In Fallen Kingdom they said about the Indoraptor "it is the perfect blend of the two most dangerous creatures that have ever walked the earth." You could first assume that they mean T-Rex and raptor with this, but the Indominus Rex already had T-Rex and raptor DNA. So what if by "two most dangerous creatures that have ever walked the earth" they meant raptor and human?

What makes this even more disturbing is that the Indominus and Indoraptor were essentially isolated their entire lives. In tight cages or enclosures, with little to no enrichment or roaming space.
Canonically, this is why JWE Indo doesn't feel the need to escape when provided with the adequate housing. Movie Indos weren't treated like animals, they were products, worse still, they were weapons, tested on, and neglected.

Something else to consider is that the Indominus and Indoraptor are capable of manipulating objects with their forelimbs to a degree that is only really seen in primates and some marsupials, since they clearly have something resembling wrists, hence why they're capable of holding their "hands" in both a pronated and non-pronated position.
Side note: Yeah, it's really bizarre that the takeaways Trevorrow, Universal, and Dominion's writers had from Fallen Kingdom (even though he didn't direct it) were about the implications of human DNA in the hybrids and human cloning, even though they were by and large the least of Fallen Kingdom's problems.

@@CryptidRenfri Most predators don't kill for fun necessarily. Rather if they see an animal that acts like prey, their instincts drive them to kill it. Foxes for example are known to kill entire chicken coops, but they still do it for food. Another reason is stimulation; Felines are extremely proficient hunters and if they're not hunting they get bored. Which can be seen as doing it for the fun of it, but it's more likely their instincts telling them to practice. And they're known for 'playing' with their prey, rather than killing in surplus. The fun part of killing for these animals is the hunt itself. The act of stalking and chasing prey. Not exactly killing for the sake of killing. The most evident instances of killing for fun in animals are intelligent ones. Orcas and dolphins especially. They often kill out of boredom, not out of the thrill of hunting. What the indominus does is more in line with the later.

Since the release of Jurassic World, I have maintained that the splicing of human DNA into the Indominus was a cut minor plotline.
When we first see Claire in JW, she's dressed entirely in white. This is a visual callback to Hammond in JP1 who also wore entirely white, but for him that was to evoke the feeling of him being god-like, which is a commentary on how the character views himself (and ties into the biblical themes Ian Malcom brings to the table). However, for Claire, I feel like this also ties into the Indominus rex, which is also specifically stated to be entirely white. Why would you dress a protagonist in all white, when your antagonist is all white too? Unless there's meant to be a connection there.
When Owen is questioning Claire about exactly what DNA went into making the Indominus, she touches her hair and looks away, clearly lying and/or withholding information. Until this point, Claire is characterised as little more then a high-ranking employee desperate to appease her boss and the company's shareholders by artificially manufacturing exactly what they want - an exceptionally dangerous, awe-inspiring dinosaur. I wouldn't put it past her character to have let Wu sample some of her own DNA and add it into the Indominus cocktail, to really give the dinosaur that fear factor that her superiors are looking for. This was all under the table, of course, which is why Claire is reluctant to answer Owen. As it stands in the final cut, her reluctance has no pay-off. They have a mounting situation and she wants to keep secrets from the one person who could help? No, it feels like they cut the pay-off where she finally reveals that the Indominus has some human DNA in it. How does Claire know? It's her DNA.
The addition of human DNA also offers explanation to some of the Indomius' characteristics, like how it removed the tracker from it's own flesh, let alone understanding on a seemingly human level what the tracker even was and what it does. The Indominus also goes on a killing rampage, not for food, but seemingly just because it can. Most biological animals we know of do not demonstrate that kind of senseless behaviour... but humans do.
So for me, at least, including some human DNA in the Indominus Rex works to explain some of it's characterisation and abilities. It's not longer *just* a dinosaur, but one that has some certifiable level of human intelligence.

