    Thank you! Newbie Unraid and HASS user (and former Melbournian) here. I just found your channel as I was about to install HASS on a newly built Unraid server. Will follow your instructions now, then review your prior HA videos for more tips.

      Glad I could help!
      IMHO, the VM method is just a bit nicer, but it will obviously take a few more resources than a basic Docker setup.

      @@HiveMindAutomation BTW: it worked perfectly first time. Thanks again.

    the browser will not open HA's Ip address. Says it can't find it.

    All that command line for just a copy and paste of a folder? Why?

      @HiveMindAutomation  Місяць тому +1

      Why not?
      I work in IT in my Day Job and can do plenty of stuff quicker in CLI than I can using a mouse. And - in my opinion - using the Command Line keeps me "sharp"
      But Mostly because the copy/paste of the folder is happening on a remote server, not my local computer.
      Doing a copy/paste of a folder on a remote server over SMB is extremely inefficient.because it copies the folder down to the computer you're working from, then copies it back up to the remote server.
      Over Wi-fi that would've taken ages to essentially transfer 24GB

    there is a way to install HASS on a container, did I miss something?

      You CAN install Home Assistant as a Docker Container, however it's not a great experience.
      I might visit this topic at some point in the future if there's interest.

      installing the full OS in a VM is the preferred way to run HA - even better than bare metal because it's easier to make snapshots - which are supported in the UI in Unraid 7

    when you talk about making copies of the VM before trying something, does Unraid not support snapshots? That would be better than copying and moving around images.

      It KINDA does..... but not via the UI, and in testing I wasn't able to get it to work with this particular image in the recommended configs I found in some forums and documentation. Proxmox MIGHT've been a better option for this particular server, but that's another story...
