Hi all! I apologise that a few clips in this video were recorded in Stereo mode (rather than mono) so some sounds might only come through your left speaker. I got a new wireless mic and still learning!
You are making complete sense to me, Sarah. As you were sitting at the beach and relating your thoughts it was as if you saw inside of me and brought it all out into the open to reveal so much beauty within. You also have a melancholy tone to your voice in this vlog that makes complete sense when one considers the changing of the seasons, the light, the landscape, and even the mystical change in our bodies that is taking place. As a woman in her 60s, I consider myself in the Autumn of my life. As the leaves falling from the trees, I find all of this change to be a metaphor for what has been happening in my life. I'm experiencing a season of great loss and a "shedding" of so many things that have been defining touchstones for me. Winter has become very beautiful for me over the last few years. While I live a life of confinement, I have embraced the joys of home and hearth. I'm learning to bring beauty inside my home in as many ways as possible and to slow down and enjoy it deeply. Warm cups of coffee and tea, a good 📚 book that inspires me, soft warm clothing touching my skin and keeping my nervous system regulated... embracing "wintering" and allowing it to do its healing work deep inside to prepare me for spring which will surely come...these are my encouragements for you! I don't know how much you enjoy decorating your home, but the more I love my home, the easier it is for me to be confined. Sending you my love ❤️😘🙏.
Thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement. First of all you write beautifully and I really felt what you said. I am beginning to embrace the idea of using winter as a time to fully rest, and find beauty in the quiet nothingness. That is incredibly difficult for me...my brain is always a thousand steps ahead. So ultimately it's probably a really important lesson.
Quietlife…. Your post resonates with me as well. I, too, am a person in my 60’s and learning to slow down and savor moments. Now enjoying semi-retirement and the quiet of intentional living.
Hi Sarah, I just came across your channel this evening, and I am SO SO glad I did! I can't wait to binge watch all your video's over the next wee while! Thank you for being 'here', I can relate to so much that you express, about your art, photography/filming and being in nature always. I love your honesty too! 😊
Wolfie is a cinematographer, too. Wonderful camera work, Wolfie. I love knowing that Sarah is safer now that she is accompanied. I always worried that she would have a fall in some of the treacherous places she would venture. I guess it is my age and experience that causes me to think of these things, but they do happen. It appears that you are enjoying your new work with Sarah. I love Sundays with Sarah. I now love Sundays with Sarah and Wolfie. 😊🙏☮️❤️🖖
I always enjoy company when I see incredible places. About half the time I'm still alone, so I think that's why I really like filming and sharing these videos :) either way, it just feels more enjoyable to share!
I have been under some stress lately trying to get my house into perfect shape for company for the holidays. A tremendous amount of stuff had to be done. And now I have all of the cooking to do by myself. I only say this because I’m trying to thank you for making such a relaxing and wonderful video. I plan to watch the whole thing again just as a cathartic remedy to chaos. It’s very soothing and very beautiful. Thank you again Sarah. I may even play it as I go to sleep tonight.
Oh no I'm sorry you have to go through all the stress! I always thought holidays should be about peace and comfort...but I see so many people stressing about it. I hope you get through it!
That magical, silvery autumnal light is only truly known by those of us who live above or below a certain latitude. It makes the whole world glow and it never gets old.
I haven't visited your channel for months since I was injured in a fall at home. I have forgotten some of the places and people I used to enjoy on utube. I love all that you do - it refreshes my soul. So pleased I found you again !
Thank you Sarah, Scotland is so beautiful, vast and wild. You have inspired me to get off my butt on this cold and windy Welsh December morning. Getting out there in nature is so important for my mental health too. Happy Sunday xx
@@sarahinscotland You inspired me to get out, which I did, and was very glad that I did. My focus was the beauty in nature. And it was beautiful. Have a wonderful day. X
Re: biking in the cold - there are shoe covers you can get. I usually just get wool socks & I have a pair of Nike sneakers that were made for winter so they're pretty warm and water resistant. I use a buff that's basically like a balaclava- it will keep you REAL WARM. I tend to overheat easily so I find a circle/infinity scarf works best because I can layer it or unravel it or pull it down when I start to get hot. Def good gloves. I've also used hand/ feet warmers when mountain biking. Thermal layers. A wind jacket with a hood that fits over your helmet (rei brand used to have really nice ones) & jackets with double zippers (so you can halfway zip for ventilation) or armpit vents are really nice too. I really enjoy biking in the cold but not the wind so much ha.