I distinctly remember mass cloning being the big schtick as you would control your own squad of dinosaurs against armies of Injen's own. However there was a recurring character that kept coming up called Primo. He was a human that Injen successfully cloned 3 times and you find him in various states of... sanity. But, I have no idea why nor where the project went because I was like 6 when I played it. I also thought it was just a bit of a humorous parallel about a game from 03 about literally controlling the dinosaurs, militarizing them, and cloning humans winds up being a big theoretic part of the JW trilogy... and nobody has brought it up.
I'm sure there probably really isn't any kind of canon credibility to Dinosaur Battles, I just like to believe that maybe my nostalgia goes deeper than I first thought because to me it looks like Universal retreading old ideas

The opposable thumb was also seen on the Scorpios Rex in Camp Cretaceous, so they were canonically playing with this idea for a long time. I am personally a fan of the idea of human DNA being incorporated into these hybrids. It does feel a bit like 90s science fiction, but in a good way that adds to the alien nature of the hybrids we've seen, adds a bit of creepiness as they can be so different yet familiar at the same time, makes them more complex on the lines of a serial killer as opposed to the more simple animalistic monsters, and it opens up the door to the horrifying thought of human experimentation in the Jurassic Universe as well as having us, the audience, ask ourselves about the ethics of such experiments.
I also agree with how it felt as if they suddenly switched directions for the franchise after Fallen Kingdom. This also appears to have affected Camp Cretaceous after the end of Season 3. It looked as if they were going down one direction for some time, only to suddenly change and go down a different direction after the negative feedback for Fallen Kingdom. Unfortunately, that new direction was the wrong direction. I hope there's a behind the scenes encyclopedia that will explain the development of the new trilogy and Camp Cretaceous so we can see what ideas they originally had.

The fact that a woman did the human cloning on herself and impregnated herself with her clone is the same thing: cloning a human with a DNA sample. The use of a womb rather than a vat changes nothing. The implication remains that the Lockwoods were creeps who fiddled with human DNA in the lab and that's why Hammond cut ties with them. He'd be just as mad at old man Lockwood for covering for his daughter and supporting her that way as he'd be mad at the person who tampered with human DNA directly.
As such, the idea that Wu used human DNA in the Indominus and that this transferred to the Indoraptor still makes perfect sense. It would also contribute to his gradual change in demeanor as he grew more and more guilty with the crimes he had committed against nature. The Indom and the Indo have nothing to do with the conflict in Dominion and Wu needs the trust of the others to fix the locust situation, so he has good reason to continue keeping the secret throughout that film.

The way the animals emote(Indominus methodical killing, Indoraptor smirking at the poachers demise) gives me no doubt that yeah human DNA was put into it what pisses me off is the movies/directors at the time go out of their way to say no thats stupid to their audience yet leave obvious hints that they do put human DNA in them, and even if you did realistically it wouldn't do much mostly up to the brain and regions of potential reasoning(cause thats like we use pig organs, and fish skin for burn victims that doesn't mean where gonna develop attributes like them mentally) or how we cross the genes of spiders into goats so their milk will produce silk, that doesnt mean the goat will eat flies then. I know its a movie I don't mind science fantasy but just go and stated already yeah we got humans in them, instead of gaslighting your audience by confusing them with the whole genetic tampering thing.
    Hints be like
-Maisy and Indoraptor screaming at each other in the museum glass(bloody mary style).
-Blue being trained to understand commands and english to a certain extent beyond dogs.
-Indominus talking to the raptors and getting them to agree with her(I don't care what amount of raptor dna you put in her that still BS)
-Indominus legit planting her tracker like a serial killer waiting.
Like I don't mind the franchise progressing forward, but I still stay with the original JP trilogy.

If you look at the franchise, has been toying with the idea of hybrids and clones since the late 90s and early 2000s, the idea was always there in JW, but the writers proved unsure if that would cause "offense" towards the die-hard fans; I remember from experience that the web was furious at the idea of putting weaponized dinos into the JP4 rumors (which was lightly integrated into JW with the trained Raptors).
With the hybrid dino theme, it kind of blended in, and the idea of human DNA in Indominus and Indoraptor was never mentioned but there was visual evidence there; Same with human cloning.
In the end with JWFK, all those concepts that had been maintained since the 2000s were ignored to give something less "Frankenstein's Monster" with Dominion, which again the die-hard fans hated...you can't please everyone lol.
Anyway, I hope they take up those ideas because they were bizarrely great.

This is not only due to their thumbs, but also their mannerisms & psychology. Constantly in the trilogy & CC, they acted in ways a wild animal wouldn’t, seemingly analyzing their opponents & taking pleasure in kills at a psychopathic level. This was most obvious with the indoraptor, who seemed to enjoy torturing others with fear.

