This is so weird to me, he was so different. People watched this after Tennant thinking he wouldn't be any good, but he became brilliant :) I'll miss 11
I had no idea what Doctor Who was. I am from Germany and I am a huge Star Trek and Star Wars fan, but Matt Smith was my first Doctor. I stopped watching once he was out. In your opinion, what seasons are a must watch?
And people wonder why he's my Doctor. He's so genuine, so enthusiastic, so charismatic. AND he happens to be a monstrously talented actor on top of that. I'm glad he's the one playing the Doctor. He seems like a great guy.
+L Lawliet I can't decide which one out of David and Matt is my favourite. It's quite funny actually because, whenever I re-watch David's era I think he's my favourite. But at the end of Matt's my reaction is exactly the same.
I liked what he basically said that, "I'm going to do my own version of the Doctor". That, shows bravery, maturity and a glimmer of brilliancy. May the Ood sing and spread new songs about him all over the universe .
Beginning a marathon of the Eleventh Doctor era today before the arrival of the Twelfth Doctor on August 23rd, starting with 'The Eleventh Hour'. Oh, this will hurt. But kind of good hurt. I'll miss you, Matt Smith, you were absolutely incredible, and I am so excited for Peter Capaldi.
I remember hearing about when Tom Baker started Doctor Who. He was working construction one day and the BBC called him and said they were making the announcement the next day, so he went to his boss and put in his notice. When they asked why, he said he got another job. the next day the entire crew found out and they were flabbergasted.
Matt has acknowledged the small amount of backlash (of course, every new Doctor has received some backlash of some sort) his casting got. I wonder what he feels about the fact that he has become just as adored and beloved as every other Doctor before him after what had to have been something of a rough transition, following the wildly popular David Tennant and coming on as a new Doctor with a brand new Companion as well (something that hasn't happened since the show came back). Damn. That's the question I should have asked him at Philly Comic Con.
It definitely must have been daunting to not even have the continuity of the companion or showrunner, as much as it's exiting to start something new. Matt is always asked his thoughts at convention when someone new is cast and he's always so incredibly supportive and hypes them up. I think it's his way of making sure no-one else has to face the backlash he did so they get the best shot of being the Doctor. I feel bad I ever doubted the guy honestly, watching the interview back in hindsight and see how much of his mannerisms perfectly fit into his performance says it all really.
Same here, but to be fair he did look a bit weird here. They were originally going to give him a gothic kid of look which wouldn't have gone with this Doctor.
He's all giddy and giggly over it, it's precious! I adore it when actors love the characters they're playing. Matt just loves this. As did David. So cute
I remember seeing his reveal on here and already imagining him in the role, playing out possible scenes in my head with him as the Doctor and under Moffats wing. It was very exciting! Shame other people didn't have that mindset.
Wild to watch this now! I remember it was a big scandal when they casted him. Everyone was up in arms about him being so young and skepticism was at an all time high following Tennant. I remember seeing the Eleventh Hour and then being blown away. Now most people consider 11 & 10 to be the best Doctors. They made a good choice gambling on him like that. Great actor.
Matt, if you read this and I know you won't, more than ten years afterwards : you were such an amazing Doctor, you fitted the role perfectly, or the role perfectly fitted you but you managed to catch me in these adventures like no one before, Thank you so so much for this!
Oh god. So many memories. It seems like yesterday that this happened and already we've got a new Doctor. Not too sure if I should be displeased or happy.
I remember when this was first broadcast five years ago, Matt's face appeared on the screen and I said aloud: "What a weirdo." And yet he grew in to one of the most unique incarnations of the character. It's the same with Peter Capaldi, really; when he was announced I remember groaning because I couldn't imagine a man of his age filling the shoes of a Doctor who was so vibrant and bouncy, but the promo stuff I've seen of him so far have been enough to change my mind already. I can't wait for the premiere tonight!
I wonder if Matt ever goes through old interviews of himself on youtube, maybe reads some comments, and just think about what it was like...I dunno...I would do that if I was a celebrity xD
One day he will. No doubt about it. If it hasn't happened already. In my eyes he was the best doctor of all time. Played the role perfectly. Had some brilliant storylines and I loved the Pond arc.
Every times he smile, I can't keep myself from returning one, even though he can't see it. He has an infectious smile, when he smiles you just have to, and I love him because of that.
I was very hesitant about accepting a new Doctor after Ten. How could anyone live up to Tennant? But I can safely say, while I adore Ten and David Tennant, I immediately fell in love with Matt Smith's portrayal and Eleven is MY Doctor!!!!
This interview actually puts my mind at ease a bit. Judging from just the pictures of Smith and his 30 seconds of film at the end of the last season of Doctor Who, I'd say I'm not too thrilled about this new Doctor; however, I would be lying if I said I wasn't at least a little curious now. David will always be my number one, but this guy may end up surprising me. Who knows?
One of the reasons I love Matt Smith so much is that we both have the same favorite Doctor. And you can really tell he's a fan of his too, through his performance

You really can tell, he's worried about what the public reception is gonna be. I'm sure everybody working on the show at the start of the Moffat era was. The last likeable Doctor. Peter Capaldi was a grouch (why did they try to repeat what Colin Baker failed to do) and then Jodie Whittaker had no personality at all (she's a woman, that's enough right, we don't need to write the scripts properly as long as the men can oogle at her).
