Before Dark Souls, us 90’s kids had this masterpiece. I’m seriously amazed; I remember how many times my brother and I had died on Space Mama’s Crater. Good times.
Right? Nowadays, the Souls games, even Bloodborne & Sekiro, are pretty tame compared to what y’all experienced in the 80s & 90s. If we thought Dark Souls was hard, we have not lived until we’ve played Battletoads, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles NES, the original Castlevania series, Rayman 1, even Crash Bandicoot 1 is both difficult & clunky.
This is probably the most impressive example of mastery I've ever seen for this game. Like I've seen people speedrun this game, but the way you play it with practically zero mistakes all the way through without missing anything is just beyond impressive to me, especially given the difficulty.

This was the best 2D platformer ever, in my opinion. Super Metroid is close, but the beatiful graphics of Rayman gives it the edge. That's the thing with 2D games, the graphics are timeless. But the ending...🤣🤣🤣 Classic 80s-early 90s. This game was soo hard, everyone in my group of friends owned it, and everyone spent around 50 hours on it. You also had to replay almost every level to find all the cages. And then the cheap move when you get the last cage, you have to play the last part with reversed controls! Imagine, playing for 50-60-70 hours, and then suddenly you walk left when pressing right and vice versa. This was in jumps, everything! I don't remember if they changed anything else in the controls, but that sure was a cheap way of making it harder🤣 But you had spent so much time finding all 99 (or 100?)cages,so no way you stop now. And in the end you take Mr. Dark🏆And you get treated with... a 20 second video of a but of nature, no characters speaking, no characters to even see! 😂 Classic 80s-early 90s🤣 But you had beaten one of the toughest platformers ever, so nobody cares. Out of 5-6 people, it was just me who beat the game, and despite everyone playing it for at least an hour a day. A couple stuck missing one cage for months. By accident I found the one I think they struggled with, I think you had to fall to your death for it to appear, in that second to last level(?) the cave system. If some one got a timestamp for that nutso cage I'd be super grateful, cause there had to be another way to make it appear😂 I doubt anyone is still reading though, my longest yt post ever, but this really had me falling into a rabbit hole of bitter-sweet nostalgia🥺😍😍
I love how you got those hard to reach cages in Allegro Presto and Twilight Gulch on your first try. Took me forever to do it and I was replaying it as an adult. Lol great job

I had a dream about this game the other night. Decided to download a PS1 emulator and start playing again. God I forgot how difficult Bongo Hills was. I never got past it when I played years ago, and I'm still struggling close to 20 years later.
They need to put this on the new psn merger i would be in my element i played so many times and still to do this day and havent beaten, currently playing cuphead its amazing fun

I had the GBA version of this game growing up, I don't know what it is, but the sound quality in the PS1 version just feels way too HD to me. I much prefer how crunchy everything is in the GBA version, the music especially felt like it had more whimsy without the ambience present in this version. I might be weird though.
This was the worst game. Just impossible. Remember back in those days we didn't have guide-lines as today at the web. Me and a friend of mine struggled for half a year. Think about it. You don't know anything, no blueprint on youtube, no info, no-one to tell you how to do. We struggled for a couple of months after finishing crash 1. (not the remake, the original where every platform had to be completed with all boxes and without loosing any life. Even on the clear diamonds) We couldn't do Rayman. It was too difficult cause too little lifes. So then we actually found a cheat-code. Printing the right buttons in right order, then you got 99 lifes. That was the only way we could complete the game. Try without seeing footage anywhere. Anyone. Then you will use months. Anyway, if you see videos like this, then where is the fun about completing a game? We had the same fun with Tomb rider and Duke Nukem. But not as funny as Rayman and Crash. To see a solution? For me it would be like seeing my Christmas-presents in front. I just watch for fun. The soundtrack is just fantastic. Best ever in game-world.
Great job in completing it under 4 hours. I've been playing and putting it down for two weeks now. Not only is it the most un-fun game i have ever played (which is kinda amazing since it was essentially a kids game), but it also has the most insulting disrespectful ending ever. "Hurry up and save me Rayman!", the easiest boss battle ever, then a blur of a Return Of The Jedi jungle party. We don't get to see what happens to the bad guy, we don't get to see the fairy after rescuing her, no animation, nothing. It just ends, and we get pictures of everyone at the beach for some reason. Not to mention how worlds are made out of music notes and desk objects, when it's supposed to be an alien planet. Funk porn music and dancing, who knows why. Zero identity. Essentially a bunch of french people who set out to make a game for themselves. Horribly designed, too demanding for the limited controls, and punishingly difficult for no reason at all. Absolutely no fun.

PS1 version is better than Sega Saturn Atari Jaguar and PC versions. Like if you agree 👍
