I think Raptor fight is the most likely scenario for the bull’s scars however that being said I can see Collin trevorrow solving this mystery for us in camp Cretaceous
Now I don’t know 100% what caused the scars but I think that since they were fresh looking I feel like during the time the Rex’s were not at the nest the Bull Rex May have gotten into a fight with something big like a Baryonyx and it had called it’s May for assistance and after receiving the scars and killing the Dinosaur he and the female may have dragged the body back to the nest (this could also explain why it took so long for them to realize the baby was missing)
Hey Klayton - I know I've said this before in a comment on another video but I am saying it again -- the buck rex from The Lost World is my all time favorite. Just love the design - the skin pattern, coloration and the features (the thicker brow ridges). I think it's hard to pin down what the exact source of those scars could be. In my view the designers didnt consider a source - it was just a means to distinguish this rex from the female. Just to add to the possibilities however - the source of the scarring may even have been something less grand - maybe it came from a gallimimus hunt - it would have made a desperate bid for freedom as the jaws of the buck closed in around the base of its neck. Gallimimus does have rather long forelimbs and sharp claws -- The stan winston male rex - mold wise is just the female t-rex with neck, brow and scarring alterations - thats what Paul Mejias (one of the artists who worked on the franchise told me back in 2005/2006).
An Important note so many people don't understand: Female Tyrannosaurs were larger than the males. adult T-rex males are smaller than adult females. Species with this form of sexual dimorphism where the sex based size Often have large females who have higher testosterone counts than the males, which in return makes them bigger, stronger, and more importantly more aggressive than the males. that male's scars, more than likely, are mating scars from the courtship where his mate got too riled up too quick.
An important note on that: Its considered myth or a theory at best. It is far from considered fact that female rexes were larger, and I'm fairly certain that piece of information is rather outdated at this point. However, regardless of size difference, it wouldn't be too surprising for females in general to be more aggressive. Despite that though, those slashes still seem too small and shallow to be from a rex biting the muzzle.
@@rev0568 Indeed you are right, it was proposed and advocated for a while in the 90's based on two seperate pieces of skeletal anatomy. Firstly that Tyrannosaurus has two skeletal morphs (Or at least did in the 90's, more specimens since then have made these less distinctive) one robust and the other gracile (Which anytime you encounter two morphs gender is alwalys an obvious hypothesis), and Secondly that notion that modern Crocodilians have an extra tail chevron in males for anchoring their genitalia. Both these ideas ran into problems though, Sue for instance the biggest and most robust Tyrannosaurus until the recent Scotty was a Robust morph with an extra tail Chevron (So using this line of thinking male in fact), then the Tail Chevron validity was questioned for living Crocodilians much less Dinosaurs (www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0944200605000474?via%3Dihub) and was all but eliminated when the first accurate gendering of a Tyrannosaurus came with B-Rex and Mary Schweitzer work on proteins and medulary tissue.
Similar to the GvK intro, JWD should show various shots of dino scenes from the previous films in different angles, old photos of the first ever Tyrannosaur skull and Giganotosaur skull from real life, some dino fossils, some people narrating stuff about dinosaurs relating to genetics, money, extinction etc, Ian Malcolm narrates most of the opening intro, while John Hammond (voiced by someone who sounds like Richard Attenborough) talks to the InGen Board about his parks and also a photo of Simon Masrani shaking hands with an InGen official to represent him buying the company (film editors should be able to create an Irrfan Khan model and design it like Masrani. Shots of Dr Henry Wu in a lab, DNA strands flashing across the screen, photographs of Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler discovering footprints of giant theropods engaging in battle during the early 2000s (Dominion will finally reveal to them who those theropod footprints belonged to), footage of the Iron Analyser discovering Mosasaurus DNA, footage of Lewis Dodgson handing money to an unknown person to basically steal InGen’s research info, a camera footage showing baby Rexy hatching out of an egg then we hear John Hammond’s voice saying, “welcome to the world little girl, one day you’ll rule the Earth like a victorious queen” (Hammond says this as a figure of speech, not an actual intention that she’s going to be on the mainland as free-roaming although Dominion may make his figure of speech come true). Then we hear booming footsteps echoing, we hear Rexy growling, then we hear an even louder footstep, and we hear Giga growling with a sinister huffing sound similar to Indominus. Then the intro ends with the Dominion logo shining in silver and when it fades to black, we hear a mixture of Rexy and Giga roaring faintly. The music for most of the intro should be this: ua-cam.com/video/ssROYqOn2bk/v-deo.html (Start from 0:23 and ends at 0:44)
I'm not so sure whether or not the scars are from the Spinosaurus because if Buck ever fought him, The spinosaurus would've been dead already. Because Buck is the strongest T-rex in jurassic park, so I think scars are from the Raptors ,and then he killed them after that.
