@@BonaparteBardithion I think the main thing that bothers people is that she had the gall to take money for it. Fanworks are a thing we do because we love and appreciate the original, profiting off something that wasn't our own idea is the complete opposite of the respect most fanfiction writers hold for the works they write for. As you said - there's way crazier shit out there. But the authors of those have the sense to KEEP it as fanworks and that's all.
@@sleepysera I don't think it's a problem for authors to convert fanfics into original works, especially when the work has differed enough from the source material that it's barely recognizable. In that way, fanfics can make an excellent first draft. (Or proof of concept, anyway.) The issue is her complete refusal to change anything but the bare minimum. On top of that, it's hypocritical to get on people's case about derivative works when her novel is itself a derivative work.
@@BonaparteBardithion "especially when the work has differed enough from the source material that it's barely recognizeable" That's the key right there. Master of the Universe can VERY clearly be recognized as a Twilight AU fanfic, and there was basically NOTHING changed in it's transition into 50 Shades either. Say about stuff like "After" what you will, but at least they don't read as obvious One Direction fanworks and can stand on their own (even though they still suck).
I honestly still cant believe this series is sold as a “romantic movies” when it’s literally the story of a toxic relationship and a toxic guy who should go to therapy
I mean it also erotica, so it's bound to have toxic relationships. Some fantasies can't be fulfilled, so this is basically a supplement lol. Idk how people would find this hot, but like everyone is different I guess.
It is because the moviemakers thought it was a romance novel - but it is erotica for teengirls. You try taking the plot from a porn and make it into a romance novel without it portraying a toxic relationship
I first heard about this series from some friends/coworkers describing it as “mommy porn.” How it’s so hot and all while maintaining some class. I have no idea what any of them were talking about now knowing what these books and movies are about (and I’m a mommy myself, there is nothing hot about this at all.)
Women telling men they're pregnant in series and then the man just going like: ''Ah, it's all your fault, how could you do this, I'm gonna run away'' acting like the baby is not 50% his dna and he is not one of two people who made the baby makes me mad like wtf?
But the women are allowed to have an abortion, essentially abandoning it? Isn’t it unfair that women are allowed to decide that they don’t want to take care of a child, but men aren’t?
@@indiegala281 Yes but that's not the point. Blaming being pregnant on women is just so wrong in so many ways like,,, who do you think made this baby WITH them douchebag, it's not like women can control being pregnant once it actually happens. I don't even want to gen jnto what pregnancy itself means for the woman. In conclusion: ppl should be always careful when having sex and tALK witch e/o and just stop being dumb honestly 😌
indie gala its the womens right. You have no control over what a women can do to her own body. You are not the one having to carry the baby and give birth with the high risks of damage to your own body that usually happens with most mothers. Also lets take a little look at the gender pay gap, turns out a large percentage of women will not be hired or will lose their job and opportunities for wanting to start a family so no fvcking wonder mate, piss off. If a man wants to start a family with a women he should find someone who is WILLING and also wants to start a family. Theres a reason abortions are only available for a certain time period, its only a clump of cells and hasn’t even developed to have a heart beat yet

