We did this previously, and Weller 12 won the blind tasting between 4 of us.
Working at BT as a tour guide I will tell you it’s all the same barrels. American white oak number 4 char. The difference is placement in the warehouse. Pappys are tasted by the family of van winkles and if they pass that, they then are sent to a panel of experts who have to agree that it is in fact a pappy.
Not gonna lie, that’s really disappointing. Is the mash bill different?
I remember hearing somewhere the mash bill from BT is the same across the board, as well as some BT mash is sent to other distilleries to be distilled using their methods resulting in different profiles and proofs…
Opened my 12 after seeing it shit on online for months. Absolutely love it. Your descriptions of it being a flavor bomb was exactly what I used to describe it
Another amazing video as always!! I love the blinds you two have been doing and it just goes to show when you take personal skewed opinions and marketing influence out of the equation, results can come out very differently sometimes!!🥃🤯👍😂
Totally appreciate blinds like this, as well as your honesty. Keep it up!
Love your videos! Been a fan and happy to see you keep your simplistic yet informative approach as you grow your audience. Next time you're in Nashville, I'll give you a great tour! And I love this! Might do something similar with my bachelor's for my upcoming wedding in October! Not sure I can limit it to Weller.. but your video certainly makes it tempting to try. Keep rocking!
I love the honesty on these videos. Terrific job!
Hey Brewzle, I’m glad you put up this video. I’ve always said that Weller 12 was one of the best Weller products on the market, and after years of hunting and acquiring them, you are right that some of them are just oak bombs. I’m not sure if some of them just weren’t blended correctly or what, but 95% of the bottles I find are like the one you had in the video, delicious.
A store in my town had 2 bottles for $100 each 😳😲 I bought both lol two of the best bottles I've ever owned.
My local store had weller 12 year for 99$ should I buy ?
Lmao, yeah
TJ love the channel. Began getting into my whisky last year or so. So very new. Slowly working through the bourbon and scotches in the UK. Love the channel. The information with the entertainment value you bring. Keep up the good work buddy
The Proof Queen has really elevated the channel. She’s a keeper.
Great video guys keep up the great work
Lmao. Damn TJ. I want to see more blinds. Y’all two do great videos. Now I’m wanting some Weller 12
I don't know anything about Bourbon but watching TJ is relaxing and fun. Great video!
I appreciate that!
Amazing video sir as someone who sure enjoys his Weller i commend you both. I would love to sit in on a blind like that. I've never had the CYPB but i agree on that single barrel. It is a big roll of the dice and just not worth it at the price point. Buyer beware! Keep up the tremendous work and I love seeing your wife and son in your videos, it's so awesome to see a family "business".
When I did the tour at BF they said the weller 12 year is either going to stay a weller 12 or become a Pappy based on when the Pappy family comes in and tastes it.
Reminds me of that spongebob episode...SOILED IT! SOILED IT!🤣
Been waiting for a video like this
Here it is! :)
Great show guys 👏
I tried this at a whiskey bar (very expensive proposition) with some friends. We shared the shots. 12 and FP were regarded as the best. I would say 12 by far is the best value. people complain about “overoaked” but in my experience people often enjoy the oak if they go in blind.
This was amazing. Definitely want more of these and the burbon hunting video make my day
You got it!
This is a da,m good video! Contents getting real professional good job guys
Thank you 🙌
I appreciate that your videos are honest ! There are a few out there that everyone knows they have planned their videos and know what they are drinking before they film . Some are just obvious. Thank you guys for always having an entertaining show.
+1 respect for keeping it real
You trying to run your lawnmower with WFP was in the first video of yours I ever saw lol... Your channel really enhanced my appreciation for more premium spirits and now I wonder what you were thinking that day hahaha.
Most people who have tried the Single Barrel have had a similar reaction to it compared to other Weller products
Great video! Love it!
Thanks so much!
I love when y’all post. Have a great day from Oklahoma!!
Thank you! You too!
What’s funny is I actually like the Special Reserve. Just found a bottle of the Full Proof and a bottle of Antique 107 for a good price relative to where I live so I bought them both. Now I just need to find a bottle of 12 year for under $200 to complete my collection. Thanks for this review. I was looking for a Weller side by side.
I love the Special Reserve!! I buy it EVERY time I see it. It is my everyday. Hate to watch people with an unlimited budget sh¡t on a great bottle. I have a 12 and an Antique but at $500 for 2 bottles I'm gonna sell and buy 15-20 bottles of green label.
My advise to everyone is try before you buy. I made the mistake of hunting these and yes they are cool for a collection but for me the whiskey just ain’t that good. Full proof is the only one I would buy now. Like I say try before you buy or you’ll end up like me with a bunch of stuff you don’t care for.
What ABC stores are you buying from? I’ve yet to see one let you pop a bottle to try before you buy lmao.
@@alanh127 Jay’s liquor which is now Liquor barn has a great tasting bar with excellent prices. We have a few places like that. One of them has all their picks open for their customers to try. I live in bourbon land.
