Love how Dave is digging Steve's solo. Too many band leaders or headliners seem to merely tolerate drum solos even in jazz. They don't seem to listen....just waiting for when they have to step back in. Much respect for Dave.
What a performance! Steve is in the last stages of his musical career, but never ceases to amaze me. He is on fire in this solo and moves past his usual Gadd'isms. Impressive.
Steve is a good guy! A real drummers drummer and a real musician! Steve when I was 7 years old I played in a Fife and Drum Corp. Its cool we both share that background. It was you who inspired me to move to LA and pursue my dream. Although I was ultimately unsuccessful in that thanks for inspiring me to go out there and do it. I never thought I would have played some of the places in Hollywood I did unless you would have inspired me. Thank you!
Fantastic Steve Gadd!!! AND all the players include David Sanborn GOSH he's still good looking ! The piano tone sounds so pretty! But , again my phone? Doesn't play bass! IT'S muted! Why? Can anybody tell me!?
OK kids, here's how it went down. Elvin Jones was really powerful and emotive on the drums, but his technique was sloppy. Then Tony Williams came along and was equally as emotional with his playing, but cleaned up the technique considerably. Finally, Gadd came along and played with the same fire in his blood as them, but did it with impeccable technique. And also added a little bit of funk for good measure!
Dude wtf you're talking about? Gadd can't even play stuff like Fred,Eye Of The Hurricane,Three Card Molly or even any of the Coltrane stuff,he looks like he's dying in the fast parts of the solo, you can even look back at his 70s stuff and it still the same thing
Well he's no spring chicken. But he will be raising the bar as long ad he can pick up a pair of sticks. When you look up "pocket drummer" it says "see Steve Gadd".
Sanborn looks young for 73. Gadd looked older in 1993. I'm thinking Steve had an eye lift. He used to have loose skin around his eyes. Now the skin around his eyes is nice and tight.
Had Enough YOUR comment made me giggle lol. After you listen to them & you chose to comment on his eyes....lol.Anyways your comment was refreshing! Lol.
Steve Gadd has played on more songs you have heard that you don't know he's the drummer on than just about any drummer.... I love Jazz solos as part of a song.... pure let me solo for 5 minutes is boring... but jazz solos in a song context are awesome...
I THINK STEVE GADD RECEIVED HIS VALIDATION WHEN BUDDY RICH SAID IN AN INTERVIEW THAT STEVE GADD WAS THE ONLY DRUMMER IN MODERN MUSIC THAT "HAD ANY CLASS BEHIND A SET OF DRUMS". IF BUDDY RICH SAID THAT ABOUT ME...I WOULD RETIRE A VERY HAPPY AND PROBABLY ARROGANT MUSICIAN.
Stacey Meadows YAY! I get easily exited to get responses& feed backs from drummers & drum/ drummers fans! Especially people have the same taste I guess! Lol.Way back in 80's there was no Harvey Mason's fan I knew of in Tokyo where I originally came from. But he has become a legendary drummer & music/ jazz fans here know him! Of course jazz fans in Japan know him now! When I listen to drummers , there are specific things I'm looking for which not any different from guitarists , vocalists...any instruments...the tones & sounds how they sound& delivered ! How picky they are! Plus styles & techniques & versatility , flexibility & musicality , technicality & of course the dinamics!!! HE HAS THEM ALL ! He was my 1st favorite drummer of a choice! I didn't care about drummers back then , now I really dig it! Lol.But his drumming sounded exceptional to my ears then...still does! I wonder if you play drums...? I don't .Sad.lol.
Please don't expect more than he has done. He is now 73. You mean the same thing is not good? He already created a number of drum set coordination in his 20s~40s. He is still brewing his originality~~~
Yup...He was innovative enough so nowadays he can actually repeat the same things a lot of times without giving a fuck =) like I said, he earned the right to do that pretty well =)
It's called a style... look it up! And if you think it's exactly the same, well, sorry but you need to pay attention. I never heard Gadd repeating *exactly the same thing. He kinda created his own vocabulary, so he might as well use it as much as he wants to... and I mean he did everything from Aja to Crazy Army to playing with some of the greatest cuban musicians so... whatever, if you don't like his solo that's your taste. Ain't nothing wrong with it. Sometimes, I do find it repetitive, but that's because I'm obsessed with Gadd and bingewatch his solos. Remember we go from one solo video to the next, etc, so yeah we can see extreme similarities. But, that's Gadd, and he is somewhat militaristic in his approach, true.

