Thank you 🙏🏽 @TobySketchLoose. Yes @cathedralirish820 The light bulb came on for me also! 💡 I’ve been struggling with perspective/horizon lines my whole life (Baby Boomer alert)! I really needed this. The weather in winter gives us the opportunity for indoor hobbies, and I’ve been drawing and painting again! Now I can break free and try a city street or a farm house! I feel liberated to paint whatever I want! Thank You & Happy New Year!
Wow loved this.Best lesson ever. Thank you so very much.❤
I've watched this 3 times so far. Thank you for your fantastic explanation.
This is a very well-presented, clearly understandable video on the challenging (for me) topic of perspective. I’m an old dude that absolutely loves life’s creative side, who’s had virtually no art education, and yet still aspires to draw and/or paint images that others might appreciate. YT is marvelous in helping guide those, like me, who never had the opportunity to learn this stuff. Then I happened upon this site. I feel like a light bulb went on while watching this particular video. I quickly subscribed to this site and can’t wait to explore Toby’s other videos more thoroughly. I just wish I had access to this kind of thing 50 years ago. Thank you Toby for sharing your talents and helping prove that, with a bit of help, you’re never to old to pursue your passion(s).
Thank you, what a lovely comment!
I agree with you Sir 100% I too have developed a deep interest in the arts as of lately. Happy journey to you .
Oh that’s good to hear - I am not the only one who feels like that. Happy new year from Australia 🇦🇺
Great video! Same here! I have had no art education either and a life long dream of creating art, specifically perspective. I’ve watched many videos and this one just CLICKED for me. Bravo!
With you on all those points. Atb…another old guy!😃
I’ve never had a formal art class after high school - this blew my many times!! One of the most helpful videos I’ve seen in a long time!
Wow, thank you!
This video is so so helpful. This is exactly what I have been fumbling with in my drawings and sketches. Thank you so much for making it so understandable. I am so happy to have found this video at the right time.
Wow Wow Wow. This was a great video. I sat and ran through it three times already because perspective is the one thing that eludes me. But, I have confidence now that I can master it after watching this. I plan to practice, practice, practice and watch this video even more until I get it down perfectly. Thank you for making it easy to understand.
Amazing, I'm really glad it helped :)
This is actually one of the best perspective explanations I've seen.
I have desperately needed one that explained it but also took a real drawing and basically worked backwards.
Thank you!
Going to watch a few more of your videos. Even though I don't plan to do much drawing of similar style, I can still learn much
Awesome, thank you!
This really has opened my eyes. Thank you!
Great info on roads not going higher than the horizon line….. a mistake I often make when putting trails in landscapes. They always look wonky. Now I know why! Perspective has always been a challenge for me, so I truly appreciate your simple explanations and illustrations as to how it works.
No worries!
Me too…perspective has always been like math for me…ugh! Can’t wait to try this out!
Thanks! I plan to watch this video a few times to acquire a natural, efficient feel for easily using perspective lines. Your video builds upon what I have previously learned. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you! This is really kind and generous :)
Dude this is the most informative, easy to understand and valuable video I've ever seen in regards to drawing. I'm a casual artist that tries to better himself when he can and this just took me to a whole new level. I cannot thank you enough for this.
Glad it was helpful!
My head almost exploded😅 I'll have to watch this with paper and pencil. I'll have to print some pictures and draw on them. It makes sense for sure. Thank you Toby. Persective is 1 of many things I have trouble with. On a short, which I can't locate, you were heart broken about a comment from someone not improving their art. I can relate. I have taken all my art supplies to Goodwill many times. At times the frustrations are to overwhelming. I draw
something everyday from "how to draw" books but can't look at something and draw it. I try to resist chucking stuff but I just get so depressed. It's why I did inktober. I figured it would be a hot mess but was fun attempting different ideas.
Again, thank you for your wonderful videos. They are fun!
My pleasure :) Hold onto your head for now!
@@TobySketchLoose 🤣Kaboom💥
Excellent demonstration! I have struggled with perspective in the past but you have really helped me understand how it all works. Thank you!😊
You're very welcome!
Honestly, this is the first time that perspective has made sense to me. Thanks!