I'll look for shoe covers for sure. Toe warmers are a great idea. Why didn't I think of that! I struggle with anything over my face because my glasses instantly fog up and then I can't see :(
I saw someone else comment on this, but I’m gonna comment on it again…the feeling of this video, from the scenery, the beautiful music and the tone of your voice throughout was so powerful. You have a gift for sure! I really enjoyed this video…the music at the beginning fit perfectly with the landscape…so beautiful! Thanks for sharing…I really look forward to and appreciate your videos. 😊
I always love the beauty of your videos. My cousins are on the west coast of Ayr (where my ancestors, Paternal Grandparent's came from) before settling in America (Michigan.) They want me to come back next year as it has been almost 50 years since last there! I want to see your side of the country. I have a few big suggestions for you since you struggle with the dark times. (1)Have your Vitamin D levels checked and start taking vitamin D. In 2017, mine were so low I felt suicidal - I knew something was wrong. they were at 11 and they went them from 28 on up. (2) Get a happy lamp and use it every morning when you wake. (3) Still try to do physical activity or a walk outdoors (even around the block) to get some outdoor time. (4) Talk to your doctor about seasonal depression. It is very real.
Thank you :) Yes I do take lots of vitamin D, year round. But need to increase during the winter. I did get one of those SAD lamps but probably don't use it as often as I should. Spending time outside is really what saves me
One of the things I always think about at this time of year is that when I start to truly notice how short the days seem it is only four weeks until the days start to get longer. And longer days become noticeable in the weeks after that. I think of November to January as the lazing in a comfy, warm bed time of year.
That's true, thankfully we only have a month until Solstice and then the days get longer.. but still have a couple months of cold wet and lots of grey to get through.
Hi Sarah and Wolfie just need you to know that your channels brings me such joy. I can no longer physically get to beaches and your videos bring that back to me again.... " ooow lets film the waves".... yes thank you.❤❤❤❤
Such beautiful filming! Since you have so much film and pictures, could you not find an artist’s picture library site that you could make a bit of income off of downloading some of your less personal footage? Or maybe a nature site? I went to art school in NYC, and back then in the Late 70s and early 80s we needed to find our sources at picture LIBRARIES through the NYC main library. They were often torn out pages of magazines & prints of all kinds, compiled in rows & rows of file cabinets by subject. What we had to go through back then to find sources for ourselves was way beyond anything young people today could imagine. And those resources were not even available except in the big cities! Imagine how difficult being a mixed media artist would be back then. With printers and everything else the computers have brought about. It’s a whole New World. Good luck!
of course the winter there is scary! It's when all the tattiebogles come out. Not to mention a kind of visceral human memory of starving in a winter that you weren't prepared for , or after a bad harvest or poor catch
Thank you for sharing. Autumn is difficult for me. The sun restores my energy and as the days grow shorter my dread of cabin fever increases. We are not alone! I think I was made to hibernate and I enjoy drawing stars and coloring them in with yellow when I'm awake in the dark. Peace out.
Great video as always, I love seeing Scotland. Biking in the winter, I use a buff to cover my mouth and nose to avoid the cold air getting into my chest, light glove liner and thicker pair over hands and thicker wool socks. I've found keeping my core warm with a wind resistant vest under my jacket helps a lot. Once you start peddling/hiking, you warm up pretty quickly so peelable layers are always a plus for us outdoorsy folks.
It's so hard to predict! I wear a lot of layers and either it's too much or too little, based on effort, wind, temperature. I guess it will come with experience.. I like your idea with the vest. For some reason my feet get really cold!
Maybe you could release an art book with both photography and paintings? I love watching your videos because you capture such beauty in nature. Also your painting and colour experimenting are exciting to watch. Thank you so much for sharing. ❤
If it regularly snowed here in winter I may enjoy it more. Instead it's often just really wet and cold and kind of miserable. However I fully know I can change my mindset, which I'm working on!
