@Roberttannenbaum your welcome and I don't mind sharing my knowledge or what I know. We all need help along the way and just paying it forward. I'm trying to work on some more videos, I had a bunch till my software decided to lose/delete them all. So when I get some time I'll go and get another editing software and go through all my videos I recorded and start all over..lol.. if you have any more questions please feel free to ask.
Robert Tannenbaum You welcome 👍 this one I had done the full delete before we did the single turbo swap and with the H&S mini max tuner. But when you do the single turbo swap it still has to be tuned. You have to delete the Variable Vains from the old turbos..AKA electronic waste gate actuator.. then you have to tune it for the single. Fueling is going to be different, MAP, fuel timing, injector timing..ect..your typical tuning. But I do recommend running an external waste gate and boost controller like I have on this one to help control the boost. I got a 60mm external waste gate and made my own piping from the up pipe to waste gate and then your dump pipe off the waste gate running down next with the down pipe.
Robert Tannenbaum Alright and if you have any other questions let me know. I've done a lot of these kits on the 6.4l. Cause the factory compound setup wasn't the greatest..lol..but the single Borg S400 is perfect. Great power and great towing power.
I plan on installing H&S K16 twin fueler kit and an AFE 780 LIFT PUMP. Why, because it's a plug in play lift pump. No chopping and supports 2000hp also you can have it pump by boost activated only or constant. I'm not sure about 100hp or 150hp I injectors? Your thoughts and any advice will be appreciated. Thank you,
If you're going with dual fuelers and plan on going more up on HP... I would go with 150hp due to the fact that will allow you to grow and not have to worry about the fueling when you do. And if you can control the fueling with the pumps so you dont load the cylinders up with raw fuel and hydro lock your motor. But a good tuner can do that on the high pressure pump. Normally I will advance the timing of the pump on the top end and decrease it on the lower end a smidge and then more at idle so it will not dump raw fuel at an idle.
One more thing I would control the pumps by boost as well. I like to have things controlled by speed or boost reference. Alot of people dont but I do cause it's a lot safer and your not over working/stressing your motor. Cause when you just dump a ton of fuel in on the takeoff or a slow dig you dont have enough air/compression to burn/ignite all that fuel..hence the black smoke..aka rolling coal. And all that does is wash you cylinders walls out and your piston rings. I have made tons of power without having them blow black smoke, they will do a slight haze on the first couple seconds and then clears out. But i do have alot of younger customers that have to have it blowing black smoke..lol
What mm turbo? To achieve 800hp and hope to tow still. What's your recommendation on turbo size? I have all CAC pipes and using a h&s wastegate now. I'd like 800rwhp lol but towing would suck.
I would do the S400 with the billet wheels and ball bearings on cold and hot side. Throw a boost controller on it to turn it down for towing. I run the Halman manual boost controller but it has it where you can adjust it from inside the cab. So no more opening the hood to adjust it..lol.. I know Smedding diesel makes one bigger then the S400 and it's a beast, but it's a little laggy, the only fix is to do a S400 hot side and then the bigger cold side.
Hot and cold side bearings? So is the S400 billet or cast? And I'm running the h&s mini max hit dam 300hp tune. I seen timing degree screen. It's at 22° For default install. To much advance is hard the motor right? Yet usually gives more power though, or am I wrong on that? And I have a AFE Stage 2 cold air intake on my stock compounds. Will I need a new elbow for air cleaner? Thank you, keep up the good work and videos.
@@kendocken5149 just go with cast housing but billet wheels. And yes more timing is hard on the motor, but once you add the turbo you can bump it up to about 25° and see how it does. When you order the turbo let them know what cold air you have so they can get you the right elbow for you cold air. Also the hot damn tune I have never used but maybe 2 times for race builds. But even at that I still go in with my laptop and do my own thing. The ones that don't want to pay for me to fine tune I will set at street tune and then tweak the tune on the H&S. Every truck responds different even if they are built the same, it's just how its always been..lol
Mikefromtexas thank you, setting my wastegate with the stock compounds is a bitch. Boost spikes at 41,42 then drops to 38psi with wot. With regulator 2-1/2 turns in from full out. Yet on hwy it spikes with little throttle. Wish I was in Texas. I'm in libtard Washington state. These Subaru and prius people hate us diesel guys. Lol,
Mikefromtexas there's more than one wheel? Stupid question, you said billet wheels and order the single S400 turbo kit with ball bearings on the hot and cold sides correct? Sorry for dumb questions, lol. I just wanna do it right.
A mike so you don't use the actualater with the single turbo setup?been looking to do this to my truck really soon I don't want to burn rubber just get some good old hauling an longevity out of the truck
@Roberttannenbaum No I don't ever use them on the single turbo swap. Also you can't use them since the turbo doesn't have a internal wastegate, you can get a internal wastegated turbo and just have to run the vacuum line from turbo compressor housing to wastegate. That way is easier and don't have to build a pipe for an external wastegate. But when swapping for the single turbo the tune will write out the factory electronic actuator. But going to a single turbo has been proven to hold up and more efficient as well. The one I did (in this video) he has put about 100k miles and hasn't had one issue. I did the same to this one, it was for hauling and daily use. But I have the wastegate/boost control on this one set at 35psi. Smiding Diesel will Taylor/build a kit for what you need, they build to order so the turbos dont sit and go bad.
Max Smyth we got the H&S and did the typical deletes. Then I did some data logging and then I wrote 2 custom tunes. A low boost and then a high boost and I have it set up where just a flick of a switch it swaps the tune
Mike, what program do you use to write a non vgt tune? Everyone I call WON’T write me a single tune unless I have all my emissions shit on my truck! Please READ YOUR COMMENTS BROTHER!!!!!😊👍🏻🇺🇸
Bobby Smoke6.4DZL if using th Mini Maxx you have to use the MCC software which is free to download. To write your own tunes you have to buy a code which if you just google it you’ll find a place. Costs about $250 for the code.
Smeding diesel sent it in there kit. Also depending on what turbo you use. But it was -10an fittings is what I opted for on the kit and the return fittings are also swiveling oring sealed style.
@@DontTreadOnMe17 Make sure there is no boost leaks and also you have to have it tuned to delete the VGT and Remap for the single turbo. When I tuned this one I took minimal tuning and that was adding 3 settings as well
u had to remove the fuel cooler and reservoir? looks like u undid it from the top of the banjo bolts if you did remove it. did you drain the coolant whenever u pulled the compounds?
Jessie Dao yes all of that had to come off. I had the whole cab off the truck when I did everything. Did oil cooler, high pressure pump and then the single turbo kit plus a couple more things.
Robert Tannenbaum of you read in the description about the video it tells who I get the single turbo conversions from. I get them from Smiding Diesel. And it depends how you build your kit, this one I upgraded well the customer wanted to upgrade things. But this particular one was around 2500 for all parts and then another 1600 in labor and tuning. They build to order and that's what I like cause it doesn't set on a shelf and ruin the seals. But I've used about all the others guys out there, and this is by far the best quality, prices and staff. Also the easiest kit to put on as well.
Cool man I've got the same kit with the 366 6 blade. Spools good and a lot more turbo noise. Just wondering, I"ve still got stock exhaust with deletes, would a 4 or 5 inch make a big difference?
Robert Spencer I went with the 5in exhaust on this one. It helps spool faster and lowers the egts a little more. And yeah its a great kit and he is bringing it back for a little more boost and change the wastegate spring out to a 20lb. I have the wastegate clamped on boost so it builds fast and smooth.