The scars came from the mate. She discovered that her friend Susan from the jungle nearby had recently laid eggs, but knew that Susan had no mate. Also, Rex has been spending a lot more time hunting lately, more so than usual. She put two-and-two together.
It could possibly have been a Pteranodon. Ingen cloned quite a few and were known to have lived in the same region of Tyrannosaur nesting sites, as seen in the epilogue. What could have happened was that a Pterosaur could have attempted to steal the baby rex (similar to modern harpy eagles with caimans) and was struck by the rex. More proof of this could be that the scars don’t appear to be deep, and slashing from the hooked talons of the Pteranodon could create curved scars, as seen in the Bull rex. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk!
I'm down with going for 3 personal ways the Bull came in possession with its scars 1. Perhaps from another Rex due to mating rights 2. The Striped Raptors may have tried to enter the Rexes territory looking for food, attempting to take out any young Tyrannosaurs before the grew up or even trying to steal meats from one of there fresh kills 3. Perhaps while it was hunting what ever it wanted to kill didn't want to got down without a fight like say a Stegosaurs thagomizer or Trikes horn that was going for the eye but missed its mark 4. A large theropod with long-gated arms with Sharp claws like Allosaurus was searching for food or even thought of going towards the nest to attack there offspring
@Pee Pee T.rex and Dakotaraptor (which looks closer to the JP raptors than the real Velociraptors do) however did live in the same place at the same time.
Another plausible suggestion for how the rex got it's scars is the frill of a triceratops given that it has spikes on the sides, it would explain why the wound is so uniform and go across the face, probably in a attempt to bite the animal the trike swings it's head to block the bite hitting the rex with the side of it's frill.
I do think the Raptor theory holds some ground given that the fight scene from the first movie provides three key points of information. 1) As said in the video the fact that the raptors can leave scars which can last a long time. 2) When pressed (such as fighting over food) Raptors may engage with a Rex rather than flee And 3) Even when surrounded and attacked by a group of Raptors the Rex comes out triumphant with only a few scars. Compared to other Rex fights the Raptor one was a quick and simple win for the Rex. Whereas I feel the Bull would likely have sustained a few more scars from fighting other large Carnos. So I'm sold on this theory tbh.
Looking at the placement, I like the "animal struggling while trying to be eaten" explanation. I could imagine a raptor or something similar flailing wildly trying to escape the jaws of the Rex and slashing its face.
I’m starting to think that it could’ve been a raptor that gave the buck its scars, or maybe a Baryonyx, since the latter has those huge claws on its hands.
Yeah, it could’ve been a velociraptor. Speaking of which, there was going to be a scene in The Lost World where the T-Rex and Velociraptor fight in the Rex nest but got cut from the final film.
Just a quick though for a video idea, I’ve been listening through TLW motion picture soundtrack and there are several pieces used which aren’t heard in the film, most notably one called ‘the trek’. I seem to remember a while ago you describing a potential deleted scene in which Ludlow and Roland go hunting for the bull Rex towards the climax of the original ending for the film. Listening to this track, I can really picture it fitting with them tracking the Rex, maybe something you could look into. P.s. love your videos
It's baffling how aggressive the Raptors are. It's bad enough they challenged Rexy, but the Buck??? Even with a strategized attack, challenging a full grown Rex is risky and soo not worth it. If raptors are the culprit, they may be smart, but this goes to show their aggression out scales their reasoning skills.