There was an official poster posted by Universal Studios with the anatomy of the indominus and where each attribute was named with the corresponding dinosaur DNA. One of those being the opposable thumbs, (which the poster didn’t have to mention at all, but for some reason, they decided to put it on there). The description of the opposable thumbs said that the scientists were still decoding the DNA of the creature, and the opposable thumbs didn’t have a particular origin. Which, at least to me, makes the whole human hybrid thing more plausible. If it was simply ape or a different primate’s DNA where the opposable thumbs originated, it seems odd that they wouldn’t just say that outright.
Also, during the four-year gap between Fallen Kingdom and Dominion, people were theorizing about Maisie being part raptor, because of how long Lockwood took to create her and that there were some… interesting scenes that made it look that way. From weird shots such as the lab scene, where it almost looks like she’s subconsciously tilting her head, to the face blend scene, where she and the indoraptor’s faces blend, making her look like a human-dinosaur hybrid. (The musical track that plays right after that scene is called “There’s Something About Maisie…” take that as you will.)
Along with the theory about the indoraptor, if indominus had human DNA, the indoraptor most certainly did. That, and J.A. Bayona said in the Jurassic World visual guide that the indoraptor’s arms are very human… which seems like a confirmation. Don’t know if it is, but I still believe to this day, that all three of the hybrids, and Maisie, had some human/raptor DNA in them.

The only issue I had with the Indominus and Indoraptor, personally, was the lack of imagination. They look pretty weird to dinosaur nerds, but the general population doesn't see them as much different from other theropods. The only unique traits they had were the camouflage, opposable thumbs, and intelligence. If they made it look and behave uniquely, like giving it a beak or a prehensile tongue, or showing it kill animals with sadistic glee, that would be unique.
Of course, that would only raise my personal rating of the trilogy slightly. My main issue with the trilogy as a whole is the lack of accuracy. It started to improve as the Jurassic Park trilogy went on (the Rex family, the Raptors having feathers and a complex language, etc), but they decided "Fuck accuracy!" and gave us the scaly CGI abominations.

    • @Bagelgeuse
      @Bagelgeuse Рік тому +4

Agreed. I never liked how restrained the hybrids were. This is a franchise where dinosaurs are genetically modified with DNA from modern animals, and yet the films never flesh them out more. The Indominus rex's camouflage ability is attributed to cuttlefish DNA, but if you look up videos of cuttlefish in action, they and other cephalopods can do more than just camouflage. It would have been so cool if it changed its skin texture to mimic leaves when it meets the ACU team, or rapidly flashed colors to hypnotize the raptors the same way cuttlefish do with prey.
As for accuracy, one the one hand, I'd argue that this is a franchise mainly centered around the hubris of man and genetic engineering, with the dinosaurs being secondary to its main themes. On the flipside, Spielberg and Stan Winston did strive for accuracy in the first film, so I see your point.

Way more than indominus and indoraptor. Remember when they said the asset was bigger than expected in JW ? And how CC tells us that Masrani hated the scorpios and wanted something more dinosauresque ? My point is that with that in mind you can clearly see the evolution of Wu's work on his hybrids all leading to the indoraptor. Still, my favourite "step" in that family remains the I-Rex.

And the little girl Mayonnaise (or whatever her name was) did a perfectly reasonable choice for a little kid to let the dinosaurs out. It's also really good that she's the one to do it because nobody could have a better reason to be sympathetic towards the dinosaurs. I think it's genius. Although the thing with a small collection of dinosaurs escaping a basement and spreading all over the world is absolute bonkers, any helicopter with a high calibre sniper rifle and thermal scope could easily cancel all those dinosaurs within only about a day's hunting, they posed about as much threat to the world as a bunch of unusually aggressive wolves/bears/tigers would. If hundreds/thousands of one-way timeportals would appear across the world leading to our time from various points of the mesozoic era THEN we might've had a cause for concern.

This reminds me a review I saw about the movie. The guy who did it is a writer and really focuses on the points where a movie storytelling fails or has plotholes and also is a big fan of the Jurassic Park/World movies, so he put a lot of effort on their reviews of the saga.
He basically destroyed the plot of Dominion; The two main plot points of it can't stand by themselves with a big suspension of disbelief(bigger than the usual for the Jurassic saga) by the viewer.
First of all, there's no way the less than 50 dinosaurs that scaped from Lockwood Manor can turn in a global issue. Even accepting other people started to clone new dinosaurs, it's less than 5 years after the Loockwood incident.
And the locust plot is based on a useless plan; Biosyn will get exposed as soon as the UN start investigating the incidents and they find there's locusts with prehistoric DNA that, casually, doesn't attack the crops sold by the same company that has the tech needed to clone the prehistoric locust... It would be a really short lawsuit. If Dodgson wants to put the world in a situation of dependency from Biosyn, with all the advanced genetics they control, there's better and more subtle ways to do it.

