    Epic for sure, especially the wild camp and lions in camp, but what a privilege!
    Did the Mabua to Nossop a few years ago towing a Conqueror Companion with my 4.5EFI 105 Land Cruiser. Low enough tyre pressures and did not once got stuck, unlike my traveling companions.
    Looking forward to the next episodes.
    And I truly miss Kgalagadi, it has been too long.

      Thanks, we couldn't agree more. Absolute privilege! And also about the tire pressures, very important!

      Off hand, do you remember what the pressures you ran over the dunes?

      Howzit, the Cruiser had a packing system in the back, however I was alone in the car, thus not heavily loaded.
      If I recall max 1bar in front and because I was towing 1.2 at the back.
      I would normally also check how the tyres bulge, this give an indication if under or still over pressure.
      Another important factor is brand af tyre, sidewall thickness and strength impacts on deflation.
      I had 285/75/16 Cooper ST Maxx on. The have fairly strong casings.
      Also, I normally run the caravan pressures the same as the rear tyres on tow vehicle.

    The only way over those dunes towing is nice flat tires. We’ve done it a few times with a companion following us and always get stuck on the first dune, deflate, then enjoy.
    Great episode. Will be enjoying the rest!

    I traveled Mabua - Nosob & Nosob - Kaa in March this year. The sand was still hard packed from the wet season but the grass was long. Prayed hard the night before as I was alone and digging in the sand with no one watching my back was a frightening thought 🤣🤣🤣

    Another great video. What Tyre pressure where you running we would drop to 1 bar in the soft sand.

    • @EpicAfrica
      @EpicAfrica  2 роки тому

      We did drop to about 1 Bar eventually! Underestimated it initially lol

    Hi Guys. We tow a Conqueror with our Discovery 4. On the 4x4Forum, the advice I read was that it is not easy to tow the dune roads in and out of Mabua. In fact, I was under the impression that you were not allowed to tow on that road. Is that not the case?

    • @EdwardBath
      @EdwardBath 3 роки тому +1

      Hey! You are certainly allowed to tow, the key is lower tyre pressures, around 1 bar for the steep dunes. 1.5 didn’t cut it but the second we let them down to 1.0 bar it was easy. The common misconception is that the trailers are the reason the dunes are tough but it’s people with 4x2 vehicles cutting up the dunes and attempting the road which is strictly 4x4. The Disco 4 and Conqueror will do it easily 🙌

      Like Ed said, drop the tyres down to 1.0 bar as soon as you hit the sand. If you have enough profile you can go down to 0.6bar. Lots of people drive this road towing trailers with no problem because they follow that simple rule. Learn your cars 4x4 system, that is the 2nd common mistake. Then, please whatever you do, stick to the main track. People struggling and veering out of the track may cause them to review their policy on towing on this track. Across the Kgalagadi the rule is never push new tracks, and don't follow any tracks that appear alongside the main track, no matter how much you struggle :) Make sure you hit this section early in the morning when the sand is still hard.

      Hi Ed. Watched your episode where you both got stuck. More or less how far out of Nossob are those steep dunes? We using Merc G350d G wagon with Bush Lapa Miskruier for our first trip to Kgalagadi. A bit nervous for the trip Nossob to Mabua as we doing it alone. You reakon we should be ok if we let tires down to 1bar? Will leave at 6:30am when sand is still cool. Did you use low
      Or high range to get over those dunes? Rgds Paul.
