I have the same problem .. and who cares if the USB works at that time .. check the voltage in the USB ports ..
They will all be disconnected together,,.. I have not yet understood what is the cause of this problem.. Maybe you can find out
I like it when my UA-cam techs that I watch for tips admit they don't know what is wrong. It happens to everyone. Thanks for the honesty and you did everything to try and find the problem. I am also pretty sure your guessing is correct, probably heat expansion did a number on one or more components.
Thanks for the great content!
Thanks bud, yeah sometimes it's OK to just realize you're probably not going to figure it out and move on. We don't know everything and those who pretend they do are just lying to themselves. I do think heat played a part in this though :)
Nice that you put the diagnostic data on the videos nice.
Happy christmas wishes for You and family Phil
Awesome fix 🙏🏻
People say "we can't win them all", I disagree. We always win and learn something new. great video mate!
Can't win em all mate, I love your honesty.... very rare these days.
Merry Christmas bro all the best for the holidays 🙏🏾🎄🎁
Merry Christmas pal
Merry Christmas have a great one
Hi Phil! Thanks for the quality content you provide constantly.
Merry Christmas! 🎄
Thank you, merry Christmas to you too
Hello Phil
I like you for these ideas and because of this, I like your videos before watching
Happy Christmas
GOD bless you
Thanks John, merry Christmas to you too bud
Merry Christmas mate
Same to you buddy
Thanks!
Wow dude you're a legend man, thank you so much ❤️
Merry Christmas 🌲
Same to you buddy
I noticed when you was initially going through the voltages, you put the probes on the 2v area, but your meter read 0v, yet you carried on to the next area.
Just wondering if you saw the 2v that we didn't onscreen.
JESUS this is my THERAPY.. thank you sir your content is magic
Happy xmas have a good rest next few days .Time to relaxing with tge family.
Thanks mate you too! Have a fantastic holiday
Merry Christmas to you and family and a happy new year 💝 cod3r
Cheers buddy, you too
Hi! I have a PS5 with this exact same issue. Would you consider doing a parts exchange on the mainboard? Cheers mate!
Hi. You didn’t get one of the 2v readings when going thru your check. Would that be the problem?
Merry Christmas
You too 😀
Have a PS5 with very similar issues. Had to pass on it because I don't have the equipment if a reball/chipset replacement is needed. Like your diagnostic process.
It can be quite tricky without the right equipment but maybe woth time you'll gather up the stuff you need. Just keep at it bud 👍
@@TheCod3r I have reballing equipment, but can't run it out of where I'm living due to power constraints. One day I will buy a nice machine and will do reballing out of a home or something. Until then they're all getting sent off elsewhere lol
Hi! What thermal camera do you use?
If you don't know what's wrong with it who does? Great vid , i never thought id be so fascinated with mending consoles.
One question I have is if the USB plugins receive power or not on that board. I have a long blue pulsing light and I don’t have usb power to the front or back plugs. I know the long light can be anything but wondered if a bad Southbridge would cause this but only if the system won’t turn on.
Would have loved to know if you had 5v at the USB ports before pulling apart. Got one the same no power to usb, wouldn't turn off after turning on normally by holding power down, and did the same thing into safe mode
I'll have to check that out, I did a part ex on this so I have the console myself. I'll have a look in a revisit at some point :)
@@TheCod3r I'll pull mine back out tomorow and compair against your readings if I get a chance beteen jobs
No worries mate, I do have a board I can use which I'm going to get known good readings for as many components as I can from. I may make a video on it that people can come back to as they need it 😀
@@TheCod3r looking forward to that!
2volts didn't appear on your onscreen multimeter display!!
what thermal camera you use ?
you have very clear pronunciation apart from your local twang surprised a electronics company not sought you out yet!.gl
Thank you mate. I've been offered a couple of jobs but I'm better off working for myself really
Can you tell me how you made the multi meter readings see through in your video at the bottom? I use the same on but mine is outlined in a black box. I would really appreciate it if you can share your secret or what video showed you how to do it. TY Great video BTW.
I just capture my meter software and then use a color key filter to remove the background on OBS mate
@@TheCod3r Thank you very much! I didn’t know you could do that. I’m going to try that out. It looks much better without the background.
Hey! I too have a repair business and had the same issue come in. I managed to get the playstation on and working. Sounds silly but what I did was redo the liquid metal and put some pressure on the device, (whilst open) on the bit where the soc chip not sure why but this actually worked (the heat sink attached) I did had to have the playstation flat not standing though. not sure if its any help but worked for me :)
Could you go into more detail please. I am having the same problem
Should make the led glow red when hot. Maybe it does don't know.
Check the APU for Liquid Metal under the foam
I just fixed the hdmi on one, when put back together, it had the long pulsing blod. Took it back apart and checked the LM, seemed fine but took a swab to it anyway. Put back together and it was fine. Didn't see anything wrong or different so not sure what the issue was..
I checked mate, I just didn't show that in the video because of time limits
At least Sony left you something to look at when no longer working a pretty blue light.
Happy Krimble, Phil!