Absolutely. Travelling to work every day, with almost no public transport in the area, when it's grey and raining and windy and cold and hardly even proper daylight some days is far less romantic than snowy landscapes. Counting the days until the Solstice when the daylight starts to grow again. There are good reasons why Yule, Saturnalia etc were always big celebrations here in Northern Europe.
Enjoyed your vlog immensely. I’m about 250miles south on the east coast and get seriously claustrophobic if I don’t see the sea at least every 3 days! I sympathise with the loss of light. November signals time to take vitamin D supplements until about April. Seasonal affective disorder is a problem in autumn and winter, especially if you already struggle with mood. So get your daily Vit D fix Sarah! Thanks again, Jill R 🏴 x
Thank you for this... Preparing (dreading?!) my first winter in Moray I needed to see a positive side to things, and yes the autumn colours have been spectacular. I lived in Asia for many years, very close to the equator, and the difference being above 57°N couldn't be more pronounced. October was so incredibly wet, with serious flooding in parts of NE Scotland, but up above the Cairngorms we are relatively sheltered I suppose. Not long to go now until the Solstice - hang in there!
Something that really helped me last year was exercising regularly, a good workout at least twice a week with lots of gentle stuff between (yoga or stretching or exercise bands at home). It made a massive difference. I also did one or two trips to some epic places like west coast and Skye. Trips like that where you know there is snow make it exciting.
Sarah another beautiful video of you in Scotland. Loved the scenes on the beach showing the dark clouds. Scary seeing flying spiders I’ve never heard of this phenomenon.
Oh Sarah that tree stump and beach scene you were sitting on at 3 pm with the atmospheric clouds was the coolest looking setting. That would make a really cool painting. So random, that big tree just there on a rocky beach! You may have already painted it, just wanted to comment on it. Ty for continuing to fulfill our weeks with your life and gorgeous art creative journey!
Isn't it cool?? It's been there for years. I guess it washed up high enough at one point and got stuck in the rocks. I love it. I should definitely paint it
Your photography is so inspiring!! I just LOVE how you consistently find beauty and joy in what is around you - from small branches to dramatic large landscapes. Your practice of appreciating things in the moment and consciously embracing the seasonal changes even with the challenges it can pose (hello seasonal affective disorder!) is the recipe for maintaining solid mental health, and just having a happy life in general 😊 Re: bike riding in winter - maybe look into some neoprene shoe covers. The only ones I’m familiar with go over bike-specific shoes but maybe they exist for normal footwear too?? Blocking the wind is primo as you generally warm yourself up with the effort of cycling, so having the right combo of wind blocking and then insulation that works for your particular body temp generation is the key to comfortable winter cycling, so it’s individual. And also realizing/accepting you just will be cold for the first ~10mins, and may have to shed/adjust layers on long uphills - neither of which is really that much hassle in the scheme of things. Same rules apply for gloves and pants with wind blocking. There are also balaclavas that cover your nose/cheeks/chin that go under helmets comfortably as well, but you have to embrace the hair squashing 😂. Also I know folks swear if you maintain your core warmth then your extremities will be fine but that’s never worked for me - I end up with sweaty torso and freezing toes/fingers. I go with lighter layers on my core and heavy insulation for extremities. All that is to say wear what works for you (except for wind blocking 😂 - that’s a solid rule for everyone!)
Fall is my favorite season. That golden place . I am trying to embrace winter as a time of quiet rest not so easy. Your video is transitional. Thank you
Oh Sara…. I woke up here in Texas this morning (with Covid hanging on 😏) and you made my Sunday. I am sharing this video with my daughter who lives in Los Angeles but studied Art History in Rome and toured Ireland but not Scotland and I’m sure she will love this. Fall is her favorite time of year as it is mine as well. I will soon be one of your Patreons. Love these videos. Love nature….absolutely TERRIFIED of spiders and I live for art and enjoy seeing your art journeys. Take care Sara and enjoy finding your special moments. 😘. PJ
Ah sorry to hear that, I hope you feel better soon! I thought I may have caught a cold this week but luckily it is subsiding. It's this time of year I think! Thank you for your kind words!
