This man literally saved Doctor Who after a decade of decline and self-parody. He certainly didn't get nearly enough credit at the time, but thankfully, those final two seasons are well respected.
Great interview! I just love Sylv. He is sooo adorable still! I, for one, would love to see him make an re-appearance in Doctor Who. I'm not particularly engrossed, to say the least, in the new series but that would definitely pigue my interest.
i love Sylvester McCoy. Met him 3 times now at different Comic Cons. Sure in the Q&As he told the same stories every time, but it was always wonderful to listen to the legend speak.
I don't think I've ever seen Sylvester in an interview, but he's absolutely hilarious! He was a great Doctor, it's just a shame that some of the scripts he had to work with were sub-par. The bit about Colin Baker's fans was too funny =)
It's never bothered me that people call the character 'Doctor Who', cause many of the actors and makers of the old series addressed him as such. He's also called 'Doctor Who' in alot of the credits of the old series. It's only been a huge thing not calling him 'the Doctor' with the advent of the newer series.
but in the brain of morbious, morbious reads the dr's mind and looks back at his past 3 regenerations after the 1st dr image is shown morbious says how many more dr so in other words it sounds like he hsa had mor than 13 regeneration and aswell i was reading dr who monthly and it said in there that the dr has had more than 20
Yeah, that was an uneven episode. But it still had that punk spirit, and it has some good moments. From Season 25, Remembrance and Greatest Show are the classics.
Its a shame Sylvester McCoy was given poor quality scripts when he began as the Doctor. I loved the last few episodes of the classic series with Sylvester McCoy. Oh and I am so relieved the 11th Doctor isn't James Nesbitt. =]
Also the Doctor Who exhibition shown here is the first exhibition that was set up behind the Millennium Centre, visited once but wasn't as good as the current one is. Shame it's closing!!
I don't know if anyone else knows this and I might have just made it up, but on the doctor only regenerating 12 times, apparently hes actually regenerated many more times then this and after all he is in his late 900's I think :P wouldn't be too surprising. Any thoughts?
....I did really like some of the McCoy episodes...of course the Davros one stands out with the Imperial and Renegade Daleks fighting for the hand of Omega, and the one called "Paradise Towers" was it? about the apartment building? that really sticks out for some reason....Colin Baker is my fave, even out of the new Drs,...he was so unpredictable...loved it....
I don't take down comments, an opinion is an opinion, but McCoy was all right, the scripts in the first season really let him down and, as he toned down the comedy to become the all knowing darker Doctor to be seen best in season 26, there was much improvement and hope for the future, they pulled the plug too early.
0:36 that wonderful moment where I thought they'd kept a regeneration secret for once, only for it to lead into the biggest cop out in the history of television
@chrisplyr457 timelords can live for thousands of years. In jon pertwee's time it was stated that the doctor was several thousand years old. Later it was later said that he was younger.
When in the Pertwee-era did they say that? Also in the Brain of Morbius we witness earlier Doctors whom we do not recognise. I recall Tom Baker being 750 and McCoy 953
Why would anyone want Daniel Radcliffe as the Doctor? Yes, they're getting younger but they need a good actor. Loved Sylvester and his umbrella joke here.
Daniel Radcliffe? Seriously though, McCoy was "my" Doctor growing up, I loved him even when I hated the story (which was too often I'm afraid), and it's quite sad that he's almost forgotten today.
@SamusDrake Frantic running around, over dramatic music, crescendo after crescendo, the Tennant Doctor always running around shouting "brilliant, oh snap, I am the Doctor nobody will die" and Smith running around "Goody, Monsters, I eat monsters for breakfast, you companions are extraordinary, you're messing the the DOCTOR you monsters, big mistake, Amy, LOOK at me, don't you stop looking" before mentioning something from a classic episode like "do you have any celery" or "I wish I had a scarf".
12 regenerations, but they should make the 13 as if he's taking them from the Master. The Master comes back finds a way to get the full regeneratation, but the doctor accidentaly gets in the way as he's saving the universe from the Master. The Master blames him for stealing his lives.
Funny and somewhat Ironic Slvestor quipped the closest they got to casting a girl was a scotsman when out of all 11 docs thus far only himself and David are Scottish!
@Chrisplyr457 What makes you think time lords have the same life spans as us humans? lol A life span for them could be about 500 years ...when their body gets too old and weak they can regenerate and live another 500 years or so...
@Bigfinlach What the heck man Daniel Radcliffe is a good actor and not a deuchebag like every other actor who made big as a child. Like Taylor Lautner!
Russell T. Davies just about managed to resuscitate the show for a few years. But then Steven Moffat came along and stabbed it right through the heart. Now Chris Chibnall's shown up to finally bury the corpse.
