Jurassic Park for the Sega Master System. Really solid amd overlooked platformer. Mcdonald's Treasureland Adventure on the Sega Genesis is also realllllly good, especially the music. The first game made by Treasure of Gunstar Heroes Fame
I still have the Wurm : Journey to the Center of the Earth game physically(original japanese version), i bought from Chinese merchandise early 2000's ...
Silent Bomber for PS1 needs more love, super fun action game. I first played the demo of it in late 90's, and later found a copy of it at clearance sale and i couldn't put it down before i finished it. Highly recommended🥰.
About Streets of Rage 3, there was an interview in a german magazine with the sister of Yuzo Koshiro, who worked on the sprites and design of Ancient games and she said, that they did not work on SoR3. Sega took that one inhouse.
Growing up I would play Final Fight 1,2, and 3 all in one sitting on the snes. Good times! I'm still obsessed with the side scroller beat em ups. (and shmups)
EGM in the late 90's did an issue with the top 100 games of all time. They had Beyond Oasis pretty high on the list, and I remember wanting to get a copy after reading about it.
@@danhectic5629 Yeah mate probably just a different list. It's issue 100 November 1997. Super Metroid made 6th. Top 5 were.. 5th SFII Turbo 4th Super Mario 64 3rd LOZ: Link To The Past 2nd SMB 3: All Stars Edition 1st Green Dog Lol, yeah it was Tetris.

Joe, I've been following your channel for years now, never fails to entertain me Next episode of underrated games, I'd love if you'd bring up Threads of Fate from PS1. It's a Square Action RPG game that I only found out about last year. It plays almost like Dragon Valor, has two stories and an extremely funny plot with loads of gags. It's a beautiful game that no one talks about, you really should give it a look
Another great episode. Thank you. One game I think deserves more love is Jurrasic Park on the Sega CD. It is one of my favorite point-and-click games and the production values are pretty impressive.
@@hellocollegejason198 I did at first but years later after playing it and appreciating it for what it was, it has become one of my favorite retro games.
A criminally under-rated but *excellent* game on the Saturn (mostly because it was a Japan only release and all the npc dialogue text etc is in Japanese) is *Princess Crown*
Huge fan of Destiny of an Emperor on NES. I don't hear a lot of chatter about that one but it is a really enjoyable RPG type but instead of hp you have soldiers. There are tons of characters you can select from. So good.
Modern games that need more love: Caveman Warriors, Gryphon Knight Epic, Horizon Chase Turbo, Neonwall, Nex Machina, Octahedron, OlliOlli World, Trash Panic, Tricky Towers, Tumblestone etc.
A few games that I feel go overlooked or under appreciated... Dynamite Headdy, Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster’s Hidden Treasure, Contra Hard Corpse, and The Flintstones on the Genesis... Bomberman Online on the Dreamcast... Rhythm Thief on the 3DS... Totally Rad and Adventure Island 3 on the NES... Digimon Adventure on the PSP... And of course once again I bring up Penguin Adventure on the MSX.
So glad you mentioned Skyblazer, as it really doesn't get enough love! Though I think it's funny how you mentioned the game being difficult in spots and often frustrating, as I found it to be quite possibly the easiest 2D platformer I've ever played -- I rented it from BlockBuster back in the day, and literally beat the whole game on my first sitting. But I liked it enough that I went out and bought it afterward, so I could replay it again and again! Definitely didn't find any part of the game even the slightest bit challenging, though, nor was I ever frustrated for even a moment. If anything, it was kind of a relaxing game to play, since I could almost just zone out and beat the whole thing without even paying attention to it. I also think it's funny that you mention hating the stage with the wind currents, as that's -- again -- quite possibly one of my favorite stages in any 2D platformer, ever. I LOVE that there's not a single piece of solid ground in the entire stage, and you just have to ride wind currents to get to the exit -- it feels so freeing and fun, and is such a cool change of pace from other platformer games of the time!
Playing a game in 30 fps feels perfectly fine to and I'd honestly rather play a game that consistently targets 30fps than a game that that struggles to maintain an fps of 60 and jumps all over the place
Final Fight 3 reminds me a lot of Streets of Rage 3. Both were games that tried to innovate and improve on game mechanics to play faster, but both were ultimately squashed by the popularity of their predecessors. They're both great games IMO and more people should give Final Fight 3 and Streets of Rage 3 a try.
I love all 3 final fight games but my favorite is final fight 2, I believe it has good balance and the characters are very good. Final fight 3 is great but I don't like a little it's combat system and the slowdowns, BTW the AI for auto player 2 sucks, sometimes the other player breaks your combos or take food and items that probably you need, and he gets hit very easily, fortunately you can disable the friendly hits in options but it mess even more with the AI. Thank you for this awesome video as always Joe.
