- The F-16 Fighter Jet, also known as the Fighting Falcon, is a single-engine supersonic multirole fighter aircraft originally developed by General Dynamics (now Lockheed Martin) for the United States Air Force (USAF).

I remember seeing an F-16 on dispaly at a Nellis air show when it was first introduced. I was amazed that one of it's main advantages was that the pilot could see out of the thing.
The upgradeability of the avionics, and the versatility of the airframe is the reason the Viper is still a deadly fighter in spite of being in service over 40 years. In the hands of the right pilot, it can be a threat to any Air Force on the planet.

For the best fighter jet ever made I'd have to go with the F-15. I can't say the F-22 because it really doesn't have much in the way of combat hours but the F-15 has an undeniable record. If you open it up to best fighter ever made I'd say the P-51 Mustang is a great candidate. I'm just not sure I'd say the F-16 is the GOAT.
@@abikeanditsboy3449 I disagree. The F-16 is a great alrounder. And has over 80 air to air kills. The F-15 may have a few more, but it got the role in Iraq and was in the right place at the right times. The F-14 also had the role, but was in wrong places at wrong times. The F-16 can spank the Eagle anyway in a dogfight...

The F-16 has been one of my favorite Military Aircraft since the 90s.
If I ever get rich enough I'd love to buy one just to keep and maintain for a hobby. I'd never fly it because I don't really like heights 😁

There are a LOT of really sharp looking F-16's out there in the world.
I remember in the mid 80s the flight-line maintenance super frequently referred to them as lawn darts. They did crash fairly often in their early days.

F16 is phenomenal, but wouldnt call it the ultimate predator. The F22 would blow it out of the sky before it knew he was there
I remember the prototype F-16 when it was revealed in 1975. It looked so futuristic then. In 2023, it still does.
No mention of the XL variant here. Easily my favourite but it never went into production.
I've got to admit, though, that if I was the Indian Airforce, I'd have gone for the Rafale also.
China believes in war of attritions(number > quality), so F-16 was the logical choice.

When they designed the Typhoon, they looked at this and used it as a template. Great design. Held up for nearly 50: years.

Seriously, get a grip. The Typhoon has about 200 computers monitoring it because of the forward canards. It would crash otherwise. Also the Typhoon was built multinational with head mounted display capable of locking up targets with ASRAAM. There was also 2 seat versions. Lastly, the Typhoon has twin engine. Buggerall like a F-16 other than in your head… 🙄
@@stumpusMaximus I didn’t say they used the specific design of it. They used it as a template. What I mean by that is how it performed and then said w e want it to be like the F16 but better. And the typhoon doesn’t have 200 computers. It has around 70 with 4 controlling the flight side. And they are called foreplanes on typhoon. Similar to canards but it’s an English word instead of French. It was to disassociate itself from the French, who left the multi nation team. And how do I know all this. I worked on it for 7 years in the RAF.
@@stumpusMaximus and with regards to its HMSS that’s helmet mounted sight system, I was one of the first 4 people to be trained in it in the RAF. Any other questions you need answered about the aircraft please don’t hesitate to ask. 👍

Thank you for calling the F-16 by its proper name, the Fighting Falcon, and not by its nickname, the Viper.
In combat operations, it’s Viper. When the commander asked the Fires Officer what was available in the AO, the F-16 was always referred to as Viper and never Fighting Falcon.
But I get your drift.

So I've actually WORKED on the these since the very beginning and been around the world with them, we've flown out of mountains off of highways in Norway, we won the international bomb competition with this dog fighter, it's been used to blow up Iraqi nuclear plants because of its Precision bombing, trained countries from Egypt to Israel to Australia to Japan and Korea and back.. lost some friends early on till We Got Bugs worked out, even work beside the Thunderbirds. It may not be the greatest ever but it comes about as close as you can get to being able to be the" Swiss army knife jack-of-all-trades we can do everything well aircraft"as ever was built and will continue to be so for many years

