A small but very touching detail you missed about Mako and Greg. Basically Mako was the reason Greg got into acting, not only that but he talked about how when he was kid he would practice based off Mako's voice off of records. He talked about all of this when he went to a comic convention where he cosplayed as Uncle Iroh, the first character he took over for after Mako's sad passing. He honored him so much that, though a lot of fans asked him to, he would even never sing Leaves from the Vine bc "that was Mako's". He really looked up to the man and was beyond honored to be able to carry on his legacy, in some way.
Another great plus for the show is that the voice behind Jack also voiced Hermes Conrad in Futurama. There was also a crossover episode of Samurai Jack with Duck Dodgers, where Dodgers has a dream where he's a Samurai called Samurai Quack, and his opponent is a being that looks like Aku, and even voiced by the same original actor.

The way I'd interpret this is that the dark void was an embodiment of pure destruction. It was not a thing of evil but simply of natural destruction. The poison arrow somehow fused with the void and created an entity of pure evil. What I really want to know is: "What the heck was that poison made of?!"
evil is a human concept I guess, aku or the primordial malevolence didn't really see themselves as evil, but they are very much evil in the eyes of good natured beings. and I feel like the arrow gave aku his personality and his flaws, the primordial malevolence was more animalistic. So I feel like the arrow did work in the end by making aku overconfident and egotistical.
aku as a black blob in space, no real 'character' to speak of yet. aku when given form, intelect or finally awakens - the embodiment of pure evil; his first action: point at the emperor who freed him and say "YOU! THAANK YOU!"
Aku is the embodiment of god level chaotic evil. This is only amplified with aku being born not only from the deaths and evil of our world but being a piece of a elder horror( a being who existed before the creation of our universe)
You know growing up this show was the first cartoon that I seen the animation team drawing blood it wasn't a splatter of blood but it made the tone so much heavier for a 9 or 10 year old me and Aku felt like a Japanese version of satan
Aku isn't pure evil. He's made of evil. That's something else entirely. A villain is pure evil if he chooses to be evil. Aku can't be anything but evil. He couldn't do good even if he tried, which he wouldn't try because he enjoys himself too much.
I still think the ending of Samurai Jack should have been Jack finding solice in the characters he has saved, rather than the past that he lost. The ending he received seems hollow, since he lost his "soulmate", and people he has saved, have no clue that he has sacrificed a "lifetime" for them. No clue=no appreciation. Empty ending. Aku indirectly gave Jack more than he took away.
His goal was to save the past from the terrors of Aku. It wasn't just about the past he lost, but all the pasts lost to Aku's evil. I believe he felt like it would be better for him to save the past, so that none of the friends he saved/made had to live the terrible lives they did under Aku. I think the ending is neither happy nor sad, but hopeful. He might have lost the friends he saved and the woman he fell in love with because of the future he undid, but now he has the opportunity to make a better future, one without the evil of Aku.
Also both the original voice of aku and the voice of the one who replaced him Also did the voice of avatar the last airbender and legend of korra character prince zuko uncle iroh
this show gives me hope that one day fans of the previous generation will become successful enough adults to revive old cancelled series (symbiotic titan)
