Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 бер 2020
- This is a stainless steel exhaust system by PPD, its a 3" system which allows higher exhaust gas flow for increased performance and a better sound of the vehicle when compared to stock exhaust system.
This particular systems specs as per PPD website:
- 3" Polished 304 grade Stainless Steel Piping, stainless corrosion resistant --- components, coated steel flange plates.
- EGT port included in dump pipe (1/8 NPT)
- High-flowing design but no drone
- 3 bolt connecting flanges for bolt-on installation
- TIG welded
- Mandrel Bent
- Gaskets and bolts included
I have never done this before so here is what went down when i installed this system to my 2012 Toyota Hilux.

Update...
The exhaust bracket that connects to the bell-housing has broken which i believe was my fault (see the 9:00 for the bracket im referring to) but the bracket has snapped through and also created a crack where the bracket attaches to the exhaust itself. Iv welded the hole in exhaust and just have removed the bracket entirely, so far it's fine but time will tell where the next stress point will be, due to the lack of support now where that bracket was. Cheers
Just fitted a PPD 3" system to my son's N60 Hilux. The nuts on the dump pipe were a great pain in the rear! took forever to remove. Once everything was off it was a 5 minute job for 2 clueless do it yourselfers. The sound and lowdown torque increase made it all worthwhile...............
Solid watching for another day in isolation, great work man! Good to know re. those tabs on the gasket, I wasn't sure.
Thanks mate, appreciate the comment. Stay home = save the country.
It's alive!!!
How many comments starts with "hey mate"😂😂
Hey mate, good comment. Bye mate!
Thank you for the detailed video i am planning to fit my PPD exhaust soon. I might grind off the collar on the bolts where they touches the welds.
Hey mate, shouldn’t need to grind anything, I just started spraying the bolts and nuts with CRC about a week beforehand and they came off easy as
Nah hes talking about the bolds that join the different parts of pipe together, there are welds in the way making it tricky to get bolts done up.
I did mine backwards. In that I chipped her first then added a throttle controller and I’ll do the exhaust now.
Great video.
I set my Steinbauer conservatively and I’m stoked remembering she’s no late model Ranger, Navara etc.
Yea I love my ute, more than any modern day ute that’s for sure. Cheers for your comment!
Cool video, good job
CR thanks!
Hey mate, great video thinking of getting one for my hilux. Was your Ute a bit lacklustre in power before? And has it made much of a difference?
Nice, yea look i don't think the exhaust system alone has made much of a power increase but im planing to get it dyno tunned and i think this will help squeeze a bit more power than a stock exhaust system.
I like the standard 2007 3.0 d4d tone
Yea, each to their own i guess. I defiantly like the deeper tone but at times a quiet ride i don't mind either haha. Thanks
How good
Very good my friend, thats how good!
Think i may have gotten wrong exhaust . Anywho is the turbo back same as turbo exhaust cos idk what the square shaped on end of pipe is
hey man did you end up getting a tune/ do you think they are neccessary got 3inch on the way, have heard you dont need to but to take full advantage of it, its wise. whats your opinion. also nice vid :D
Hey, no i haven't got the tune done yet but it's on the wish list. Ive heard the tune will make a fair bit more power with the stock exhaust but having the 3inch should allow to squeeze a bit more out of the tune. Cheers
Hey mate, about to install this on my hilux and wondering what those bolts were on the turbo and do you reckon I should get new ones or use the factory?. Cheers great video!
TimTamSlam101 The actual bolts on the turbo are studs, use those but get new nuts for them. Cheers
you should install a hard limiter it would sound great
Sounds fkn mad braaaaaa!
hey mate, did you use any sort or gasket sealer/ gasket glue between the all gaskets and the exhaust pipes? thanks
Hey, nah no sealer or glue just the gaskets themselves. Thanks
Hey mate great vid. Have spied that ya have an i drive on the Hilux - how did ya find it? would ya recommend it for the money?
