For a now 60 (!) year old Adventure motorcycle rider (Honda Africa Twin) who has does perhaps too many annual trips to Namibia, I owe you and the entire 4x4 Offroad Camping community a collective apology. I was that person in the crowd who simply could not fathom why you lot would go to such lengths to tow these creatures behind you out into the great beyond. Well I have been humbled and educated at the same time. You are to be commended for such an in-depth and excellently presented description of what this is and entails. Having in the past month seen over 20 vids produced by you, Ed and 4x4ventures I have had a welcome change of heart and understanding for this amazing lifestyle. Perhaps the time has come to sell the two wheel scoot and trade it all in on something like this. Thank you!!
Best review I have seen on any trailer/caravan! Legend. I have one issue, now I badly want one. Will have to wait till I have won the lotto..... enjoy and thanks for all the great content. I will hopefully in the future join one of these trips.
Awesome video. We are in the early stages of considering this trailer for a trip around Australia. Here it is called the 'Hopper 4'. Especially appreciate sharing the electrical changes you made, and excellent idea having the quick pitch awning on a drawer slide. Best wishes and Happy Camping!
Also tow a Miskruier B810...love our van and heading out for a 3 week trip by the end of the week. Stayed at the same camp at Bonamanzi in Des 2020 very eventful stay with good and bad stories...had a lot of ticks around and killed about 25 at one shot on the BL awning sides one morning and even had to fend off a croc from that same dam
It really is a great and well made van! I know all to well about the croc but they did manage to catch him in the end and move him to another location. Never had ticks there but maybe it was just that time of the year. Enjoy your trip and safe travels 🙌🏻
Thanks very much for watching, I had a Maxi for two years before this and loved it. I think Metalian and Bush Lapa make some of the best camp trailers on the market!
Good video, appreciate it, especially on the add-ons I was so close to finalize my Miskruier order in 2020 but the price at the time of R389k was a serious consideration and after coming back from our Namaqua Eco trail and Westcoast trail with our Challenger Wilderness 310 trailer with TTT, I decided that I'm cancelling the idea of ever sleeping in anything that resembles a canvass tent. The strong West Coast wind was really something to write home about and the extreme weather of late also took me back to the drawing board after losing a great deal of sleep and ended up with something without the fold-out canvass set up, which turned out to be a "new" 2012 Sprite Tourer SP that I modified to sleep up to 5 people inside at a third of the price of a BL. Also, living on the road we needed something that you can "stealth camp" from time to time without the fold-outs that draws too much attention. When doing extreme off-road trails with the Rubicon, we just arrange to leave the caravan somewhere for a day or two. Otherwise we do 90% of the roads less travelled with the caravan. The BL however still remains one of the best "expedition" vehicles next to the Echo Chobe in my opinion but that's all it is...
Please can you give a review on the Raptor as a overland vehicle, looking to buy one and im keen to her what you have to say. Ive also owned the wildtrax 3.2
Thanks for the support 🙌🏻 Yes I definitely will do a short review but the raptor is amazing as an overlander and it’s only real downfall is the sag you get when loading it….but the right coils sort that out!
Very informative video - we learned alot, thank you. Waiting for our BL2 & will implement some of your tips. Where did you get the extra poles for the shower. Those are very quick & easy and folds away short so it can fit in the shower bag.
what were the reasons behind the change of trailer? I’m looking for a camper trailer for the off-road adventures with wife and small son. I reached you reviewing the Metalian Maxi and it was quite convincing (btw great review also that one!!). I’m in love with the conqueror 440 (quite similar to this one actually) but after your review of the Metalian I started to doubt if maybe the maxi would be better option (for lighter and smaller) for off-roading. Now I watch you reviewing this one and again starting to rethink again 🤪 I would appreciate your comparison between both trailers and what made you change. Thanks!! Great video as always!!
Thanks very much for the comment. The main reason we changed to the Miskruier is our family of 4. It just became a bit squashed trying to have a good nights sleep in a RTT so this was the next best thing. I think as a family of 3 it will be easier to make the Maxi work. Metalian make a fantastic trailer to a high standard, one of the best you can buy in SA so I don't think you will go wrong if you buy one. I believe in them so much that even my shop in PMB has become a dealer and sell them. Bush Lapa wont give us a dealership yet because we are to close to another dealer LOL
@@EpicAfrica thanks for your feedback. How different to tow these trialers are? Specially off-road. I like a lot the Maxi, but in Europe, the price difference between the Maxi and the Conqueror 440 (which is similar to the bushlaka one) is very small. Weight and dimensions are not that similar. Thanks !!
There wasnt much difference between the Maxi and the Bush Lapa, they tow much the same. I would just say that with the Maxi you can see a bit more when reversing and have to be less careful on the trail (Just because its smaller)
Brilliant review - learnt so much. Could do with your knowledge (and your shop) up here in Kenya. Looking at a trailer for two of us, with the comforts and equipment level. Just been to inspect some friends Sundowner EVO 2 which is amazing product and only one in Kenya. But this was a very good sales pitch for Bushlappa I have to say.
Thanks for sharing and great review We have the Boskriek with approximately 80,000 kms on her now What I am interested in is where did you get coupler from if you don’t mind sharing with me Regards Peter Field
Great vid! Do you find a difference towing the Bushlapa vs your old Metalian? Clearance, ruggedness etc? What are your main advantages of the BL over the Metalian?
Thanks so much, towing is much the same, they both preform very well. The lapa is just a bit bigger so it blocks out more in the mirrors. The best advantages over the Metalian is that you sleep in it and we (Famaily of 4) all fit in it with space to spare
I didn’t fit one just because I knew I wouldn’t have it long and it required a body cut. The new one I have will definitely get one just as soon as there is a decent one available. I would look at TJM or Safari Snorkels
Fantastic review, thank you very much. Bush Lapa owes you a sales commission for sure. Did you look at the Echo Chobe at all ? If so, what influenced your decision ?
This was a great video Jason! Stayed up way past my bedtime watching it ☺️ really helpful advice on set up and will be my go to vid when ours arrives. Curious to know how your fridge connects to 12v in the van(when on the slider) is it a hella connection or Anderson?
Great Video, I am ordering a BL Kewer and they will be fitting a Quickpitch shower, however, can I ask where one is able to purchase the telescopic poles you used to support the shower, they are small and can fit in shower bag
Thanks so much, it’s from SafariCo 4x4, just reach out to them and see if they have stock. Otherwise there is a lady on the bush lapa facebook group that also makes them
Excellent review. Busy having a look at an upgrade and Miskruier is on the list, After this review, it has moved to the top of the list. I Have a question regarding the Raptor, Have you done any upgrades on the rear suspension? I found that mine drops quite a bit when carrying load. Do you use the factory tow bar?
Hi Louis, thank you for the comment. So on my Raptor I did upgrade the rear springs to a 300kg constant load which was fantastic when fully loaded and towing but when unloaded the rear was a bit high so I would recommend looking at a 200kg spring. I think that would work well. There seems to be good options in Aus but I am waiting on the new Raptor so we didn't bring any in. I did use the factory tow bar but I changed out the dropped tow hitch for one that didnt have the drop, then everything sits nice and level.

Hi Jan, the video goes into great detail so don't judge the setup time by the video. For one not stop I only put out the beds which take a total of 10mins and the full setup take me about 17mins so in the grand scheme of things that isn't bad when you look at the space you have. Remember I have children so being off the ground is important to us and having them in the same "space" as us is also important.