@@alanh127 hit up a bar with a good selection and just pay for a pour!
That's why i don't take advice from "experts". Their palate changes over time and they develop a tolerance to certain aspects of alcohol and develop a palate for other things bc of it. I think of them as they introduce me to brands I never even woukd have heard of and if I see a bottle I'll think about it
I have a bottle of Full Proof. It’s a single barrel store pick. I paid $90. It’s alright. Honestly I’d drink any of the higher proof Makers Mark offerings for a wheated option over it.
New to the channel and love it! Keep 'em coming! All the way from AZ :)
This is an amazing topic
What I appreciate most about Brewzle is that he lives here in Alabama- the same as I do- and so he knows the struggle is real.
The old bottle/label weller 12 was even better. A friend had an unopened bottle and cracked it open recently, it was insanely good. Better than the current bottling. But maybe I need to do them blind 😅
Oh god that made me laugh! Thank you mate!
You shouldn't be too surprised about the single barrel, its literally just a single barrel of weller special reserve, basically the same juice but costs extra secondary. I think you were prettyy spot on with these rankings. CYPB is another one that was just a varying recipe based on online polls but then still same process as SR and bottled at some proof. You ranked em exactly how I do. Nice review!
I love weller and out of the collection of 107, full proof, and 12 year is my faves. Great review
My daughter and I were just at Buffalo Trace, had a nice tour and tasting, although they only had Special Reserve in the gift shop. I did stand next to a pallet of Blanton's though. We also went to New Riff, Boone County, Neely Family and Second Sight.
Brewzle! I believe that you have the best review channel on UA-cam. I respect your pallet. I am new to drinking whiskeys "neat". In the last few months I find that how I drink/sip it changes the flavor/experience that I get. What I mean is that how much I put in my mouth or where I place it on my tongue before I swallow. I haven't seen any videos that explain this phenomenon . Is it just me or is there something to this. If you haven't made a video about this please enlightening me!
12 still at the top. Was a shelf sleeper back in the day.
Great video guys 😁👍👍
Thank you 😁
I’ve been watching y’all for a minute.
Just a helpful tip. Your wife is perfect on camera. Put her in more often, she is stellar. I binge yall and this is probably one of my favorite videos. Definitely crushed this video! I hope this is your best performing video!
Keep on keepin’ on!
I agree I love seeing Jill in the videos. She's awesome on the tastings and has a great whiskey palate.
Something we’ve wanted to do for awhile. Will likely continue.
So i have a coworker that is a big bourbon guy, and whenever we all would go get drinks after work I would slowly start trying new bourbons, it was mainly ones that are out of my price range and I would never normally buy myself...…well for my bday this year he bought me a glass of full proof.....me not knowing what it was or ever heard of it before, i fell in love with it. and ever since then i have unfortunately found out the world of the second market and that my favorite bourbon is a goddamn $400 bottle that I will never buy lmao. I've been hunting for MSRP ever since
Good stuff!
you are a very lucky , blessed man!
Hey man glad you are getting some use out of that CYPB
I love you guys. Your videos are awesome.
Great video, secondary valuations are way high though.
Yeah, I think you had to have had an off bottle of 12 before. I was shocked when you said you didn't like it because the last pour I had of 12 was strikingly good. Like, I've had all the Pappys, all the antique collection, and the pour of 12 I had was freaking memorable! Definitely didn't pick up on a dry bitter oak, so that must be the flaw for off bottles/batches.
Newbie here, but every time I see Brew in Brewzle, I think beer. Then my pea brain goes into confusion because the word brew isn’t correlated with making whiskey. Anyhow, I enjoy your watching you all. I don’t have room to collect anything so I normally buy ones I have seen reviews on to try for myself to expand my horizons in this world. It’s been a fun ride. Thanks for making enjoyable videos. 😊
"weak sauce.... there's nothing special about that one." Turns out to be Weller's Special Reserve. 🤣
I was lucky enough to find a full proof store pick on the shelf at my local total wine for $65. Also have the 12 yr which was a gift from my wife for our anniversary.
Do you think higher proof bourbons taste better as you let them sit? I have a bottle of stagg, and was wondering if I should pour some and let it sit out for a few hours before drinking?
Ive only ever had special reserve .. 2 bottles in my life time of drinking bourban .. Been drinking and getting into it for about a year now .. And out of all the bourbans I try (new bottle every other week) around the 50$ mark the special reserve is by far the best .. so i cant imagine the others
Weller 12 is my absolute favorite from the line. I have to keep a back up bottle of it in my bar at all times. Antique isn’t that special to me. Based on this video my next bottle is Weller Full! Thanks for the content!
existential meltdown commencing lol. Nothing disappointing here at all! Amazing video and so many factors play beyond actual taste. Great job on this video.
I actually really enjoy SR. But I do also have 107. The other bottles are so hard to find
Thanks for the good laughs!
Awesome video. 😂 you have to keep doing these blinds.
great vid!
