So I won’t lie, I truly only bought the collection for the sole reason that they put trophies in for MG, MG2 and MGS. I’m not ashamed to admit it, and besides that I love those games and have since I was a kid playing MGS back in 98’
I've bought games for my PS4 and PS5 even when I know I can run them on my PC (and sometimes even better on my PC) just because I know I'll want the trophies. The Steam achievements or whatever just don't have the same appeal. And that's completely psychological and doesn't make sense and I'm not even a big trophy hunter, but I don't care.
@statesminds i just loaded mgs2 on my ps5 and down the bottom right of the screen it flashed metal gear solid HD collection. so you're playing the hd collection the so called master collection doesn't actually exist. how are they going to re release metal gear solid v when you can already play mgs v on ps4 and ps5 and ps3.
I wish Snatcher was included in these collections. That game features the Metal Gear Mk.1 as your little robot sidekick. Otacon's Metal Gear Mk.2 in Metal Gear Solid 4 is a direct reference to Snatcher. There's also a side-mission in Ground Zeroes which is essentially a crossover with Snatcher.
I think what irks me with this is Konami calling it a “master collection”. It’s not, it’s just a metal gear collection with minimal effort, but it is nice they brought it to current platforms for people who never experienced it.
Good review, but I'm not all that sure about the "unified launcher" complaint I've seen so much of. It's actually a bit of a nuisance to do the two-step process of going into a launcher, then into a game, when I only want to access one game out of a whole collection. In addition to that, there's no way I'm gonna pay 60 dollars for the first MGS: after all, I already own the PS3 collection and the 360 disc which I can happily play on XSX; they include pretty much everything on the master collection minus MGS1. Paying 15 bucks for the one game I'm interested in is, on the other hand, more appealing.
I think of something like Mass Effect Legendary edition as a good example. At the least, I'd love to see the MGS games have a unified launcher. Still, I get what you prefer.
It's much more of a nuisance to have your home screen/library littered with icons all belonging to the same collection. If people want to buy them seperately, OK, give them seperate icons, makes sense, but if I buy the whole collection, I want to have just that, *a collection* and not six different icons strewn about all over the place. Imagine if every company started doing this and you were to get several different collections, it would be utter chaos, especially on platforms where you can't make proper folders.
Important note is that MGS 1 and 2 were already both available on GoG for pretty cheap. And the GoG version of MGS 1 is the actual PC version of the game with better visual fidelity, where as Master Collection is emulating the PS1 version without any enhancements. The MC version just has more extras.
@GRebron Good ol Games. It's CD Projekt's PC storefront. Unfortunately, last time I checked, they unlisted MGS1 and 2 so now the collection versions are all that's available
I actually LOVE that they pieced them out because 1 & 4 were the only two games I was missing for Xbox so I only bought that version and a big bonus that I got the original NES versions with it. Just waiting for Vol. 2 now so I can get MGS4 out of it.
Im new to the series and im really happy they released this. I’ve been wanting to play metal gear for years and never could because I sold my PS3. I finally did and beat 1-3 and they’re some of my fav games ever. I really hope they make a second collection with the rest of the games.
You’re complaining about the file size yet you want all of the games on a single SKU? I’m glad they separated everything, so if I only want to keep MGS3 installed I don’t have to have 30GB of all the other games bloating my storage.
I'm not tracking down a ps3 or vita to buy the older collections and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone there. For the retro enthusiasts obviously they have those devices and most likely have the games already so this collection clearly isn't for them. It's for people who just want to play the games on what they have now, current gen systems/pc.
If you’re a physical disc collector like me this is a solid pickup - it has all the games on the disc which the legacy ps3 version didn’t since it was just a download code for MGS1 that’s already expired if you were to buy it today. Future-more vol. 2 is gonna have MGSPW + 4 + 5, which is stellar since you will have all MGS game on two DISC! No digital bullshit
I live halfway across the world from my old ps3 now so just being able to play them from my ps5 is reason enough, and all 3 of these games are better than 90% of all games coming out today anyway
the problem with this kind of logic is, you're justifying laziness. This collection is absolute garbage and possibly the worst collection rerelease ever. You are absolutely free to do whatever you want with your money: just know that you're part of the problem if you support this kind of lazy cash grabs. By buying it, companies will think they can get away with this shit more and more. We could have had a much, much better experience: we DESERVE it because we pay with our hard-earned money (and we pay A LOT, considering it's 60 dollars for 30 years old games), the games themselves deserves it because they are some of the best gaming experience ever. Konami not showing any kind of respect for their possibly most important IP is just unbelievable, albeit not at all surprising, at this point.
Don’t understand these giant companies that continually shit on its most successful franchises. The effort here is bare minimum. Like you said, it’s fine, I appreciate the accessibility, but so much missed opportunity and a genuine let down for MGS enthusiasts.
I think this is just temporary to hold us over until the remake. They’re remaking MGS3 they’ll definitely remake the rest because it screams $$$ for Konami.
Nah. He didn't even show the game select screens. They look beautiful as shit. This video is cherry picked to rage bait, which isn't a crime, but damn. It's weird how hard they go for how good the master collection is.
I'm just happy I get to play these games again without booting up the ps3 and using the dualshock3. I get that it's giving cash grab but MGS fans have been deprived for so long. I preordered this and I'm cool wit it.
It's a crap effort. I'll wait for the fully fledged remake treatment like the newer resident evil games and Halo 2 Anniversary. Probably another 10 years SMH
Got it on PS5 the other day. Beat the first one for the first time and now onto the second one. Love it so far. Not really experiencing any issues on the console tbh. All the games are included on the disc and you can install each one individually onto the system. Works perfectly. It's been worth the money for sure.