We also need to know that in JP1 the last remaining raptor even started clawing and biting at Rexy’s face while in her jaws - ofc this all stopped when she chomped down on the raptor and then slammed her into a dinosaur skeleton in the visitor center. If you look very closely you’ll see the raptor attacking Rexy’s face, fighting until the bitter end, and leaving some wounds there. It’s possible that something similar happened to the male tyrannosaur in JP2. Who knows?? Still, it’s on the table unless we get more information on this particular topic.
In my Mass Effect remake of Jurassic Park, PaleoPrime, i plan to have Rexy the Tyrannosaurus scarred from a fight with 2 Allosaurus in the 2nd act then Utahraptor in the end. In the sequel regarding the parent T-Rexes, well... I would say predator prey relationships were involved
I would comment that there was at least 8 Tyrannosaurs cloned on Sorna. 6 that remained on Sorna, and 2 that were brought to Nublar. I believe there was a cannonization of the young Rex being on Nublar and dying before Jurassic Park happened
I'm gonna go with the Raptor theory in regards to how the Buck got it's scars. It can't possibly have been another Rex because we all know how short a T-Rex's arms are for one, and two they can't possibly be bite marks either because the scars are too far apart. So I'm definitely thinking they're claw marks from a Raptor, more specifically the curved hooks on their feet.
I agree with you that it very well could have been from one of the Velociraptors. With how straight the cuts look and what animals were documented on the island at that time. Plus also consider how some of TLW promo photos are with the raptors around the baby and the two parent Rex’s. May not be 100% confirmed, but all that considered it’s definitely a solid guess. Plus, the scars look relatively fresh. Not 20+ years old like Rexy’s but they’re still red implying that it could have happened somewhat recent from when we saw the Buck on screen.
No lie these videos you post are really helpful 💯🦖🦕 the depth of detail you go in for Jurassic Park & Jurassic World make a lot of things to connect more clearly 🐐
I always thought it might have been a Is stegasuras because when Rolan goes to the nest the first time and you can see a dead on at the nest and with their spiked tail can inflict damage and came down with almost a vertical chop when Sara was in the log
One strong possibility is a Stegosaurus. I say this for a small number of reasons. If the bull fought a Stegoasaur, the spikes on the tail could have made very linear lacerations. Second, they stated that the Tyrannosaurs territory was near the exterior of the island, which is also where a lot of the herd animals were, including the Stegosaurs. I'm not saying the Velociraptor theory or another Tyrannosaur theory is wrong. I'm just proposing this is another very plausible theory.
Something interesting. Its also possible the islands herbivores could of inflicted those wounds. Thinking stegosaurus, since plenty of those were around. The scar seem fresher than Rexy's so can pin-point it to either of those creatures. or maybe we come across some other super duper secret ingen's list that had Therizinosaurus.
I'd give a small shot to it possibly being from a fight with a stego or another large herbaviour with spikes of some kind, though I'd be more inclined to think another carnivor caused it in the end.
It is possible that the buck got his scars from the raptors. The lost world picture with the buck, doe, and junior with the raptors supports this theory. Maybe the infant happen to stumble across a pack of raptors, until the parents showed up; causing a scene which resulted in the buck having battle damage from the incident.
I think that Stan Winston, Steven Spielberg and Jack Horner thought it would be a nice little touch to add those scars on the buck rex’s face to add a bit of grounded realism to one of our most feared predators of our day; the great white shark, due to their mating habits they frequently get bitten and raked by their mates teeth during the mating process and honestly I hope that’s what they intended!
Buck might've met spino on isla sorna , and they fought which is how buck got that scar . Or else he might've fought bull from jp3 for doe . And last theory is , when buck and doe went running to the trailer , we saw them pushing aside tree branches, some of the branches might've injured buck during that .

