Danced this at our wedding close to 40 years ago. It was the dance everybody in San Antonio had to have at every prom, wedding and quiceanera! God Bless Texas.
You betcha! 40 years ago, eh? You must be around my age: I grew up in San Antonio, and since have lived in North, South, East and West Texas…all God’s country! I graduated from Highlands H.S.: so many happy memories, including going out to the Golden Stallion after 18 and dancing…this was ALWAYS something we did! I adopted several kids: my daughter is from Korea and we always try to do Korean cultural things, but this Fall, thinking about taking her to WurstFest and Gruene Hall to show her some of MY culture! ❤ God bless Texas!!! OMG, can that boy play the fiddle!! I was going thru UA-cam this morning when I came across this video. I thought I’d listen to it. WOW, it blew me away. That kid that wears the cowboy hat, please don’t let anything happen to him! He’s awesome!!! 😃😃😃😃

I know I've listened to this before, but WOW, what a rendition of this tune! Can't believe this is on here for 12 yrs & over 1.1 million views but only 317 comments. Guess they left everyone speechless!!
I remember seeing a bunch of country-folk dancing “Cotton-Eye Joe” at Billy Bob’s in Fort Worth, Texas. Pretty awesome to see. Since then, I have liked this song, but only performed by these guys.
anyone playing a music instrument gets my ultimate respect..I can only dance to any genre ..but to have an eye/ear for entertainment is mega awesome!! ..moi
I won tickets off AM radio to see these guys live at the Mule Lip Saloon in Colton, CA back in the 80s! Talk about kicking-A! The dance floor was a former JCPenny's or something. 3-D line dancing, surround sound, barber chair tip over shots, lines waiting for men's and women's bathrooms. It had it all!
YEEEEHAAAAAW!!! Hell, yeah, that's what I'm talkin' about! That's one of my favorite bluegrass/traditional country songs. I'm a Sand Mountain Alabama native and was raised up listening to songs like that (in addition to The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Deep Purple, and The Who, of course). Every time I hear bluegrass, I get chills and goosebumps because it's the music of my people, most of whom came from Scotland, Ireland, and northern England. Celtic music evolved into bluegrass over here, so to say there's a similarity is being redundant. Bluegrass IS Celtic music, and I'm proud to be a Celt.
an old friend of mine, MaryannBishop, we worked at UT together , RIP, she so loved this group, went to see them all the time to dance , think she knew them, go austin.
@@dorothadavis3117 A fiddle (violin) can indeed be picked, plucked, or strummed, but most often it is bowed. A guitar can be picked, hammered, plucked, pulled off, beat, or strummed.
There ya go! I'm from AZ, and we got a sayin' here, "Texans love three things: Backyard barbeques, high-school football, and COTTON-EYED JOE" (especially when there's a fiddle in the band)!
Oh my god massive amounts of credits on the fiddle and overall jammin toe stompin enjoyment of this tune. Man the only thing I wanted was more of the lyics. But a very nicely done cover. Thank you.
This used to be the one and only official song that you would hear at SA Spurs games, back in the day. Can't really say much for the crap they play at the games now.
Because of the Tiktok dance or whatever of Cotton Eyed Joe, I searched for the original and some covers, and I stumbled upon this. I can say that TikTok doesn't do justice to this masterpiece. I've been jamming to it for a week now. It's just so fun to listen to and play. This is a real gem in the modern age.
me 2 my daddy was a entertainer & played all string instruments most of all THE FIDDLE cuz he said a side man can always find a gig with the fiddle :) IMA IRISH 2 :) :) :) my dad had duel citizenship :) wish I did lol time to get outta dodge & fascism-hava a good 1 george

That is cool as hell you danced to that at your wedding!!! And Happy 40th anniversary!!!
Excellent! Congrats! (It also played at every one of my Ft Worth high school dances and all the church youth dances when i was a teen).

An 800 year old Scottish song that's had the lyrics changed several times and reintroduced with a modified slip-jig back in the 1970s. Love it.
What's the name of the original Scottish song?
😳 *800* years old??
Cotten eyed Joe is slang for clamida
What is the name of the og song?
@@coreykoepselIts actually slang for a cataract.
Love Asleep At The Wheel! Such an immensely talented group of musicians, and those 3-4-5-part harmonies are where it's at!
I saw them in concert in the mid-80's along with Bugs Henderson and the Shuffle Kings.
I could listen to Jason Roberts play fiddle all day every day.
Devil look out
+Sam Marcum ...okay, But no work done? LOL...mos60
Yessir. Brother Bob Wills is proud.
From South Central Texas and Cotton yet Joe is always paid at wedding's. I love how to dance to this back in the 70's. Bullshit!!
through the decades with all the different lineup changes, amazing musicianship has been a constant.
There's a big difference between people who play music and musicians.
The current crop of pop-tarts play music. Asleep at the Wheel are MUSICIANS!
You got that right!!!
'Al Dean and The All Stars' were the first ones who I heard it by. I have a 45 record. They were great.