Just throwing out there that the PS5/Xbox Physical Version has all the Games on the Disc VS. The Switch Version & how MGS2 & MGS3 PS5/Xbox has major improvements for Loadtimes in the Menus / Codec / Cutscenes / Between Map Areas and is SIGNIFICANTLY FASTER than the previous Metal Gear Solid HD Collection from 2011 with A FEW Visual Fixes to the Visual Bugs from the 2011 Release. With that said though it's a shame the same can't be said about the performance Launch on Steam or the Switch Version however Konami did say they're doing Post-Launch Support for The Collection in general and are working on "various fixes & improvements" so take that as you will 🤔
@@Alex-pk1iyBruh, the Switch may be dated by today’s standards, but it for sure could easily handle these 20+ year old games at 60fps. MGS 2 ran at 60fps on the damn PS2. Konami just don’t care.
The key thing ever single reviewer is refusing to acknowledge is simple. Konami is not going to do remastering for the master collection because they are working on remaking every entry for the latest generation consoles. MGS3 delta, MGS1 is coming, etc. They aren’t gonna waste money and time that won’t pan out for profit when they are going to put huge effort into the remakes.
i agree with you certain things could have been done better but I think the biggest problem is people's expectations people expect it a tremendous amount of work to go into games they were just bringing the modern platform so people can experience it again. At the same time it's not like everyone can just go back to the PS3, ps2 r even a ps1 and play all of them again. Most likely for most people the system does not work anymore or they do not have it anymore I know me personally Metal Gear is one of the only games that I have gone back and played multiple times over and over even years later I did not buy the last collection when it came out do to the fact that I was still able to play the older ones my simply enjoy the story. I know when this game was originally announced I did not go into it thank you I will be amazed at how the graphics have been updated and all of that simply due to the fact they had a remake in the works with the potential of more remakes to come. Now if there was no remake in the works my expectations for certain things would be much higher. Now downloading the game onto your system and all that kind of stuff yes I wish that was a little better and a little more refined and didn't take up so much space in the library. I haven't replayed all of it yet but I watched a bunch of videos some of the downfalls of what people were expecting. But if you look at the title it says Metal Gear Solid Master collection not remastered collection. James recycle down doing a license issue it could not remove the license for footage they had but the company they had liked to get through the years because when Jordan I was no longer in this that's why they had to take the older ones down to avoid lawsuits why is that as well. Now I will be right there with you fully disappointed if the Remake come out and their just flat out crappy me personally buying the master collection is in Hope that the remakes will be good quality they see people still want it because if they go to remake Metal Gear Solid we know that is going to be a complete overhaul and that's going to cost some serious money especially in today's standards.
It's a shame not much effort was put into this collection. The MGS series deserves more care. Luckily I still own all original versions and they run most excellent via emulation including up-res, better texture filtering and texture warping fixes. It's like an instant remaster, I don't have to pay money for.
I really want to go through the MGS games as I've only played Peace Walker and V but I think I'm gonna wait till all the issues get patched up. I remember playing 3 on Vita and couldn't get through it cause controls were so dated, but I'm willing to give it another try on console. Really hoping this isn't indicative of how MGS4 will be returning in Vol. 2; I have been dying to play MGS4 for so long.
@@lobotomite4468 Honestly seems like most people are just disappointed it wasn’t more which I get. But if it runs decently on console I’m perfectly fine with it. Prob gonna wait till it’s a little cheaper tho.
You should give MGS3 another chance I beat the game on Vita 5 times already mainly because I'm stuck in Africa and the power and WiFi keeps going out for hours at a time but it's still just as fun to replay it as the first time around
I'll be honest in admitting I find the part of your comment "cause controls were so dated" to be very odd as heck, mostly due to the fact that [putting aside for a second you played MGS 3 (strongly assuming MGS 3 since you just wrote "3") on the Vita, the one with the worst control scheme IMO] MGS 3 was initially on the PS2. Further more, PlayStation has not really changed the format of its controllers since the PS2, and if your complaint for the "TV" consoles were that you found the control-scheme/button-layout archaic, I'd still respect that, yet still be at odds with your discomfort. Now reverting back to you playing it on the Vita, I can understand that you had a bad time with the controls, because, whilst I never played MGS 2 or 3 on it, the Vita IMO never was comfortable with PlayStation console-based ports from the 6th and 7th gen eras in terms of controls, since the four corners of the Vita touch screen were interchangeable "touch buttons" for L2/R2 or L3/R3 or whatever the game/Vita allowed in terms of custom controls. So at the end of the day, the MGS Vita collection ran the games very well, but were marred by the control limitations of the Vita, and Ultimately, I, Like everyone else, advise you to play any MGS consolized game on an actual console of your choosing. The PSP MGS peace walker, for example, worked pretty well since it was designed with the very limited controls of the PSP initially. Lastly I said "console of your choosing" earlier since, outright, I wont suggest the collection in this video, mainly cause I strongly refuse to support it, due to its egregious amount of lazy effort towards A LOT of intricacies that Konami (who "obviously" dont care about MGS other than to milk a franchise they "kidnapped" from Hideo Kojima....., truly IMO, even if Kojima somehow wronged the hell outta Konami's latent crappy business model) should have ironed out. MGS was/is Konami's bread and butter flagship I.P. after all!
playing mgs1 again after over 15 years is such a great feeling. imagine if they remastered it with 4k next gen graphics, everything else stays the same
@@Nolan-knew-it Emphasis on "kind of", tbh. Stuff like Snake jumping on rockets and with no effort flipping over a door to avoid being seen ... poor decisions. Making those changes when MGS2 had been available for years was just weird. Solid Snake isn't Neo from the Matrix. And why can't he do any of that in MGS2? He's more acrobatic and superhuman than Vamp if you go by Twin Snakes. Doing a seemingly loyal remake and then messing with stuff like that is bizarre.
Yeah Solid Snake doing crazy shit in Twin Snakes is poor desicions. Only crazy over top moves and Magrix shit in games MGS2, MGS3, MGS4, MGS5, and MGR make sense. Not MGS1. All the games after MGS1 had zany metrix shit done.