Cheers Mike, you too buddy
I have like 0 experience on ps… just the random videos on youtube… but i would say: the two missing phases, could they be on only for apu boosting when it’s under heavy load? As for the ssd, i would say to inspect the apu area for liquid metal spills …
It's hard to say but I'll look into it for a revisit I think. I did check the apu for spills, I just kept it out of the video because of time limits
What would a 4 second one be?
if those bottom two mosfets are dead then the top ones might take the load.
Yeah I may look into replacing those, it could explain why the other 6 are getting hot
I agree I think he was thinking too much
I can’t access safe mode it crash in the loading:(
Could you do a rewiev of your thermal camera? Is it good?
I suck at review videos, definitely cringe content lol. But it's not bad, certainly does the job
@@TheCod3r did you try with macro lens? I want to buy one because its in my budget, and if a great technician like you use this thermal cam then its pretty sure a good thing to buy for myself
That what I would do if I had a ps5. I would put a thermistor sensor microcontroller with lcd. When it gets hot it would shutdown the rgb led would turn red to prevent over heat. Even my ac did that shut down if go to hot from dust builup.
Its a cold solder underneath the gpu
Not good airflow I imagine.
I literally have the same issue as this board! Long BLOD and 6 out of 8 mosfets really hot with the SSD’s not lighting up at all. I’ll keep you updated if I find a fix.
If I haven’t updated it, I haven’t found one 🤣
you had white light when testing voltages
Did you ever find the fault? What does blue pulsing mean?
What do you think will last longer ps5 or series x?
series x in general
At +/- 7:20 min you mention a “safe-bridge”, pardon my ignorance but, what is that? Cheers!
You're all good mate, it's "southbridge", it's essentially the chip that handles input and output devices on the board such as power for usb ports, ethernet etc
@@TheCod3r Awesome, thanks for replying. Cheers mate!
@@maxwarfield6699 my pleasure bud
notice what happens on the wifi chip for a split second @ 00:33:19
thats just a heat reflection on top of the chip - nothing to worry about.
Can you do a video on console banned ps5
It wouldn’t surprise me if the console has had the power pulled in the middle of an update if it has killed the ssd
I cant even get my ps5 to the safe mode. It just turns off 😥😥
They will all be disconnected together,,.. I have not yet understood what is the cause of this problem.. Maybe you can find out.
I have a ps5 with the same fault I can’t get into safe mode or anything it will just constantly pulse the blue light, have you managed to fix it yet? love the work keep it up
Unfortunately not bud, I ended up using that board as a donor board
@@TheCod3r shame buddy but keep up the good work you are teaching us a lot!
bro did u find a fix for this@@TheCod3r
I have the same problem .. and who cares if the USB works at that time .. check the voltage in the USB ports ..
✌️
God I wish I could just keep the blue light on permanently. Maybe Sony can issue a firmware update with LED light control. I would prefer to play games with a blue light on instead of a white one.
Never received those parts 😮💨
UK postal services have been on strike all over Christmas mate
@@TheCod3r sorry my 😮💨 was at the disgust with the mail service here as well buddy. All of the US has a horrific freeze leaving over 500K without power and the mail completely shut down here as well. It's been hell of a mess....just keep me in the loop please and let me know when ya can ship. I'm going to be using a new courier soon myself....
You didn't install the ribbon cable when it turned on. That seems like a huge clue.
You mean the usb one? That's not needed mate
@@TheCod3r True but couldn't a short in the usb halt startup? It just seems odd it started up AFTER it was removed. I dunno, seemed like a path you could follow...or not. lol
@@antagonizerr yeah definitely, it's always possible that ports can be shorted. The reason I don't really check them on the PS5 is because if you do have a short on the USB ports on the PS5, they're connected to the APU directly (or rather the data lines are) so if you do get a short chances are it would put 5v into the APU and fry it. Every time I've seen a dead APU on these it doesn't even attempt to boot. But that said it is an avenue I could potentially explore :)
Unlucky, this is a weird one
To Resist Is To Piss In The Wind, Anybody Who Does Will End Up...... Smelling!
Haha
if you only charge him 200 thats a good deal
Hey mate my sons ps5 turns off while he plays games . It works fine while watching Netflix or utube. When it turns off during a game the only way to get it to turn back on is to unplug it and start it back up again. Have you ever seen this problem. He got it on the ps5 release date 2 years ago .
It could just be as simple as overheating to be honest. But if it's not blocked up inside with dust it may have a power supply issue
Thanks for the super quick response. Could I send it to you to have a look at . I watched one of your service videos and I don’t trust myself to take it apart without turning it into a pile of scrap 😂 .
@@matevans2608 lol yeah you're more than welcome to mate. If it is just needing a service I charge £45 plus the return postage. If it's something more sinister it would cost more but I'd get in touch if that was the case. You can book it in at www.consolefix.co.uk/book-your-repair :)
Brilliant mate I’ll get it booked in 👍🏻👍🏻
Whoo you have had enough time off!! Now get working again....
Do you sell Nintendo switch cases
Sadly not mate. I have some used ones but they're not in the best condition
Ok thanks for looking m8 merry Christmas
