  • Our second episode of the Kgalagadi and Mabuasehube Series, Lions in our Camp!, is here!
    Watch us and @Edward Bath take on the Nossob to Mabuasehube trail, towing our trailers through the thick sand!
    We don't quite make it to the halfway camps along the Boso Trail, and we have to wild camp overnight to avoid driving in the dark. Little did we know, this stop would produce one of the most memorable lion experiences ever!

    Testament to the fact that you should only go to Mabuasehube with a rooftop tent

      This was 40km from Nossob! Closer to Nossob than Mabua! But true, anything other than ground tent is ok!

    Awesome episode. Bought back memories of some of our trips where we stayed Rooiputs then went to Motopi between Nossop and Mabuasehube and then went through to Khiding pan for a few days and then back. Absolutely awesome area and I can’t wait to go back!

    This is incredible. EPIC event. Loved all the episodes. I have booked 3 weeks at Kgalagadi next year. Mabuasehube would be next in target. With kids it would have been a great experience for you. Waiting for the next episode.

    Did you see them coming or you were already sleeping? I wonder if you guys ever have late dinners or braai, or there is specific time for bed

    • @EpicAfrica
      @EpicAfrica  2 роки тому

      No we didn't see them coming we were already in bed and sleeping, they only pulled into camp around 2am. We always get the kids off to bed before dark but we don't have a set time for bed.

  • @mud-dust

    I guess you were lucky you were all in bed already. Not really sure what would have happened if they would have visited you while the kids were still out. Would have they come if there was light, a campfire and a few people? Light did not scare them away but would have kept them away? Did you learn anything from that experience? It must have been an amazing encounter. I'm a bit jealous to be honest. I have had my fare share of hyenas like all of us, I guess, but not lions.... except in Savuti while hunting a buffalo at full speed.

    • @EpicAfrica
      @EpicAfrica  2 роки тому +1

      We think they were around all evening but did not venture into the camp while we were up. We were lucky to have the experience! Animals coming into camp in the wild are a possibility day or night. We try to stay aware and teach our kids the same. Our girls do not wander off, and are in bed when it gets dark for the most part. If they had come we would have jumped in the car or BushLapa. They were not threatening us in anyway, just curious!
