    It looks like Parker is going to move on from the college ranks--she seemed to indicate that in her post-race interview after her NCAA 5k win. Alabama's Hilda Olemomoi and Doris Lemngole are likely to be dominant forces in NCAA distance events next year. They were the closest to Valby all season long.

    As a Katelyn Tuohy fan, who watched Katelyn beat Parker at a number of high-level meets, I am in awe of how good Parker has become. She persevered through injury, lost races, and more. She had another gear. She never gave up. She showed the heart of a fighter and has become a true champion. So college dominance this past year, and now Olympic qualification. I think that Valby will surprise quite a few people, by how far she exceeds her previous college performances, when she enters the Olympic trials. She has paced herself well this year and won her races, but hasn't pushed herself to the point of being past her peak for the Olympics or the trials. She has the ability and spirit to do it and she has a long career ahead to collect medals if not this year.

    Will Parker Valby be competing at the Olympics this year?

    • @johnwilson5743
      @johnwilson5743 4 місяці тому +2

      Unlikely. She is no where near fast enough! Not even in Open USA competition! All these claims about NCAA middle/long distance running being top in the Country are mostly ridiculous. ((Sprinting is a different story though!)
      Parker is a brilliant runner and, if she keeps improving, could be near the top world wide in time for the 2028 Olympics. Currently she is about 50 seconds too slow for 5000m. She is too slow as a finisher so would have to move up to 10,000m for those Olympics. Remember, ALL the top 5000m runners are also able to run sub 2 minutes for 800m and sub 3:58 minutes for 1500m. Yes, I think she can keep improving but time will tell.
      Remember, all runners over age 20 are classed as Open Grade runners. There is no such thing as a College/University category, except in USA. Parker should be competing in Open Grade races but the whole College system is focused on just those in the USA. There are faster runners aged the same as NCAA runners, who simply do not go to USA Colleges.

    • @Tigerex966
      @Tigerex966 4 місяці тому +2

      Yes she will be in the trials for 5k and 1ok.
      .she is only .20 seconds needed for the 5k
      And 10 seconds needed for the 10k.
      Both of which she will have no problem doing.
      If she does then she has to come in the top 5 or so in the preliminary races which may be the same.
      Then she would make the Olympic team.
      There’s a rumor Tuohy may be there as well.
      I think she will probably make both but only choose one to race in.
      The pros are much faster so she will be toward the back, unless they do a slow strategy race, then she has a small chance to be finishing somewhere 5-10
      But you have to start somewhere?
      Remember they rarely run much faster than the ncaa in the olympics just look at the 2020 5k 3k and 10k times for proof instead they slow it down use strategy elbows team blocks and timing for a fast last 1k and kick at the end.

      @@Tigerex966 Hi, you don't seem to have a clear understanding of Parker's situation. She is entered for the US Trials in both the 5 and 10 k races. Obviously, at the trials, she must finish in the first 3 to initially make the USA team. BUT, she hasn't yet qualified for either the 5k or 10k Olympic standards. So, it will depend on how the US Athletic governing body view her situation. Previously, other runners who finish the trials in top 3 but hadn't made the qualifying times, have not been selected. So, unless you have special knowledge on how they would treat Parker (providing she finishes top 3 at trials) well...???
      Also, in the 5 k there are 5 Americans entered who have much faster times than Parker, so she is ranked number 6. Making it very difficult to qualify.
      Yes, she is very talented and I hope she runs well. Sadly she will probably have to lead as she is doesn't have a strong finish against these much faster runners and they will just sit on her.
      Personally, I think 2024 is too soon and she will be better in 2028. The Open Grade runners at the Olympics are much, much faster with a group all running under 14.15

When Jordan's Bulls won their first NBA championship (1991) Bird and Magic were at the end of their careers, yes, but MJ had been dominating the league for years. Boston hadn't won a championship since '86 and the Lakers hadn't since '88. The best team was actually the fantastic Detroit Pistons before the Chicago Bulls overtook them, and the rest is history.
