    I just bought a 08 f450 6.4l and I want to do this single turbo conversion. Still learning a lot about diesel this is my first one. Just ordered all my maintenance fluids and filters.

      Welcome and congratulations on your purchase. If i have 1 piece of advice, is when you do any maintenance on your truck...ensure its done right. Theres nothing wrong with doing what i did but it took me a few months to work all the bugs out and see where the weak parts where. My biggest issue was turbo drain tube leaking all the time...eventually i got it figured out that was 5 years agao lol. Good luck and stay up on your routine maintenance and congratulations again

      @@brandonmorey3441 thanks I will. This was my work truck I've been driving it for about 3 years. They're buying another truck so I bought it for dirt cheap! It's been deleted and studded. I just got the tow/haul working against along with 4wd. Just looking to increase longevity as I'm using it to pull my camper. I heard people changing to a single turbo. Still have a ton of research to do unfortunately

    Just bought an 08 6.4 the motor itself is brand new but the turbo has 150,000 and change. Would you recommend doing a single swap? Gonna be doing a lot of towing. So not really gonna need it to be fast.

      Looking back i was really happy the way it towed with the single. If im being honest, it towed better with factory turbos. This may be due to the tuning i had or turbo size. Dont get me wrong as i said i was happy the way it towed with the single just IMO it was smoother with factory.

    I’m guessing you did not take the cab off to remove the factory turbos lol how hard was it to remove them with the cab on and do you have any tips on removing them?

    • @brandonmorey3441
      @brandonmorey3441  4 роки тому

      You are correct! No cab removal at all. The best tip i can give is make sure you have a ver durable 1/4" drive ratchet that can handle a small cheater pipe whit swivel and long extensions to have reache. From what i remember i was removing them 6 or 8 small bolts from the top of the transmission bell. It took some patience just be sure whatever you do...make sure your sockets are 6 point and on completely to avoid stripping.

    Really curious what the point is if going from a compound setup to single turbo, unless you're looking for either A) turbo lag, or B) less boost. Neither are something you want...

    • @brandonmorey3441
      @brandonmorey3441  5 років тому

      With this specific set up it was actually the opposite of what you said...i was in fact able to easily achive 50+ PSI and the tunes i purchased woukd light the turbo slightly faster than stock sequential turbos. I wanted to put out more HP and the only way to achieve that was this turbo or expensive drop in units and this route was by far cheaper.

    • @linkedmoo_man
      @linkedmoo_man 5 років тому

      Just sounds odd to me. Typically the reason you run a compound setup is so the smaller turbo will provide you with boost while you're larger turbo spools up. Are the factory turbos just that bad that a single turbo setup runs better?

      Listen its been a while since i did this job so i will answer solely off my memory. If it serves me correctly the most challenging part was removing 6 10mm capscrews from the up pipes behind the turbo. Dont forget you got 4 bolts on the pedestal to remove and i think honestly that was it

    • @brandonmorey3441
      @brandonmorey3441  3 роки тому +1

      Well my buddy now lives 4 hours south of me and no longer works at a machine shop. Ill tell you how to at least get on the right path. 1st thing your going to have to build a template...once i removed the turbos i used a piece of construction paper and placed it up against the up pipes...if your careful and get it flat up against the up pipes without sliding it..the soot will leave an outline on the paper...i simply traced it with a pen then cut it...then i found a slim piece of wood like panneling or left over laminent flooring then used my construction paper to make an outline on the wood...drilled the holes, and mated it to my up pipes to make sure it would bolt...once you do this you can take it to any machine shop localy to you and ask them to make it out of 1/4" steel. Should not be anymore than $30. Keep in mind you may have to use a drill to widen or oblong any holes that may be slightly off since your making a template and theres room for human error.

      @brandonmorey3441  6 років тому +1

      jet0577 well my friend I do believe theres alot of opinions out there on this and i will explain from MY experience since the transformation. I have seen lower exhaust temps, im not boosting like crazy on the highway, less driving preassure, more horse power for sure! Now can all of the above be achieced with custom tuning? Mabye i am not sure because i never went that route. Ive heard that around 110k the factory turbos thake a dump so i wanted to get ahead of that before it left me sit. I do know it took me a hefty portion of my day to remove the factory units and it was a royal pain. I have removed this single unit in less than an hour due to servicing and one other time to fix a leak. In all reality my reason for choosing a single over performance compund or sequentials was because i heard alot of sucess with singles and i love the sound of the exhaust and finally for ease of removing a single unit instead of sequentials. I hope this helped

      Adrian Arriaza No worries I like to help where I can! anyways so when you buy a programmer you need to make sure the programmer itself is capable of your needs (emissions bypass) not the preloaded files on the thing. after you have a programmer you know is what you need you will reach out to a custom tuning business and explain to them exactly what you want (single turbo tow tune, race tune ect.) than once they email you the files you will follow instructions on getting the trim files to your device and then from the device into your truck. I am going to copy a link here so when you purchase a programmer you kind of have an idea of what should be in the description. hope this helped

      Sorry bud this was 3 years ago lol. I do know that i modified the original pedestal by cutting it flush and drill and tap new holes in it

      My center vertical plate was 5.5 inches with the t4 flange included..the flat plate that i mounted to the original pedestal was big enough to secure it with 4 bolts...

    Why change the Factory Turbo Installation ??

    • @brandonmorey3441
      @brandonmorey3441  7 років тому +2

      vaccumme I can't speak for everyone so I will tell you from my prospective. it's kind of a known maintenance issue that the factory turbos usually need a rebuild or replacement around 150k-200k. having said that I myself was approaching that mark, and rather do something now before it becomes a problem (preventative maintenance.) As to why I personally chose a single turbo instead of factory units, was pure curiosity on my behalf. I looked into what people were saying about they're own experience with them and I figured why not? if I can do this at a cheaper price than factory, than why not? If this single system "drives better" , than why not? So I did the conversion at an affordable price, and honestly I'll never look back. the truck is so much more alive now. it has very good power, pulls great and if the turbo ever goes, I'll be replacing 1 turbo instead of 2 turbos (more expensive.) I hope this gave you a better view of why I chose to do a single.

      @@brandonmorey3441 what tune are you running? I'm currently doing a single turbo swap on my 6.4 right now.

    Hey man I’m about to build my own pedestal you wouldn’t know the dimensions of the pedestal like height of the flange the length of the pipe and length and width of the base with the position of the flange in the base?

    • @brandonmorey3441
      @brandonmorey3441  4 роки тому +1

      Well i modified the original pedestal cutting the long pipe flush, drilled and tapped holes into that so i could bolt a flat plate on top and welded the flange to that. I dont remember or have my measurements. Sorry

      Powerstroke6.4 i am really glad someone else out there is doing this as well. I will say i recomend if you can swing it to throw heavy duty up pipes on wile your at it...mine blew about 7 thousand miles later haha...make sure you let me know when your done so i can see how it turned out

      brandon morey sure will man, it's going on a brand new long block engine with zero miles on it. I got new up pipes and basically everything is new. But I can say the stock turbos are complete junk. First crank on the new engine the seals and bearings blew out and pumped oil out my exhaust, not very happy and the company I bought the turbo threw isn't going to warranty it. So single time it is with the s366sxe and I'm so excited to see how this new engine links with the new turbo.

      Powerstroke6.4 thats awsome! Not the turbo part anyways. If i had to do anything different honestly I would probably do a s364.5. Im not sure if its the tuning or the turbo but its been runing with a little more smoke lately. Either way im stoked to see how it comes out man. Keep me posted!
