Thanks bud, yeah sometimes it's OK to just realize you're probably not going to figure it out and move on. We don't know everything and those who pretend they do are just lying to themselves. I do think heat played a part in this though :)
Have a PS5 with very similar issues. Had to pass on it because I don't have the equipment if a reball/chipset replacement is needed. Like your diagnostic process.
@@TheCod3r I have reballing equipment, but can't run it out of where I'm living due to power constraints. One day I will buy a nice machine and will do reballing out of a home or something. Until then they're all getting sent off elsewhere lol
I noticed when you was initially going through the voltages, you put the probes on the 2v area, but your meter read 0v, yet you carried on to the next area. Just wondering if you saw the 2v that we didn't onscreen.
I just fixed the hdmi on one, when put back together, it had the long pulsing blod. Took it back apart and checked the LM, seemed fine but took a swab to it anyway. Put back together and it was fine. Didn't see anything wrong or different so not sure what the issue was..
Would have loved to know if you had 5v at the USB ports before pulling apart. Got one the same no power to usb, wouldn't turn off after turning on normally by holding power down, and did the same thing into safe mode
No worries mate, I do have a board I can use which I'm going to get known good readings for as many components as I can from. I may make a video on it that people can come back to as they need it 😀
I literally have the same issue as this board! Long BLOD and 6 out of 8 mosfets really hot with the SSD’s not lighting up at all. I’ll keep you updated if I find a fix. If I haven’t updated it, I haven’t found one 🤣
Can you tell me how you made the multi meter readings see through in your video at the bottom? I use the same on but mine is outlined in a black box. I would really appreciate it if you can share your secret or what video showed you how to do it. TY Great video BTW.
That what I would do if I had a ps5. I would put a thermistor sensor microcontroller with lcd. When it gets hot it would shutdown the rgb led would turn red to prevent over heat. Even my ac did that shut down if go to hot from dust builup.
Hey! I too have a repair business and had the same issue come in. I managed to get the playstation on and working. Sounds silly but what I did was redo the liquid metal and put some pressure on the device, (whilst open) on the bit where the soc chip not sure why but this actually worked (the heat sink attached) I did had to have the playstation flat not standing though. not sure if its any help but worked for me :)
One question I have is if the USB plugins receive power or not on that board. I have a long blue pulsing light and I don’t have usb power to the front or back plugs. I know the long light can be anything but wondered if a bad Southbridge would cause this but only if the system won’t turn on.
I have like 0 experience on ps… just the random videos on youtube… but i would say: the two missing phases, could they be on only for apu boosting when it’s under heavy load? As for the ssd, i would say to inspect the apu area for liquid metal spills …
@@TheCod3r did you try with macro lens? I want to buy one because its in my budget, and if a great technician like you use this thermal cam then its pretty sure a good thing to buy for myself
God I wish I could just keep the blue light on permanently. Maybe Sony can issue a firmware update with LED light control. I would prefer to play games with a blue light on instead of a white one.
You're all good mate, it's "southbridge", it's essentially the chip that handles input and output devices on the board such as power for usb ports, ethernet etc
@@TheCod3r True but couldn't a short in the usb halt startup? It just seems odd it started up AFTER it was removed. I dunno, seemed like a path you could follow...or not. lol
@@antagonizerr yeah definitely, it's always possible that ports can be shorted. The reason I don't really check them on the PS5 is because if you do have a short on the USB ports on the PS5, they're connected to the APU directly (or rather the data lines are) so if you do get a short chances are it would put 5v into the APU and fry it. Every time I've seen a dead APU on these it doesn't even attempt to boot. But that said it is an avenue I could potentially explore :)
