I wasn't into guns until I started playing this game. Always more of a sword fan. Now I watch every Brandon Herrera and Garand Thumb video. I really like how complicated these things are without any electronics whatsoever. Pretty much the only machines I can think of which still see innovation without having a computer other than the bicycle.
Mellifera being so anxious about meeting someone that she briefly considers reading a a car buyer’s guide and practicing her social skills in the mirror is incredible. Adore the work you do.
The last encounter in the parking lot is exaclty WHY in CDDA you should always carry a firearm as soon as you find one, they really are a get-out-of-jail free card for situations way beyond your capabilities. And, if your gun still doesn't do the trick, you were probably boned anyways.
I also like compacts simply because your sidearm in Cataclysm tends to be just that: A pistol you can keep on you when you drop your backpack and other gear to fight, so you can draw it quickly and shoot something unexpected you don't want to get close to. So a small, handy compact pistol tends to do the job best.
Cataclysm feels realer than real life, sometimes. Whenever I see the word "massachusets" or "lobster roll" I think "Oh my god is that a freaking cdda reference!?!?"
It's been vetoed by the mods, but if having "comfort items" like pads (women only) or TP and deodorant (everyone) when you rested consumed them and helped your character somehow (staying clean and happy, or at least having those go down slower) I think it would be the ideal middle ground and actually a pretty good mod.
I am extremely happy to have found this channel. Came in on the Fear & Hunger vids and then found CDDA on here? Goddam! This series even taught an old timer like me a couple things. The SD card thing is amazing to learn after half a decade of playing this game. XD
Glad to hear both are working for you. I sometimes wonder if I'm splitting up my content a bit too much, but hey if Ambiguousamphibian can do it, why not me?
I greatly look forward to these! The gun history is fascinating, the gameplay tips are useful, and I really wanna shout out how good the conversation with the NPC was. They can feel really nonsensical and you navigated it really well. Yay flu shot! Getting a cold is soooo annoying, especially if you get unlucky really early on. Baseball bats of all stripes are awesome defensive weapons (find good ground, wait for the enemy to come to you - the knockback will throw them off of rubble or car wrecks and cause them to have to approach for 400 move cost again and again), I racked up about a thousand plus kills in my most recent run.
I’m so happy you are making this series. I love Cataclysm but have never been this proficient in the game’s mechanics. You are a wonderful entertainer and teacher.
I just want to say I really like your narrative style with this Let's Play. I just started playing CDDA a couple days ago, and your tutorial videos were very helpful. The way you narrate these Let's Plays in detail allows me to listen to them in the background at work, and I still have a pretty good idea of what's happening, even if I can't see the screen.
I know nothing about guns save what little I’ve learned from Payday 2, and all I remembered when you found the 5/7 was that it was one of the few guns that could punch through a riot shield. Appreciate the lessons tho!
Never before have i thought about detonating a car to get some parts quickly. Then again with this many meteores... i swear one have fallen on a farm house i spawned in.
I've watched through this whole (as of now) Let's Play after Miro retweeted one of your Fear and Hunger videos. I've really enjoyed it! I love Cataclysm DDA but I rarely have the patience to play it well. The presentation here is really excellent.
Ingame at least the 5.7mm is situationally useful, the armour piercing capability is very useful to have if you're fighting armoured opponents but it's generally wasted on zombies compared to the far more common or more powerful options available. Also to be honest most of the stuff that has armour you probably don't want to be in pistol range of anyway.
Thanks! I find the history and engineering that goes into them fascinating. They're tools that have shaped and reshaped our modern world for better and for worse, but it can be easy to just gloss over them.
Surviving a mall parking lot is something I've never managed to do before. Then again, I've never tried a mall start before. Usually getting near them is trouble enough.
Interesting history on the 5.7, on an unrelated note, are there older guns in CDDA or only newer ones? Specifically something like the M1 or Mosin Nagant, I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for WWII era weapons, my first gun was actually a Mosin Nagant.
I see a fair number of MP40s and Kalashnikovs, and sometimes Thompsons and M1 Garands. They try to make them about as common as they are IRL in New England. I'm sure there are some other WW2 guns. Oh also there are tons of M1911s.
