    Had the same problem with my Samsung dishwasher. It's a different model but the same idea. No screws to remove on the bottom panel and the pump housing turns to the right to remove, with no locking devices on the housing, just a friction fit locking system. I also needed to disconnect the water supply line and remove the drain hose from the drain under my kitchen sink due to the way my dishwasher is hooked up.
    Turns out it was a piece of glass that was in the impeller. The vanes have slight damage but the pump still works.
    This video was a huge help before I took this project on. There was nothing I needed to guess at while disassembling it. For anyone with basic mechanical aptitude this is a do-able repair.
    Thank you!

    Thank you so much! Dishwasher stopped draining, looked up the error code and ended up here. As soon as I saw what the problem was with your dishwasher, I knew that had to be an impeller issue with ours, too! It was honestly kind of suspenseful to see what we would find in there - opened it, and voila! A tiny chip from a ceral bowl. FINALLY the dishwasher runs again, with NO money spent on the repair. This is great information and advice. One other thing to check before disassembling the dishwasher is the drain vent at the top, usually located on the sink. Sometimes that will get clogged with hair and lint and prevent the system from draining. The indication of this is that when you disconnect that drainpipe it'll still be full of water. That's a pretty good sign that the drain vent is plugged.

    • @karatefox
      @karatefox  2 роки тому +1

      Absolutely agree. There have been times where I've let dishes hang out in the sink for a while and food debris has gotten washed into that opening. I've used a chopstick to clear the clog in the past. Is there a tool or technique that you'd recommend?

    • @jonpaul3075
      @jonpaul3075 2 роки тому

      @mikefromwa - I disassembled the dishwasher tube from the sink drain and a small dime sized rubber tab fell into my bucket. It still had adhesive on it, so I knew it detached from some item we washed. It looks like a rubber sticker that is found under a cutting board to keep the cutting board from sliding. The heat from the machine loosened the adhesive and it ultimately became stuck where the dishwasher tubes connects to the sink drain. No more draining issues. Thanks @karatefox and @mikefromwa.

I used vinegar/baking soda, and boiling water to clean it, reset the garbage disposal and then tried the draining cycle on the dishwasher and it worked! This video really helped me. A piece of broken glass just smaller than a penny was stuck in the impeller. Like you said, I could hear motor humming but not turning. The pump came apart easily and the impeller housing is shredded from the glass. Now that it's all put back together this gleaming, practically new machine I got for free will replace my crusty old one. Thanks a lot! Wonder how the glass got past the filters......

    • @karatefox
      @karatefox  Рік тому

      That's awesome you got it fixed. I'm guessing a glass may have been dropped in the sink and a piece broke off, washed down the drain and went into the drain tube of the dishwasher. Especially if the garbage disposal was turned on, as the spinning blades could have flung the piece of glass around in the drain until being flung into the drain tube of the dishwasher. In any case, thanks for checking out my video 👊

  • @johnhorsfall9623

    Useful video. It might help some people to know that exactly that same pump is fitted to quite a few machines - including my 5 year-old Teka, and can be purchased as a spare part for less than $50, and then fitted just as you show in your re-assembly.

    • @karatefox
      @karatefox  Рік тому

      That's good to know. Perhaps it's like an industry standard to use that part. It's a sturdy little impeller, and mine has weathered a few jam-ups already. Perhaps Samsung should evaluate their drain design and add a better filter to further prevent foreign material from colliding with the impeller. It seems to be a common failure mode.

    • @johnhorsfall9623
      @johnhorsfall9623 Рік тому +1

      Yes, but I suspect the only way something big gets from machine chamber to pump is if the filter is not absolutely secure in its housing - it's easy to leave it loose, then the water jets will probably move it around. We've had glass fragments get through ours when we have left it a bit loose. That model pump does seem to be used a lot and (oddly..) it's price seems to vary with manufacturer of dishwasher, even though the part seems identical (and I'm sure it is). I see that some US stores ask almost $200 if you are fitting it to a Samsung but I can find what seems to be the same part in Europe for less than EUR 30! Thank goodness BMW don't make a dishwasher. If anyone out there looks to do a replacement, it will be well worth digging around a little. I did something even more miserly. My impeller shaft had corroded and the impeller sheared off - everything else was OK. I found a new pump for less than $15 and realised that the electromagnet internals were almost identical - a bit of sawing with the Dremel, and a little patient epoxy application and it's as good as new. It took a few hours and I would have preferred to replace the whole pump if I could have found one with quick delivery but I couldn't, and I don't like washing dishes.

