- Go Pro images from the cockpit of a Dutch F-16 Fighting Falcon. After taxiing and taking off from Leeuwarden Air Base the F-16 is flying over the Frisian landscape. Flying over the North Sea - it gets refueled by an American KC-135 tanker aircraft.
Now the Dogfight training starts with a US F-15 Eagle. The GoPro cameras film the one-on-one dogfight between the two, with the associated maneuvers. After the training, the Dutch F-16 returns to Friesland.
The images were taken in April 2015.
The pure visibility in the F16 is so awesome. Not many jets have such an un-hindered perspective from the cockpit. So cool.

its really the only downfall of the whole jet. it cant go fast over long periods because the canopy can MELT. im not kidding
+jack black The F-16 speed limit most likely comes from the design of the engine control unit. It would allow compressor discharge pressure to increase beyond the limits of the engine, which has caused catastrophic damage and fatal incidents. I believe that this problem is only present in the F100-200 engines, though i could be wrong as i'm no expert.

+jack black True, but the engines would explode over mach 1.2 likely before the canopy could melt. It could depend on altitude though.

@@Anderson_Hwang Honestly, Two circle or one circle doesnt matter in f16 v f15, F16 should outperform the F15 in both, so i mean he can force the fight however he wants to, F15 is probaly more easy to beat in the 1 circle since its such a heavy truck, but with a lot of power ofc

The F-16 is a great dog fighter
The USA has produced three very fine aircraft (still in service) - F16, F15 and F18 - in service around the globe. Although pretty old designs, they are still unbeatable in combat (so far).
They are definitely beatable, the Russian Su-27 and Su-37 as well as the MiG-29 and MiG-35 are not to be taken lightly by any measure.
They are truly aerospace masterpieces.
Right he said unbeatable in combat so far. This means that they have yet to be beaten not that they can't be beaten. The Russian jets are good but masterpieces idk. The fighter is only as good as the pilot. Heck Turkey shot a Russian fighter down a while back.

I am not belittling the USAF or other fighters, I'm just saying they already have been beaten at for example Red Flag events, including the F-35.
And to suggest that Russian pilots are lesser than any other is simply nonsense. Did you know that in Russian fighters, they use a much less pronounced fly-by-wire system which gives the pilot a lot more feedback through the flight controls? The Russian air-craft are designed in such a way to not take away the feeling of the pilot beeing in control of the aircraft, as you would feel in manual fighters. Russians take pride in their airman-ship and you won't find any Western pilot whom has flown with the Russians who doesn't have a great amount of respect for their skills.
I am not Russian or anything, I am dutch but I greatly enjoy any good aircraft and rather go in the details and actual facts than chauvinistic thoughts.
Oh and by the way, how does Turkey shooting down a Russian jet correlate to anything? Are you suggesting no F-16 / F-15 or F-18 has ever been shot down by anti aircraft fire? Sigh.

The F-15 needs a power-upgrade, FBW, and even 2-D vectoring to remain competitive vs other modern air superiority platforms in close-in ACM. Too bad the F-2 is no longer in production too. There should have been a follow-on block which could likely have been competitive option for export today.

Hernandez-Yanez Bold Voyagers of Zion - Wrong. The current model F-15E is lacking in rate of climb and acceleration in comparison to latest model Su-30 and Su-35 models, let alone J- models. It is also inferior in angle of attack ACM. Hence the factual conclusion that the F-15E could benefit with an increased GE power-plant mod + some aspect of vectoring, as a means to be more competitive.

That's a very interesting visor. They must've added a lot of stuff to it.
That the Joint Helmet Mounted Cuing System. It projects the HUD onto the visor, which is handy when looking outside, and it can also be used to point towards an adversary that's not in front and then lock them up on radar or to direct high off-boresight weapons like the AIM-9X.