I thought it was a semi competent port when it comes to the PS5 version. It's definitely not terrible at the level of Silent Hill HD collection. All of them are pretty much playable with few bugs when it comes to sound quality. It's just kind of a pain in the ass to install them separately with bloated file sizes instead of having a unified launcher within the game library. They could have done a better job with MGS1 instead of just lazily adding a bilinear filter to soften the edges. And it still bewilders me why they couldn't add a 4K support for MGS2&3. But, honestly, considering that the HD collection from 2011 has a hefty price point not counting the shipment, I think 60 bucks for a playable enough collection on current gen consoles is not really a heavy bargain. They'll probably fix it with future patches because it does lack a proper optimization.
This makes me miss my PS3 for the MGS4 edition I got. Had they MGS encyclopedia that was included as a digital downloaded. Exploring that and reading all the details of the entire timeline of the games was awesome.
One of my favorite series of all time. I guess I'll just wait till they remake them all before I invest. I beat all these games many times so I'm not really tripping but I thought this would have been worth getting just for the nostalgia.
My first thought on the file sizes is that they probably upscaled to textures for 4k. Considering most PS2 games were around 4gb with 480i textures, 9-13GB doesn't seem absurd.
I wanted to like this. I really appreciate the accessibility. And I even don't mind that the PC version doesn't have mouse and keyboard support. It should have. But I have advocated for that at the very least games should be ported to PC/Steam with only controller support rather than not being accessible on PC at all. However this entire collection seems rather underwhelming and "phoned in". I'll stick with the original PS2 releases. Emulation, or buy a copy of the remaster collection for Xbox 360. But at least all the games are available for PC in one neat package for the first time. So it's not all doom and gloom:) Just really underwhelming for someone who already own a different version of the games already.
It really sucks for me because ive never played these games and im dying to play them. Sadly im gonna have to wait to buy it until they presumably fix this collection.
These games are not very good, the design and twists have aged like milk.. MGSV is the best metal gear game because the cutscenes don’t last 30 years and the gameplay is smooth and refined.. I recommend you do not play MGS1, MGS2 or 3 and you spend your money on the Silent Hill 2 remake set to come out in a few years.. MGS is highly overrated by a fanbase that hypes the games up like they are the second coming of Christ
There is literally nothing that has to be fixed you can get it now, you will not notice any shortcoming. We are not talking GTA definitive edition here.
UA-camrs are blowing the failures of this game way out of proportion IMO… With the exception of 30fps on Switch… this package is an absolute steal and best way to experience MSG in the modern era
This is $90 AUD for what, 2 PS1 games and a PS2 game? what makes this collection an absolute steal compared to the GTA collection or Spyro Trilogy or Tony Hawk 1+2 which were all cheaper and did so much more
bootlicking at it's finniest, I can eastly play these games for free via emulation on pc and with fan mods and get a better experience then what Konami is giving you guys for 60 dollars.
This packae barely qaulifies as an okay re-release. Other companies (even the lazy ones) have produced far superior re-releases of their games than this. It's worse than low effort, it is NO effort. If you're happy with the plate of shit Konami just handed you then eat it right up buddy.
This is rage bait if anyone is worried. The collection plays perfectly. The only downside i could think of; no secret theater in MGS3. File wize isnt that weird. Thats actually just about how big those games are. Back before all console games became made for PC, console games didnt have to worry about compressing things to shit since they were gonna run natively anyway. Compression was to fit more on a disc. You should also remember that for several of these games, you are downloading multiple versions of them, because its a master collection. Take up a little bit more disc space and just tive me every version of MGS2, why doncha. The only missing versions are those that are literally the same, just with less, like MGS3 and Subsistence. And Twim Snakes, and while that is kinda annoying, it is also in copyright hell with Nintendo, and its not that great anyway. Scripts. Books. Artwork. Metal Gear 1/2 as well as the NES versions of those two games. The collection so far is perfect. As long as part two doesnt completely drop the ball with the tangential games like the Acid series and Portable Ops; An alt universe thats genuinely compelling, and the prequel to Peace Walker that honestly explains alot about Big Boss and Miller.
I’m glad I bought the mgs legacy collection for ps3 last year. It was 40 dollars at the time, and for some reason cost 3x more now. And all games are organized on a timeline in the main menu. (They’re not all hd but still) This new collection seems exactly the same, or maybe worse comparatively :/
I've got no complaints. My brother gave me his old Switch and his copy of this game and seeing as I own a PS3 and MGS4 I actually get to play the entirety of Solid Snake's story and it didn't cost me a damn thing.
I really appreciate your angle here. Personally I'm the kind of guy who doesn't give a shit about HD remasters or remakes in most cases, nor higher frame rates, though it's certainly a nice touch if it doesn't affect the experience. I value game preservation infinitely more, and getting these games to be accessible once again to newer generations, faithfully. So seeing that these games are once again pretty much just a download for services that'll shut down / get delisted one day is extremely disappointing. Can I say I expected better from Konami? Nah not really, but still. I also would very much like to hear if the Psycho Mantis fight was fixed for the PC version, and works well on other ports. From my understanding the GOG port completely botched the thing about changing controllers and that should certainly be touched up. Though I won't get my hopes up with how barebones this port sounds so far. Either way, I'm not saying this for myself, my PS3 Legacy collection is in my shelf, it was the same with the Red Dead Redemption 1 port, I didn't mind that they didn't remaster it, but the price was atrocious, again, my PS3 copy is right there. But knowing that the allure of Psycho Mantis might not be carried over is just disappointing.
Having played the Psycho Mantis fight in this collection, I can say it works. They added a system you can access that lets you swap controller slots, and properly works. You just have to press all four R & L buttons at the same time to access it.
@@Riku-zv5dkthat's awesome. Hopefully the upcoming patches do touch up these in ways that improve it further, though they certainly should've been in there from the first place
I just bought MGS1 for $20. It was worth it. Still playing it. Having a good time. Can’t justify $60 for MGS 2 & 3 tho. Played them so much. I’m just waiting on MGS3 remake at this point.