Your top 3 are my order from previous blinds I've done.
Gre8t episode! Too bad the only one I can find is last place!
W12 just hits that sweet spot for me. 107 is an amazing daily sipper for me... but full proof an 12 just hit harder.
The secondary market prices are for real? That is crazy. how do you sell them on a secondary market? I havnt seen anything on FB market place.
Hey brewzle, I’m new to bourbons and found your channel. Really love the content. Wanted to ask what’s the most you’d pay for each of these bottles?
I've had the special reserve, antique 107, and 12 year so far. The 107 and 12 are both really good, and that's coming from a novice at best bourbon drinker.
I have all these bottles open at home except the single barrel tho it's been a couple years since I have been able to find and buy a 107. paid retail for all
Gotta love it when a bottle surprises that s--- out of you!
TJs ranking is spot on with my taste buds.
All the liquor stores around me only sell the special reserve. Everything else, they only sell wholesale to restaurants and bars. Just picked up a bottle of special reserve today.
I really enjoyed this Blind. I ranked the 12yr right behind Full Proof as well.
Ah, in 5 years, I've only seen Weller S.R. three times in Boston, and it's been priced at $100 every time. However, I flew to TX and saw it in 5 of the 10 stores I went to, and most were $33-$39
DAMN, TJ.....I always took your opinion as gospel! LOL
I bought my first bottle of 107 (old style bottle) for $25, maybe six or seven years ago. Off the shelf. The good old days.
I have yet to find any weller anywhere
Whenever I watch people describe whiskey, they describe it like how I describe candy. But when I taste whiskey it’s the complete opposite
I just called liquor stores around me and a 5th of weller special reserve is $99 and a 5th of blantons is $199 😂😅 hell no man
For what it's worth, I've had a similar experience with the W12. My very first pour was quite delicious. This was at a bar. The bottle I acquired? I actively dislike it. They are definitely blending in some sub par barrels from time to time. Also, the older a bourbon gets, the more eccentric it has the potential to be. Some become absolute stars, and others...well, they messed up. Flavor consistency seems much easier to achieve with younger whiskies such as WSR, OWA or WFP.
I havnt tried the others but I have tried the regular ol special reserve aswell as a few other really good bourbons and the special reserve is one of my favorites (especially in an old fashioned). EH Taylor Small Batch is probably my other favorite but both of them are very hard to find where I am.
Hey! It’s become popular to hate on W12. Don’t feel bad about your results. Personally, it’s my favorite. Proof is not everything. It’s a refined, delicious pour. WFP is second for me, WA207 3rd and SR last. The other 2 bottles have eluded me. I missed a CYPB drop today by 30 minutes, but was happy to score a W12! Cheers!
Jill just the whiskey expert now eh? 😂
i guess so... lol
Only ever had the 107 and Special Reserve here in Ohio. Love the 107 also.
Ill never watch Brewzle again! 🤣 Great video!!! and im only kidding.
I hope you're joking! :)
I’ve only had SR, 107, and 12yr. Personally don’t get the hype behind 107 or 12yr when regular SR is so delicious. 12yr is wonderful but I haven’t seen it in the wild in years and have mostly written it off as unobtainable. Next time I’m lucky enough to get a 107 at retail, I will offer it up to trade for as many bottles of SR as someone will offer.
I found it hilarious the special reserve 4:21 was commented as not anything special 4:42.
I have had the 12 year old. Loved it. Would buy it again if I could find a bottle. I can get the green label one most of the time for a little more than Buffalo Trace. I would lie to try the Full Proof but it is unattainable.
This morning I took a extended tour through the Harry's liquor store inside the Price Chopper on North Oak in Kansas City they have an absolutely astounding selection of bourbon they even have a sale prices on some of the I met the manager and he showed me their barrel pics and I was a little floored at what they had the end result was I got invited to a bourbon tasting after thanksgiving
Your missing dw and wlw I know you have one of those
Also you forgot they can also just be blended differently by the master blender during bottling
That Weller Green (SR) is barely edible for human consumption. It should only be used for Hot Toddy's. It's available in my area for 26.99 almost everywhere
Glad to have a bottle of WFP. It really is delicious
2:00 my first thought was holy shit hes going to drink all that lmao
drinkin bookers 2020-03, love the videos very trustworthy reviews
Great video. But 15 mins in, somebody pls make a guess 😂
I look always agree with you on must thinks, but on this I really agree with you. Wellers 12 is over a better Wellers than the others. I do believe full proof is better now that my palate is changing with the better bourbons I drink. But 12 is up in the top 3 not the bottom 2.
I love all of them especially the william larue weller.
I tried weller 12 a few times and was disappointed, glad to see that I was right
Jill nailed it! Love the 12
Hey brewzle we’re can I find your segment on bourbon hunt in Chicago
I just hope one day I can try these other then the SR. The others are just to far out my price range.
I’ve seen FP once for $500
Can we get a tour of your selection behind you one day?
😂 I’ve never seen any of those on a shelf. Ever.