I love how you always manage to get outside to paint! I'm really thinking about starting a plein air painting "group" (Me saying I'm painting somewhere and seeing if anyone else shows up) in my area. =)
That's great! The way I started my local group is 1. I went to an annual painting meet-up, it was kinda far from my home but worth it, 2. Met a girl there who was keen on doing it more often and she lives an hour away from me 3. We started choosing a place to meet up each month, and slowly the word spread. There are only a handful of us, but it's so nice!
What’s the only way to make spiders creepier? Yes, you got it: make them fly 😮 Just sayin’ 💯 It all makes sense as you talk about it, Sarah - my area isn’t quite like yours, but you inspire me to find its worth ❤ Thanks for another stunning video! 👏
My first visit here & most enjoyable, fabulous vision. I was born there & migrated as a child. Our fam is now hoping to return after 30yrs. The feeling you mentioned is familiar to sufferers of SAD, which is common to places which have insufficient daylight for optimum health, or in shift-workers & the NHS is familiar with it, my friend was prescribed light therapy & given a lamp that helped her absorb the correct therapeutic frequency & required hours of UV light at home. It's also common in Lupus sufferers who are photosensitive & can't go out in strong sunlight or for long periods without complications. This causes a Vit D deficiency - most ppl wouldn't be aware, but we have frequent blood tests to monitor these types of things. We're then prescribed high potency Vitamin D3 drops, (the normal vitamin pills usually aren't strong enough) which makes an unexpectedly positive difference to how you feel if affected ..About cycling, are you not wearing winter boots to keep feet warm? Hands, feet & head are the weak spots you need to worry extra about in winter imho.. Stay warm.
I'm wondering if I should get a different source of D3 as I do the pills 3000 iu. I'm getting my blood tested regularly for anemia so I'm going to ask them to check my D levels. I usually wear my flexible boots for cycling but they just aren't warm enough. My winter boots are WAY too cumbersome for riding. So my toes freeze. My face as well, since any type of facemask makes my glasses fog like crazy
@@sarahinscotland My physician said that D3 is better absorbed with food. If they're liquid capsules, you could just prick them & have the same effect as taking the drops on bread. Are your socks natural/breathable? Could synthetics be the culprit?
Sarah...I just found your new channel and I love it. I've always been enchanted by the Scottish countryside and your videos and photography do a beautiful job of bringing it to life. Hope you are successful in this new venture.
Hi Sarah what a lovely video. Im totally with you in your thoughts. I love the Autumn, right now it seems so intense and yes, before you know it Winter is here. I love Winter too. I did have a chuckle seeing Woolfie batting the webs and spiders, l hope they didnt ger caught up in his beard lol 😉 Thank you for sharing your thoughts and talent .......Alioban 😊 .......ps..please can l ask about your rucksack. I've started to work plein air and need a waterproof bag. I've looked at so many and they are not quite right. Yours looks so comfy, I'm wondering what make it is, and does it hold up to our weather ? Thank you ❤

Id have a pint with both you when i move to scotland in a couple of month if i have the chanse!
Sarah, do you have any calendars of Scotland for sale? With your photography passion Id love to see what a Sarah in Scotland 12 month wall calender would look like 🥰 just an idea for those 10k photos 😂 Great video. ❤
I make calendars for me family each year (I just order a few). The problem with making calendars to sell on my shop is there will ALWAYS be too many that don't sell, and it's such a waste because they are only good for one year. I guess I could try making a very small batch to sell...hmm
@@sarahinscotland I can understand that, dont wont to create waste. Maybe a pre-oder sale like your for brushes. Anyway, thanks for the reply. I fall more in love with Scotland with blog.
Oh man, the scenery is just so stunning and you did a brilliant job of emphasizing the beauty with your choice of music (you always do, but this vlog was *chef's kiss*). It's funny, I just came across a reel featuring a Dr. Chatterjee (I don't know who he is outside this reel, lol) and he was talking about the fractals found in nature and how simply by observing them (staring at a tree, admiring a flower, contemplating the waves crashing ashore, etc), outside or via pictures, you can access the healing energy of these fractals (this is very paraphrased, of course). I know from watching your videos and getting to enjoy the forests, mountains, ocean/waves and waterfalls, they always seems to calm my nervous system when anxiety is getting the better of me, so maybe there's some truth to what he's saying. Perhaps on the hardest days of winter, you can review some of that footage you mentioned to keep nature close without having to haul on your woolies and brave the icy winds (or, no doubt, in a hard-to-come-by spare moment, you could always compile some of that footage for an ASMR video and/or pair it with some suitable music and share that when the mood strikes ;) ). Enjoy the last few weeks of fall! Hopefully it doesn't get too cold.