If you love the original MGS I highly recommend you play the GameCube remake The Twin Snakes it has enhanced gameplay and cutscene that's a love letter to action movie more specifically The Matrix hell Kojima even said that the Twin Snakes was the original vision he had for the first MGS game if you don't own a GameCube no worries the original developer Silicon Knights went bankrupt so you can use the Dolphin emulator and not lose any sleep about it
@@tonycruz5643 who cares TTS exceeded my expectations bought off a friend for $10 bucks and my friend said the game was alright and nothing special and I took his word for but it blew it out of the water I was expecting it to be a 7 or a 8 rated but it ended up being a 10/10 in enjoyment loved it so much a saved up for the $60 dollar Metal Gear HD Collection for the Xbox 360 a year later and it was well worth it too
I purchased the HD Collection back on the PS3 more than a decade ago (man I'm old...). MGS 3 is my favourite game in the entire series (It was the first MGS game that I played, and I played it on the PS2 originally in 2005). I'm not interested in this Master Collection at all. I'm waiting for the MGS 3 Remake, as that's looking pretty good at the moment. Great video by the way, I'll definitely check out your Marvel Ultimate Alliance video.
I don't know, as a massive MGS fan, I'm happy that they kept the games as they were rather than doing any enhancements. I know the controls from muscle memory and I would feel odd playing them any other way, but I understand from a new player's perspective why this collection is underwhelming. Personally, I'm fine with it. I'm happy to have these games available on modern consoles. I have basically every version of these games that have been released and playing these feel exactly as I remember.. Knock on wood, but I'm not seeing any performance issues when I've been playing them. I'd say the main issue is the asking price. This probably should have released at $40 max. Just my opinion. I'd rather have this than a GTA Trilogy situation.
With all respect (as a big MGS fan myself),They didn't kept the games the same as they were on PS3 and had some improve enhancements. To refresh your memory, MGS2 had a lower resolution on PS2. MGS3 had a lower resolution on PS2 with 30 fps and could go down to 15fps while MGS: PW. All of the games I mentioned ran at 720p & 60fps (besides MGS2 that already had 60fps on PS2) on PS3, 360 & PS Vita. If MGS3 could perform well on PS Vita, I don't see the excuse to why Switch couldn't handle it at 60fps.
@@_Adjei_ my mistake. I didn’t mention “as they were” as in the HD Collection ports. 1080p @ 60FPS, which have been the definitive versions since 2011. They did some enhancements to fix some bugs that the HD Collection had too. I haven’t found any issues on my console. But again, this collection is essentially the games we’ve had for quite some time now and are the versions that I’m used to. To each their own though. Everybody is justified to their opinions. While it’s okay for me, I understand that it isn’t for everybody. I still have the old copies too to go back to in case these ones shit the bed at some point.
This is basically what I've been looking for, as long as the games are payable and feel somewhat like they used to then thats perfect for someone like my dad, he loved the original trilogy back in the day, would be nice to get this for him if that's the case
I bought this collection for the purpose of replaying MGS2 first and foremost but was extremely disappointed with the shoddy quality of the PC port. You can tell Konami gave exactly zero hecks when you are forced to use alt-f4 to quit the game instead of a proper menu.
The file sizes are actually correct. PS2 MGS2 SUB 8GB MGS3 SUB 4GB PS3. NGS2 SUB 8GB MGS3 SUB 9GB MGS2 has a lot of additional content thus is much larger original MGS2 SoL was only 4GB, MGS3 would've been larger if it included the two additional discs that came with it that included MGO and Bonus movies.
I guess my options are either wait for a sale on this, pick up the PS3 collection or purchase a new Vita to be able to replay the older one I already own
I own the collection on PS3, PS Vita, and PS5. Its way better on PS5. If you own a PS5 or Xbox series and you've never played MGS before, the collection is 100% worth the £50/$60.
I mean we can play this on modern hardware and we can buy it and own it physically or digitally and don’t have to emulate it so this collection is fine plus for all the games you get this collection is worth it 100% mgs1 tho should have got widescreen and a resolution bump
People complaint about the games being separate. Didn’t bother me at all. I like seeing all 3 on my home .. but I agree 100% time line order would of been a great thing😊
hey retro you should hook up a native 720p monitor since these were originally 720p you can really see the graphical enhancements with out pixels being stretched
So what's going on here?... Did you guy throw away your original copies? Did you throw away the greatest hits re-releases? Did you throw away the subsistence re-releases? Did you throw away the substance re-releases? Did you throw away your hd collection? Did you throw away your essential collection? Did you throw away your ps2 and 3? Why is this necessary and why are people buying it? You should already have these games unless you're 12
As happy as I am to finally be able to play these games (absolutely love MGSV and Death Stranding), they should have charged $60 for both volumes with Peace Walker, MGS4, and others. Also, haptics should have been used instead of standard vibration considering there’s a separate PS5 versions. No effort was put into this, but still, I’m absolutely loving these games even if I don’t love the collection
It's still outrageous to me how bad MGS2 and 3 run on Switch. 30 fps on Switch is absolutely NOT an excuse when we have stuff like Super Mario Odyssey running at 60 fps without dipping. K's really need to get their shite together.
I’m getting these games individually on switch, if not for those master books, and having them on switch, despite being able to play all these on my PSVita. I don’t mind that their straight up ports nor do I care, it’s metal gear on switch, and that’s good enough for me.
2:25 Yep, it makes all these launcher apps on PS5 too but what’s weird is that their is one app folder with all the games in it lol. I still think this is a pretty good collection if you haven’t played these in years. Twin Snakes omitted is a bit odd considering it is mentioned in the master book. Oh well, back to fighting Liquid on Rex 😂
I got it out of convenience, tbh. I have the HD collection for PS3. I have at this point.... multiple copies of MGS1, 2, and 3. I am not dragging out a PS2 or PS3 to play them, and I don't want to download and set up an emulator. The performance is worse, from what I've seen... but not a dealbreaker for me. I just wanna be able to pop the disc in and play, and that's exactly what I'm getting here.