@@LeonAust no the Aussies do not fly sixteens however early on we traveled throughout the Far East to Kadena, Misawa(Japan) and Osan and Kunsan (Korea) where we do have 16s stationed and part of our group went TDY( temporary Duty) for a few weeks I believe to Perth mainly to show aircraft capability
Block 70/72 promises to be a major upgrade. It’s about time it got AESA. It’s also about time the F22 got the HMCS; all our other jets have off boresight targeting capability and it’s insane that it wasn’t planned for the 22 to have it from the beginning. But the F16 has a place in my heart since I used to play Falcon 4.0. It took me years to learn how to fly that thing right and not get shot out of the sky by AAA right away. Flying fighter jets is not easy even in a sim; the real thing is exponentially harder.
Have you considered a vacation in Ukraine this year? I have heard it is very beautiful there this summer. The Ukraine embassy may be able to help you with that…

I’m a former Navy aviator through squadrons and four aircraft carriers. 16 is a Ferrari and Porsche put in the one. Thrush weight ratio is perfect.
As a teen in the 80s, I had an Airfix F-16 and a Spitfire model hanging from wires in my bedroom. The two coolest planes ever made (for me) Sexeh!

We had a squadron of Dutch F-16s at Kandahar Airfield, when I was deployed there back in 2012. I went to sleep feeling safe every night! One thing I will say, they also woke me up every morning, because they were noticeably louder than the Navy F-18s we had when I first arrived, and the A-10s that came in at the end of my tour. I was always geeking out over the planes we had.

I was actually in the very first F-16 operational ready wing, and you would have loved some of the crazy things that happen to us... we took the world's first electric jet that could pull 9 Gs and was the best dog fighter of its time and took it to the international bomb competition and won! The Israeli showed up at our base in the spring with six of their camouflaged tan birds to practice bombing at Wendover bombing range past Great Salt Lake just before they used their F16s to destroy those Iraqi nuclear plants. Every day was an adventure with these aircraft....
When a F-16 Fighter is in the air in action be sure the enemy is very concerned! F16 Fighter a deadly machine!
The F-16 will always be the ultimate fighter jet to me despite new ones like the F-22 or F-35 being around now.
Because many of these military channels aren't DOD endorsed, I'm always speculative if I should subscribe. I think the information to the public isn't confidential but still gives a foundation of learning in the basics.

Sometimes I asked myself why every single fighter jet in the US inventory are the “ultimate weapon”, the “badass”, the “mean dude” and every name out there in existence that describe the unstoppable force, and yet the US has technically and deliberately lost every friggin’ war since the WWII?
And then Top Gun Maverick taught me the idea “it’s not the plane. It’s the pilot”. Very true.

These machines are incredible but the most important part of them is the people who engineer them, fly them and maintain them and the military doctrine, strategies, tactics and culture that has evolved through decades of lessons learned fighting. It's the idea of freedom amd democracy they're defending that make these machines so special.

I lived near a naval air base as a kid. I snuck onto the end of the runway and I saw an f16 prototype taking off. I snuck through the woods to the end of the runway and I rose up and flipped the bird to the pilot at low altitude and he immediately started crying and he ejected and the test airframe crashed. The F16 is like an annoying gnat at best and the odds of it making any difference inside eastern Europe is zero

Wouldn’t the F16 be a good airframe for a semi-stealth aircraft with radar absorbant materials and reduced radar crosssection? Something cheaper than the F-35 but with a smaller crosssection than the averrage 4.5 gen fighter.
What do they mean by "target training" (the drone) for the last one? Do manned planes shoot these down? Or perhaps use these like using a reaper?

In the country I live we have no form of military tech such as fighter jets, drones, tanks, and nuclear subs. So one day when a fighter jet from Australia visited my country and did a fly by. The sound of the jet caused man, woman, children and even dogs taking cover in thinking it was doomsday. All hell broke loose.

What an absolutely gorgeous plane. Tough decision between the f16 and a f22.
Forgot to mention that a few upgraded QF-16 (the pilotless drone version) have been upgraded to include an AI pilot that allows it to fly and complete missions completely independently (though with the remote pilot still monitoring and able to take over at any point in accordance with international law...no one wants Terminator Hunter-Killers). The testing of these models are nearing completion.
@ 4:29, since when are the ground crew, such as munitions, permitted to carry a Side Arm? I was an Asst Crew Chief on the F-4 Phantom during the early 80’s, no one on the ground crew had side arms on their person, must be nice!? Hmm. Have I missed something?
I used to live at end of runway ,at hill air force base they have fleet of f 16s it was constant roar,they could go so high you lose sight