    HOT TAKE:
The actual secret of the Jurassic World film (the first of that trilogy) was the I-Rex's relation to the military overseeing the park's R&D. Think about it:
    1) The military liaison won't shut up about weaponizing the raptor pack, but _never once_ even pays any kind of attention to the gigantic, genetically-engineered superkiller the park has in a cage. Even when it breaks out, the armed security that responds is not military but private forces hired by the park.
    2) The I-Rex is mentioned to be a "sport hunter" that will kill anything it can catch just because it can, and even did so to its sibling shortly after hatching.... and then, in the middle of a jungle with a veritable buffet of humans, this animal randomly decides that _now_ it's going to communicate with another animal. Why? What makes the pack so special that it suddenly wants to communicate, especially since they're actively hunting it at the time?
    3) Consider the pack itself. Blue, Charlie, Echo, Delta-- with the exception of Blue, thrse correspond with the NATO alphabet. Where's Alpha? And don't say it's Chris Pratt's character, as he asserts in the film itself that his role as alpha is very much adapted thru mutual benefit, not thru actual inborn leadership; submission to him is completely alien to the raptors' instincts, and they'll turn on him given the chance... yet this gigantic horrible beast has them pause.
I think... and feel free to point out if/why/how I am being crazy: I think the I-Rex was not born an I-Rex. I think it was born a full-blooded raptor from the pack's clutch, taken at youth by the military, and subjected to all manner of *highly-illegal* genetic splicing while itnwas alive, which I imagine was very painful and psychosis-inducing for the animal.
This would explain many things about the film (and I'm really giving the writers way too much credit with this), such as why the military liaison seems so disinterested in something that should excite him far more than the raptors. The military illegally funded and backed live genetic manipulation of a borne animal, kept it under wraps to avoid liability, and then silently watched on when it broke loose to observe what it does in a populated area.
It was all part of "the plan" that military leadership seems so fond of deferring when things go wrong.

I admit some of that was cool, but dino human-Hyrbids always strike me as funny, goofy, and odd... When Alan Grant discussed his argument at the dinner table with Hammond and the rest, saying, how can we predict the outcome of humans and dinosaurs suddenly being thrown in the mix together?, never in my wildest fantasies dared I imagine the outcome would be half human and half dinosaur hybrids. It's just absurd, but it happens, in JW Evolution 1, the game on Steam, I remember the basic Triceratops having a human eye, which kinda looked offputting.
The Indomitus Rex and I-raptor having human intelligence is beyond obvious... Indomitus even freaking talks to raptors and outsmarted people several times. The plot of JW needed the Indomitus rex to break free. And in the real world, you can't justify dinosaurs escaping their paddocks in JW's high-tech park... JP also had trapped the animals, until Nedry. So only a weaponized dinosaur could escape and explain how all the other dinosaurs got loose in JW... It was the only dinosaur smart enough to do it...The entire plot of JW was written to explain and justify how by the end of JW3 humanity could be stupid enough to bring dinosaurs to the populated world and let them escape into the wilds...to become permanent breeding residents...No matter how shitty it all really sounds. So there is a true "Jurassic World" now...
And the hybrids had as smart as humans, knowing even how trackers and cameras work, with anti-bullet armored skin that can camouflage and hide from heat-seeking tech.
And in JW lore, the cloned girl was created before JW and at the time of JP, so human cloning and genetic altering had already happened, mixing some human gene with dinosaurs as some freaky interests to see the result would obviously happen, but in a realistic sense, which JP was all about, even as a hook, you'd almost never keep those hybrids alife or show them to the public... If people knew the park they visited illegally created dinosaur-people it would be the worlds biggest scam and JP would be rightfully put to death xD

A theory I have ALWAYS been onboard with, I´d even go so far as to say Henry might´ve even used samples of his own dna if we go with the human dna being used insted of a chimp.
Though I believe it was used to make the creature more intelligent, and the apposable thumbs were just a sideffect to that, similiar to the camoflague ability