Look I respect that you are your own person with your own opinion, but paying full price for these games with extremely minimal improvements instead of just taking the time to set up a console you already own, is just wild to me.
Agreed. Capcom killed it with those. I'm very excited to see which old Mega Man games they remaster next. Hopefully they invest in a new X game one of these days!
Metal Gear Solid deserved the full remake treatment with a new engine and cutscenes more than even Resident Evil and Konami really failed. Such a lazy effort.
It definitely could be better but im a sucker, got on ps5 just for the first mgs lol. I have the xbox 360 collection but for whatever reason didnt have first game. Did they put much work in tmnt cowabunga collection? Or bc older games no one noticed bc hope suikoden is good
I've played all Splinter Cell games, but only MGS V. I wanted to check the older games out with this bundle, but i only see negative press about it online.
Konami seems to have really phoned it in with this collection. I would advise against buying it if you have the ability to play any of these games already. There aren't any improvements made to them, no quality of life changes or graphical updates, and the bonus material I am pretty sure is part of other "collections" or you can find online or in published books somewhere. The inclusion of the screenplays was an interesting choice (especially given how much Kojima was influenced by movies). I'll probably read through them at some point. TL;DR: They are quite literally just selling the old games to you again (running natively, with no improvements), but now you can play them on the current generation of modern consoles. What a huge missed opportunity... I got it solely because I don't have the old consoles anymore and have no way to go back and play them. My nephew has been asking me about Solid Snake since he's seen him in Smash Brothers, but he doesn't know about Metal Gear at all. I got it on switch so he can play them too. It's been fun revisiting the old games with him. But I still feel bad about having given Konami money for this. It will be curious to see what they end up doing with the MGS3 remake, but I'm not confident it will be worth it given how lazy this thing was...
I have never played 2 or 3 (I own 1 on PS1). All I want to know is are these are functional, good ports for PS5? Like despite the minimal effort to upscale, is it worth it just to play these games for the first time? I don't really want to play on a ps3 controller if I get the legacy collection but I heard there's a difference.
I've just bought it yesterday, for me it's interesting since the only game from the collection i've played is mgs1, so i got 4 new games, but i definetely wouldn't recommend it for people who've already played the whole franchise or already own the games in other way.
Classic Konami, I'm happy to be able to play MGS2 and 3 on the go, but the lack of quality of life improvements and improvements in general is frustrating. Still bought it though fml
I bought it for both ps5 and switch so far I’m playing mgs 1 first and yes it’s not the best but my craving to play mgs1 was through the roof only reason I bought it honestly plus I’m a big ass mgs fanboy 🤷♂️
I only played and beat Metal Gear Solid 3 in the franchise when i was very young and always thought it was an amazing game, now that im 33 and nostalgic i want to play the first and second game, and also to see how they compare, would it be better to play on the original ps1 & ps2 or is this collection the way to go??
i still have the metal gear hd collection for ps3 and think it's perfect, so i was glad the ps5 version is basically the exact same thing. for me many games have been ruined by attempts at "improving" them. i do hate that the games aren't actually on the ps5 disc. they have been gradually phasing out physical copies with modern games, and this is one of ways they're doing it, it's extremely annoying. they're making physical games nothing but an inconvenience, it's actually just a digital game that requires me to put in a disc, which really eliminates the entire point of having physical copies. they also intentionally make it so every new game requires a large day one patch and often more patches to follow. they used to have no problem making every game without the need of patches, now they can't make one single game without the need of them? it's all intentional. i'm sure part of it is the people working for these aaa companies now aren't nearly as talented as they used to be, that's why indie devs with 3 people are making games as good and even better than many aaa devs with hundreds of employees now. indie devs are my only hope for the future of games. they make good old-school style games with more modern visuals and have even come up with basically entirely new genres. roguelikes are my favorite genre of games, and it wouldn't even exist if all we had are aaa devs. deck builders are really good as well, and they may come up with more unique genres.
I don't understand how they would implement the sensitivity buttons for Xbox or Switch. PS is the on button sensitivity controller's out there. So when you hold up your gun, you'll shoot no matter what. Unless you deselect it when you say "freeze" to a soldier.
They're basing it off the Xbox 360 Version of the Controls because that Version didn't have Pressure Buttons either. There's different button toggles on the controllers that do the actions for the former pressure sensitive moments. An Example being aiming the Gun without firing for MGS2 & MGS3 is now L3 instead of a light press with the Attack Button.
"Port?" My brother in christ, the name "COLLECTION." Is right in the title. It's not the Metal Gear Solid REMAKE. Alter the expectations of the product you're buying. You'll never be satisfied with your shampoo if you think it contains miracle grow formula.
That's what happens when a company was stuck on a mobile game space for too long, forgetting how they made these complex classics. They were top-notch in the optimization department, and had to code it all from scratch rather than have a massive development kit that already takes at least 1- 5 gigs. Assets take up so much room from it being handled by the engine, and results in some rather bloated releases... Hope they can turn this around; love Suikoden, MG, and Castlevania games. They will always be classics.
I honestly am confused. They never once said they were further remastering anything. Just the collection was coming to modern consoles I don't understand why everyone is so mad when it's exactly what I thought it was
Exactly. Why do people gripe about anything and everything nowadays? Let's be honest even if there was nothing to gripe about these asshats would find something because outrage sells
@@UltimateInkling that's exactly what they should have been expecting. That's what I was expecting and that's what I got. I'm happy with it they are great games.
@@UltimateInkling and thats what they got, the differences are miniscular. At the same time these people probabbly defended the gta DE. stupid times. No point in discussing with ape men.
Was excited for this, but just going to get it on Steam when it’s on Sale, just so that I can have Metal Gear in my ROG Ally. Definitely not paying full price though.