Haha yea man 100% that IDrive is the best thing iv done to my ute. Not only to give the feel of bit more power but also I use in eco mode when off road on real bumpy stuff like up a rocky river or something, it takes the jerkiness out and makes for a way smoother ride. Sooo worth it I reckon and simple as to install
Any update on how it's going and your thoughts? Also was the sound change as good as you expected. Thanks
Ty Lawrence Hey, yea loving it really sounds grunty! Love the fact that’s it’s stainless too. Haven’t had a tune done yet but hopefully will be able to squeeze more power with this exhaust compared to stock. Cheers
Just had my tune done not long ago and man it’s pretty good now, 100% loving it
Hey mate, do you have any other performance mods? e.g. turbo and all the rest of it to make it sound how it did?
Hey, nah no turbo mods, just the staino snorkel, high flow air filter, tune, and an IDrive is all iv done. Cheers
Hey mate. Great vid. Where did you get your snorkel from?
Mike Boulton hey, got it online from “trundles” cheers, really happy with it
-HCL- cheer I’ll take a look!
just wondering if you get any drone at all. especially a constant revs like going down the highway
Nah nothing annoying anyway ae it defiantly is louder than stock but it’s a nice noise if it makes sense haha
Hey mate after you installed the exhaust, did you get any vibrations or slight shuddering when accelerating inside the cab??
Hey, I did get a slight vibration noise and it was the tail pipe only just touching a part of the suspension leaf busing. But that was more of a noise than a vibration. So other than that. Nah it was all fine.
@@Lindz37 Hey mate, what did you do to stop them from touching?
@@koristevens7829 I believe I just bent it a little bit from memory.
Thanks mate did u use gasket glue with the gaskets supplied
Hey, nah no glue used on anything. Cheers
Hey mate, what did you use to get the bolts off the turbo for the dump pipe, as the bolts are in a tight squeeze and there is not a lot of leverage. Also did u do it when the motor was hot?
Hey, cant remember exactly what i used but it was a combination on ring spanners and ratcheting ring spanners and just sockets with extensions etc. I did mine when engine was cold. thanks
Apparently its easier to remove after you've just taken her round the block. Especially turbo back with a bit of heat
Its sounds awesome bro! Is hilux a good off roader?
Lostre Lospsi Thanks mate, yea you can’t beat a hilux haha, yea it’s prefect for what I want to do, if I had the choice tho I’d go auto.
@@Lindz37 So we want more videos! Cheers!
@@Lindz37 I have another question mate. Why do you prefer auto?
Lostre Lospsi modern autos are pretty good now days, they allow for more control of speed off-road. I find the Hilux is pretty high geared even in low ratio, so the ride off road isn’t as smooth as an auto would allow. Thanks hope this helps.
Hey is it much louder in the cab? Also can you keep her fairly quiet if need be?
In the cab it's not too loud i don't reckon but defiantly louder than stock. Out of cab much louder. Yea in town etc keeping the revs down and shifting gears early keeps it quieter and doesn't attract attention. Hope this helps
Have you had any trouble with the welds rusting?
Hey, Haven't had a proper look but i haven't noticed any when i have a quick look under.
What would you suggest for someone who is going to instal this exhaust for themselves at home
Hey, Uhm I was that someone doing it at home but with a pit haha I had never done one before but just go easy and it’s not too bad. Just those three nuts on the back of turbo to dump pipe if you strip them it makes life very hard haha so be very careful.
Let me know how you get on.
Doubt I’ll get a reply as it’s been over a year but how do you find passing warrant of fitnesses with the ppd exhaust? I’m about to buy one but thought maybe they’re too loud?
Hey, nah man all sweet, iv had a couple wofs since fitment and allgood. Just through normal garages etc not a special mate or anything haha
@@Lindz37 legend, cheers mate . They sound much better than most 3 inch exhausts.