    • @karatefox
      @karatefox  Рік тому

      @johnhorsfall9623 That's some next level MacGyver stuff right there 👊 I think that's awesome. As far as I'm concerned, as long as a repair works it's good. How's your water inlet valve doing? Those things seem to break pretty frequently too. But yeah, it's always a good idea to shop around for parts because the price can vary quite a bit from one website to another.

    Great video man! Really helpful! I still haven’t found the root cause of my dishwasher not draining properly but I did remove the impeller and it was actually pretty clean. The only concern I have is that my impeller did not want to spin like yours did. It would only spin about half a circle on both directions. I didn’t want to force it because I thought that maybe that’s how it was made but do you think something is causing it to not spin freely ?

    • @karatefox
      @karatefox  Рік тому +1

      Interesting, it sounds like there may be something jamming the impeller from the inside. How old is your system? When was the last time that it was working? What does it feel like once you turn the blades of the impeller? Is there friction after the half turn or does it just feel stuck like something isn't allowing it to make a full revolution?

    • @johnhorsfall9623
      @johnhorsfall9623 Рік тому +1

      It might be the magnets in the motor that give fairly stiff resistance every half turn - that's what they are supposed to do? But not rigid resistance. If so I guess one of the plastic waterproof seals has broken. It's fairly easy to dissemble and simply have a look inside. Take off the large grey plastic ring by prising gently with a large screwdriver, then grab the white, plastic seals with some suitable grips and pull.

      @karatefox  Місяць тому +1

      @04gtno Oh dang, I've been wondering whether or not that part was from the system. It may be worth noting that my water inlet valve also failed around this time and I ended up replacing that part. I wonder if it might be from there? • @04gtno
      @04gtno Місяць тому +1

      @@karatefox that's great to hear that yours is still working. Maybe that part isn't crucial to normal operation. I just put mine back in, but I'm a little concerned that it might come out again. I can't think of any good reason for that part to pop out, but I did blow compressed air through the back end of the drain tube to see if there was an obstruction, so I'm assuming when I did that it popped that piece out. Did you do anything like that also?

    • @karatefox
      @karatefox  Місяць тому +1

      @04gtno Interesting, I didn't try clearing out tye drain tube, but during a different troubleshooting adventure I do remember being a lot of buildup inside the tube, which made me want to replace it-definitely recommend replacing those things every couple years 🤢. It's possible tye part was knocked loose from normal wear and tear from the system vibrating.

    • @karatefox

      I think I just lifted up the float switch and that was enough to make it turn on. You might try turning off your circuit breaker for a few minutes, switch it back on, and then try to run a dishwasher cycle. Usually the system will attempt to drain itself at startup. If nothing happens, it's possible your drip pan is full of water and triggering the system to nit do anything. When was the last time your system was working?

    • @karatefox
      @karatefox  2 роки тому +2

      I'm happy you were able to get it working. Hmm, in terms of the braces to secure the dishwasher, perhaps try these things. First, carefully insert the metal clips into the top slots of the dishwasher frame. Then, carefully slide the dishwasher into the space it goes. Once it is most of the way in, slightly open the dishwasher door by its horizontal handle. This will cause the unit to pivot back slightly and allow the metal clips to slide under the counter top. Then, it's just a matter of wiggling the dishwasher side to side as you guide it all the way back into its space. For the screws, try to find the holes in the wood underneath the counter. Worst case scenario, you could just make some new holes and use a sharpie to mark the area so it's easier to find in the future. Please let me know if this works or if there are specific challenges you're experiencing. Always happy to help 🤔💡

      Happy I could help, thanks for checking out my video. Did the issue end up being related to the impeller?

      Luckily ours was just taking out the twist off cap, metal screen and filter tube and then cleaning everything out. We used a wet dry vac to suck out the cavity and that seemed to make it work again. The water drains completely now. That was the first time we cleaned it out since we got it about a year ago. It's going to be a regular maintenance thing now. Probably once a month hurry and clean the cavity out.

      @@MakeItMike That's great that cleaning the filter and drain worked. It makes a lot of sense to create a formal preventive maintenance plan. An ounce of prevention saves a pound of correction 🤔💡

    My impeller blade just fell off. Wife was ready to drop a grand on that Cafe double decker. Hell no!

      Dang that's crazy. Were you able to just slide the impeller blade back on? Did you have to do anything else to make it stay on? Thanks for checking out my video.