Real sad that it's locked to 30 fps on switch. Would have bought mgs 2 to have it portable since it's an all time favorite but no 60fps is a deal breaker I'll just replay it on my ps3
Honestly don't care about any of the negatives you had. Sounds like nitpicks to me, all stuff that's par for the course these days. Not a very good reason to title this video so negatively with such superfluous complaints.
If you have no way to play these games you should buy them here. Ive already seen price drops at multiple stores and if this gets supported then theres more of a xhance for the other games to get ported that havent been seen. More than likely the psp games and mgs4 will finally get more availability with the next volume
I feel Suikoden is a cash grab, people begged for years and nothing, then along comes the Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes Kickstarter which blow up and suddenly Konami are remastering Suikoden I and II. They did the same thing when Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night did awesome on Kickstarter and released the Castlevania Anniversary Collection. It's funny how just after Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes got delayed Konami delayed the Suikoden Remasters. Since the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection has so many problem, why didn't they delay it. It's Konami being Konami!
I've been seeing a lot of reviews on the master collection and people's thoughts on the price, and I just want to point out that metal gear solid has had multiple collections through the years first starting with the PS2 the essential collection. Then it had the HD collection for the Xbox 360 and finally the Legacy Collection for the PS3. Not to mention the multiple port collections you could buy on various Playstation stores. I agree that charging $60 is a little bit much, but then it hit me that most games these days are 79.99 if their first party, so buying a 60.00 game collection containing three major games and two lesser known games isn't really that bad. And for those who haven't played the metal gear franchise it is a nice opportunity to play on Modern Hardware for those who don't already own the game in some form. For me I just bought the Metal Gear Solid 2 game and will possibly buy the first one just to have access to integral. It isn't quite as important or as bad as people are making out to be, but it is something to think about in your own opinion. Is it worth it to you.
Yes it is as bad as people are saying. The frame rates and picture quality are dreadful. If they were the exact same games as the originals then 60 dollars is worth it. But 60 dollars to play versions of the games that are literally way worse than the originals is absurd.
"heinous unacceptable pile of junk" "wait for konami to fix everything" very constructive criticism. complaining about the file size and multiple skus I get but ultimately it doesn't affect how the games play and it works better for people who don't want everything.
It says these games are available to purchase separately. Is this the case with metal gear and metal gear 2 solid snake? I have the legacy on ps3 so I just want mg1 mg mg2ss for trophies. Is this possible?
So I won’t lie, I truly only bought the collection for the sole reason that they put trophies in for MG, MG2 and MGS. I’m not ashamed to admit it, and besides that I love those games and have since I was a kid playing MGS back in 98’
Nothing wrong with that. I bought (and still sometimes) buy games for trophies all the time.
Yea I’m with you, I did the same thing
I'm glad I grew up with during the GameCube generation because Twin Snakes was everything Kojima envision the original Metal Gear Solid to be like 😎
@@raidernation2163And MGS on the PS1 is still better.
I’ve played the HD collection on my 360 for several years, and it looks like I’ll be playing it for several more years.
So dumb it doesnt have MGS1 tho
Ironically i think it's those two games that are done better than that collection those games controlled rough
@@statesmindsdoes on ps3
@statesminds mgs1 is almost 30 years old and has the worst graphics and gameplay making it tedious and disappointing. it's outdated
What about policenauts? That game literally featured maryl in the whole game events
@@NetBattler She's a different character, sorta like a parallel universe version, but yeah it's true.
Im mad Snatcher didnt even get included on Sega genesis mini 2
I was playing snatcher on a baby handheld (rgnano) yeah! It's fun!
Don’t worry, Konami be the one snatching your $$$ if you buy this poor port
I think what irks me with this is Konami calling it a “master collection”. It’s not, it’s just a metal gear collection with minimal effort, but it is nice they brought it to current platforms for people who never experienced it.
yeah. nice... not about making quick money at all. they just wanted to be "nice". hahaha oh boy
Screw Konami. They might as well not have made this trash POS collection. Full REMAKES or GTFO.
Yup, exactly what I thought. I was like nah son having games seperate is better and more companies should do it.
@@Howitchewstofeel5gum chaos!! Utter chaos!!!

Important note is that MGS 1 and 2 were already both available on GoG for pretty cheap. And the GoG version of MGS 1 is the actual PC version of the game with better visual fidelity, where as Master Collection is emulating the PS1 version without any enhancements. The MC version just has more extras.
Thank you for this comment. I was so annoyed about this collection from Konami. Looking forward to PC on GoG
GOG?
@GRebron Good ol Games. It's CD Projekt's PC storefront. Unfortunately, last time I checked, they unlisted MGS1 and 2 so now the collection versions are all that's available
Is anyone ever happy with a remaster? It's ridiculous.
I actually LOVE that they pieced them out because 1 & 4 were the only two games I was missing for Xbox so I only bought that version and a big bonus that I got the original NES versions with it. Just waiting for Vol. 2 now so I can get MGS4 out of it.
you sure about that?
The code isn't expired. I bought my copy in 2022 and the code still worked
Im not sure why this gets so much hate. Just having MGS (PS1) on a PS5 disc is enough for me.
As a huge fan of the games, MGS3 being my favorite game of all time. I'm just happy to have a way to play these games on modern hardware at all.
I live halfway across the world from my old ps3 now so just being able to play them from my ps5 is reason enough, and all 3 of these games are better than 90% of all games coming out today anyway
Should've brought your ps3 with you 😂....I still have mine along with Ps1, Ps2, Ps4 and Ps5
You can emulate all of these games on "modern" hardware.
@@michaelman315 I dont have a gaming PC
the problem with this kind of logic is, you're justifying laziness.
Bro STOP i'm begging you
I think this is just temporary to hold us over until the remake.
If you use a chord, you can use the ps5 controller!!
You get a disc on the PS5 version…..in the video do you mean you can’t preserve them because you have to install them? I am a little confused
He spent most of the video complaining about the menus.
This video is made by a crack pot.
I was so excited for this collection, I am just glad that I didn't pick it up immediately. Maybe one day we will get the proper collection we deserve.
