Welcome to the BMW Maintenance Series where you are going to learn how to maintain your BMW yourself and save a bunch of money in the process. Today I show you how easy it is to flush the brakes on your BMW E90 325i but this will be a very similar process on my 3 series cars. You want to first check to see if the brake fluid is clear and you can even order a tester to see if there is any moisture in the brake fluid itself. You should replace your brake fluid every two years. Your braking system is arguably the most important part of your car so be very careful and pay attention when taking apart and putting them back together.

For which car do you have? It's underneath the right side plastic cover under the engine bay next to the cowl.

I’m also changing my brake hoses/lines, do I need to add more fluid because of that?

Yes. Press down the brake pedal and put a jack handle against the seat to lock the brake pedal down. Then the fluid will stay mostly in the lines. If you let it all drain out, it will be difficult to get the air out again.
