  • The Hip Shimmy is the most recognized bellydancing move around. Shimmys are an amazing building block played with other hip, arms, and layer upon layer the possibilities are endless. In this Belly dance tutorial, we will cover the basic shimmy with an upward energy. The move breaks down to a Hip lift and Hip drop which we covered in previous tutorials. Watch this video over and over until you feel more comfortable with the move. Then you'll be ready to start mastering the layering and full effect the "Basic Shimmy" can offer. Enjoy!

    Is there a tip to keep your head from moving when you do the shimmy

      Focus on relaxing your stomach muscles and also try sinking lower in your stance. That will absorb more of the motion.

    Hi!! Could you please do a video explaining about your feet? I’ve read from some that your heels should be down but I seem to only be able to do these moves on my toes using my calves big time

    @How to Bellydance, I don't feel my obliques much especially as I move faster and am not doing an "official" hip lift. Also, I lose the rhythmn, so a leg might jerk or one will be stiff. So frustrating.

    Tbh I don't belly dance but sometimes I do some hip shimmies to make my muscles stronger and I'm not too good at it... But thanks for the video! 👍