@@jacobhingston5918 yea, I really like mine, not too loud either so not as annoying on longer trips
This is hks exhaust system part
How long and prior and how many times did you spray the bolts with crc? Thinking i should do it daily for a few days. Haha.
Hey I just sprayed at the time as I diddnt know what I was in for haha. Yea spray for a few days and few heat cycles and should help, use penetrating spray of some sort if u can
Is the exhaust resonated and does it have a catalytic converter?? Cheers isaac
Yep and yep its a "high flow cat" cheers
hey mate have you got a part number for those manifold nuts you used please
Hey, sorry nah I just walked into the nuts and bolts shop with an old one and asked for the same sort of thing. Sorry I can’t help ya there.
Hey mate did you get the high flow cat and Dpf delete module ?? Cheers
Hey yeah I got the high flow cat. I don't believe my ute had a DPF to begin with.
@@Lindz37 okay cheers mate
His hilux didn't come with a dpf, that's like the next year or year after models that dpfs were installed
Wow
did you use any gasket cement on the gaskets ?
Nah man just the gaskets they sent with the system. Doesn’t leak.
Good Video, so 2 years on now, any issues with it?
Hey, Yeap still loving it, only problem iv had is the tab that is bolted to the bell housing, the one I modified to fit has broken off. Iv heard of many others that have done the same thing but iv just left it broken and haven’t had any issues at all. Cheers
ay i have a 2011 nissan navara tubro diesel
i done a 3inch turbo to back straight pipe and it sounds nothing like this do you know why ?
Hey, Uhm at a guess it sounds like a bit of a different set up to mine iv got a resonator in my pipe as well as a catalytic converter. Straight pipe will sound different.
hey mate just a quick question did you find that the exhaust got louder over time as it set in place
Hey ya nah not any louder over time I don’t reckon.
just another quick question about those 2 bolts on the dump pipe, what are their purposes and do you have to tighten them
@@AnthonyKatra-mr1gl I reckon they are for a sensor like an EGT or similar, yea I tightened em up to make sure they don’t come loose and all out
Hi! Where can I buy one of these? I have a 2021 Hilux. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Hey, just go onto their website and order directly from them. Cheers
@@Lindz37 Thank you!
Wondering if you tightened the sensor bolts?
Hey, the bolts on the down pipe for sensors? Yep, didn't show it but put some high temp thread locker on em too. cheers
What sticker is that down the side of the car ?
Just a couple black lines haha "racing stripe" maybe? Haha i don't actually know but they were on when i brought it
It’s turning me on🥰🥰
HAHA
Sounds like a truck hahaha
Did you get a resonator or no resonator?
Coffs Aviation HD Hi, yes I did get the resonator, I show it in the video. Thanks
@@Lindz37 cheers mate
Is it a must for a backbox
Hi, I’m not sure what you mean?
Is exhaust with the no muffler (loud)?
Hey, Nah not too bad at all, for sure louder than stock system of corse but i don't find it obnoxiously loud or annoying
hey mate dont expect you to reply to this. Im up to the part where im taking the down pipe off the turbo. How in the hell did you manage to fit your hands in the engine bay and get enough leverage to get the nuts off.
Hey haha yea this is the million dollar question, go up from underneath with a swivel and few extensions and a SIX side socket not a 12 point. Only other advice is with all your being do not round them off. Soak it in crc “penetr8” will help too or something similar. Other than that mate you just have to give it your best effort. Good luck! Let me know how u get on.
@@Lindz37 managed to get one nut undon so far…. 1/3 of the way there
@@TrendyTrims. nice!! Fingers crossed the rest goes smoothly!