What idiots! They have an actor who played the Doctor right there, and, instead of interviewing him what do they do? Cut away to a clip of people giving their opinion on who should play the Doctor. Sheesh! Why bother having McCoy there if you did not want to spend time with him,
I actually liked Sylvester McCoy more in season 24 than I did in seasons 25 and 26. I think he suffered greatly at the hands of pretentious, novice scriptwriters who turned the Doctor into a smug, irritating know-it-all, under the guidance of a pretentious, novice script editor who'd never actually written a script that got made into a TV episode and an amateur producer. I don't blame Sylvester McCoy at all, but I think the BBC pulled the plug at exactly the right time.
May Sylvester never die
Too right!
Thanks from a McCoy fan in the states!
"He's wearing trainers now, which would never have happened in your day"
....Peter Davidson...
This man literally saved Doctor Who after a decade of decline and self-parody. He certainly didn't get nearly enough credit at the time, but thankfully, those final two seasons are well respected.

13 years on...thoughts on the show now?
i love Sylvester McCoy. Met him 3 times now at different Comic Cons. Sure in the Q&As he told the same stories every time, but it was always wonderful to listen to the legend speak.
Man I loved the McCoy episodes. I wish He had had more time.
+Pat1974 I've seen some of the Sylvester McCoy episodes and i still watch all the classic stories on my portable DVD player
If only they'd made Season 27.....imagine...! It would've been amazing! Doctor Who for the '90s, the best decade!
''that's to protect myself against fans of colin baker'' XD
Better times.
I love the Eddie Izzard suggestion! :)
Oh, my God, even the very idea brings me close to tears.
I love McCoy. Just look at him. He oozes the suave that the Doctor needs.
Her was always one of my favourite.
I don't think I've ever seen Sylvester in an interview, but he's absolutely hilarious! He was a great Doctor, it's just a shame that some of the scripts he had to work with were sub-par.
The bit about Colin Baker's fans was too funny =)
he was my fav..they should bring him back
He's such a cool guy
Underated Doctor.
It's never bothered me that people call the character 'Doctor Who', cause many of the actors and makers of the old series addressed him as such. He's also called 'Doctor Who' in alot of the credits of the old series. It's only been a huge thing not calling him 'the Doctor' with the advent of the newer series.
McCoy's my Doctor.

Yeah, that was an uneven episode. But it still had that punk spirit, and it has some good moments. From Season 25, Remembrance and Greatest Show are the classics.
actually the character was first credited as Dr. Who and then as Doctor Who before switching over to the Doctor
Eddie Izzard, theres a Doctor I would like to see. Even if its just a comedy spoof.
Would anyone think it be cool if Sylvestor's Doctor met the current one.
the point about the toffee was about the richard armitage comment, i just clicked on the wrong thingy. Sylvester McCoy is awesome
I'm learning how to do McCoy's voice. Right now, I can do an Scottish Dalek. Close Enough.
How is it now?
The instinct of the younger Doctor :)
Anthony Head and Simon pegg have already been on doctor who
"What about a girl in the role?" "Let me introduce to Jodie Whittaker!"
Its a shame Sylvester McCoy was given poor quality scripts when he began as the Doctor. I loved the last few episodes of the classic series with Sylvester McCoy. Oh and I am so relieved the 11th Doctor isn't James Nesbitt. =]
I usually have to call him Doctor Who so I know that everyone else knows who I'm talking about. I always know he's the Doctor.
"That's to protect myself against fans of Colin Baker's." LOL I hear those two are actually friends.
Sorry folks, Matt Smith is next!!
Also the Doctor Who exhibition shown here is the first exhibition that was set up behind the Millennium Centre, visited once but wasn't as good as the current one is. Shame it's closing!!
The credits said "Doctor Who," but he was always called "the Doctor" within the series, excepting WOTAN and Susan.
@zoidberg590 They were probably considering the New Adventures books in their votes.
I don't know if anyone else knows this and I might have just made it up, but on the doctor only regenerating 12 times, apparently hes actually regenerated many more times then this and after all he is in his late 900's I think :P wouldn't be too surprising. Any thoughts?
Very funy man!!!
Sylvester McCoy is my favorite doctor. If that means anything coming from an American.
Not much, I'm afraid. Don't have any relatives in Canada? ;) #TULSI2020
Does anyone else get annoyed when presenters call him 'Doctor Who'? HE"S CALLED THE DOCTOR. DOCTOR WHO IS THE NAME OF THE BLOODY SHOW.
....I did really like some of the McCoy episodes...of course the Davros one stands out with the Imperial and Renegade Daleks fighting for the hand of Omega, and the one called "Paradise Towers" was it? about the apartment building? that really sticks out for some reason....Colin Baker is my fave, even out of the new Drs,...he was so unpredictable...loved it....