It's a crap effort. I'll wait for the fully fledged remake treatment like the newer resident evil games and Halo 2 Anniversary. Probably another 10 years SMH
@@HULKHOGAN1it’s literally volume 1. They’re gonna release more
I'm curious, what was it missing that would've made it better?
With that said though it's a shame the same can't be said about the performance Launch on Steam or the Switch Version however Konami did say they're doing Post-Launch Support for The Collection in general and are working on "various fixes & improvements" so take that as you will 🤔
They’ve said they’ll address issues on the PC version. The switch has crap performance by design, they ain’t fixing the switch version
Master collection as in you will have everyone game on one console finally . The master of all the collections we had since the past
2; I have been dying to play MGS4 for so long.
if u haven’t played 1,2,3 u definitely should buy this dont listen to everyone sayings its ass
@@lobotomite4468 Honestly seems like most people are just disappointed it wasn’t more which I get. But if it runs decently on console I’m perfectly fine with it. Prob gonna wait till it’s a little cheaper tho.
Same I only play 4 and I hope to play 1,2, and 3 sometimes
MGS was/is Konami's bread and butter flagship I.P. after all!
playing mgs1 again after over 15 years is such a great feeling. imagine if they remastered it with 4k next gen graphics, everything else stays the same
Twin Snakes kind of did that
@@Nolan-knew-it Emphasis on "kind of", tbh.
I bought Zone of the Enders just for the MGS2 demo
This makes me miss my PS3 for the MGS4 edition I got. Had they MGS encyclopedia that was included as a digital downloaded. Exploring that and reading all the details of the entire timeline of the games was awesome.
One of my favorite series of all time. I guess I'll just wait till they remake them all before I invest. I beat all these games many times so I'm not really tripping but I thought this would have been worth getting just for the nostalgia.
It was worth getting just for the better FPS for 2 and 3 over the old hd collection. The hd collection used to drop frames all over the place.
This port IS the HD collection versions of MGS2 and MGS3
These are LITERALLY ports of the HD collections, which didnt have framedrops, btw.
Get your eyes checked if you think they were locked at 60.
You talking about the 360 or PS3 version?
Mgs 2 and 3 were 60fps on ps2 but are 30fps in this collection
My first thought on the file sizes is that they probably upscaled to textures for 4k. Considering most PS2 games were around 4gb with 480i textures, 9-13GB doesn't seem absurd.
Clearly that's the reason, comparing the vita version to this you can see the difference in presentation especially in mgs2 & 3
So it's not all doom and gloom:) Just really underwhelming for someone who already own a different version of the games already.
steam says it has, controller is only "recommended"
It really sucks for me because ive never played these games and im dying to play them. Sadly im gonna have to wait to buy it until they presumably fix this collection.
Just wait for Delta and take it from there. Hopefully they’ll release the rest of the collection for next gen
@@Chukedthis is a very subjective opinion on a universally agreed upon great series. For you to say MGSV is the best is laughable though.

bootlicking at it's finniest, I can eastly play these games for free via emulation on pc and with fan mods and get a better experience then what Konami is giving you guys for 60 dollars.
This packae barely qaulifies as an okay re-release. Other companies (even the lazy ones) have produced far superior re-releases of their games than this. It's worse than low effort, it is NO effort. If you're happy with the plate of shit Konami just handed you then eat it right up buddy.
Go figure. UA-camrs have turned into wannabe celebrity divas
(They’re not all hd but still)
This new collection seems exactly the same, or maybe worse comparatively :/
Probably costs more because the demand has gone up since the MC released! 😂
People really misunderstood legacy collection?
Thanks for watching! I'm glad we see eye to eye on the preservation of these games.
The games are on the PS5 disc, it's preserved.
I just bought MGS1 for $20. It was worth it. Still playing it. Having a good time. Can’t justify $60 for MGS 2 & 3 tho. Played them so much. I’m just waiting on MGS3 remake at this point.
If you love the original MGS I highly recommend you play the GameCube remake The Twin Snakes it has enhanced gameplay and cutscene that's a love letter to action movie more specifically The Matrix hell Kojima even said that the Twin Snakes was the original vision he had for the first MGS game if you don't own a GameCube no worries the original developer Silicon Knights went bankrupt so you can use the Dolphin emulator and not lose any sleep about it
perfect then, they only cost 40 dollar together :D
@@raidernation2163only thing is the twin snake lacks the draw into the atmosphere and and environment of the original because of the soundtrack.
@@tonycruz5643 who cares TTS exceeded my expectations bought off a friend for $10 bucks and my friend said the game was alright and nothing special and I took his word for but it blew it out of the water I was expecting it to be a 7 or a 8 rated but it ended up being a 10/10 in enjoyment loved it so much a saved up for the $60 dollar Metal Gear HD Collection for the Xbox 360 a year later and it was well worth it too
@@tonycruz5643 the voice acting was better in the remake too Mei Ling sounds so sexy in TTS and Grey Fox sound alot cooler
I agree w your statements. @kct412
I think most issues are on pc master race
@@evilmookey1067The same issues are on consoles as well according to several reviewers who played it on PS5.
Capcom should do a resident evil collection of all the original trilogy games. Using the gamecube or dreamcast versions as the base.
PS2
MGS2 SUB 8GB
MGS3 SUB 4GB
PS3.
NGS2 SUB 8GB
MGS3 SUB 9GB
MGS2 has a lot of additional content thus is much larger original MGS2 SoL was only 4GB, MGS3 would've been larger if it included the two additional discs that came with it that included MGO and Bonus movies.
Emulation can be higher res though so i think thats the issue. They just didnt try
I like that the Games are seperate on Steam, 1: You can buy each game individual for 20 bucks, each has their own stats etc
Yo new to your channel but I appreciate the review on this!
I feel like they put no effort because they knew just because it’s mgs people will still buy it.
