  • 9E Error code on Samsung Dishwasher. This video explains how to fix the problem by cleaning the fresh water fill reservoir.
NOTE: Be careful when you reinstall the dishwasher so as not to kink the drain hose. A kinked drain hose is error code 5e. I did that by accident.
Idiotic design flaws (in the name of price) cause a person to either dump their appliances every 3 years or fix them on your own. Wasn't like that even 10 years ago. I choose to fix them on my own because I can then save a bit of money, as well as gauge how bad electronics and appliances are being designed and made in China. This is the second time in 3 years I've had to do this fix to this dishwasher, all because the fill reservoir gets dirty. If I washed my dishes first before putting them in the dishwasher, this wouldn't happen..... lol.

To those having the 'vent cover stuck' issue.
Grab a large pair of slip-joint pliers and open them wide. Stick the jaws in opposing holes and twist.
Mine was very difficult to remove as well. The plier trick worked in 3 seconds.
    OP: Great video, thanks!

Thank you so much. Haven't had a working dishwasher for months. Found your video, followed it to the T, and the washer started right up. About 10 mins into the cycle it stopped and now displays a 5E code. So now I'm trying to figure that out ugh.
Update: found another video about the 5E code (clog), while trying to fix that issue I got an LE code (leak), watched another video. Followed the tutorial on the 5E code by taking apart the bottom inside chamber and cleaning it. Put it back together, followed the LE code instructions by drying out underneath the machine, while there checked for a blockage (found one). Long story short, probably too late, after 3 videos graciously posted on here by those in the know. Even a female that knows nothing about appliances can fix them, so thank you!!!!! It's working perfect now thanks to you all.

I bought a DMT300 5 years ago and it lasted about 2 years before it failed like this. It was such a pita to remove and in the dead of winter I just threw the damn thing away and got a different washer. I then bought a new house and guess what it came with lol. This DMT300 lasted three years before it did the same thing. I am so thankful you posted this. You sir are a saint!!!! We rinse our dishes religiously and couldn't believe how much gunk was still in the tank. Now that I know Ill be posting a video as well to save everyone the $$$. My error was a flashing Heavy and Quick LEDs after two minutes of operation. Thank you again!!!

I purchased the Samsung DMT300RFW in 2011. In 2013 I got the error code for low water level (based on pattern of blinking lights) and the repairman charged me $242 for diagnostic, parts, labor and tax. in 2016 we got the same error code. We tried cleaning the flow sensor as per this video, and IT WORKED. Yay! Thanks husband!
Incidentally I ran the dishwasher before pushing it back in, and I could see water splashing backsplashing from the dishwasher drum through the vent cover into this part....so that is perhaps the reason this dirty situation comes in to play.
Of note this dishwasher doesn't have the digital display for showing the 9# error code, it shows the error codes through blinking lights, as per your manual. But it is the same thing!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. This dishwasher has been driving me crazy and I have been banging on the side with my fist to try to unstick the float. This method worked for a while, but eventually quit. Your video is awesome. It took me awhile, but I did it... I fixed the float myself!!! (It was pretty gunky.) You are AWESOME and I am feeling very accomplished. (Regarding the vent cover, I angled a screwdriver on one of the holes and tapped it with a hammer. It turned easily after that.)

Visiting in 2023! Thanks for the video! I can’t wait to tear into it later. I probably will ream the hoses out to get any residual out of them as well. Also, I will apply some armor all to the float itself as a barrier against any more organic material build up. Armor all is designed for vinyl and plastic so it shouldn’t hurt it.

