It's CRAZY how willing people are to go into debt for things! Save up your money and buy what you need with cash. If it's for a business, ok, go ahead and use debt to make money. But for personal use, stop it with the debt. You are not going to use the machine to pay for itself. I saved up for years to be able to afford my tractor. Yeah, it sucked having to put off projects and do things the hard way. But I paid cash for my LS MT342 with upgraded backhoe and now I can do anything I need. I've never found something that machine can't do. And no payments! We are too accustomed to having our 'wants' turn into 'needs'. Talk to your parents or grand parents about debt and saving for the future. Things are not great right now and probably aren't going to get better anytime soon. Protect your family and save, save ,save.
Are you talking to me? It seems like you’re repeating something I said in the video but doing it in more depth?
That isn't always the best option. I used 0% financing with deere to buy my tractor. There was a $75 processing fee. So the difference between cash price and financing was $75. If I had saved money until I could afford it, then the tractor would've cost over $12,000.00 more due to inflation in the last 4 years.
I also have a 2038R and was having trouble lifting anything heavy, like round bales, feed totes, etc.. I found HydrosPlus and checked my pressure, it was 2500 at full throttle. I increased it to 3100 and it made a world of difference. I then ordered the bigger cylinders and pump from HydrosPlus and it's a completely different tractor. HydrosPlus is doing some great work in this space!
I did need to get more counter weight though.
Basically there's a spring in there that the hydraulic pressure has to overcome in order to go into bypass. When you tighten that screw you are increasing the tension on that spring, which increases the amount of pressure required to go into bypass.
Same setup for water pressure into my home. Tightening increases pressure.
That’s pretty impressive, Brock. Sometimes I think these “name brand” companies limit lift capacity on the smaller machines as means of getting us to buy more expensive models.
Possibly, however I think it also may be to reduce warranty claims as increase pressure will stress out almost everything on the machine.
I believe it's so people don't overwork and damage the machines. Also lifting more than the tractor was designed too can lead to some sketchy situations.
Any modifications you make to something you bought can not void the warranty unless the manufacturer can prove the modifications where the direct cause of failure..

Or they don't want you lifting more than the loader can lift safely.
@@Miniscapes515 that’s true but if the Mfg knows that running a machine at higher PSI will cause more issues they will set the PSI lower at the factory to minimize those issues. If they find out you intentionally bypassed factory settings and that action causes a normally warranted repair…well, you just voided your warranty.
That pressure increase should help on the backhoe attachment when you tried moving around just using the boom.
My opinion is I think it is probably the right approach by JD. Set at a reasonable pressure at the factory for the 1st timers who don’t know what they’re doing, and good operators with minimal mechanical knowledge can turn it up easily after a little research. JD could just as easily put a unadjustable PRV in place of the stock valve. That said, my Hydrosplus pump and cylinder upgrades saved me thousands of dollars vs a larger machine where I only need the upper spec limit half a dozen times a year, otherwise I’m operating my 2038R down in the normal engineered for range.

That is an impressive improvement. A man has to be able to do the work he needs to do and you've found a way to do that. Props to you on doing what you needed to do. Way to keep it in the safe range to protect your tractor. As you know, keep some extra weight on the back to keep those rears on the ground!

Great video! I've been contemplating doing this with my small X728, but my tractor is already pretty "tippy" with a full load in the 45 loader, even with a lot of ballast weight. There's also no simple adjustment screw on the X700 series machines, so I'd need to insert a shim (thin washer) on the pressure relief valve to physically change the range.
I've turned up my pressure and it worked well. Ended up turning it back down after I was done with the tasks that required more lift capacity.

Howdy Brock! Like you stated, some of the limitations on the equipment are done for safety. Each manufacturer has a different opinion on what capabilities their units can safely handle. I don't think you will have any issues with tweaking the hydraulic pressure right up to the recommended maximum. All that equipment has a safety buffer on the specs, so it shouldn't affect the lifespan. Nicely done and thanks for sharing 🤠
I had same results when I shimmed my 790. It was 350psi below spec and made a big difference. Had no problems in last 4 years that I done it.
Hey Brock, the message i get from your videos is don't buy green, for same money in other brands you could have a bigger more capable tractor. Just as good as jd, but way more for your money.