Sarah, just stop it with these incredible scenery videos! You're making me want to move there 😅 and there's me living in Fife. Seriously though, you're surrounded by such wonderful subjects to paint and photograph.
It's endless!! I need to explore your area more though, I bet there are so many gems! And the nearby towns with incredible architecture and history were fascinating.

@@sarahinscotland oh my goodness!
Sunset is 4:30pm here too and the days are only getting shorter! Feeling the same, but inspired to spend more hours outside too!
I enjoyed this video so much!
BEAUTIFUL VIDEO SARAH !! THANK YOU BOTH!
Your videos are are a work of art - pure joy to watch, how very lucky you are to live in such a beautiful place...
Thank You for taking us through the walk!
Hope you do a video of what it looks like in Winter with lots of snow and ice. Like your thoughts.
So far lots of frost and ice. No snow where I live yet. But LOTS of snow in the mountains, and I hope to drive there this week to see it
Oh Sarah that tree stump and beach scene you were sitting on at 3 pm with the atmospheric clouds was the coolest looking setting.
I love it. I should definitely paint it
Masterful photoessay, 5 stars
"I end up with sweaty torso and freezing toes/fingers" Maybe this is just my fate 😂
Wow Sarah, the photography on your intro was beautiful and breathtaking. Music selection fabulous. Thank you for my journey in Scotland this morning
Thank you so much!
Fall is my favorite season. That golden place . I am trying to embrace winter as a time of quiet rest not so easy. Your video is transitional. Thank you
Thank You for another absolutely beautiful video what a scenery 😍
Beautiful Scotland ♥
Your videos always looks so calming and the landscape so beautiful.
Ohh I see! It's really helpful to know how these things get started! @@sarahinscotland
What’s the only way to make spiders creepier? Yes, you got it: make them fly 😮 Just sayin’ 💯 It all makes sense as you talk about it, Sarah - my area isn’t quite like yours, but you inspire me to find its worth ❤ Thanks for another stunning video! 👏
Haha yea, the worst version of my nightmare...spider rain!!
Thank you so much!

What a beautiful gift this video was to see today! Thank you Sarah!
I really enjoyed sharing this video with you, your photography is amazing and I love hearing how your beautiful surroundings make you feel so good X
Hi Sarah what a lovely video. Im totally with you in your thoughts. I love the Autumn, right now it seems so intense and yes, before you know it Winter is here. I love Winter too. We are truly lucky to live in such a wonderful country. Ive not heard of the ballooning of spiders, will check it out. Thank you ❤
Omg can you imagine spiders in the beard!?!? YIKES!
😂.....thank you fir earlier comment on rucksacks x
I love how you share your hikes, scenery and time❤️ thank you and Happy Thanksgiving
You’re the best! I hope to make it to Scotland someday. Thank you for all you do for us.
Thank you for posting, this was exactly what I needed today a reminder of how beautiful Scotland.
Is.
20:23 just some random scottish dude chest naked in shorts jogging on the beach, while you're in your parka with gloves and coffe in thermos :D Just found your channel and love it! you and Wolfie are the best! Id have a pint with both you when i move to scotland in a couple of month if i have the chanse!
Hahaha! Sometimes I see people doing the craziest things in the background of my videos 😂
The "spiders webs" you mention are called "gossamer".....
Random question- does Scotland have seashells? The beaches you walk on always look so clean with no debris.
TONS of seashells. For the most part they are smaller.
But also tons of litter too, in certain areas. Most of our litter is fishing related.
I've read a little about fractals and it's so interesting!
I do look through my photos and videos over the winter. So they still have a lot of value!
❤️💚💙
Is my dream to live somewhere like this.
Floating Spiders
Beautiful video and musics! Do you live near Glasgow? I envy you because of the temperature...where I live it is around 40 °C ! Global warming! Peace
No I'm north of the Cairngorms.
I want to buy a home in Scotland next year. Where is that lovely beach??? 15:00 min into the video?
Spey Bay :)
