Working at BT as a tour guide I will tell you it’s all the same barrels. American white oak number 4 char. The difference is placement in the warehouse. Pappys are tasted by the family of van winkles and if they pass that, they then are sent to a panel of experts who have to agree that it is in fact a pappy.
I remember hearing somewhere the mash bill from BT is the same across the board, as well as some BT mash is sent to other distilleries to be distilled using their methods resulting in different profiles and proofs…
It’s all the same mashbill. They only have 3 mashbill, mash 1 is BT, eht, stagg, eagle rare. Mashbill 2 is higher rye that’s Blantons, rock hill farms, ancient age, the mashbill 3 is wheated that’s weller, pappy. The Rick house placement and time makes the difference. It’s pretty amazing how it changes so much.
Opened my 12 after seeing it shit on online for months. Absolutely love it. Your descriptions of it being a flavor bomb was exactly what I used to describe it
My advise to everyone is try before you buy. I made the mistake of hunting these and yes they are cool for a collection but for me the whiskey just ain’t that good. Full proof is the only one I would buy now. Like I say try before you buy or you’ll end up like me with a bunch of stuff you don’t care for.
@@alanh127 Jay’s liquor which is now Liquor barn has a great tasting bar with excellent prices. We have a few places like that. One of them has all their picks open for their customers to try. I live in bourbon land.
That's why i don't take advice from "experts". Their palate changes over time and they develop a tolerance to certain aspects of alcohol and develop a palate for other things bc of it. I think of them as they introduce me to brands I never even woukd have heard of and if I see a bottle I'll think about it
I have a bottle of Full Proof. It’s a single barrel store pick. I paid $90. It’s alright. Honestly I’d drink any of the higher proof Makers Mark offerings for a wheated option over it.
Hey Brewzle, I’m glad you put up this video. I’ve always said that Weller 12 was one of the best Weller products on the market, and after years of hunting and acquiring them, you are right that some of them are just oak bombs. I’m not sure if some of them just weren’t blended correctly or what, but 95% of the bottles I find are like the one you had in the video, delicious.
When I did the tour at BF they said the weller 12 year is either going to stay a weller 12 or become a Pappy based on when the Pappy family comes in and tastes it.
I tried this at a whiskey bar (very expensive proposition) with some friends. We shared the shots. 12 and FP were regarded as the best. I would say 12 by far is the best value. people complain about “overoaked” but in my experience people often enjoy the oak if they go in blind.
I appreciate that your videos are honest ! There are a few out there that everyone knows they have planned their videos and know what they are drinking before they film . Some are just obvious. Thank you guys for always having an entertaining show.
Another amazing video as always!! I love the blinds you two have been doing and it just goes to show when you take personal skewed opinions and marketing influence out of the equation, results can come out very differently sometimes!!🥃🤯👍😂
I had a 12 year last Christmas as my first bourbon from Weller while still pretty early in the game. I loved it and drank it before the end of the holidays. I wish I had another! I love that you always speak the way you feel and in this video you happened to like a whiskey you didn’t think you liked but were honest about it. Love the videos!
So i have a coworker that is a big bourbon guy, and whenever we all would go get drinks after work I would slowly start trying new bourbons, it was mainly ones that are out of my price range and I would never normally buy myself...…well for my bday this year he bought me a glass of full proof.....me not knowing what it was or ever heard of it before, i fell in love with it. and ever since then i have unfortunately found out the world of the second market and that my favorite bourbon is a goddamn $400 bottle that I will never buy lmao. I've been hunting for MSRP ever since
What’s funny is I actually like the Special Reserve. Just found a bottle of the Full Proof and a bottle of Antique 107 for a good price relative to where I live so I bought them both. Now I just need to find a bottle of 12 year for under $200 to complete my collection. Thanks for this review. I was looking for a Weller side by side.
I love the Special Reserve!! I buy it EVERY time I see it. It is my everyday. Hate to watch people with an unlimited budget sh¡t on a great bottle. I have a 12 and an Antique but at $500 for 2 bottles I'm gonna sell and buy 15-20 bottles of green label.
Amazing video sir as someone who sure enjoys his Weller i commend you both. I would love to sit in on a blind like that. I've never had the CYPB but i agree on that single barrel. It is a big roll of the dice and just not worth it at the price point. Buyer beware! Keep up the tremendous work and I love seeing your wife and son in your videos, it's so awesome to see a family "business".
TJ love the channel. Began getting into my whisky last year or so. So very new. Slowly working through the bourbon and scotches in the UK. Love the channel. The information with the entertainment value you bring. Keep up the good work buddy
I’ve been watching y’all for a minute. Just a helpful tip. Your wife is perfect on camera. Put her in more often, she is stellar. I binge yall and this is probably one of my favorite videos. Definitely crushed this video! I hope this is your best performing video! Keep on keepin’ on!
You shouldn't be too surprised about the single barrel, its literally just a single barrel of weller special reserve, basically the same juice but costs extra secondary. I think you were prettyy spot on with these rankings. CYPB is another one that was just a varying recipe based on online polls but then still same process as SR and bottled at some proof. You ranked em exactly how I do. Nice review!