@@Lindz37 hey mate, i drove the car with only the downpipe around the block but thrashed it. do you reckon leaving just the down pipe on for a bit while i get the nuts off will be bad for the car or am i being too cautious
@@TrendyTrims. good question Uhm I’m not sure, I don’t reckon its great but I believe if you’ve got the down pipe on it should be ok, but I’d try get it all together as soon as you can just to be safe. Without the down pipe I believe u have the potential to warp the valves, so yea I’m not sure, I wouldn’t run for long without the rest installed
Hey mate, I rounded the final nut on the Downpipe when the turbo is. Any tips of how to get this off? Cheers
Nah sorry man not sure what you'd do at that point. Only thing to try would be a special nut remover socket but heat the hell out of it first and make sure theres plenty on wd40 etc on there too.
Is this a non turbo hilux?
cam simpson no this is a 3l turbo diesel, I talk about the turbo heaps in this video haha
Hey mate what's the brand and model exhaust?
It’s by PPD and it’s 3 inch stainless steel
@@joshuaedwards1721 cheers mate
@@Outbackvintagevehicles no worries, I got mine from 4x4oc.com for $599 but if you want a high flow catalytic converter with it it’s an extra $100
@@joshuaedwards1721 thats not to bad actually I will definitely consider it.
Where did you get this from?
Just from the ppd website, in the description. Cheers
@@Lindz37 legend.
Hey mate what did it cost you just curious and what exhaust exactly
Hey, the link to where i got it is in the description but i paid about $600NZD plus shipping. Thanks
Hi there! How is your fuel consumption before and after?
Hey, I haven’t done an actual test, but haven’t noticed a change if any. Cheers
No muffler?
Hey, nah not as such, just has the “resonator”
Is this the cat version or not cat?
Yep it has the “high flow cat”
In terms of back pressure is the new exhaust healthy for the engine
Also performance wise is there any improvement?
Im not 100% sure on the back pressure deal being "healthy" or not for the engine. As for the performance, it alone didn't make a noticeable difference apart from the sound. In saying that though, when i got it tunned they were able to get a bit more power with the new exhaust.
@@Lindz37 thanks m8
Hey man did you get a Catalytic Converter??
MrJakeJimmy hey, yea I did cause legally here we have to have them I’m pretty sure, it’s a high flow cat and I got the resonator too. Cheers
@@Lindz37 Just ordered one, can't wait. hopefully not to hard to put together myself.
MrJakeJimmy you’ll be right, let me know how you get on. Cheers
@@Lindz37 Just got it, fuck it sounds mean now. Sounds like a different truck haha love it.
Did u need to get an ecu remap?
Hi,
No i didn't get "need" to get a remap done, in saying that though i am planning to get it dyno tunned soon to boost power a bit.
Won't this drop the back pressure to much ? I've heard the turbo needs some resistence in the exhaust for propper back pressure.
anybody have thoughts on this?
can you do the exsaust safely without a tune ?
Everything you've heard about back pressure is most likely from someone trying to sound intelligent without knowing what they're talking 😂😂
You want absolutely no back pressure in any turbocharged setups. The bigger is always better in turbocharging.
Yes, exhaust is fine without a tune in most diesel applications, but with turbo cars, especially the newer ones that have their wastegates electronically controlled (Newer 5.5 twin turbo AMGs and the likes) will throw a check engine light; in which case you'll need a tune.
Is it worth getting it with a resonator?
James Ball I like the sound of it but it’s just personal preference. Cheers
@@Lindz37 okay cheers mate I wanna get one for my lux just not sure what I want haha
James Ball Well if it helps, I really do love my set up still I wouldn’t change anything. Got a heavy duty clutch going in and a tune in the next month, I’ll make an update video about all that too.
@@Lindz37 that would be awesome mate I’d watch that. Yeah I’m thinking of having a cat but no resonator see how that goes 🤞🏻
@@Lindz37 is it quite loud in the cabin btw?
You waste too much time, people want to see results s of the fitting
This is an install video... If you want to see the result then skip to the end or watch a different video.
Summary of the work being done is lacking because a lot of time was wasted in explaining of which if it were for me I would have done that job in less than 30 minutes.
Good on ya
