Near the end of your video in the cemetery to your left, you'll notice the flagpole layed over almost touching the ground. That was done during the December tornado and was inspiration for the city's recovery and cleanup effort's modo "We may bend but we won't break".

At the 17:12 mark can be seen the cemetery flag pole that was bent over by the tornado. It was left as a reminder of the "Bend but dont break" theme the town has adopted.
After the Tornado my family drove around and we saw the flag pole before we went home. This was around an hour afterwards and it still had the flag attached.

Dude my town. Damn didn't think it'd hit UA-cam. Fun Fact My mother even saw the tornado touch ground. She thought it was her fault cause she watched a cursed movie. The flag pole at the end should have a plaque that says "You can bend us but we wont break" ANOTHER funfact is Taylorville is the town of The Tornados literally the name of the sports teams the Jr, High used to be Taylorville Tarriers but later on changed to Taylorville Tornados. Taylorville is a nice town. The brick roads are a pain though. Yes brick roads they left some brick roads because of history. 10:32 that big 2 story yellow house thats my best friends house! shes started a go fund me to fix it because of tornados

Can't believe I randomly stumbled across this video but this video shows where I lived at the time. After watching the video I said to myself. Even though I wasn't on camera, I wonder what I was doing that day.
She's a legend too
Just a few observations. This town is well laid out and well kept. The houses there look to average close to 100 years old yet are all tidy. If you took out the values of that one section of big houses, the rest would probably average about 45k-60k in value which puts them right in the range of the Walmart employees, which I bet is the single largest employer in town. One real telltale sign is that you don't see any of those liquor/check cashing/lotto with trash in the parking lot stores anywhere here unless the tornado swept them all away. Looks like a textbook small town to look into if a small town is what you desire.
I was in that tornado. The wind was strong. The trampoline was a toco. The weird thing is that was the first time I ever slept in Taylorville. Even on my book bag stolen same night.

It's too bad that you didn't have someone tell you haw to get to the most damaged area (Hewittville). Even if you couldn't see the before it would be quite obvious by all the construction of new homes and so many colors on the houses now. Several houses had been in disrepair and now there is a nice house there. Missions for Taylorville is no longer taking donations either because our part of the tornado work is done.

At the end of this video, you drove past the cemetery on the left. If you watch, you will see a flag pole that was bent over almost to the ground by that tornado. They left it in place as a reminder of the town's resiliency in pushing back and recovering from that event!! We may bend, but we don't break! Even though I moved to Springfield 35 years ago, Taylorville will always be my home!
These small towns will have like 10k people and have both a Walgreens and a CVS. While Columbia, MO (my city) with 109k people can't seem to snag a CVS. I feel so attacked right now..... 😂😂😂