Love your videos! Been a fan and happy to see you keep your simplistic yet informative approach as you grow your audience. Next time you're in Nashville, I'll give you a great tour! And I love this! Might do something similar with my bachelor's for my upcoming wedding in October! Not sure I can limit it to Weller.. but your video certainly makes it tempting to try. Keep rocking!
This is then greatest video you have ever done! LOL!!! I have watched a TON of your content. These types are by far the best. Distilleries and barrel tastings are close second and your hunting vids are a very good 3rd. Keep them coming!
Brewzle! I believe that you have the best review channel on UA-cam. I respect your pallet. I am new to drinking whiskeys "neat". In the last few months I find that how I drink/sip it changes the flavor/experience that I get. What I mean is that how much I put in my mouth or where I place it on my tongue before I swallow. I haven't seen any videos that explain this phenomenon . Is it just me or is there something to this. If you haven't made a video about this please enlightening me!
Newbie here, but every time I see Brew in Brewzle, I think beer. Then my pea brain goes into confusion because the word brew isn’t correlated with making whiskey. Anyhow, I enjoy your watching you all. I don’t have room to collect anything so I normally buy ones I have seen reviews on to try for myself to expand my horizons in this world. It’s been a fun ride. Thanks for making enjoyable videos. 😊
The old bottle/label weller 12 was even better. A friend had an unopened bottle and cracked it open recently, it was insanely good. Better than the current bottling. But maybe I need to do them blind 😅
Ive only ever had special reserve .. 2 bottles in my life time of drinking bourban .. Been drinking and getting into it for about a year now .. And out of all the bourbans I try (new bottle every other week) around the 50$ mark the special reserve is by far the best .. so i cant imagine the others
Hey! It’s become popular to hate on W12. Don’t feel bad about your results. Personally, it’s my favorite. Proof is not everything. It’s a refined, delicious pour. WFP is second for me, WA207 3rd and SR last. The other 2 bottles have eluded me. I missed a CYPB drop today by 30 minutes, but was happy to score a W12! Cheers!
My daughter and I were just at Buffalo Trace, had a nice tour and tasting, although they only had Special Reserve in the gift shop. I did stand next to a pallet of Blanton's though. We also went to New Riff, Boone County, Neely Family and Second Sight.
I look always agree with you on must thinks, but on this I really agree with you. Wellers 12 is over a better Wellers than the others. I do believe full proof is better now that my palate is changing with the better bourbons I drink. But 12 is up in the top 3 not the bottom 2.
Weller 12 is my absolute favorite from the line. I have to keep a back up bottle of it in my bar at all times. Antique isn’t that special to me. Based on this video my next bottle is Weller Full! Thanks for the content!
Weller 12 is amazing to me. I tell people to give it a chance. Im a high proof guy, but i can really appreciate a low proof high quality bourbon. Once you can appreciate weller 12 than thats when you don't need the punch of high proof to get the flavors.
Ah, in 5 years, I've only seen Weller S.R. three times in Boston, and it's been priced at $100 every time. However, I flew to TX and saw it in 5 of the 10 stores I went to, and most were $33-$39
Just got my first bottle of Special Reserve at $30 the other day, hoping to snag more as I'm able to. Luckily my local grocer gets allocations of it at MSRP.
on secondary market a William Larue Weller goes for around $1700 and retail is around $125. What do you consider a reasonable price, not found for a steal price but what is reasonable for that fine Bourbon
existential meltdown commencing lol. Nothing disappointing here at all! Amazing video and so many factors play beyond actual taste. Great job on this video.
I love seeing the MSRP for these bottles then I see them at many of my local stores for 4x msrp. I saw the white label for $400, green for 90, and Antique for 200. Haha
All the liquor stores around me only sell the special reserve. Everything else, they only sell wholesale to restaurants and bars. Just picked up a bottle of special reserve today.
I have had the 12 year old. Loved it. Would buy it again if I could find a bottle. I can get the green label one most of the time for a little more than Buffalo Trace. I would lie to try the Full Proof but it is unattainable.
Yeah, I think you had to have had an off bottle of 12 before. I was shocked when you said you didn't like it because the last pour I had of 12 was strikingly good. Like, I've had all the Pappys, all the antique collection, and the pour of 12 I had was freaking memorable! Definitely didn't pick up on a dry bitter oak, so that must be the flaw for off bottles/batches.
I have all these bottles open at home except the single barrel tho it's been a couple years since I have been able to find and buy a 107. paid retail for all
For what it's worth, I've had a similar experience with the W12. My very first pour was quite delicious. This was at a bar. The bottle I acquired? I actively dislike it. They are definitely blending in some sub par barrels from time to time. Also, the older a bourbon gets, the more eccentric it has the potential to be. Some become absolute stars, and others...well, they messed up. Flavor consistency seems much easier to achieve with younger whiskies such as WSR, OWA or WFP.
I personally prefer the weller special reserve as a good sipper ive been drinking it since the sixties when it was bottom shelf and cheap. Up to 2021 i could go in liquor store and buy case lots at any time. No longer most stores limit limityou to1 or 2 bottles and price has gone up they only come in once a month
One of the reasons I hate watching blinds, people try to guess what they are and rank them on popular opinion, you can tell the ego was alittle hurt ranking 12 so high… I did really like Jill’s take seems like she doesn’t have a dog in the fight and was ranking based off of her preference. Do more blinds with Jill!