Paradise Towers was great with the Kangs and Pex
I don't take down comments, an opinion is an opinion, but McCoy was all right, the scripts in the first season really let him down and, as he toned down the comedy to become the all knowing darker Doctor to be seen best in season 26, there was much improvement and hope for the future, they pulled the plug too early.
0:36 that wonderful moment where I thought they'd kept a regeneration secret for once, only for it to lead into the biggest cop out in the history of television
@roseblueyes He is probably my favorite classic doctor!
@Chrisplyr457 steven moffat's working around the 12 regeneration thing..
Daniel Ratcliff obviously NOT! And thank goodness it was none of those four "Somebody's"
amazing mcoy knew that it would end up being a tease. he knows the series too much
The 10th and the 7th where both good
@chrisplyr457 timelords can live for thousands of years. In jon pertwee's time it was stated that the doctor was several thousand years old. Later it was later said that he was younger.

Great video. I love McCoy, he had such a shit deal as the Doctor.
Gotta love the speculation here.
sean pertwee should be the next doctor
what does it mean he is more than just another time lord because i have never understood that
"heard" I meant, before I saw this video
yeah.
Daniel Radcliffe?
Seriously though, McCoy was "my" Doctor growing up, I loved him even when I hated the story (which was too often I'm afraid), and it's quite sad that he's almost forgotten today.
Sylvester has aged well, if he dyed his hair and got his old costume, he would look just like he did in the 80s.
He's called Clyde.
@sallyjosie I listen to the Big Finish stuff and with the exception of a few 60s companions everyone sounds pretty much the same.
And Ironicly so is David Tennant.
Evil Reepicheep and Evil Reepicheep? That would be interesting.
In 1990, readers of Doctor Who Magazine voted McCoy's Doctor "Best Doctor", over perennial favourite Tom Baker.
Shows what a bunch of fanbois they were. The general public don’t even know who Sylv is.
A brilliant new Doctor would be Richard Armitage, he would take the show in a different direction!
@RumbleFriends He's grayer, but he looks more like he did when he played the Doctor than Colin or Tom.
Wasn't Richard Armitage in Robin Hood and the Vicar of Dibley?
I think the next Doctor should be portrayed by John Noble.
@instalation9 yeah it bugs me too
@Cybusmaster92 peter wasn't peter was 29 when he started
12 regenerations, but they should make the 13 as if he's taking them from the Master. The Master comes back finds a way to get the full regeneratation, but the doctor accidentaly gets in the way as he's saving the universe from the Master. The Master blames him for stealing his lives.
Rememberence of the darleks was cool
I think Eddie Izzard and Simon Pegg would both make good Masters.
never been a fan of McCoy's Doc but do like him as an actor he's a good actor.
Oops sorry that is "pique" my interest. Not sure "pigue" is a word. I always seem to place "g" in where "q" should be. I do it all the time! GRRR!
DR. WHO RULES!!!!
where's the hat? oh wait, i know, ace blew it up with nitro 9.
It's Radagast the Brown!!
originially he was Dr. Who and then Doctor Who
...And then Docter Who, and then Doctor What.
What a fucking cop out that was.
No but in the show he always is the doctor. In my opinion, everyone should call him the doctor and if someone is confused, sod them.
radagast whoo!
Daniel Radcliff *obvously* ...
What's that supposed to mean?!
Funny and somewhat Ironic Slvestor quipped the closest they got to casting a girl was a scotsman when out of all 11 docs thus far only himself and David are Scottish!
do u think the doctor has unlimited regenerations then
I bet he'll be great in The Hobbit movie
@Chrisplyr457 What makes you think time lords have the same life spans as us humans? lol A life span for them could be about 500 years ...when their body gets too old and weak they can regenerate and live another 500 years or so...
@gothamcity29 YES!
Uh...who is that blonde beside the host???
@Intraverseneptune
Never mind, then.
DANIEL RADCLIFFE WOULD BE RUBBISH!!!
@Bigfinlach
What the heck man Daniel Radcliffe is a good actor and not a deuchebag like every other actor who made big as a child. Like Taylor Lautner!
10 years later, we finally have a female Doctor in Jodie Whittaker
Russell T. Davies just about managed to resuscitate the show for a few years. But then Steven Moffat came along and stabbed it right through the heart. Now Chris Chibnall's shown up to finally bury the corpse.
Wooptydoo!
@@icemachine79 Doctor who has been "on its way out" since 2010
Daniel Radcliffe FTW!!!!!
lol and all the suggestions where wrong
0:20 5.50pm? UMMMMM...
bruce forsythe
@roseblueyes no

Something similar happened with Moffat as script editor despite being a good writer