My husband I just finished this trick. Putting the washer back together and I wanted to make a suggestion about getting the vent cover off. I have had great luck using a wide, thicker than most, rubber band to open lots of covers in the kitchen. Worked like a charm here without damaging the plastic cover. This time I needed to use one of the thin flat exercise bands we had to get a good enough grip to get the thing to turn by hand. No metal tools. We have very hard water so lots of problems with mineral deposits. Found something to use with the soap to help with this during but found that the cover was caked from before with white mineral deposit. I used vinegar (white) any kind should work, full strength to clean the inside deposits off. Sometimes I had to leave a rag soaked with vinegar on the place where the deposit is to soften the deposit enough to wipe it off. A big thank you for the video how-to. Really helpful. Would not have been as easy without it. Could not find the part about putting the seal back on the other side of the vent inside so hope the dishwasher does not leak.

Thank you for this video. It was right on. My Samsung was one model year newer than yours. Samsung apparently figured out that side access was necessary so it no longer has to be pulled all the way out to get access to the box. Not only did your video give me the correct direction to fix the error code, it also gave me the confidence I needed to be DIY and not spend 200 for a repair call.

Thank you! I have a much simpler Samsung dishwasher that blinks lights to indicate errors. Mine was flashing Normal, Heavy and Smart Auto which stands for low water level. My parts were fairly similar and I was able to fix the issue by following your video. My house runs on well water and the reservoir was overtaken by mold because the water is not chlorinated.
It is a ridiculous design flaw and I do not understand how Samsung can keep ignoring it. When I typed "low water level dishwasher" in Google, it auto-completed "Samsung". 'nuff said!

I had the code and gave this a try. As I cleaned it, it wasn't as bas as I thought it should be to make it error out and make the error code come up. While I was putting everything back together, I wasn't optimistic in thinking it that was going to heal the issue. But it did and works perfectly.
Nice job in the video and thank you!

Thank you so much for this walk through. This worked well.
The internal vent was very difficult to unscrew so I improvised a tool.
I took a pegboard hook that had two metal prongs that go into the pegboard.
Inserting those two prongs into the holes in the vent in the middle gave me the grip and leverage to unscrew it.
Kindof like a harmonic balancer puller but used to turn instead of pull.
    Thanks again!

Thanks for posting this. We (my hubby) took ours apart and the reservoir looks different; it is clear and smaller than this one. We must have a slightly different model, but we are getting the same error. When we got the thing out, it was not dirty at all; it looked clean... also, it has a floater in it and nothing was obstructing the floater from doing its job. Ours is a DMT800RHW. My old man hates this dishwasher... he would throw it out the window if he could lift it. He has cleaned out the lower filter too, but the dishwasher still stinks - literally. Thanks again for posting the video. If anyone has the same model as we do and has a suggestion, (like call a repairman, or get rid of it ASAP), we thank you in advance!

Thanks for the informative video! I was able to follow these steps and it solved the problem! Our dishwasher is a DMR77 (series), so the plastic piece that the reservoir is attached to would not move, which made it impossible to unclip the reservoir (I tried for more than 30 minutes). Ultimately, I cut the clip off the reservoir and after cleaning it I put it back and just put a little duct tape to keep it in place. I'm so happy to have gotten rid of the 9e code by myself!

thanks for the help! great video. I just wanted to add that while the water hose was diconnected I took a straw brush and cleaned as much of the gunk out of the hose as I could reach. Don't know how much it might help but it probably can't hurt.

Thank you so much! The video is great. My model was slightly different but you inspired me to try. I was able to clean it out and it is running well. Last time it cost me over $200 for a service guy to replace this part, he probably didn't need to replace it. I wasn't going to pay that again. I do think this a product defect and I won't by Samsung dishwashers again. This dishwasher accumulates mold, slime way too easily.

This video really helped me!!! Many thanks, you saved me lots of money and helped me to make a better decision regarding Samsung appliances. I purchased my Samsung dishwasher model DMT 610 in Oct. 2011 and it's already broken down twice ; and Samsung has done nothing for me.

Thanks! I'm not very mechanically inclined, but it worked like a charm, within an hour. My only issue was that my reservoir clip at 3:40 is designed a bit differently than the one in the video, so it took a few minutes to figure out how to remove it, without breaking it.