It's still outrageous to me how bad MGS2 and 3 run on Switch. 30 fps on Switch is absolutely NOT an excuse when we have stuff like Super Mario Odyssey running at 60 fps without dipping. K's really need to get their shite together.
Mario is a cartoon....
This is why I love my steam deck and emudeck. So easy to install and setup. They are never going to do ps1 and onward consoles justice.
I’m getting these games individually on switch, if not for those master books, and having them on switch, despite being able to play all these on my PSVita. I don’t mind that their straight up ports nor do I care, it’s metal gear on switch, and that’s good enough for me.
Rule number one# Never believe a youtube reviewer to buy any game
Yeah
Same I would have to hook up the ps3 or ps2 just to play em it's just for convenience sake can't wait till volume 2 and 3
Look I respect that you are your own person with your own opinion, but paying full price for these games with extremely minimal improvements instead of just taking the time to set up a console you already own, is just wild to me.
@ozzy6771 you're not paying full price for these games. It's a collection. They're artifacts. Hopefully, they do better with vol.2
It’s too bad you can’t upload your save files from the hd collection
The Megaman X/ Zero Legacy collection set the standard for how these ports should be handled.
Its a good collection for a newcomer
It's literally the best collection for newcomers
@@Yeshua_is-Cool Okay then. I think I'll check it out tmo.
The large font is driving me crazy. I’m not that old yet.
Damn dude it’s shame it’s didn’t get the justice it deserves. Mgs has been my favorite series since i was a kid so im still gonna get it
I only played and beat Metal Gear Solid 3 in the franchise when i was very young and always thought it was an amazing game, now that im 33 and nostalgic i want to play the first and second game, and also to see how they compare, would it be better to play on the original ps1 & ps2 or is this collection the way to go??
MGS4 being locked onto the PS3 is insane at this point. They need to finally get a team to untangle that code and release it on other platforms.
I only purchased mgs1 separately for $20 since I already own the hd collection and it’s backwards compatible on xbox
i still have the metal gear hd collection for ps3 and think it's perfect, so i was glad the ps5 version is basically the exact same thing. for me many games have been ruined by attempts at "improving" them.
i do hate that the games aren't actually on the ps5 disc. they have been gradually phasing out physical copies with modern games, and this is one of ways they're doing it, it's extremely annoying. they're making physical games nothing but an inconvenience, it's actually just a digital game that requires me to put in a disc, which really eliminates the entire point of having physical copies.
they also intentionally make it so every new game requires a large day one patch and often more patches to follow. they used to have no problem making every game without the need of patches, now they can't make one single game without the need of them? it's all intentional. i'm sure part of it is the people working for these aaa companies now aren't nearly as talented as they used to be, that's why indie devs with 3 people are making games as good and even better than many aaa devs with hundreds of employees now.
indie devs are my only hope for the future of games. they make good old-school style games with more modern visuals and have even come up with basically entirely new genres. roguelikes are my favorite genre of games, and it wouldn't even exist if all we had are aaa devs. deck builders are really good as well, and they may come up with more unique genres.
Hot Take: Metal Gear Solid 1 has the best cinematography in the entire series.
It's super impressive for its time.
It has amazing atmosphere too.
I have problems getting the menus to open. I use the shoulder buttons and it takes almost a full minute for the menu to open.
An Example being aiming the Gun without firing for MGS2 & MGS3 is now L3 instead of a light press with the Attack Button.
they changed this, and btw ps3 was the last console with sensitive face buttons
It seems like this is a DECENT, bare minimum port. And thats great. Im PRAYING that they do this for silent hill 2 when that remake gets near release.
"Port?" My brother in christ, the name "COLLECTION." Is right in the title.
It's not the Metal Gear Solid REMAKE.
Alter the expectations of the product you're buying. You'll never be satisfied with your shampoo if you think it contains miracle grow formula.
@@handgun559 thanks brother! your channel is sick! You just earned a sub!
Just the collection was coming to modern consoles I don't understand why everyone is so mad when it's exactly what I thought it was
Do you sleep or hang out with your wife outside of going to bed? Love all the content you deliver but you also worry me pushing out all this content.
Weirdo
It is what is, what did you think it would he from Konami. Collection is fine its peoples expectations that need to be kept in check.
Exactly. Why do people gripe about anything and everything nowadays? Let's be honest even if there was nothing to gripe about these asshats would find something because outrage sells
I think they were expecting the bare minimum for a full priced collection.
Same ill wait and do the same for steam deck
Real sad that it's locked to 30 fps on switch. Would have bought mgs 2 to have it portable since it's an all time favorite but no 60fps is a deal breaker I'll just replay it on my ps3
On the switch my game library looks like it is now owned by konami.
Honestly don't care about any of the negatives you had. Sounds like nitpicks to me, all stuff that's par for the course these days. Not a very good reason to title this video so negatively with such superfluous complaints.
So, par for the course means they shouldn’t be criticised? What?
If you have no way to play these games you should buy them here. Ive already seen price drops at multiple stores and if this gets supported then theres more of a xhance for the other games to get ported that havent been seen. More than likely the psp games and mgs4 will finally get more availability with the next volume
It dropped on my birthday 🎂 0ct 24 🙌
If you guys are not on PC don’t even bother I bought it and I’m happy cause I’m on pc and I can mod the resolution and add skins and other things
One of the few best in metal gear collection is PS2. Never had the ps3 version. Ill buy these on a price drop.
I imagine the Legacy Collection is still a better option to get all the games to play well, shame its stuck on ps3...
Its one thing them reselling another mgs remaster but reselling the exact same product under a new name is a new low.
Why... Konami
Now I'm worried about Snake Eater
This makes me wonder what's gonna happen to loume 2
I own this physically on PS1, PS2, PS3, PS Vita, and Xbox 360. Probably not gonna buy it again. Especially in this state.
It says these games are available to purchase separately. Is this the case with metal gear and metal gear 2 solid snake? I have the legacy on ps3 so I just want mg1 mg mg2ss for trophies. Is this possible?
