Wipeout had 2 other direct spiritual successors also
    BallisticNG and
    Pacer
Rollcage was a spiritual successor to Wipeout which now has it's own spiritual successor Grip
Another Wipeout like game was Extreme G on the N64 which has it's own spiritual successor phaseshift
Another Wipeout / Fzero type game was Fast Racing RMX
Maybe in an episode called futuristic racers?

Joe "gacha" is not an umbrella term for anything with login rewards, pay to win, micro transactions or other free to play traits etc.
It's a specific mechanic from Japan called Gachapon. Think the toys in shenmue. It's like early loot boxes, a physical random drop from a machine with the aim being to collect em all.

Great episode as always Joe, waking up to new episodes to watch on a Sunday morning in southern Europe is always a treat. By the way, you can zoom in the action in Demon’s Tilt, but it’s behind the pause menu under “Standard zoom” and “Multiball zoom”. Slide it to tighter and it really makes the difference. I’m playing on PC.
It was thanks to you that I found Devil’s Crush and loved it, and the reason that I bought Demon’s Tilt. ☺️

    • @btr3k
      @btr3k Рік тому

Wanted to mention this too - there are so many options, but they're not in the main options menu. In the in-game pause menu, you can also turn on ball trails which helps keep track of ball location, and enable randomized music which reveals a number of different tunes that can play during the game. You'd think all this would be enabled by default but... it's the joy of discovery I guess?

  • @aquietmonk

Assigning a monetary value to words is pretty straightforward. I use this simple formula:
Number of syllables + the number of times you've heard people you ACTUALLY know use the word commonly +2 or -2 for correct/incorrect contextual usage = value in local currency.
The exchange rate is calculated by how many expletives/colourful metaphors you can use INSTEAD of the word in question, whilst still making sense to the people you are talking to. Bonus value is added if you can use a non-expletive instead and still make it sound like an expletive - I use nadgers instead of balls (not going to put the actual expletive here), for example. Finally an additional bonus is available if you can use a non-contextual, totally surreal alternative and still be understood - for example "I went to the bar last night, had a few too many drinks and was totally kettled!"
I had to learn this as I have the world's worst thesaurus - it's appalling and also it's appalling.

When talking about Wipeout, I thought you were gonna mention Quantum Redshift, as it's the literal spiritual followup of Wipeout, since it was developed by several former Psygnosis' staff. Or maybe even Pacer, which is also a spiritual successor to Wipeout with some of the staff having worked on Wipeout 3 for Psygnosis.

Great video! The first spiritual followup that comes to my mind is Top Gear 2/Horizon Chase (probably the game Joe is saving for ep. 3)!

My thumbs up for this episode and Joe, a good friend to me (?). Never thought or believed some of the games were kinda "successors" to many of this games. Really good. I might try a few of em if I get the chance. Thanks as always, Joe! A big hug from Argentina!

Can't wait for "Games With Dumb Names," 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, and then the 3 hour long marathon episode.

Silent Scope was my favorite arcade shooter of that era... Well Time Crisis ate many of my quarters too.

Also Perfect Dark as a spiritual follow up to Golden Eye? Idk, I never played these games.
