I love how you brought up the dichotomy of gatekeeping what it means to be punk and how fucking with gatekeepers is, itself, a punk act. Punk is a lot of things, but a stickler for the rules is not one of them
Haha yeah, I hope people don't take that whole bit too seriously, I was just having a giggle. Steampunk doesn't feel very punk to me, but making your own rules and doing whatever you want regardless of what some youtuber thinks is much more punk than being gatekeepy about the term.
@@griz561 Yeah, dude. The punks at my school absolutely HATED Green Day. You could get them going for hours about how they weren't real punk. As for me, I've never been a stickler for genre: if the music sounds good, the music sounds good
@@mutantwormgirlI recomend the "what's up punks" series. It is a guy talking about the various types of media under the punk umbrella. He also talks about if they really are "punk".
You know, given that the zombies are drawn to music, you could probably set up a music player somewhere that zombies can't access, surround the nearby area zombies can access with spike traps, and then just leave until the battery runs out. It'll help draw out any dead in the area and kill them for you. Just an idea for a long-term plan.
@@mutantwormgirl On that subject, my definition of the genre "Punk" has always been "Resistance or revolution against an oppressive government/society", with the prefix to punk being what kind of society that story takes place in. The "World Of Darkness" line of TTRPGs uses "Gothic Punk", and as SpeakerD put it in an introductory video to the setting, "What can a setting where Amazon is run by Draculas be except Gothic? And what can a setting that you can smash their heads in with a golf club be except punk?"
That backpack pocket trick is fantastic. That's something I've been meaning to look up...sometime. Default inventory storage selections would charitably be described as trolling.

Great series. About shift+V menu. If you press "TAB" in it, you will change it from creatures mode to items mode. It has filter search too, so you can stand in the middle of very big room and check all needed items, don't need to manually check every cell with "x".
Changing inventory pocket priorities and settings is something I need to experiment more with. All I've done before is tweak so that certain items are whitelisted for certain boxes or bags, didn't even know there was a priority option until it was brought up in the video.
The mall was getting really cozy! It's fun to settle into one specific place, I have a serious problem with jetting around several gigs of terrain in search of rare stuff. But can't stay put forever. Super enjoying this!
Let me put my 5 cents into this "what punk means" debate. When Cyberpunk was introduced, early works in the ganre were focused on criminal life and "pushing back against the system" usually depicted by those big corporations. However then some works appeared being set in similar universes, but written from the perspective of those corporations. And not in a way Jhonny Mnemonic is, where the protagonist starts as being part of the corporations, but then gets caught in the crossfire and flips into being underground and resisting the system. In all fairness this should've been a new genre and called something like "Cybergothic". But in reality they got shoehorned into also being called cyberpunk, despite being very unpunk. And this caused the definition of "cyberpunk" to be stretched into more generic meaning closer to "cyber-themed". However Cyberpunk sounds way cooler so the word got stuck. And then another genres started appearing. Like ones set in fantasy victoriana times with heavy emphasis on steam power. But "steampunk" also sounds way cooler that "steam-themed" so it also got named this way. And this cemented the use of "something-punk" as equivalent to "something-themed and cool" Language is not rigid. It evolves. And sometimes changes where recognition takes effort.
37:38 "But no guns, the officer must have lost hers when she was killed." Being a punk, it is well known to Mellifera that proper firearm handling and cops don't really mix.
You're right on with the punk thing, but solarpunk is a little bit different as it's used for a movement not some literary genre. I still find it extremely aggravating and Not Punk as it's generally just a bastardization of ecological anarchism, but I have seen it used as a descriptor for ecological activism by people like those who destroyed the Lafarge cement plant back in december. The book is about diy catalytic cracking, a method for refining petroleum. Saying it's "for solarpunks" is a great joke
I never in my life expected to think to myself "Oh shit, the New Worm Girl Dropped" but, here we are. Looking forward to seeing how the Mall Arc concludes.
Finally! I've been waiting for the archery mayhem from the episode #1! Using a bow without a quiver is a chore. Each arrow takes 350+ moves only to be loaded (because apart from quivers the only other containers long enough to accomodate an arrow are rucksack main compartments or a golf bag, not counting "loop of rope") this tanks rate of fire. Also, if I am not mistaken (and I am not sure), the "primitive" bow accessories (dampening kit, arrow rest) can only be installed on primitive bows (wooden/bone ones), so a compound hunting bow requires "modern" accessories. Luckily, "bow dampening kit" is craftable. Unluckily, the recipe is locked behind a manual ("Archery for Kids" or "Zen and the Art of Archery").
Thanks for the heads up about the books, that would make sense. Now that most zombies can't smell you anymore, nighttime archery is waaaay more viable. I still wouldn't want to use a crossbow, but it's pretty easy to just precise shot everything in the darkness.
@@mutantwormgirl Yeah, crossbows sure drew a short stick. Between low damage and long reload times there is really no real reason one would use them apart for "rifles" skill training. Sadly, the "repeating crossbow" just recently has lost its "submachine guns" skill (to "rifles"), so one less appealing factor for crossbows. Oh well…
She already has the best bow in the game. The "compound hunting bow" is both powerful and accurate (is also easy to use), the only thing that can be done is to "tighten limbs" action, turning it into "compound hunting bow (high)" with a whopping 12 stab damage (and the arrows she is using have 1.75 multiplier making actual base damage 21, nearly as strong as a pistol shot). But that is postponed for now until "Archer's Forms" are learned due to STR requirements.
I am loving the amount of worm girl content that's been coming out these past few months! Really love this playthrough that has some cute art displayed from time to time.
It feels like you're becoming more powerful now, I mean before it was all the strength you had , even with many guns, to simply kill a few zombies, but now you go bow-hunting for fun LOL I am very curious to see what this series has in store next