@@mutantwormgirl interesting, I’d think the Mosin would be a little more common along with it’s ammunition due to the fact that it used to cost about eighty dollars (now eight hundred unless you can find a good deal) and, at least prior to the Ukraine invasion, the ammo was cheap and plentiful, at least as long as you didn’t mind firing corrosive rounds. The 1911 make’s sense, after all it’s helped win two world wars.
That Skyrim reference lol I used debug to build several apartment buildings for the NPCs I rescued. Yesterday I realized I accidentally killed half of them and saved without realizing it 😢
just a warning to anyone thinking buying the steam version, the admins there are purging any thread that bring criticism our mention the free version, i literally got banned for that
I personally have a bit of a soft spot for the FN 5.7, it's the "Punisher" handgun in Resident Evil 4, and the interesting history of it, makes it one of my favorites, along with the P90, which uses the same ammo type. Oooh an aluminum bat, now that feels very punk, along with the sleeveless coat. >:D
O, blessed are we to receive additional Cataclysm. I give my thanks, and sacrifice my words to Mighty Algoritmos so that he might spread this video amongst the people.
Ayy neato! 7th installment! That figurine looks really awesome :O Also a little heads-up given you have updated the game (and unsure if people mentioned in other videos), regarding calories and weight: - The calories/nutrition system update may have broken a few people's characters given the threshold for when one changes "category" were raised (e.g.: "normal" to "overweight"), some people may have found themselves in "underfed" or "underweight" situations, very very deep into them in fact. If it starts being a problem for you, the best way to fix it is to reset needs in the debug menu (or alternatively award your character 90k calories so it is back to normal weight, close to overweight.) On a small side note, you can sort the items in your "V"(Look Around) and AIM menus by hitting "s". Helps a lot when looking for specific things (it is also much more visually appealing when looking through loot). On the [g]Pickup Menu you can use ";" to change the "hierarchy" too (i.e.: How items are displayed). As for the bugout bags I think there was a recent PR (unsure if it was merged or not) that severely changed loot tables and nerfed the amount of zombies that may have them too. EDIT: Re-Temperatures: The cold/chilly also comes from the sweating your character produces when "exercising" / fighting, or from bleeding too. Limb Score matters as well, but your limbs didn't seem to be damaged enough to count towards it yet.
The daytime parking lot was really scary to watch! I have horrible luck with grabs, I get grabbed once, and then I can not break free unless I kill the zombie grabbing me. So if there are multiple zombies I always get crushed ^_^; Because of this I pretty much only use spears unless I can get zombies isolated.
With current changes the grabs are ungodly overpowered. Between nearly unbreakable grabs (even 14 str does not guarantee success) and cheap "free action" grabs (basically, a Z can grab for 0 moves as it gets adjacent) being grabbed by more than one Z is a death sentence. The devs are working on the issue, but there is no ETA.
@@XelexMirror I was not aware of the "free action" grab, but that explains a lot of odd cases where I thought I would have time to step away but ended up grabbed anyways. Good to know, thank you!
Just discovered your channel, it's pretty cool to get to see someone play instead of my usual experience which generally involves dying in the first 48 hours. Also I totally wish I had your pretty voice if you know what I mean? ;)
Just catching the playlist link at the end with the thumbnail from the first vid it's wild how your character is already a far cry away from that first day. First time a gun has gone off since that episode too, I think?
You just know somebody's gonna clip "Cheese" or "Sausage" for a soundboard. Archery seems really effective, but the lack of any real backup plan made me wince a few times.

@Worm Girl Thanks again for featuring the miniature! 1:26 Excited to watch this today 😊
timing is a bit wrong, buddy :D
Mate you did an amazing job, and fair play for creating such a gift. Hats off from a drunk Irishman :)
I love that the first child zombie you killed gets a poetic monologue. But the third child zombie you killed gets mocked.
You get jaded pretty quickly in the apocalypse.

Not a firearm enthusiast personally, but I really enjoy the little history lessons about guns you find! I had no idea 9mm was that old!
Lugers used it in ww1
Same especially loved the F-N 5.7 info, coming from Tarkov I had no idea about any of this info and that’s one of my favorite guns loll.

Yeah nice subtle addition of reverb in the cave dialogue
"No, there are not menstruation mechanics in the game."