If you're planning to do a "Better on the last console" episode, may I please suggest? Mario Bros (Atari 2600 vs Atari 5200) Thunder Blade (Master System) vs Super Thunder Blade (Genesis) Mortal Kombat 2 (Genesis vs Saturn) Spyro The Dragon trilogy (PSone) vs Spyro: Enter The Dragonfly (PlayStation 2) Mr. Nutz (Game Boy Color vs Game Boy Advance) Street Fighter Alpha 3 (Saturn vs Dreamcast) Ultimate Spider Man (Game Boy Advance vs Nintendo DS) TMNT (Game Boy Advance vs Nintendo DS) Wall-E (PlayStation 2 vs PlayStation 3)
Ufouria (NES) - I rarely see this one mentioned, but it's a really solid, if somewhat short, "Metroidvania" with a great soundtrack (by Sunsoft... need I say more?). The North American Virtual Console versions had broken audio, but there's a fan translation which combines the 60Hz Japanese ROM with an improved English script. Vexx (Xbox, GameCube) - A darker, very challenging take on the Super Mario 64 formula, with incredibly responsive controls and some really cool world designs. Had a fascinatingly unfortunate development, akin to Dinosaur Planet. Skip the PS2 version, though, unless you like 30fps and muffled sound. Fight'n Rage (modern platforms) - Is Fight'n Rage overlooked? I don't hear about it often, anyway. One of the finest beat-em-ups ever, and I even liked it more than SoR4. If this one is not, in fact, overlooked, then here's another South American indie brawler I just discovered: 99 Vidas. Controls are a tad stiff, but it adds its own fun twists on gameplay and presentation, and it includes some clever boss battles. Carrier (Dreamcast) - This is old-school Resident Evil in all but name. It has it all: the tight corridors, "zombies" of sorts, keycards to find, and campy story/acting. These are what came to mind, but I'm sure I'll think of lots more later, while I'm playing. Or maybe the moment after I hit the "Comment" button!
Love this series, I'm gonna go watch another one... right after these messages from our spon-- No, I mean, right after my game recommendation: Kickmaster for the NES!
Another overlooked game worth mentioning is Nascar Rumble on the PS1.Developed by the same people who made Dead Space series. It's essentially a Mario Kart clone.....but better. The powerups are much more tolerable and not unfair towards you, an issue that is well known in the Mario kart games. In Rumble, if you slow down your car, then you can dodge all of the projectiles being thrown at you whereas in Mario Kart, you get hit by pretty much everything such as blue shell, green shell, boo etc. Afaik, there's no such thing as rubber banding in Rumble so you will have to be good to win the race. You don't see this in Mario Kart. They even have Jess Harnell, the voice actor for later Crash Bandicoot and Spyro games to record some lines in this game. Also, Derek Trucks the famous guitarist almost composed some soundtracks for the game. Whether you are Nascar fans or not, you will love this game.
Great video. A few suggestions I have are Lucifer's Ring on PS1, G.O.D Growth or Devolution on SNES, Sadame on 3DS and Oreshika Tainted Bloodlines on PS Vita.
The dumbest thing about Skyblazer is how you can farm lives so efficiently that they don't even matter. As for Final Fight 3, which I've played through countless times in co-op (we always used Guy & Lucia), the only real weakness is that you can "cheese" most of the bosses by simply distancing yourself from them after every knockout. Btw, you didn't mention one of the coolest things about it, the fact you can choose routes to play different levels on separate playthroughs.

The ladies on the back of Virtua racing Japanese box!
The look like they've seen thing...
Growing up I would play Final Fight 1,2, and 3 all in one sitting on the snes. Good times! I'm still obsessed with the side scroller beat em ups. (and shmups)
The character from Wurm looks like the character when using the Justin Bailey code in Metroid 🤔
EGM in the late 90's did an issue with the top 100 games of all time. They had Beyond Oasis pretty high on the list, and I remember wanting to get a copy after reading about it.
I remember that issue, I have it in a box somewhere. I’ve always wanted to play it
Must be a Mandela effect. Got the issue in my hand and didn't make the Top 100
@@danieledwards1490 probably a different list- is Super Metroid #1? Tetris?
@@danhectic5629 Yeah mate probably just a different list. It's issue 100 November 1997. Super Metroid made 6th. Top 5 were..
5th SFII Turbo
4th Super Mario 64
3rd LOZ: Link To The Past
2nd SMB 3: All Stars Edition
1st Green Dog
Lol, yeah it was Tetris.
@@danieledwards1490 For 2nd place, did you mean "Super Mario All-Stars?" Also, I'm not surprised "Green Dog" got the top spot, but I'm surprised "Lester the Unlikely" didn't make the top five. 😆👍
Beyond Oasis was a great game!