Punk isn't just a movement, it's also an aesthetic. And genre punk is much more on the aesthetic. Solarpunk isn't very punk, but by saying that, an understanding that solar is referring to solar power, and not sailing on the surface of the sun, you can develop in your mind a sense of what that should look like. Sometimes people don't understand the meaning of the words they use, like stealth, but sometimes the meaning of words just change, or words have more than one meaning. Or sometimes longer words and phrases get shortened into the same word and people forget to differentiate what they mean.
I didn't know about the SD cars in laptops trick before watching this series, so thanks! Subbed. Didn't know about the pockets settings either, double thanks.
Absolutely love the "shopping" spree and some window "shopping", combined with naming the non-descript stores of the dead mall. Bring a lot of character, to something otherwise a bit boring, the roleplay goes a long way and is always appreciated. Also, I never thought about using a tablet for recipe storage, that indeed saves a lot of space for books that outlive their practical knowledge. The thumbnail regenerator from classic Resident Evil 4 is a nice touch as well. :D

I knew there were monsters other than zombies, but I kept myself unspoiled as to what so I could be surprised when they started showing up in the playthrough. The hunter easily looks like the most dangerous foe. Faster than you and it's got claws and fangs? Yikes!
I noticed the officer at 37:26 dropped a riot armor suit, which as far as I know is a really strong set of armor against most undead for relatively low encumbrance, even when damaged somewhat - is there a reason to avoid or not bother collecting items of armor like that?

Good time for more Cataclysm. You sound a bit better this video, though. I don't know if that's intentional for the change in your character's mood or if you were feeling under the weather in a previous video.

Love this series. You've been cranking em out pretty quickly lately, which is awesome. Bows are a newfound love of mine. I'm working on a hobo who will be whittling his way into cultivated archery skills. Its not easy without hunter start, or spawning near a hunting supply shop. Gotta find me a duffel, or a golf bag so I can carry arrows... Also RIP Onion rings. Very sad day when O rings get wasted :< Keep being awesome. Can't WAIT for the next episode!
Make yourself a birchbark quiver if you must (preferably the large back-placed one, as leg encumberance is too penalising), but please, do not use bags as ad-hoc quivers: 20 moves per arrow extraction versus 300 moves is 15 times faster!
@@ugib8377 No, I don't. So, I've looked at "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Cataclysm" site/database. Small quiver autolearns at tailoring 3 + survival 1 + archery 1, large one at 4+2+2 of the same skills. Also, both recipes are in the "The Fletcher's Friend" manual.
I think in a game as bleak as this I think the word that keeps player morale is progress, and I’m quite terrible at thinking of goals of my own, and suffer from analysis paralysis. When you’ve made good progress to whatever goal you like, I would be glad to hear just how much this character has improved. 100+ zombie body count besides.
Theres even been a shift in the cyberpunk genre over the last few years, shifting away from its punk roots and turning more to represent a specific kind of retro-future aesthetic. A lot of newer cyberpunk media puts focus on flashy outfits and streetwear to the point that it drowns out a lot of the original intent behind the genre. To some extent its driven by the commodification of everything, corporations stripping cyberpunk of its anticorporate sentiment, but I don't think that has truly succeeded. At least not yet. The genre is still very punk, just with a layer of commodification over it.
There are a lot of divergent types of Cyberpunk. Ghost in the Shell is just gritty crime noir. Stand Alone Complex completely reinvents the genre, getting rid of the retro tech and grime to portray a world conquered by sterile neoliberalism rather than the slum-world chaos that Gibson imagined. The recent push for retro tech seems to me to be an attempt to re-evaluate what the original works were trying to say as the world has changed too much for slick worlds like MGS2 and Human Revolution to seem especially relevant (though they definitely are). It's like one a them visual metaphors.
@@mutantwormgirlwhen your character reaches 8 at cooking, the crafting menu tab now opens with 4 seconds delay on my 10th generation i7... Just kinda realized that this is giving me Stranger Things vibes. I think it might be the mall and your character. Seems like she would fit in with the ST crew. She seems very young at heart even if she is technically older.