Watching David Sanborn closing his eyes here is a massive lesson in respect for peers. 🙏
Steve God! The whole band are amazing. 👋😍
The band is amazing and Steve is a master musician who is incredibly consistent with with his time and groove.
What a performance!

ガッドさんの若い頃は、鬼のような顔でプレイしていましたが、最近は楽しそうにやっています。ナイスガイ
Like the way he snuck in 50 ways to leaver your lover.
I thought I was the only one who noticed that, LOL! :)
2:36 the beginning of the solo
12 dislikes! Steve gadd the master of emotion on the kit!
Do we have the full video of the song on YT?
GrooveMan!!!
Steve God
cool😄
Gadd is all about the marching band (cadence) way of playing. It's always present in his style.
Comes from being in marching bands in his youth, and the in the Army Jazz band for a few years.
Fantastic Steve Gadd!!! AND all the players include David Sanborn GOSH he's still good looking ! The piano tone sounds so pretty! But , again my phone? Doesn't play bass! IT'S muted! Why? Can anybody tell me!?
what's the drum kits?? amazing!!
Kok keren siiii😍😍
Drummer is good. I predict great things for him!
Yeah. Not bad for a new guy, eh?
Drummer is redundant too!!!!

Such a silly comparison and totally off the mark.
Dudes... This man is what? 73/74 years old????
Yeah, 73 years old!!
In Gadd we trust, the drummer of the drummers!!
Yes. In this solo I was a bit worried for his health
Well he's no spring chicken. But he will be raising the bar as long ad he can pick up a pair of sticks. When you look up "pocket drummer" it says "see Steve Gadd".
"Dudes"
Sanborn looks great for his age...men do have it better with age
Wonder how many ppl are in the audience, like - hey... These guys aren't bad
ソロ終わりのあー!あー!でカウントするのお決まりなんですね^ ^

When miles Davis first heard Gadd, he said .."man, who's that niggah on drums?" Sorry! Not my word, they told him no, he's white , to his amazement
Andy Nelson The same story was said about Bill Evans.

POR QUE O RIBEIRO E O RAMON MORREU?????
Man, HE IS 73 YEARS OLD!
Yeah he still+.

Nice variation...But no drummer plays that composition like Harvey Mason....
Stacey Meadows I LOVE Harvey Mason !
@@spark_6710 Me too..He is very colorful around the drum kit...

@@spark_6710 Of course I do play drums...Lino Reyes who was the drummer for Rick James taught me.....
@@spark_6710 You can see You Tube video by Rick James 69 times...
The cone back in…..
Same old solo but getting quite sloppy.
ABOUT 67...HERE. AGE IS NOTHING.
I love Gadd but for fuck's sake! All his solos are EXACTLY THE SAME! let's be honest guys, awesome drummer but... let's be honest!
If it ain't broke, don't fix it...
Not exactly the same, but he repeats himself a lot, I have to admit. Its his style anyway...he earned it well :-)
Please don't expect more than he has done. He is now 73. You mean the same thing is not good? He already created a number of drum set coordination in his 20s~40s. He is still brewing his originality~~~

NOT BAD,..........NOT BAD,...SO B E U T FUL !
Legendary drummer. Just too bad he has to play this type of music. He can play some epic jazz drumming if he had the right guys with him
I loved him with the james taylor band, but what a waste of talent
Meh
not quite my tempo!
😴