    • @rhueoflandorin
      @rhueoflandorin Рік тому

this is assuming that human intelligence isn't already owed (in large part already) to having apposable thumbs (rather than the opposite---that thumbs are a byproduct of intelligence as you say it)....ie: it wouldn't have been POSSIBLE to gain our level of intelligence if we lacked the apposable thumbs. Mostly due to the loss of written language. The other major pre-requisite to human intelligence is SPOKEN language, that, although doesn't DIRECTLY require apposable thumbs to develop... its refinement certainly DID require written language to be developed. Complex and adpatable language capability, and the ability to MAKE and USE tools are fundamental to the development of intelligence.
being a societal / community type species (one that benefits groups over individualism) -> ability to form complex adaptable language -> ability to learn from and teach others -> ability to recognize, fashion and use tools -> ability to delude oneself by ignoring a billion years of evolution that transformed apes into humans that had 2 sexes and genders and that we are biologically different and yet dependent for humanity's survival on the acceptance of that reality. -> death of humanity

I honestly thought the Doc was going to say the Indo had Raptor AND Primate DNA when the group was pressing him for answers on where the Genetic Makeup of the animal came from, not only would that answer the Raptor question on how they would communicate later on but why the Indo was so intelligent that it could literally make a plan to leave false scratch marks along the inclosure and trick them all into opening the pen.
On another note it would make his speech to the Director more compelling as well.
The speech where Woo goes off about how none of the dinosaurs are real, theyre basically genetic monsters and that the director ordered him to make something "Scary" for the park guests so he went off the books to do so.
Also seeing a failure log of test subjects up to the final product would have hit that Wow Factor for everyone waiting for that reveal, seriously how fucked up would that be to see a mutant embryo like the one from Aliens, except instead of a XenoHuman baby its a botched Chimp and Raptor with all the dna patterns Woo mentioned.
Cuttlefish and all, up until its the stable version of the Indominus

Honestly I think the first Dino to have human DNA in it is the JP3 Spino. That Dino felt way to intelligent and malevolent to be just a "regular" carnivore. I mean, just look at the fence scene in that film. It was literally waiting behind the humans and watching them menacingly rather than just mindlessly running at them.

Honestly, I wouldn't be bothered if the films did reveal Dr. Wu included a dash of human DNA into his hybrids just out of curiosity to see what effect it would have on them (which would be most likely his own DNA).

Well also there’s a scene in Jurassic World where they find a bunch of dinosaurs that Indominous had killed but not eaten. Which lead to the conclusion that it was killing for sport, as far as I know the only creature to have ever killed for sport were humans

This would have been a really cool way of representing how each entry in the "World" movies made the dinosaurs further and further from what dinosaurs are both visually and genetically. I liked Dominion and the Jurassic World movies' overarching theme of "coexisting with dinosaurs," but the first movie really does make it feel like combat dinosaurs and other genetic hybrids were going to show up. We still saw those later with the Endoraptor and genetically trained Raptors but it didn't feel like the next big step up from the Indominous Rex.
Cloning was interesting but didn't go too far in Dominion other than giving closure and a sense of purpose to Maisie. It seemed like Dominion had a lot to juggle with dinosaurs across the country (and now whole world), a new threatening company, Dr. Wu and his genetic creations, and bringing back the old characters, so at least one had to sit on the back burner. Definitely feels like they didn't trust Dominion to be able to stand on it's own after Fallen Kingdom given the returning actors and backpedaling on Wu's obsession with genetic hybrids.
Would love to see the Jurassic Park franchise continue forward, but beyond the Netflix show and more theme park rides I don't see anything really happening with the name.

Because I first found your page when the new series of JP/JW movies were first announced, it always felt like the algorithm dictated your content and you had to keep putting out JP videos to get views, and I was really looking forward to eventually getting your views and opinions on other pop culture touchstones.

I always supposed that all the hybrids had some human DNA on them. Those spines in the lab tanks are clearely humanoid. I would have liked some of that as long as they didn't went as far as Alien Resurrection nor those abominations drawn on the infamous concept art that are completely bonkers.

Let us not forget that the I-Rex is said to have chameleon DNA, too. This is how it camouflages itself. And like you said at the end of the video with the chameleon grabbing at the branch, we can say that it likely attributes it's "thumb" to their paws.
