We were fine, but I nearly plotzed back at the hotel after I realized how close we'd been to this thing. Never assume you are somewhere tornadoes do not form...

That is very scary. I'm glad you were alright. I once knew a friend in school that wanted to live in Oklahoma. I asked if he was crazy cause of all the tornadoes that spawn out there and he said "no not really". Well one of his friends moved out there and lost his life within a week. EF4 tornado touched down near his house and swept him away. My friend said "okay change of plans. I'm staying here in Tennessee". I feel bad for him and for the guy that lost his life. Tornadoes are definitely not something that should be taken lightly especially at night. Everyone who reads this, please stay safe should a warning ever be issued.

It was a tornado producing storm that was the initial warning. Then it went observed with my report I submitted off the camera, which got ppl to shelter, I was flying home bc my house was in the path and got clipped by an ef2. So fuel management goes out the window then. I said I was in the path of velocity. I was well aware there was a mesocyclone but was hoping it wouldn't produce. Every decision I made during this chase I fully stand by.
We live in Bowling Green Ky. An F3 came through on December 11th 2021 around 1:00am right through a part of town. They are still rebuilding some of it even now. It’s still eerie to drive through the area it hit, nothing looks the same. A couple of neighborhoods were almost wiped out, lots of injuries and a few deaths. Really devastating for a lot of people. Tornadoes at night are a different thing, and for one to hit in December is not normal for us either. Stay safe out there.
Dec 10/11 was absolutely horrible! I chased the tornado that eventually impacted Mayfield. The bowling green tor was an absolute monster as well! Glad you made it out alright!

I was in this, when I was driving home from my friends house I saw the power flashes about 2 miles away from me. I was rushing home and I made it there in 1 place. This was the scariest experience of my life and I'm lucky to be alive. When your in OK your kinda used to it, but when the Tornado is RIGHT next to u. Its scarier than u think. My friends house was sadly hit but he had no warning. He suffered minor injuries but none of them are life-threatening. Stay Safe out there!

At least you had a warning. I am not so sure about a lot of other people by the looks of it. Out driving around. My general rule is if you see horizontal rain, wind or snow take shelter. Yes I said even snow being that I have seen a tornado in December before.
I know the feeling, an EF 2 just went through mountain area Pennsylvania the other day at 3AM right by my house, destroyed a forest and a campground that had 500 people at!
I'm glad you're okay. My tornado knowledge comes from reading about what the heck I just experienced. This year a land funnel touched down just one field over and a couple of years ago we had a tornado less than 4 miles from there too. My husband's semi truck overheated and shut down when the fierce winds made it impossible for the truck to "breath". But the scariest was in Michigan before I learned rain wrapped tornados exist. I was on a motorcycle and rainfall was so heavy and dark in the middle of the day I couldn't see the lights of the rider ahead of me. Water was pushing my feet off the pegs and my helmet visor was useless. It wasn't until I got into a rest stop after the storm had passed and was drying myself off when a woman came and put her hand in my shoulder. There was a panicked undertone to her voice when she said with great concern, "You weren't out in that were you? There was a tornado." I've been really lucky, and I now I'm educated. Thank you for sharing and educating others to keep people safe.

@@MesoHunterYT thank you. I got lucky. The Tornado hit the gas station across the street from the restaurant I was at. The Restaurant had broken glass ,minor damage to the building and tore up the restaurant sign. The gas station was flattened

Does anyone know why F-4 to F5 tornadoes 🌪 in particular have evil looking faces in them? Some very disturbing images the tornadic clouds! Any reasonable answer I would like to hear.
A couple of months ago we had a f1 or f0 touch down at night near my neighborhood. Sirens went off, told us to take cover. I thought it was heading towards us. It's a different story when it's actually happening vs the videos. But thank God it happened in a different neighborhood. Sadly some people got their roof and apartment messed up, but luckily no dead.
I'm pretty surprised that this Thunderstorm this strong/severe didn't have tons of Lightning with it bcuz Severe Thunderstorms especially Tornadic Supercell Thunderstorms usually have tons of Lightning with them which that sky should've been lit up like crazy with tons Lightning none stop especially with a storm like that you were chasing
Absolutely, spotting is risky stuff, and I don't think a lot of ppl understand that. Someone was saying I should have known bc of radar, but they don't know about loop delay and that we are essentially on a 3-5 buffer where the tor can do as it pleases. Thanks for the comment, and stay safe!!
Yeah, I was quite concerned for the public. There were a few that saw me filming and gave me that look of help me, so I just pointed to where they should drive away. The lights were flickering like crazy. It wasn't as noticeable on camera bc I had iso set to auto. Either way, congrats to your new rig!!
@@MesoHunterYT I agree 1000%! I am just trying to grasp an understanding on where to pick up certain signatures and how to identify them, and what they are called. Observing a storm by eye is much different than by radar.
I was in a half basement in Mount Vernon Missouri when a tornado hit I was by the door and I ran into the basement and the tornado literally followed me to the other side of the place and I was looking out of a really small basement rectangle window and I flipped out.
Stopped video at power flash and was like sh!t, that's huge. Run and take cover. Then looked online, 5 (3 EF-1 & 2 EF-2 tornadoes) in the area. Maybe start truck and floor it in opposite direction.

Everything was good besides my garage door being blown out a bit, but up the road, homes were gone :/ they are still rebuilding every time I drive by

It’s called pareidolia. Our brain seeks out patterns naturally. Sometimes those patterns look like faces.

My friend miss the Webberville, Michigan tornado on I-96 almost a week ago. She pulled off to take a shelter at a store during it was on I-96/ M-52.

I'm pretty surprised that this Thunderstorm this strong/severe didn't have tons of Lightning with it
bcuz Severe Thunderstorms especially Tornadic Supercell Thunderstorms usually have tons of Lightning with them
which that sky should've been lit up like crazy with tons Lightning none stop
especially with a storm like that you were chasing

Absolutely, spotting is risky stuff, and I don't think a lot of ppl understand that. Someone was saying I should have known bc of radar, but they don't know about loop delay and that we are essentially on a 3-5 buffer where the tor can do as it pleases.

Yeah, I was quite concerned for the public. There were a few that saw me filming and gave me that look of help me, so I just pointed to where they should drive away. The lights were flickering like crazy. It wasn't as noticeable on camera bc I had iso set to auto. Either way, congrats to your new rig!!

@@MesoHunterYT I agree 1000%! I am just trying to grasp an understanding on where to pick up certain signatures and how to identify them, and what they are called. Observing a storm by eye is much different than by radar.
Back in June a tornado came right next to where I work thankfully I was already off.
Tornadoes are bad but if it happens at night it’s the worst thing because you can’t see it unless it’s power flashing

I was in a half basement in Mount Vernon Missouri when a tornado hit I was by the door and I ran into the basement and the tornado literally followed me to the other side of the place and I was looking out of a really small basement rectangle window and I flipped out.

Stopped video at power flash and was like sh!t, that's huge. Run and take cover. Then looked online, 5 (3 EF-1 & 2 EF-2 tornadoes) in the area. Maybe start truck and floor it in opposite direction.