I beat Cyborg Hunter and dont remember using two controllers but I'm an over the hill drunk so there's that.
Joe, I've been following your channel for years now, never fails to entertain me
Next episode of underrated games, I'd love if you'd bring up Threads of Fate from PS1. It's a Square Action RPG game that I only found out about last year. It plays almost like Dragon Valor, has two stories and an extremely funny plot with loads of gags. It's a beautiful game that no one talks about, you really should give it a look
Hot shots golf. Battalion wars. Custom Robo. Ralli sport championship
The Trails of Cold Steel series is under appreciated. Heck the Legend of Heroes saga in general.
Attack the massive crabs weak point for massive damage 😂 was that a historical reference 🤔
ME LOVE GAME SACK LONG TIME
Great episode! Skyblazer looks like a game I would have loved back in the day. Pretty and NES hard.
Massive crab, massive damage. That's just science at work.
Trojan on the NES should be covered.. early game and very underated
Another great episode. Thank you. One game I think deserves more love is Jurrasic Park on the Sega CD. It is one of my favorite point-and-click games and the production values are pretty impressive.
I'll admit I do hate that game
@@hellocollegejason198 I did at first but years later after playing it and appreciating it for what it was, it has become one of my favorite retro games.
A criminally under-rated but *excellent* game on the Saturn (mostly because it was a Japan only release and all the npc dialogue text etc is in Japanese) is *Princess Crown*
I had imported a copy once I found out it was pre Vanillaware. Director on that game would go on to create Odin Sphere and Dragon’s Crown.
I really enjoy Final Fight 3 and Final Fight 2
Stayed for the end skit. Again not disappointed. Amazing
Final Fight 2 is almost as good as 3. Both games are the best beat ‘em ups on the snes.
Young Merlin for SNES was a pretty cool game none of my friends had heard of...
I always enjoy the little skits at the end of these.
Huge fan of Destiny of an Emperor on NES. I don't hear a lot of chatter about that one but it is a really enjoyable RPG type but instead of hp you have soldiers. There are tons of characters you can select from. So good.
Love that game. It was the starting point for my "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" fandom, as Destiny of an Emperor is loosely based on it.
@@Rando1975 It is for sure one that I love to go back to.
Really love these type of videos - I discover so many hidden gems this way!
Omg that shirt
Enjoying this one with a new born on my lap. Thanks!
Modern games that need more love:
Caveman Warriors, Gryphon Knight Epic, Horizon Chase Turbo, Neonwall, Nex Machina, Octahedron, OlliOlli World, Trash Panic, Tricky Towers, Tumblestone etc.
I still own Legend of Oasis on the Saturn!
Landstalker for genesis is a game that deserves more love
Nice sack
I used to play Final Fight 3 and, indeed, a lot of people didn't know it had branching paths and a better storyline with the new characters
2:43 unbelievably based. People these days cry if a game is 30fps and refuse to play it, I really don't get it
Playing a game in 30 fps feels perfectly fine to and I'd honestly rather play a game that consistently targets 30fps than a game that that struggles to maintain an fps of 60 and jumps all over the place
Legend of Oasis is better than Alundra
I am willing to die on that hill
is the puzzle hard?
I love all 3 final fight games but my favorite is final fight 2, I believe it has good balance and the characters are very good. Final fight 3 is great but I don't like a little it's combat system and the slowdowns, BTW the AI for auto player 2 sucks, sometimes the other player breaks your combos or take food and items that probably you need, and he gets hit very easily, fortunately you can disable the friendly hits in options but it mess even more with the AI. Thank you for this awesome video as always Joe.
If you're planning to do a "Better on the last console" episode, may I please suggest?
Mario Bros (Atari 2600 vs Atari 5200)
Thunder Blade (Master System) vs Super Thunder Blade (Genesis)
Mortal Kombat 2 (Genesis vs Saturn)
Spyro The Dragon trilogy (PSone) vs Spyro: Enter The Dragonfly (PlayStation 2)
Mr. Nutz (Game Boy Color vs Game Boy Advance)
Street Fighter Alpha 3 (Saturn vs Dreamcast)
Ultimate Spider Man (Game Boy Advance vs Nintendo DS)
TMNT (Game Boy Advance vs Nintendo DS)
Wall-E (PlayStation 2 vs PlayStation 3)
Doraemon - Taiketsu Himitsu Dogu!! Is a decent gameboy game no one talks about.
Tails Concerto for next episode please
10:39 For every Genji joke reference you make I will henceforth always reach to with the legendary MGS3-Meme: "Crab Battle!
I LOVE WURM: Journey to the Center of the Earth. The main theme has been my ringtone for forever now.
The sack is back!
I rented Story Of Thor from blockbuster when it was released. I really enjoyed it and also finished it.
