I live in CT and have had the pleasure of visiting Irene shop in Canterbury. Its like a whisky Wal-Mart. You go in for one thing and you walk out with an entire cart full of stuff you didnt realize you needed 😂 Hence i can only visit once or twice a year.
I am VERY lucky to be able to visit Irene's store on a semi regular basis. I've gotten a number of bottles of hers in my own collection that I've reviewed. I always recommend that people make the trip if you find yourself in the New England area. 🖖😎🥃

cheers from Brazil, the Amburana is a native tree of the northeastern hinterland, its seeds are commercially used in perfumery and the wood is used in carpentry. The bark of the stem has therapeutic properties, scientifically proven against respiratory afflictions, hence it serves as a raw material for the manufacture of herbal medicines.
Ran out of whiskey. Picked up a bottle of Wild Turkey Rare Breed, cask strength (58-ish%). Nice flavor, but kicks like a mule! I'm in Mass. Might have to make a pilgrimage to Irene's shop.
Always a thrill to hear my name in a video. Thanks, lads! Now who do I petition to get our year-naming convention changed from numbers-based-off-of-religion to a more Pratchett-esque, creative system involving things like "the Year of the Fruit Bat"? So instead of this whole "gosh, that was way back in 2018" thing, we can befuddle each other with, "now was that in the Year of the Centipede, or the Year of the Gelatinous Fungus?"
Koval Distillery in Chicago recently released an Amburana finished Rye which is absolutely worth checking out. It also clocks in at 50% ABV, which I’m not complaining about.
I have Amburana and macnut trees. Both are very similar in density and grain to oak. We have access to most exotic woods out here in Hawaii. Let me know if you like samples of stuff.
We age our cachaça in seven different woods. The barrels can be species specific or a mix of different species. One of them is an oak (carvalho) and one manufacturer ages in used bourbon barrels. Here in Southern Brasil, we have a wine region (little known outside of Brasil) wine barrels maybe. I am American mas eu falo português brasileiro e eu moro no Brasil . . . Do you understand . . . I can get you the barrlels that you desire. Reach out if you are serious.
Starlight does Amburana finished bourbon that are distillery only based on how many barrels they can actually get from Brazil each year. I tried some on a barrel thieving tour and it was like drinking a liquid cigar. Not a cigar blend that's meant to pair with a cigar. A cigar blend that tastes like drinking a cigar.
2:37 -- "Cachaka" and "Caraka" hurt my butt cracka LOL. I watched the episode all the way to the end thinking that at some point Daniel will wink and go "just kidding, it's pronounced kah-shah-sah". Nope, all seriousness. A very severious mispromumciation.
Because correct pronunciation is THE most important thing in the world of Whisky… the correct pronunciation of “Cachaça” is “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”. Duh!
Great job guys! Please don't mic Rex's swishing and swallowing. It's the Eggs of the whiskey world. To quote a great man, 3/5 stars, wouldn't change a thing (other than the mouth sounds).
Can’t deal with the cost. For a Canadian and I’m not sure but they where sourcing their juice whiskey. Just saying. Found North is better and better priced. Enjoy.
Gents, for your information CACHAÇA predates rum by almost 200 years. So please do not say that cachaça is a type of rum. In reality it is the opposite.
Glad you both enjoyed it! Cheers!
Brazil's national spiri cachaça is pronounced ka-sha-sa. That final "ç" is pronounced like an s
You mean the radioactive blue stuff in every bar isn't pronounced like "Cure-A-Cow"? 😂
Kahchakka 😎
Thank you for taking this pedantry bullet for the team. I was starting to itch.

I live in CT and went to Irene’s store a few weeks ago for the first time. Amazing experience. She really knows about whiskey.

@KillCoWhiskeyMusings thanks you MB!
You've got me convinced, just bought some amburana cubes to finish my spirits
I use toasted amburana in some of my meads. Adds an almost french toast flavor, which is so unique. Great stuff.
That sounds terrific!

This one sounds delicious... but how do I get my hands on some?
A store near me just did an Amburana cask store pick of an Oak & Eden bourbon and it was phenomenal
I had a nice bottle of WhistlePig 10 that was awesome. Bottle emptied very quickly.
You missed an opportunity to mention that the Bespoke "Brazilian" method resulted in a smoother whiskey. Yes, I am still in middle school.

Thanks for the video 👍🏻
Irene is the best!
If you google Amburana barrels and chips there is a supplier in the US....

They are doing store barrel picks using the amburana. Im out here in Connecticut and have seen a couple around.
All I can say is that Rex gets sexier by the episode. From Mat the heterosexual from Adelaide, South Australia 😅

Whistle Pig is good, but it's easily the most overrated and consequently overpriced rye. Pretty sure. Yep.
Amburana is everywhere. So funny how out of touch you guys consistently prove to be.