Love your videos man, if I could make a suggestion and hear me out Will the Pachyrhinosaurus appear in Jurassic World: Dominion. Just an idea for your next video :)
As soon as I seen this I assumed it would have had to be another tyrannosaur because facial bitting in there species is significant. Nearly all specimen skulls exhibit those scar
I'm actually thinking it's more of a medium carnivore claw mark(s). Not from its arm, but instead its foot. Like a kicking in the face. Because the scar seems too far apart for Raptor claws. So the active medium carnivores in Sorna are Carno and Bary. Big chance it's from a Carno as so far they're known to be pretty aggressive This might be a stretch, but another evidence that it might be Carno came from Fallen Kingdom where the Carno did the kicking after getting pinned down
Raptor makes perfect sense to me, 3 straight down I was thinking one in it's mouth desperately trying to stop its fate from happening. Keeps your mind open to how each species reacted and interacted. We already know how deadly and insane raptors are. Could have even happened over one of the T Rex young being ambushed and potentially killed, so many plausible routes you could take with this I love it!
Raptors are honestly the most likely culprit. We know they have no issue with trying to fight a rex when they should run, and we've seen what raptor wounds look like on a rex, and these look similar enough to have been from raptor claws. I doubt a dilo could have done this, in fact it's extremely unlikely all things considered, and the cerato ran just from smelling spino dung. I feel most other smaller carnivores, excluding raptors, would run at the sight or smell of adult rexes. Other rexes could've done it, but those wounds would likely be a bit deeper and more like punctures instead of shallow slashes.
A confrontation with one of the Baryonyx maybe, the Rex might have gotten a hold of it, so as a last ditch attempt to escape, the Bary may have flailed and slashed the Rex' face, giving itself time to escape and flee, either that or a confrontation with one of the many raptors as you said
Another Theory. Rexy having an infant which she tried to keep save. It just wasnt seen in the movie. To keep it save she was hunting the intruders. That is why she attacked the Raptors
I personally think that the scars on the tRex‘s face is from when they get attacked by people Who want to capture them Bc at the end of the Jurassic park 2 when the tRex family is happy u can see the scars better and who knows the T. rex could have gotten it from the boat when he used his head to open the door on the ship… but this is all a theory:)
My head canon for the scars was always from the PlayStation game. The male goes through this huge odyssey through the island. I always assumed that’s what the game was going for.
Cannibalism is usually a last result for most carnivores. Whereas Site B in TLW looks to have enough food for the whole rex family. Then again, we don’t know true nature of T. rex behavior.
The raptors do seem like the most likely candidates based on the positions and shape of the scars. Both species are territorial and I'm sure conflicts happened from time to time.
One other possibility is that it (for a few of them anyways) was from the environment itself, as it was seen from above the tree line that the two pretty much plowed through the foliage on their way to the trailer and a few of the scars looked looked pretty fresh when they showed up. Just sayin’...

I think Raptor fight is the most likely scenario for the bull’s scars however that being said I can see Collin trevorrow solving this mystery for us in camp Cretaceous
It was the Spinosaurus all along, the true mastermind behind everything!

Showing LOVE for my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE CHANNEL PERIOD Thank You for another great video once again Mr Klayton. Have a Blessed day everyone
The buck is my all time favourite animal in the franchise, the design and the scenes he’s in are so damn good
Hey Klayton - I know I've said this before in a comment on another video but I am saying it again -- the buck rex from The Lost World is my all time favorite.
Gallimimus does have rather long forelimbs and sharp claws --
The stan winston male rex - mold wise is just the female t-rex with neck, brow and scarring alterations - thats what Paul Mejias (one of the artists who worked on the franchise told me back in 2005/2006).
Nope . Nada . The Biggest TREX fossil found ever was a MALE fossil.
I love movies where every detail has a story behind it!
The music for most of the intro should be this:

I'm down with going for 3 personal ways the Bull came in possession with its scars
1. Perhaps from another Rex due to mating rights
2. The Striped Raptors may have tried to enter the Rexes territory looking for food, attempting to take out any young Tyrannosaurs before the grew up or even trying to steal meats from one of there fresh kills
3. Perhaps while it was hunting what ever it wanted to kill didn't want to got down without a fight like say a Stegosaurs thagomizer or Trikes horn that was going for the eye but missed its mark
4. A large theropod with long-gated arms with Sharp claws like Allosaurus was searching for food or even thought of going towards the nest to attack there offspring
Love the content Klayton ! Just wanted to tell you to keep making videos about Jurassic Park/World 🦖
I agree!
My favorite video yet! The Buck has been my favorite dinosaur in the series since I first saw the movie on 97.