What's the meaning behind those handsignals?
The one at the very beginning is the signal to the ground crew to remove the wheel chalks. The ones mid flight where he puts his palm on the canopy are signals about turns and maneuvers, not sure of the specifics though. They use hand signals so they can still communicate either in radio silence, or if the radios aren’t working.
From 7:08 that is probably the Dutch pilot acknowledging he heard the message, followed by a 'Yup' head movement then 'pew' hand signal meaning "gotcha!"
@@albinorhino6 The one where he pushes his hand against the canopy means "push out", meaning that he has to create horizontal separation. In this case, for the BFM training, it means that they separate by about 1.5 nm and then turn in towards each other to start the fight. In tactical situations, like when going into enemy air space, it means that they separate by 1 to 5 nm, to create space so they can cover different areas.
The nod and 'pistol' sign means that the other aircraft can start the battle damage check. This is when, after a 'battle', they check the outside of each others aircraft, to see if no panels or doors have come lose or something else is wrong. That's why, after the Viper guy gives him that signal, the Eagle guy goes behind and up and then under, to visually inspect the Viper.

In real world 1-on-1 ACM, *SPEED IS LIFE*,and the F-15 is just faster at all altitudes, and almost every part of the envelope, esp. CLIMB. Even in a guns-only scenario, The Eagle has a distinct advantage, apart from the pilot.

I think its 65,000 feet at the northern hemisphere. The farther from the equator maybe the better you can see the curve.

this video the curvature you see is all from the gopro lens. I just looked it up on google and it says 35,000 feet to see the Earth's curve.

It's a single seater, so it will seem more cramped.
There is a reason why the F-15 was USAF's "air superiority" fighter, not the F-16. That said, the top 10% of F-16 pilots would likely defeat most (more than half) F-15 pilots in a dog fight both flying their respective aircraft. Same could be said for the top 10% of F-15 pilots matched against F-16 pilots only the word "most" is closer to "all" than it is "half." So are F-15 pilots generally more skillful than their F-16 counterparts or is the difference in the planes they fly?
No the pilots are not better in either jet. The Jets are just different. For instance I was a F-16 pilot and when we were on a certain mission then most of the time we the F-16 pilots would go in for a strike/bomb run while the F-15s were above us watching for threats like enemy jets and such. We would all return to base and be like family. I have nothing but respect for my brothers flying the F-15s
@@heathfitzgerald363 I've heard Eagle pilots are actually better at A-A just because they don't do anything else. F-16 guys spend a lot of time training A-G since that's the real mission nowadays.

Igi Vup Only time it sucks is when you hear someone locked on to you and all you can do it hope the missile over shoots or you dodge that shit.
It looks cool, but I could feel the painful sensations as he was maneuvering and the cold sweats as the assault on your senses builds up. Even more so if someone is trying to kill you, or trying to kill someone else. Go get a private license and buy or build yourself an RV-8. All of the same good sensations with few of the bad ones.

f-16 always going to beat an f-15 assuming all things equal?
In a dogfight scenario the F-16 will win most of the time. In a full combat simulation the F-15 will win most of the time.
@@dumdumbinks274 This is a good take. F-16 is too slippery most of the time in a relatively equal dogfight. But in a real world combat situation the F15s superior EW and its ability to get higher and faster before missile launch would prove decisive. If any surviving F16s could close to WVR against a force of F-15s theyd do so at an energy and altitude disadvantage and would have likely taken significant losses up until that point.
If all things equal and started say 100 miles apart, the F-15 has the advantage with a bigger radar. They'll be able to see the F-16 coming before the F-16 could see them. But there's variables. If the F-15 for some reason doesn't see them or the F-16 has AWACS support then the F-16 chances go up. If the F-16 can get in 15-20 miles, the F-15 better be pretty damn worried. If the F-16 gets within visual, the F-15 better pack a lunch.

A paintball isn't aerodynamic enough and would only go a short distance before losing velocity. Try driving 400 mph on your car and shoot a paintball out the front and see what happens

Did that F15 stall during the kill moment? Thought it looked like a flat spin. Kudos to the dutch pilot but to be honest it is a much lighter and more nimble aircraft compared to the F15