We did this previously, and Weller 12 won the blind tasting between 4 of us.
Thats why its the best bang for your buck... but the screw cap lessens its name :(

Whenever I watch people describe whiskey, they describe it like how I describe candy. But when I taste whiskey it’s the complete opposite
I feel this way about all alcohol. It's putrid.

Full proof is good, but 107 has more flavor and less burn. Give me 107 all day
My top two... CYPB is ok... But tastes like a mix of W12 and OWA
On my budget, i will drink the Special Reserve ALL FAKING DAY!!!
I really enjoyed this Blind. I ranked the 12yr right behind Full Proof as well.
Gotta love it when a bottle surprises that s--- out of you!

Great video, secondary valuations are way high though.
I know that putting full proof in the lawn mower is probably the first video I saw of you... so in my opinion... was probably worth it :D
Jill, what you initially perceived as bitterness, and later corrected as dryness, is a result of the tannins in the oak.

Thank you 😁
I just hope one day I can try these other then the SR. The others are just to far out my price range.

This is a da,m good video! Contents getting real professional good job guys
Thank you 🙌

I’ve only ever had special reserve and antique 106. I like both but I’d only ever pay retail for them.
New to the channel and love it! Keep 'em coming! All the way from AZ :)
Your top 3 are my order from previous blinds I've done.
This is why blinding is so important. People have preconceived notions based on just the bottle.
I actually really enjoy SR. But I do also have 107. The other bottles are so hard to find
I have all these bottles open at home except the single barrel tho it's been a couple years since I have been able to find and buy a 107. paid retail for all
You (both) sharing your thoughts with each other is influencing the others choices/thoughts. JMO...
Picking up a Weller 12 this week.
Just a suggestion , Less volume on the background music
Thanks for the good laughs!
Now, Weller 12 vs Van Winkle Special Reserve 12 year blind and see which one is better 👀