Is it just me, or does it seem like the Tyrannosaurus Rex and the Velociraptor have been the ultimate enemies for millions of years?
@Pee Pee
T.rex and Dakotaraptor (which looks closer to the JP raptors than the real Velociraptors do) however did live in the same place at the same time.
@@WhyTho525 The only dakotaraptor specimen we have is probably just a bunch of acheroraptor bones mixed together.
What dinosaur could give a Trex scars? It's mom with a flip flop.
I do think the Raptor theory holds some ground given that the fight scene from the first movie provides three key points of information.
1) As said in the video the fact that the raptors can leave scars which can last a long time.
2) When pressed (such as fighting over food) Raptors may engage with a Rex rather than flee
And 3) Even when surrounded and attacked by a group of Raptors the Rex comes out triumphant with only a few scars.
Good to see you going back to the classics.
I REALLY WANT 2 things:
An allosaurus vs T Rex fight.
And a allosaurus LEGO set.
Thanks!
And as you hearted this I was signing up for curiosity stream
I’m starting to think that it could’ve been a raptor that gave the buck its scars, or maybe a Baryonyx, since the latter has those huge claws on its hands.
Yeah, it could’ve been a velociraptor. Speaking of which, there was going to be a scene in The Lost World where the T-Rex and Velociraptor fight in the Rex nest but got cut from the final film.
Klayton: 'I want to talk about a Dinosaur from The Lost World...Specifically the Bull T. Rex'
Us: "I know." ^^
0:19 when a t. rex had a little too much weed
I like the idea of a Velociraptor being the cause; certainly fits, given Rexy's scars and the volatile nature of the Lost World's raptors.
Came right when I got notified Klayton! Also left a like! I’ll admit the Buck Tyrannosaur is also my favorite Rex of the series :)
Buck: I fought other carnivores.
Doe: He cut himself trying to shave like a human
I always imagined it was from a Raptor that got on the wrong end of the Rex personally.
I always thought it might have been a Is stegasuras because when Rolan goes to the nest the first time and you can see a dead on at the nest and with their spiked tail can inflict damage and came down with almost a vertical chop when Sara was in the log
Buck Rex: _"Why so SERIOUS?!"_
Now this was one awesome Jurassic Park theory, and I love it alot, also this was another great Klayton video.
Also I wish yall a great day
You know it's a good day when klayton post's
A new vid
Something interesting. Its also possible the islands herbivores could of inflicted those wounds. Thinking stegosaurus, since plenty of those were around. The scar seem fresher than Rexy's so can pin-point it to either of those creatures. or maybe we come across some other super duper secret ingen's list that had Therizinosaurus.
Very acute observations Klayton....good video!
0:50 to 0:55 was the funniest thing in my life lol
The two t rexs be like : you are fan you wanna know how i got this scars

Big chance it's from a Carno as so far they're known to be pretty aggressive
This might be a stretch, but another evidence that it might be Carno came from Fallen Kingdom where the Carno did the kicking after getting pinned down
That Buck would get some much BIGGER scars in JP3. ; )
It would show how strong the buck is for killing such a fearsome creature 💪🏾
Raptor makes perfect sense to me, 3 straight down I was thinking one in it's mouth desperately trying to stop its fate from happening.
Keeps your mind open to how each species reacted and interacted.
We already know how deadly and insane raptors are.
Could have even happened over one of the T Rex young being ambushed and potentially killed, so many plausible routes you could take with this I love it!
Given how reckless the Tiger tribe raptors are, I can see them getting into scraps with the Buck. Especially if the Buck were young.
Another great video as always Klayton! Looking forward to hear you talk about The Jurassic World tabletop game on kickstarter when it releases!
Klayton makes the wait for Dominon less long😀😀.
I love your videos man keep up the good work 👏
I personally think that the scars on the tRex‘s face is from when they get attacked by people Who want to capture them Bc at the end of the Jurassic park 2 when the tRex family is happy u can see the scars better and who knows the T. rex could have gotten it from the boat when he used his head to open the door on the ship… but this is all a theory:)
Klayton Fioriti do you think there's going to be another bull T-Rex that could possibly be Rexy's mate.