Best explanation of perspective I've seen! Thank you!
Such a fantastic exploration of perspective! I have read books, I have had classes but somehow you manage to bring the critical things to remember, in the order you need to remember them. Brilliant.
This is one of the few videos that has actually helped understand perspective. Thank you so much... I hope you keep making more videos like this:)
Awesome thanks
What a great instruction! Really helped me!
Wow. Absolutely perfect and will watch again and again as I practice. Thank you ❤
Thank you! An excellent explanation. Now I understand 🙏👍😅

TOBY!!!!!! FINALLY! I was feeling stupid (I’m not hard on myself….no) and discouraged. Then I saw your video. Hallelujah! Thank you for encouraging and equipping all of us!
Haha pleasure :)
Great tuto ! Very well explained ! Thanks :):):)
Wonderful teacher! Thank you! I get it!
You're so welcome!
WOW ... it clicked for me. like @catedralirish820, I am an older (68) and new (6-7 weeks) watercolor/sketch newbie. I haven't done much drawing or watercolor since grade school and was teased by family for my art so made the decision that I was not creative. I've been a hobby photographer and now also videography and my day job was as a self employed software developer. So, finally common sense kicked in and I realized that I was creative :) ... so, now learning watercolor and drawing.
All that to say after some good, bad and ugly illustrated journal entries, after watching this video, I quickly sketched a desk that was raised to work standing, located about 18 feet away from me. I was able to see horizon and the lines of perspective AND my result ... holy cow! I can't wait to try more. Thanks!!
I'm really sorry I missed this lovely comment for so long, thank you I'm really glad you gained something from my little video!
Thanks so much for this lesson Toby. I once had an art teacher who tortured his class by wasting one third of the lesson every week on repeatedly explaining perspective. I came to actually hating the topic and resorted to just common sense winging it. Cheers from Toronto Ontario Canada 🤗
Haha winging it is the best way :)
Well, this is just amazing. You’re an excellent teacher. Thank you!
Thanks :)
Truly inspirational and genius level teaching!
Wow, thank you!

Glad it was helpful!
This is brilliant!
That makes so much sense now! Thank you, Toby!!
My pleasure
2 things... 1) people of the same height have the same horizon or VP. 2) in the example of the guy sitting, people of the same height of the guy standing would have the horizon line cutting through the same body part (in other words if you're at one guys knees, all the others would be the knees as well...
🙏🙏👍👍
Your lessons are so good! Thanks!
Glad you like them!
Super helpful Toby, thank you!

That sounds like a great topic for anyone interested in art and drawing! Perspective is such a fundamental skill in sketching, and it really brings drawings to life by adding depth and realism. It's wonderful that there are resources available to make learning this skill more accessible. For anyone wanting to improve their drawing skills, understanding perspective is a game-changer. Keep up the great work in exploring and learning new artistic techniques! 🎨✨

Great video - thanks! You've got a new subscriber
Welcome aboard!
This is brilliant!! It’s so simple and easy to understand! I’ve been wanting to start doing plein air drawing for a long time, but I never could grasp the perspective part. I watched a hundred videos, but they all seemed confusing and almost anti-artistic in a way, because the explanations were either too “technical” or just lacking all the information… maybe it was just me! LOL YOUR video was totally understandable, easy to grasp, detailed, and do-able! I’m 100% sure I can incorporate your excellent instruction and begin my plein air journey (without a slide rule or scientific calculator 😂). Thank you so much! 😊
👏 This was fabulous.
Lovely to hear!
Really well done explanation.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks!
Awww thanks! Very generous of you 😊
Thank you SOO MUCH for this explanation! I’ve never been good in composing scenes and I never knew why. Now it all makes sense…
I am trying to return back to sketching. I saw some videos that already improved my skills quite a bit. And I am so happy to find your tutorial as I am super interested in urban architecture sketching! ❤
Happy to help!