@@missimperfectlyfine7 it depends when in the realm of fiction. I sometimes read kinky fics, but they all come with a nice "this shit is not real and is wrong to do" disclaimer. It's Christian that gets freed. The whole series is about him. He had fifty shades of personality fragments, a woman made him go into the dark about himself, and now he's freed of his issues. At least that's the impression I get.
I don't know about the book, but I appreciate that in the movie she said that she'd choose her baby over anyone, including him. He needed to be knocked down a peg.
@@dixiecronin7791 Movie Ana in general is a way better character. Like, still awful, but she has at least a little bit of a mind of her own. Book Ana is a helpless, needy sheepish little thing that withers away as soon as she doesn't breathe the same air as Christian for a minute, while at the same time being ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIED of him in most of her internal monologues. It reads like straight from an abuse victim's mind, the way she is constantly on edge around him, always afraid he will flip out, that she could say or do something wrong, while also being wholly dependent on him in every aspect of her life after just mere DAYS of getting together.
I never actually saw the movies, but I did read the books. I've seen lots of people talk about how dumb and boring the movies are and I realize that most of those people probably haven't read the books. The movies are boring because all the interesting stuff (read kinky) was cut out. When you do that, you're left with nothing.
I feel so bad for the actors on this franchise. They were clearly just getting a paycheck but their careers will always be overshadowed by this movie about a disgustingly toxic relationship that glorifies misogyny and abuse.
True but it's ultimately up to them to chose better roles moving forward to rehabilitate their image. Like Robert Pattinson did, now lot's of people actually respect him as an actor despite the Twilight franchise
I hate how these films confuse sexual tension for "true love" and acceptance. She's trying to fix him, he's controlling, it's not working, they have sex. That is literally all there is to it.
Or they go for a helicopter/private airplane ride. It's mostly a 50:50 ratio between them "fixing" their relationship arguments with sex or with going up in the air.
Just that she married someone without knowing if he ever wants to start a family is crazy. Now if he said "no" what would she do... Sacrifice that part of her life to him just like that.? These are important steps you need to take before you decide to marry, you really need to know what the other person wants and what to expect from them. This only shows (amongst many other things, this sure is one of the smallest problems this relationship has) how little they actually know each other. 🙃 But sure.... that level of reality can't be expected from this movie... Also... when a man tells you that he wants your world to begin and end with him... that's not romantic... that's clingy, egotistic, shows a lack of growth AND a lack of understanding the other person's individuality and need for self prioritisation and it's an overall big ol' RED FLAG. "What is it with watching girls sleep? You got Edward, Christian, Massimo..." If I'm not wrong isn't Christian based off of Edward and Massimo based off of Christian?
The problem is that it just comes out of nowhere. She's sheepish the entire trilogy and then this random burst of wildcat getting territorial happens for no apparent reason at all. So even the scenes that are fun or feel good in this movie come with the bad aftertaste that they really make no sense.
@sleepysera My guess is that it’s to make Anna look like she’s gotten stronger and more independent, but really it just makes her look as weak as ever. You’re right that Anna’s still as timid as ever, but she found someone she felt she had total control over (some other woman in her employ who she could just fire if things didn’t work out) and lashed out at her. It seems like Anna is still afraid of standing up for herself for real, so she found a strawman enemy she could easily tear down as a way to make herself feel stronger.
I really appreciate how you pointed out that Christian had an equal part in the pregnancy - where Christian was getting mad at Ana for missing her shot, and the added commentary about how she has to go through all these side effects just so he gets to do what he wants however he wants. Overall, I love your videos, especially when you pick apart really horrible movies. Keep doing you!
LittleLion21 Those contraceptive shots and pills really mess up women’s bodies and raise the risk to ovarian and cervical cancer, but as long as the men feel good who cares, right?
@@barbara9315 If both partners agree on using that form of contraception it's fine, and it's justified to expect the one who uses it to keep up with it (or notify their partner if they want to stop, so a different form of contraception can be used instead then). I can't tell my boyfriend it's fine to have sex without condoms because I'm on the pill when I'm not, that's on me. Of course, in the case of these books/movies, the shots were forced on Ana by him because he doesn't like wearing condoms, so f*ck him; she never freely consented to using that form of birth control in the first place.
@@barbara9315 Hormonal contraception actually decreases the risk of ovarian cancer, which is a big plus since that kind of cancer can't be found with a routine screening and has an high mortality rate. Cervical cancer is almost always caused by HPV (a virus). Hormonal birth control users have slightly higher rates of cervical cancer because they tend to use condoms less frequently, so they're more likely to contract an high-risk strain of HPV. People need to be aware that even if they are on the pill, using condoms is necessary or strongly recommended in certain situations. But blaming hormonal BC because it doesn't protect against HPV and other STIs is like blaming condoms because they don't regulate periods or treat acne.

It's really fucked up that Ana so readily agreed with him and doesn't even add the inclusion of their future child/children. She's not only coddling his controlling nature but comforting _him_ while she's the one lying in the hospital bed bruised and beaten. She could've had a miscarriage for fuck's sake, but go ahead Christian, let your injured pregnant wife comfort and reassure _you!_
Reminded me of a book named Verity that traumatized me, where the woman was so obsessed with her husband she didn't care at all about her children and even tried to abort them herself so he would care about her only, only here instead of Ana the crazy psycho would be Christian
Well he made sure there was nothing else she had to care about for the most part 😏 He pretty much separated her from her friends and family, multiple times forbade her to go see them until she stopped asking, bought her a company so she didn't have to try and have a career, and he sure as hell tried to make sure no pesky offspring would exist that could ruin it either. Failed on the last one, but see how well he took that...
So this whole franchise boils down to ; Weird flirting> creepy ass situation> Anna not seeing giant red flags> kinky scene> chessy dialogue > sad montage> romantic montage Repeat
To be fair, in the movie he's kinda right, they agreed on her getting the shots to avoid a pregnancy and she simply "forgot" to, which is extremely irresponsible, unfair to him and a disgusting form of trapping, really. He's absolutely justified in both blaming her and not being okay with the pregnancy. In the books though, it is very specific that they DIDN'T agree on a form of birth control - Christian forced the shots on her because he doesn't like wearing condoms. Then HE drags her halfway across the globe and keeps her constantly busy so she has barely any chance to even get her next shot.
It's not even good smut. Not even average either. A grown woman describing her lady parts as "down there" and her lust as "her inner goddess doing a flicflac over the sofa" or whatever is not sexy.
@@sleepysera
I don't think it's a problem for authors to convert fanfics into original works, especially when the work has differed enough from the source material that it's barely recognizable. In that way, fanfics can make an excellent first draft. (Or proof of concept, anyway.)
The issue is her complete refusal to change anything but the bare minimum. On top of that, it's hypocritical to get on people's case about derivative works when her novel is itself a derivative work.
@@BonaparteBardithion "especially when the work has differed enough from the source material that it's barely recognizeable"
That's the key right there.
There are fanfics out there that are so good actually. Way better even than other actual published authors.
He does go to therapy
It is because the moviemakers thought it was a romance novel - but it is erotica for teengirls. You try taking the plot from a porn and make it into a romance novel without it portraying a toxic relationship
I first heard about this series from some friends/coworkers describing it as “mommy porn.” How it’s so hot and all while maintaining some class. I have no idea what any of them were talking about now knowing what these books and movies are about (and I’m a mommy myself, there is nothing hot about this at all.)