I'm no expert on the subject, I've seen like one or two videos on it, but it seems pretty punk to me, if you ignore the solarpunk aesthetic that is. Also means that book might have solar and wind power stuff in there, rather than fashion accessories and themed clothing, not too useful while stuck indoors, but maybe if you make it to that electric car?
Im gonna have to disagree with you when it comes to solarpunk, the idea of taking back industrial spaces for nature is really cool, sure not all the stuff with the label “solarpunk” is actually solarpunk, but there do be a solarpunk

@@mutantwormgirl I have watched Rycon before but struggle to get into his stuff for some reason, his delivery always comes across as a bit 'extra' and I struggle to get interested lol.
@@Jake-im2lv I like Rycon as well, but generally watch him at 150-175% speed. I'm watching this series at normal speed because it is that good.
I just found your channel and love the content and the way you roleplay keep up the great work
Good time for more Cataclysm. You sound a bit better this video, though. I don't know if that's intentional for the change in your character's mood or if you were feeling under the weather in a previous video.
Thanks! I think I'm just getting better at narrating and editing. My voice was not used to sustained use like this when I started the channel, and I've never made videos before.
@@mutantwormgirl Finding your stride in narrating checks out. Glad you're getting more comfortable with it all, you've definitely got some talent for story telling.
@@mutantwormgirl You're doing an excellent job for a 'new to content creating' person. Hats off to ya.
Very sad day when O rings get wasted :<
Keep being awesome.
@@XelexMirror do you remember what skill requirements needed to make them?
@@ugib8377 No, I don't. So, I've looked at "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Cataclysm" site/database. Small quiver autolearns at tailoring 3 + survival 1 + archery 1, large one at 4+2+2 of the same skills. Also, both recipes are in the "The Fletcher's Friend" manual.
@@XelexMirror Nice. Thanks for that. Will come in handy to be able to craft a quiver
A solarpunk must be someone who hotglues a solar panel to their straw hat and roleplays a Floridian. I mean it is called the sunshine state after all.
Was almost waiting for pictures to pop up when you looked at them on the e-ink tablet. :p
Maaan I should play this game but it gives me dwarf fortress vibes as in a few sessions will eat HOURS, not that's a bad thing.
Wau very cool style you have.
I just wanna say RIP Sid Vicious, you was taken too soon, and you deserved better.
Been waiting for this! Thanks for the contents!
im loving this series
F for the Onion Rings. Also, I wonder how punk Mellifera would think becoming a martial arts master and going 'No More Heroes' on Zombies would be
That cake never stood a chance.
Crazy how they made a whole game
just for the series
The archery now reminds me of Unreal World, difficult to pull off, but very worth the trouble. ^_^
Entertaining and educational
Thank you so much! More is on the way soon. 🪱
Vibing to the Kevin mcloud
After 2 full episode we have clean water !
If you have a punk outfit and you didn't make it yourself from a jacket, some shit you found and immaculate diy energy, you don't have a punk outfit
I think we can call agree that Punky Brewster was the beginning of the end fo rthe word punk.
An upload from worm girl is what great days are made of!
Am I mistaken or there might be a book shop in the mall? If you are lucky enough you may find advanced skill books or even martial arts books
so you're telling me that hopepunk is doing crimes hopefully?
that's pretty metal-
9:10 thank you
Theres even been a shift in the cyberpunk genre over the last few years, shifting away from its punk roots and turning more to represent a specific kind of retro-future aesthetic.
This game is so interesting. A lot of cool mechanics. Does it run on a potato?
Yep! It's a little processor-heavy but people play it on their phones even.
@@mutantwormgirlwhen your character reaches 8 at cooking, the crafting menu tab now opens with 4 seconds delay on my 10th generation i7... On the plus side, i think ingredients search radius also increased, and it's what probably causes the lag. Also, sleeping or crafting in the populated area (especially with NPCs in the bubble) was always painful. Not sure whether it is fixed for now...
But since it's turn based, it'll still work if you're patient enough.
Just kinda realized that this is giving me Stranger Things vibes. I think it might be the mall and your character. Seems like she would fit in with the ST crew. She seems very young at heart even if she is technically older.
Somebody said that she's right out of Night of the Comet, which is an 80s movie that has some ST vibes for sure. I kinda picture Trash from Return of the Living Dead, but with a blonde shag.
Who up playin wit dey worm ?
FINALLY someone said it lol
Slavering biter!? I dont think i ever seen this one before :D
When you make a new character could you do a more mutation focused one? There aren’t any good ones on UA-cam and I love your play throughs!

Cake!
Nomnomnomnom
Question! What tileset do you use?
MSXOtto+, it comes with the game.
@@mutantwormgirl thank you!
Hey, I've been loving the content, you may or may not have caused me to start a CDDA run in a mall, I'm not as good at combat as you but I've become an expert in tactical cowardice. Anyway, I feel compelled to mention, and I hope I'm not telling you things that you already know, but solarpunk isn't a genre of fiction like steampunk, it's an anti-establishment, environmentalist, political thing.
As an Irish person, I would argue that roleplaying the British Empire is punk. I personally consider it a vast criminal enterprise 😂
Im gonna have to disagree with you when it comes to solarpunk, the idea of taking back industrial spaces for nature is really cool, sure not all the stuff with the label “solarpunk” is actually solarpunk, but there do be a solarpunk
Hi! If you like cdda you might like Project Zomboid. You can even play with friends.
I wonder if she will ever leave the mall
The Onion Rings 😭
F for this delicious godness
We weren't fast enough. We could have saved them...😫