You chose your words very well when you were saying "there are two groups of people here who are going to say.....". Hopefully you can cut off some of the ignorant comments before they're even written. You also beat me to the punch by addressing the hydraulic system's hoses, fittings being rated at 3,000lbs. I was going to mention it, but you were a step ahead of me! Although, even though the hydraulic hoses, cylinders and fittings (and whatever else I may be forgetting) are rated at 3,000lbs. I'd bet that they'd take far more than that before there was an issue. I'm not saying that anybody SHOULD go that high with their system's pressure, just saying that I'd bet anything that the system could probably take substantially more pressure before there were issues.
Good job. Now, how about a video on doing the same for the horse power. I could use a few more ponies on my 3039R.
TYM 2515 has 2 hydraulic pumps with more gpm than JD
Im with you, i cranked mine up to do what i need it to do. Was right at the point it would do it if i gave it all the rpms and kept pulling back on the joystick it would go up a half inch each time.
Now it lifts easily and smoothly. 8 years going strong.

I have a 1025 ,use a light set of pallet forks,mine are only 3feet long,and get the top of that tote tilted back over that hinge pin if you can.I move totes with wood in them also,I’m hearing 2400 psi for a 1025, factory I think is around 2100 psi.

By limiting life height/max weight not only is JD trying to ensure your safety but minimizing their warranty liability. Yes they are thinking of $$ they would have to absorb. No it's not about caring about your safety. Follow the $$$. It doesn't lie.

The backhoe has its own relief valve. It would need adjustment too

Regarding the manufacturer lift specs, those may not apples to apples, you've got to pay attention to the exact details of those measurements because there can be marketing gimmicks played there. There can also differences in design geometry of both the tractor and loader that affects loader capacity depending on what the manufacturer is prioritizing.

Brock, let me know if you do the same on your Yanmar. I’m thinking that it may explain the lack of steering response from a decent load on the FEL. The other week, I had to use it to load an empty 1000 gallon propane tank onto an 18’ utility trailer. I had to back the trailer under it because the tractor wouldn’t lift it high enough to go over the side of it. That’s with the straps all the way in on the pallet forks. They claim a 2500 lb lift capacity at the pins. But I wasn’t seeing that,…and I know that the tank doesn’t weigh half of its max. I appreciate you doing that, and looking forward to seeing what you find out.

I have a 2025R and bumped it up to 2600psi (JD recommend 2150psi I believe). I have seen videos where a 1025R lifted 1000+lbs at max height and it was easily tipsy. But you just have to use common sense. The video was just a demonstration. But I’m happy with raising my psi. I would like to have unlimited money to spend at Hydrosplus, I could have some fun. Oh and my warranty is out, I have a my2019.

I think if you look at the number of TYM or some of the others that can outlift the deere you will see that these machines are also heavier then the deere and that's probably cause be beefer frames and axles.
Cylinder size hose size all makes a difference in how much pressure and volume of oil flow so you could lift more lots of things go into engineering hydraulic system get video

That's good to know. I should check out my tractors' psi to make sure it's performing correctly. Looked like you have some bleed off in the cylinders or valve body. My tractor won't keep applied down pressure on the bucket tilt. It's bleeding off way too quickly and I just rebuilt the cylinders and still have the same problem. So it has to be in the loader valve body.
I think they are all capable machines but they "manufacturers " are keeping them under spec and want up sale to a "bigger capable machine " so that they aren't getting sued because someone that's a novice got hurt.
It's like when McDonald's got sued for serving hot coffee and it spilled on the person that ordered hot coffee.

I Am not worried about warranty on old tractor I have. First modification I did was add some shims installed for more capacity. What’s next larger diameter lift cylinders?
I think you're 50% right on why JD keeps its capacities so marginalized compared to the Korean brands. As someone who grew up on a large scale farm with 80-250hp John Deeres, combines, self propelled sprayers, everything green you get the picture, John Deeres number one assist is the brand image! Nothing runs like a Deere! keeping rated capacities far below failure points saves you from yourself and also saves everyone else from seeing a bunch of broken up green equipment plagued with failures. John Deere commands premium price, its customers are groomed to pay that price and ultimately the majority of them often say, this is the best equipment money can buy, I'll just pay more for more capacity. Its a blessing and a curse, their success has allowed them to bring so many awesome features to market in the compact tractor arena but that same success has made them feel invincible and although NO ONE will ever over take JD marketshare I do believe they know they need to pivot and make some adjustments, the proof of that? Notice all the new E series commercials on TV?

Test the backhoe pushing the tractor now. If it didnt make a difference then that tells me there actually is 1 or 2 releifs also in the backhoe.
My concern with picking up heavy loads is damage to the axle seals . I just had both right and left seals replaced because of oil leaks. I have never lifted anything close to capacity with my 3046R but with only 280hrs both sides of the front axle started leaking oil . Warranty did cover it but without the warranty it would have cost me over $1200 for replacement of seals .

