Steve Gadd i a drummer that always adds that sweet soul to the music he is on. with such a fantastic pocket and musical knowledge to boot its no wonder why he is one of the greatest drummers to ever live
Steve is a composer and a great creator of drum beats. He gets inside the music and draws out talent from a wellspring. He has marked a true epoch in drumming. Gaddyo
Steve takes the same exact nine or 10 licks and patterns, plays them like he means it with 100% heart and soul, and never gets tired or worn out-even after 40 years of that same stuff. He just keeps on truckin’-thank G-d for GADD
Drumming has been proven to release endorphins (aka, feel good brain chemicals) and induce Alpha waves in the brain. This simply means you can feel a greater sense of well-being and happiness after a drum session. 3:03 [Healing Sounds Music Therapy]
Gadd's time is so good, and his articulation on all the grace notes. His subtlety is what kills it, and the dynamics and stops. He sets everything up to tell the story. Nice.
There's nothing wrong with loud and fast. There's a place and time for everything, ya don't have to beat on your wife, to prove to your girlfriend, that you love her, lettem both shine, just maybe not together. Remember, Buddy Rich was loud and fast !
Sometimes simplicity is good but Gadd sounds like a dude who has no creative edge. You can tell he dismissed working with Herbie Hancock. He knew Chick Corea was hot....no thought. Gadd taught us licks. Never taught us how to grow as a musician.
As a pro drummer myself I always remember those before me who I will ALWAYS cherish as mentors, pioneers, and just some bad ass cats! Mr. Gadd, I love you brother and may you continue to be inspiring and influencing the next generations to come.
This is the art and mastery of the few musicians that are and were and will always be great for generations to come. I truly miss Joe Sample Wayne Henderson of The Crusaders . Steve Gadd is a drummer that is another luminary in the pantheon and lineage of excellent percussionists . This solo is example of his mastery on the drums. You go Steve !!!
Gadd is just plain Groove Master. He’s so darn skilled and marchy, yet sooooooo musical. His cymbal selection is so colorful. I have a buddy who has Gadd ears and is also an inspiring drummer & friend. My buddy’s name is dean smith. If I was at laptop I’d share a link. So many great musicians, but S Gadd is special to most every drummer I know. Much respect. Thx for sharing. D. 🤩🎵😊💚
👏 Gadd keeps the greatest groove while he is soloing it's just incredible to watch. I think it makes him, IMHO, the best drum soloist of at least my life time, if not all time.
What an All-Star lineup! Gadd is def an All Time Top Drummer. His rhythm, melody and finesse makes him so great. Joe Sample on the Keys, Ray Parker Jr on the guitar and this band makes jazz music so enjoyable.
AWESOME MR. GADD GREAT OLD SCHOOL STUFF That I kinda learned from my dad’s Jazz ALBUMS! Grandad, DAd, Myself my Brother my kids his kids ALL DRUMMERS. My dad had great jazz ALBUMS STAN KENTON, HERB ALPHERT/ TIJAUNA BRASS, CHASE on and ON.
Awesome, fantastic, their presens - everything. What a combination of highly skilled, experienced, gifted jazz musicians at their very best - outstanding, what can I say ? :-)
The thing that I think makes this so good is that it isn't crazy fast and hard. It's simple but well executed with great feel and timing. I have respect for Steve
The drums have always been part of jazz, because the beat and sound of the drums is so integral to the cultural history of where jazz music originated and evolved from. The drum kit has always held a prominent role in the rhythm section of jazz bands, providing rhythmic drive as well as tonal colors. Extended periods of drumming release endorphins and enkephalins, neurotransmitters that act as natural painkillers and mood enhancers. 4:53 [Dawkes; Jazz Blog Org; Mic com]
It starts at about 108 and guess where it winds up after the solo? That's right, that's right - about 108!! Truly THE Master!! Look Ma, no earbuds and/or click!!!
Great drummers know that their solos are not supposed to be an exercise in speed, prowess, and flash.. solos should always compliment the song's musicality and bring it all back home to the original groove. Nobody does it better than Steve Gadd!
@James Gray Everybody talks about Aja . His work as well with Al Jarreau Kate Bush Barbara Streisand Quincy Jones Chick Corea Steve's band especially that album "Gadditude" Paul Simon Grover Washington I mean the list of the man's performances is extensive . To keep going back to "Aja" as a signpost? Come on.
The Crusaders sound always needed the trombone with the sax. When Wayne Henderson left, their sound went with him. This is a great video even if most of the founders aren't there.
The feel and dynamics in which Gadd projects every note he plays Is, to me, what sets him apart from other revered drummers like Colaiuta, Weckl, Smith & the rest. Steve is just on another level musically...
Steve Gadd i a drummer that always adds that sweet soul to the music he is on. with such a fantastic pocket and musical knowledge to boot its no wonder why he is one of the greatest drummers to ever live
One of the greatest drummers of all time that many people don't know about. He's played with some of the greatest bands and musicians. Gadd is great!
The essence of Gadd. Such a class act. Drummers will be learning from this 100 years from now.
Steve Gadd is one of the few drummers who are able to vividly demonstrate that drums are actually musical instruments.
Steve is a composer and a great creator of drum beats. He gets inside the music and draws out talent from a wellspring. He has marked a true epoch in drumming. Gaddyo
Very well said. Agree
@@cheftekard7165 Steve drummergod Gadd...
@@edoardozampetti4601 He was known as "God," (of percussion) back in the early 1980's. Truestory...
Maintains the groove of the song throughout the solo, not many players do that... most of em just wank away to try and impress someone.

