work experience white was the majority population. i've struggled and had to really search to be in black and brown spaces offline. they are sadly far and few between in northeast houston. so i like to emmerse myself in the black and shades of brown side online to feed my heritage to feed relatability and similar experiences and all that. but others it may be less important for me after hitting 29 it became very important to me. i notice black goth youtube operates and has different topics of intrest than most white goth youtubers probably based on our every day experiences being different. when i see you share a screencap of who i'm assuming is the person who made it i'm not surprised. most 'mainstream', white or however you say it youtubers tend to not do a lot of work of emeshing themselves with people who look different than each other.
Jess in king we’ll I want to personally love all shades of people and etc. and though my channel is not a goth channel. I identify as goth. And get annoyed with the community when it comes to representation. But we as “black goths” need to do more too. And support. Before I had a little ass channel and etc I would add other pic goths on twitter and instagram and try to connect and dm just to support, and would never even get a “hi” back. Things need to change.

I am very late to this video, but I’m so happy I found it. It’s so important for us to support each other, representing alternative/goth black people, because we are pretty invisible on the wider scale of the subculture. I don't make videos anymore because I'm not sure of what videos to make. Also when I watch my old videos back they seem pretty boring. Its most probably my voice. Editing videos is a long process and since I'm at university now, keeping up with a YT channel would be difficult for me.