Here’s my personal experience. I lift at my max capacity at least twice a week and I have 800 hours on the machine.
I frequently try to pick something up and can’t. I really get a freight shipment that weighs 1500 pounds and I can barely move it an inch off the ground
No problems so far. Even if I damage my axles, and had to fix them at my cost, that’s a small price compared to buying a bigger tractor that will do the lifting.
High oil pressure may have cause it. Many install axle Vents to prevent this.
My dealer said a vented dipstick would make no difference . Although I see there are two different types of these dipsticks , the pressure relief valve type. and the atmospheric vent . Not sure which one to purchase , but either one cost $100 . I guess I’ll give one a try as long as it doesn’t affect the warranty .

One thing I have noticed operating John Deere equipment vs others is John Deeres are way easier to tip for example I run a 1025r and previously a 1023e vs a Kubota 1870 the Kubota ran fine when I was in the mountains of Cass Virginia like a mountain goat and very stable where as the 1025r barely functioned in the same environment also almost killed me when I tried moving some pavers on the east coast of Maryland an extremely unstable machine. Please be careful when you are operating that tractor even if you have max counter weight.

Lawyers and other nannies ruin everything. But as long as they make it so you can fix it yourself, I am fine with it.
The maximum operating hydraulic pressure needs to be some percentage less than the weakest failure point. If an engineer wants a 3000 psi operating pressure, the design engineer is going to design in an X percentage safety margin, taking into consideration every possible point of failure. The absolute maximum pressure the system is designed to handle is going to be more than the factory recommended pressure. The same holds true for operating axle loads, etc. Companies have to design in those margins to reduce after sale warranty costs and reduce potential liability claims.
My recommendation is to set the hydraulic pressure at the maximum recommended factory operating pressure. Without knowing the maximum design pressure ( assured weakest link failure point above that pressure ), going above the recommended factory maximum pressure is risky.

Hydros plus makes a more improved pump which should fix your problem. I understand your not wanting to spend much money

Manufacturers believe leave the hydraulic pressures lower for 3 reasons. 1 is liability on them would be more if it lifted more. 2 is less warranty repair work. 3 it cost less money to use lower capacity rates cylinders and hoses. This means its about the profits not your safety.
If you raise the pressure, but stay in what the Manufacturer has listed as in normal range. I don't see where they could or should be able to void your warranty.
If you go above what is listed as normal range like 50psi I don't see this actually hurting anything. Its when you are going over larger amounts like 200psi is where problems usually start. There are a lot of people running the kubota bx tractors 50 to 100 psi over recommended pressures. They seam to be holding up well, unless you start trying to push your tractor over its rated limits all the time.
With the pressure range on Brocks tractor I personally don't believe he will have any problem even if he went to 3100psi.
Too much going on at one time! Your lift geometry plays a big part! Pressure vs lift will not be a linear relationship. As far as breaking something, you may shear the shaft on your pump, you may fracture a pin joint, you may exceed a hose rating. Most of the items will have a safety factor of 2:1 or higher before failure, but that is to allow for dynamic loading, such as driving or bouncing. Hydraulics are amazing, but what you observe may not be what you think! btw inside that pressure control is an o-ring that cannot usually be replaced. If you heated that assembly up that oring will now fail. Do yourself a favor and by a new valve!
If John Deere put specifications in their manuals that says you can go up to 3100 pounds or whatever it was as long as you’re at that point or lower there should be no violation of your warranty whether you modified it or not those are factory settings or parameters governing factory settings so if you turn it up to 3100 pounds and they say that that is OK Then that should not violate your warranty. if you turn it up to 3200 pounds and something breaks then yeah John Deere shouldn’t have to pay for that because you exceeded those levels and it is what it is.
My personal opinion warranty or not if they say the safe operating ranges from whatever to 3000 or 3100 pounds whatever it was I personally would go slightly below the maximum give myself a little bit of buffer room would choose to get the extra power and optimize that power within a safe operating range and then back off just a little bit to give it a little bit of a relief from that level just to keep the wear from being excessive but this is how this stuff is designed to operate within those specifications should not be a problem. I think or he said the hoses can only handle 3000 pounds and that should be included in the specifications because it’s part of that system so That would be your maximum point and if that’s 3000 I might back off to 2800 or so to give it a little bit of wiggle room and keep it from being pushed to its absolute limits all the time but those are safe, operating parameters and it shouldn’t be a problem Configure your machine within those parameters at all. Otherwise their parameters are wrong so it should be warranted and because those parameters were chosen. It should be safe to be within those parameters. Now if you want maximum performance like race, car or something like that or you just wanna push your equipment to the limit and risk, breaking it to see how much you can get out of it, that’s cool, but don’t expect a warranty and, any race person or performance machine type person? Will tell you that sometimes you break stuff. I do offloading and rock crawling and we break stuff all the time but it is what it is that’s part of it it’s a sport if you’re running a business and you need a machine that lives 3000 pounds and you buy a machine that’s 2000 pounds and you push it that’s just dumb by a machine that’s 3000 pounds and does the job appropriately because you’re trying to run a business and you can’t afford the downtime if you got a machine that only does 2000 you wanna push it to 3000 that’s cool but don’t be surprised when it breaks, but that doesn’t mean you can’t do it means you might break it if you do personally, I think it’s kind of cool to see how far you can push it but if you’re gonna do that you can’t cry when it breaks either lol.
I like the video and I like what you’re doing if I had this model of a tractor, I would probably make this adjustment and I would personally stay a little under the maximum and a parameters just to be safe, but I think it’s worth the performance like you’re saying, you can’t lift that into the bed of a truck normally, now you can And the machine is designed to do that so it shouldn’t be a problem and of course if you stay within the parameters, you should be within your warranty requirements and shouldn’t cause excessive wear and tear on your unit. If you buy a car and you adjust the timing so it’s retarded and you lose a bunch of power that’s not gonna make your engine last longer designed to operate Tuned and if your unit is not adjusted in tuned properly, you’re probably gonna be better off tuning it appropriately and if you wanna ask your performance to go be on those parameters then that’s cool but you might break it so just know that and decide based on that.I wouldn’t discourage anybody from cranking it up to 2800 or whatever within those parameters and don’t think it should cause excessive wear and tear to wear it will damage your equipment. It’s designed to operate in that range safely so it shouldn’t be a problem. Cool video this stuff is fun and you optimize the performance of your machine, that’s awesome.

