I live in Washington, and I, too, appreciate the slow driver admonition…pull over and let those faster go on by…I just wish more drivers actually did it. I love your videos, they bring my anxiety level down, and inspire me to paint. Scotland and Washington are about the same latitude, so I share your feelings about these dark winter days. I live on the shores of Puget Sound and in a beautiful small rural town with many opportunities to paint outdoors, if it weren’t for the rain and the persistent 40° F, I would certainly do more plein air. I will content myself to paint indoors and wait for spring. I’ve been to Scotland once…it is beautiful…one side of my family were McDaniels.❤

There seems to be a similar feeling and landscape in the PNW near the coast. My brother & his fam lives in eastern WA so I hope to see them again and have some time to adventure along the coast :)

I find it so interesting that Wolfie was able to see and capture your vision. Art is so subjective and for him to be able to see your vision and capture it on film seamlessly is amazing. Love your channels and appreciate the hard work you both put into them.

He hasn't been helping with video as often as I hoped, since I often go out alone while he does other work. But I'm very glad he helps when he does, especially filming when I'm painting as that is really tricky to do everything at once!

Sarah-- my hack for easy Christmas light storage. Take a plastic like grocery bag ( or any) wind the lights loosely around the bag. When the strand is complete, draw in the ends of the bag and loosely tie it. Then place that bundle in another bag to separate it from its neighbors if more than one strand. Works and free solution

I loved this update! Thank you both! And the auroras.... oh my you sure get to see a skyfull of stunning lights. I've seen them on occasion, and in recent years, it seems I am under rain or heavy clouds when they are happening. (around 42 degrees latitude). It's pretty cool you have a new passionate interest that is a winter thing.....and even a Dark/Night thing. So it makes the long hours of dark soooo much more interesting. Love it. wonderful the 2 of you get to work together. My hubby and I did for many years, and was a good experience.

In November we had some chance to see the aurora in the Netherlands too but my 7 year old and I could only go the the edge of town but we live 40km south of Amsterdam and Schiphol, so there was a sea of light coming from the north so no luck for us, also living in the centre of the Netherlands there is a lot of light polution around.
Next time we are trying to get out of that centre.
I love seeing your aurora pictures and video's and the kid too, so we can enjoy the aurora with you, also my kid would go stormchasing with Wolfie :)

All the more reason to focus on getting more rest, since that's what nature is supposed to do. I always enjoy your vlogs, it's such a joy to watch your videos as I get some painting work done. Is there a sound more perfect than a cat's purr? Me thinks not! If you live down south in Tassie you get to see the Aurora Australis. I know an artist who captures the most amazing images just from the end of her driveway. I'm in the central highlands so we don't get the auroras (a bit sad given we are in a zero light pollution area) but we have, on occasion, when the auroras are strong, a bizarre and uniformly pink sky.

    • @sarahinscotland

Happy winter solstice/holidays, you three! String Light hack: we use spools that came with 3-D printing filament. They are perfect for keeping the lights in order, just make sure the plug with the tines is at the end, not the start of the spool, if you're connecting strings together.

The nothing box is hilarious, and explains a lot about men. I do wish my brain can go there. I agree with the feeling of safety, human v. animal v. nature, especially living in Northern California and growing up in the south. I've biked solo across Germany, part of Scotland and heading to France next year. As a woman I would never feel safe doing that in the U.S. The wild camping (right-to-roam) is amazing in Scotland but people seem to be more respectful of land. The U.S. love to privatize anything and everything and land is a biggie.

@@sarahinscotland Hi Sarah, the Hebridean Way from Vatersay to the Butt of Lewis. I flew in to Glasgow, train to Oban, ferry over to Barra, biked back to Vatersay to experience the full length of the Hebridean Way. It was a culture shock once I hit Lewis, back in a "big city" from being so far out with few amenities. I laugh when you talk about midges because they were relentless on Lewis. From Lewis, ferry to Inverness then train back to Glasgow. I spent a day in Inverness and a few in Glasgow. But the islands were the best, remote, stunning and varied landscapes on each island.