For many years Steve's been one of my favorite drummers and still is. His energy and style of playing is all his own
His playing is Timeless...
Gadd's time is so good, and his articulation on all the grace notes. His subtlety is what kills it, and the dynamics and stops. He sets everything up to tell the story. Nice.
Now, this is what we call music!!!..i love it...all of them are great!!!!....keep the music flowing.....
So much purpose in his playing. I have much respect for Steve Gadd.
my man
FINALLY !!! A great Solo that goes places and doesn't just show how loud or fast You can beat them.
DYNABIKE1 Thank.you
Mr GADD est immense batteur qui sait toucher la sensibilité des gens qui l'écoute jouer...je l'adore!!. ... Merci de nous régaler MONSIEUR GADD!!
FINALLY !!! ?? he has been doing them for decades. He is a master.
There's nothing wrong with loud and fast.
There's a place and time for everything, ya don't have to beat on your wife, to prove to your girlfriend, that you love her, lettem both shine, just maybe not together.
Remember, Buddy Rich was loud and fast !

Straight Nasty!!! That side stick work was in-Feekin’ credible! What a Master!
Perfect example of groove and feel triumphing over pure chops and technicality
照明の当たり方でライドとクラッシュが番傘みたいに見えるの最高やな
Another great example of Steve Gadd's incredible talent is on the title track "Aja" on Steely Dan's album of the same name. Mind-boggling!!
Steve has played with virtually everyone in his storied career. I especially like his stuff with Chick Corea and Eric 'The Man" Clapton....
Absolutely
Quintessential Gadd on this tune and even more so on Aja.
Aja? Jah, Aja! Aja, aha, jah, jah!
Did in two takes

Buddy Rich could play all that with one hand and one foot. No offense, Gadd is great, but I think Buddy had a couple of extra turbo brains...
Well written
Cant go wrong with any of the players from the "Fraternity Of Genius" (aka anyone Steely Dan called up to play). Joe Sample is my favorite pianist.
@@danielmconnolly7 Buddy Rich would play this solo as fast as possible to show off and would ruin the musicality
just painting a beautiful picture with music, like a Steely Dan song.
That cross stick sound on the snare sounds so beautiful!
+Alex Grachek Any advise on how to make it sound so clear and sharp?
Astrid L Thanks, I'll give it a try.
+Fern Coleone You can get it a bit clearer and/or sharper by using die cast hoops instead of triple flanged
Whitebaer Thanks! Very informative!
Astrid L No
Steven Gadd...Probably the best jazz/fusion drummer of the later 1970s...Still able to keep that timing impeccable!
There are millions of drummers around the world, and is Steve Gadd...forever and ever Mr Gadd is unique, is Mr Groove.
Great solo. Phenominal hand and foot sync work!!
no dude. its only shitty mozabique and a few shitty fills

Ho visto ed ascoltato numerosi assoli di batteria di Steve Gadd, ma questo è quello che mi piace più di tutti ,complimenti .
Notable excelente que prolijjo en cada golpe .Un virtuoso de la batería !!! Gracias maestro !!!

Kevin Jackson so great! Check out Chuck E.’s in Love. Talk about pocket! That fill out of the rap/bridge!
I love watching you play .
Whenever I feel sad I listen to a Steve Gadd. Solo...no kidding !

Musically brilliant, technically masterful, and jaw droppingly impressive without being needlessly showy. Gadd is an absolute monster.
just a perfectly expressed opine Mr. Rothman
I also like the bass player on this set. Great groove, tone and touch!
It is Nick Sample the son of Joe Sample
This is great.
Высший пилотаж!!! Стив, это круто 😎
Just damn !!! watched it 3 times straight, and than some :)
Perfect, as usual.

Every time same phrase, every time moving my heart...awesome!
I’ve seen Steve play with Eric Clapton several times but never in a jazz band. He’s a great drummer, can do any kind of music!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

No metronome No click . Just groove. These hip hop and church drummers should be paying attention
Good ones do for sure.

Clearly Steve Gadd is from another planet...…..wow.
Gadd Cowbell. Awww yeah. Cows get themselves on lists to have the honor of Gadd hammering their bell after they pass.
definition of groove
How about that pocket. Oh my. Steve Gadd is so amazing. One of the all time greats.
皆をわくわくさせる力 それが音楽だと思う。
I was expecting more of a reaction from the crowd after that amazing solo....
Crowds are a bit subdued in Jakarta I guess. Plus the video cuts off in the end....
They were stunned!!
When people give thumbs down never say why they didn't like about the performance
Jaw dropping Steve Gadd solo!!
steve gadd just made me stop eating my cereal mid bite due to his solo. God damn he is so articulate with his notation its pure brilliance
Himynamesgod thank you

Wonderful playing. Gadd is so superfine all the time!
Gadd, the master of paradiddles and dinamics.
With a Buddy Rich structure, can't fail. Diffrence being Mr Gadd is playing for the band he's in.
