    Remember B Wills version of this? I've lived in "Cow Town" (Ft Worth, Tx) 81 years.

      I was just listening to it, but I like this one better for the voice pitch. I grew up in Ft. Worth and lived across the street from Trail Drivers' Park when I was in the first grade. It was 1/4 mile from the stockyards.
      My father worked in Panther City area just below the courthouse bluff at American Cyanamid for a couple of decades.
      As far as Bob Wills, he was the real deal.

    I'm pretty sure that Bob Wills would give Jason Roberts a few hollers.

    Ray sure does dwarf those guitars. Saw him up close after a live show, and you don't realize how big he is until then.
    But he's a real-deal guitar picker! It's not just a prop.

    The first Verse is about how Cowtown became Cowtown instead of Dallas. The Story is actually two fold. First, they built the Railroad thru Dallas but they ran out of Money about half way to FtWorth and the Citzens of FtWorth knew the importance of the Railroad so they used their own Money and the Citizens provided their OWN Labor and finished it and FtWorth became the furthest West shipping point for some time in TEXAS. The REAL REASON that FtWorth became the main shipping point for Cattle headed North on Cattle Drives is because Denton County (Next County North of Dallas and FtWorth) had a VERY CORRUPT Sherriff's Office and they were WELL KNOWN for hanging Cowboys for rustling Cattle they didnt rustle and stealing Horses they didnt Steal. As a result you couldn't pay a Cowboy enough Money to drive Cattle out of Dallas so they.moved the Stockyards West to FtWorth and bypassed Denton County. I'm 7th Generation TEXAS and I've lived outside FtWorth and Dallas for 51 years and I can assure you that Denton County TEXAS is, to this day, STILL CORRUPT as Hell itself. 😉🤠 The song Big Balls in Cowtown is about the Annual Cattlemens Ball that still happens every year in FtWorth TO THIS DAY🤠
    P.S. Bob Wills is STILL the King 😉🤠

    True Western music. Not Country. Not Country & Western. AATW plays good old Western and Western Swing. And as somebody else said, this is the real deal.

    • @GWGowans
      @GWGowans 10 років тому +4

      Absolutely true, Max. But as he died nearly forty years ago and AATW has been playing about that long too. For me and many others they are also the real deal.

    • @GWGowans
      @GWGowans 10 років тому +3

      too am a fan of AATW although not as long as you've been. You got me there for sure but I wasn't really into any music when I was just starting Grade 1. I guess you missed the part of my statement where I agreed that Bob Wills was the real deal. I am curious though where AATW has been playing their music for over forty years in their own style of western swing, albeit heavily influenced by Bob Wills, when would you consider them to be a real deal in their own right? In 2018 after 45 years? Does it need to wait until 2023 and 50 years?

    • @samking73
      @samking73 10 років тому +2

      GWGowans I agree with. The Wheel IS the real deal for our generation.

    • @Panglos
      @Panglos 9 років тому +2

      Max Cady No, I don't dig. Your argument is akin to saying Dr. J was the real deal, the original, and Michael Jordan and LeBron James weren't and aren't because the latter did and do more than Dr. J did. In effect, you're saying that Bob Wills was more limited than AATW. That makes him better how?
      Every artist and set of artists has its own personality. Should AATW's or anyone else's musical personality should be more like Bob Wills', particularly after so much time has passed, and musical tastes and instrumentation have changed so much?
      Music isn't a competitive sport. There's no such thing as "better than" or "real deal." There's only such purely subjective criteria as "brings me pleasure," "doesn't bring me pleasure" and "I prefer." When you use specious arguments in defense of liking artists less than you might, all you wind up doing is willfully reducing the pleasure you derive from music.
      I've been a fan of AATW for as long as you have. As far as I'm concerned, that and a buck buys me a lottery ticket. If someone else discovers them tomorrow and gets more happiness from that discovery than you or I get from them in the future, they win. And I'm happy for them.

    • @Panglos
      @Panglos 9 років тому +1

      Max Cady "Max Cady doesn't understand the reply" is not the same thing as "the 'retort' fails miserably."
      An education in analogies would help (hint: Kareem wasn't a small forward, Mr. "Obvious Basketball Fan"). Just as Larry Bird said, if you look at the stats, it's pretty obvious who the best player of all time is. He wasn't talking about Kareem. Kareem isn't even close to #1. But of course, to you and your ego, no facts are needed, because your opinion trumps the facts.
      Other people will say what they want, when and wherever they want, irrespective of what your outsized, deformed ego wants. Nobody cares what you want.

      You have to be kidding "cow town" is the north side of Fort Worth, Texas, where the stock yards were maybe still are? Armour & Co. and Swift was there also right across the street from each other. There was a collasseim there where all the big country stars performed. Latter years there was the famous Billy Bob's night club there.. I am told it was the biggest club in the USA. I don't need to look it up. I lived it. I have also been to jacksonville.

    Western Swing became bastard child rock & roll, which was the start of the horseshit music today.