It should. I recently did a whole bunch of hydraulic upgrades on mine to double the lift capacity.
Turned up the pressure. Put a new pump on the double hydraulic flow. Bigger loader lift cylinders. Bigger backhoe cylinders.

@@RockhillfarmYT definitely did. i have a no till drill at 1,200 pounds. before I needed max rpm and had to help it lift it up. borderline peak lift
now at idle, it lifts it like its not even there.
don't currently have a pressure gauge but I tried only doing about 1 turn. hex got stuck and had to fumble about trying to get it out. which may or may not of turned it more then intended.

Front Axle? Bearings? How long both will last after this lifting capacity has been increased? Why JD set it low? Not a selling point, that is for sure. Just wndoring!! I'm for throttle increasing, because the 1025R motor is actualy a 25hp, but JD chocked it down to 22 hp ?! Closeted tho it.
@@PoisonShot20I’d say primarily safety. With what they had it set at it’s hard to tip the machine even without ballast.
My drill that I couldn’t even lift before and now easily can will make my tractor pop wheelies on command.
I have a 2025R which was 200 pounds below spec. I raised the pressure 200 pounds but didn't see any difference in lifting. Disappointed...
You can do more. I went from 1900 to 2500 on a 1025R. Well worth it.

I don’t have a cash reserve to dip into and I don’t love the idea of borrowing more money so I guess I need to find a way to use the machine I have

Yeah, I’ve watched that series on Johnny X. I’m actually doing something similar with mine although it already had a turbo so that’s not in the list.

You are wrong! There are three groups of people. I’m in the third. My opinion is you do what you want to do. It’s your life and your equipment and your safety. I mentioned the pressure in your backhoe video. I’m sure you can dig more and lift the back of the tractor now. I’m assuming your next stem is larger bore cylinders. That will really make it lift more.
Safety comment. You may already do this. If you are going down a hill with a heavy load on the front, it’s better to be in 4wd. Once the back tires come up off the ground, no brakes. Yours should not be an issue with all the rear weight and backhoe on it.

Ask them, they will tell you how smart they are. NOT! BTW, as an engineer, I can honestly state that there is a safety (CYA) factor in everything that is rated. You will only know the ratings of hydraulic parts, unless you are an engineer designing it or find someone to tell you. Best wishes, Kevin
