    Thank you so much for these videos. I have been exploring taking up Vitruvian Studio’s drawing basics course and was really hoping to see how it actually looks like. All the best for your learning journey!

    Thank you for making these videos. Taking the same course.

      I appreciate that the course is challenging, but does a great job of explaining each step as well as the underlying principles. I hope you’re enjoying the course as well!

    Hi, I'm on the same course. I'm on the curved shapes lesson. These exercises are testing my patience although I know that patience is key here. Thank you so much for posting as I don't feel so alone in this endeavour.😊

      You're definitely not alone! I was surprised at times that I could get really absorbed in the process of making these abstract shapes and the time would fly by. I imagine it will be even more rewarding when you apply the skills to a drawing of a real world subject.

    These videos are great! Do you feel as if one can jump right in with Vertuvian, or is it wise to start with Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain?

    • @LeviJonesArt

      Thank you! Vitruvian courses start with the assumption that you are a complete beginner, so you can go straight in with no prerequisite training.

    this line work is kinda giving me Draw-A-Box vibes :D which I dabbled in before picking up Betty Edwards' book DFTRSOTB. I chose Betty's book to propel my drawing skills to a point where I feel like I can draw and will go back to DaB for further instruction.
    tnx for these art videos.

      Yeah, I think the Draw-A-Box exercises are especially helpful for drawing from your imagination whereas the Betty Edwards books are more about drawing from life.

    I like seeing your progress and what you are up to in your drawing journey. Where did you take this course? Online or from a book? Glad you are continuing to improve your skills and that you still like it!

      Vitruvian Studio offers live streaming courses, in person courses in Chicago, and online recorded courses at vitruvianstudio.com/. I’ve been doing the recorded online course and I think they’re very well constructed. The hardest part is gathering all the necessary materials.

    Lovely video, any comparisons to make with Betty Edwards' book and this course. Are there things done better or worse? Also, I've noticed less traffic coming to your videos, hopefully this doesn't stop you from continuing to upload

      Thanks! I would say that Betty Edwards is great for changing your mindset toward drawing and is a gentle introduction for anyone feeling really intimidated. Her course will get you to a basic level of competence, but won’t make lead to professional level mastery. Vitruvian Studio is much more technical and feels like studying at an actual art school, or what I imagine a traditional art school would be. Put another way, Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain is like setting up a tent, and Vitruvian Studio is like building a house. Both methods will provide shelter, but one takes longer and provides a more substantial foundation.
      As for traffic, I’m amazed that anyone watches these videos! I hope I can get skilled enough someday to produce things that really engage people. In the meantime, I hope the videos encourage other people to give it a try.

    Taking same course and already got question to you. I struggle with making lines which are in direction not natural to arm pivot , like in clock face terms it’s from 10 to 4. That without rotating paper is super hard for longer lines, how you achieve that ?

    • @LeviJonesArt
      @LeviJonesArt  14 днів тому

      You should feel free to turn your paper as needed. I didn’t turn mine just because I was filming, but there’s nothing wrong with reorienting the paper to get a more natural stroke. Alternatively, you can stand and reorient your body to the paper. I hope that helps!

      @@LeviJonesArt all right thank you for this hint. actually i draw on my desk with paper laying horizontally and flat, indeed it helps little bit bend my body, turn around the paper if i dont rotate paper itself. some movements are really awkward though, for those i gotta reorient paper sheet to get it right,

    Just a query: what do you do to stay motivated to practice? :) I have found this to be the hardest part even though I have done a couple of very intensive courses in design. :(

    • @LeviJonesArt
      @LeviJonesArt  2 роки тому +3

      My main motivation, I find, is to treat the practice as a sort of meditation. I know that when I finish a session, I feel good, and the hardest part is just starting each time. So I try to tell myself that I don’t have to do it for hours on end, I just need to start and then go for a bit. Then I get into it. Getting encouraging comments on this channel is a good motivator as well!

      Thanks for checking in. These new lessons require hours and hours of practice, so the gap between videos is pretty long. Of course, I’ve never been great at publishing videos rapidly. But the course itself has been great so far. I think I’m learning a lot, but it’s all coming together pretty slowly, since I have to fit the learning around a full time job and family.