True but it's ultimately up to them to chose better roles moving forward to rehabilitate their image. Like Robert Pattinson did, now lot's of people actually respect him as an actor despite the Twilight franchise
Also the director shot this like a daily soap. The way they deliver their lines is infuriating.

That just sounds like what they'd said. He's afraid of getting dumped for a baby - like the division of attention doesn't go both ways and that love is a finite resource.
@@BonaparteBardithion Which, to some degree it is, if you measure it in time and attention spent. A baby WILL take time and attention away from him to some degree.
Of course, the idea that she has to devote 100% of her love and devotion to only him is fucked up in the first place.
"Where should I keep all my Yu-gi-Oh Cards?"
That hits way too close to home...

Same. All I could think of when he said that was the Brie Larson meme, "Is that a personal attack or something".
"I want your world to begin and end with me."
"It does."
(redundant comment of the century) That's unhealthy.
Well he made sure there was nothing else she had to care about for the most part 😏
He pretty much separated her from her friends and family, multiple times forbade her to go see them until she stopped asking, bought her a company so she didn't have to try and have a career, and he sure as hell tried to make sure no pesky offspring would exist that could ruin it either. Failed on the last one, but see how well he took that...
@@sleepysera omg i that's true😮 *TOXIC ASF!!!*
So this whole franchise boils down to ; Weird flirting> creepy ass situation> Anna not seeing giant red flags> kinky scene> chessy dialogue > sad montage> romantic montage
Repeat

horrifying how this movie really said ‘it’s the woman’s fault for getting pregnant’
Abi Da Menace true but even if getting mad and disappointed is stupid because it still takes two to make bebe
Why is Sawyer look better than Christian in this movie?
The movies might be terrible, but at least the guys are nice to look at.
I even sensed more chemistry between Ana and Sawyer than with Christian 💀💀
LMAOOOO I thought Sawyer was Christian until she said his name. why do they have the same features lol
@@flxwercxrpse1871 IKR! in 30 seconds they proved they were a more interesting couple than the main one lol

Alex: How does this book sell more than fourteen copies?
Me: Sado devil's tango 😂😂
It's not even good smut. Not even average either. A grown woman describing her lady parts as "down there" and her lust as "her inner goddess doing a flicflac over the sofa" or whatever is not sexy. You have to be the type of person who has never in their life picked up a bad grocery store "romance" book, much less seen actual porn, to think the smexy times in 50 Shades are hot 😒
Dude I've read better smuts in Ao3 with a better storyline
Bc how it introduces BDSM to women but!
The same people who glorify it also refuses to watch porn with BDSM
Ana running away with her swoon-worthy bodyguard would've been a better storyline than this
ngl, thought the title card said "Fifty Shades Fred" at first.
Same, but i guess that would be an actually good movie
My favorite Scooby Doo spin off
Same
At least that would have been a twist
Same😆😆😆😆
The best part of fifty shades freed: Hailee Steinfeld and BloodPop’s song “Capital Letters.” DONT punish the great artists just cause the movie was awful, cause the music was great!
Great music is the only good thing that the series has given us.
I agree! I thought it was just me.
Yaaaaasss
Payton yes they had great songs😭
I love that song so much! ❤️
It should be called *"Fifty Shades of Ana's color blindness"* since she can't see the red flags.
Two kids who grew up in foster care and how they both turned out different would be an interesting idea. However it seems like they actually turned out the exact same except one has money
