Actually. Peeta and his brothers never really did have a good relationship. Also, to me it seems like Peeta was a cast out by his brothers so he had to fend for himself.
Haymitch’s problem was that before Katness and Peta, he was the only tribute to win from district 12. All the kids he had to mentor since he won (as a teen boy himself) he watched die in the arena. He ends up with a heavy drinking problem as a result. As per usual, the books went into more detail about poor Haymitch... 😆
Technically he is the second winner for District 12, but you are right in that he was the only one they had to manage 23 years worth of tributes on his own, as well as the loss of both his family and gf added to the alcoholism
I personally believe there were 2 Victor's before haymitch, I believe one male and one female, I won't talk about the female as she is in the new book that came out earlier this year but I believe there was a male tribute before as I think in the second book talking about haymitchs (hope I spelled that right) games they talked about an old man who mentored them.
Peetas crush on katniss was definitely real. In the book he was like “I remember the dress you wore of the first day on kindergarten, the song you sang , how you did your hair and the exact dandelion you looked at.” And katniss was like “You’re a great actor!”
Katniss’s pov in the first book was so funny like she was on survival mode the entire time and kept thinking whatever Peeta did was a strategy like the poor boy was crying because he was going to the hunger games and she was like “This must be a strategy to garner sympathy from the audience, yes I see right through him, he cannot fool me!” And then when he betrayed the careers for her she was like “damn I wonder why he would betray the careers”
Katniss isn't supposed to have a bow, because hunting is actually extremely illegal. The Capital is supposed to have complete control over available resources, even if it means not providing enough food for everyone. In truth, they want the lowest in society to be starving and suffering. Also, the Capital wouldn't want the workers to have hunting weapons which could be used to fight and overthrow their rule. However, Katniss is able to hunt and trade in the black market, even dealing directly with the police who are supposed to stop her, because everyone in 12 is starving and wants the meat. In book 2, this changes, the "peacekeepers" are replaced, and we see what happens when they enforce the laws against hunting.
At least you read the books. The movies are so weird compared to the books, of course they did some things good but most stuff in the movie are not supposed to be like that. Oh, and Peeta or Gale?
@@mb.sj72 Peeta hands down every time. Sure he gets brain washed and killed some people but Gale KNEW about Primrose going to the war zone to get blown up.
I know that in the film Katniss' love for Peeta seems artificial especially in the interview after winning the Hunger Games but in context of the book it makes sense because Katniss really didn't love Peeta it was really all about survival. People focus too much on the relationship aspect of the book and films and not about the corruption and hunger that was really the main focal point of the hungers games. This review is a good example of that.
yeah I read the books within the last couple years (also hadn't seen the movies) and I wasn't sure if they would be good since I'm picky about what I read and figured it would be a cheap romance thing because that's kinda how it's marketed but I was shocked by how good they were. I loved how the whole focus of the story isn't on the games but how the characters present themselves to the audience. I was also surprised how cold and competent Katniss was as a protagonist and I loved it.
Katniss was unablee to love, as she was obsessed with dying. Everything she did was just an excuse to die. She needed to sacrifise herself for her death to be unquestionable, that's why she came right away with the Berry thing and was perfectly cold headed about that decision. When she gets almost burnt to death she felt relieved, and was shocked to regain consciousness. The last chapter, when talking about their following years, she is so apathetic and emotionless because she had tried her best to be able to die, and she ended up being the one surviving, so she just would let life go on and make Peeta happy, because she didn't want to torment him more than he was... just with her numb heart day after day.
And the focus on the relationship instead of the dystopia is especially ironic since that's what the capitol focuses on and what's basically critisized by the books.
I only began watching the films last year lol. Was it actually that common that people were misinterpreting the ending that way? I have also only seen the movies once but I always understood that Katniss and Peeta didn't actually romantically love each other yet at this point. They were just trying to sell that idea to the audience (in the film) so they'd think that the real reason they tried to commit a double suicide was out of love for each other and not as an act of protest/defiance against the hunger games. Basically, they were trying to protect themselves.
The reason why Katniss going in was such an important event is because she was saving her sister and she was the first ever volunteer from 12. The same reaction wasn't there for Peeta since it was literally just a normal reaping, no volunteers. Just a random pick
The book goes much more in depth with the whole Peeta Katniss situation. The whole tragic love story thing was made up by Haymitch and Peeta to get sponsors. Throughout the whole game Katniss thinks that they’re putting on a show, and she is kind playing a role while Peeta isn’t. We later go on to find out that Peeta is in fact in love with her, and we hear a lot more about why and how they know each other. I just wish that they had focused more on Peeta’s character in the movies, because he is actually really interesting, and there’s a lot of reasons for the things he does, that I don’t think they’re good at illustrating in the movie.
I agree I was disappointed whith movie peeta because book peeta is like my second favorite character and they just didn't give him enough personality in the movie because in the books he is just amazing in my opinion something the movies weren't able to capture well
Now I just wanna state that I read all three books before seeing any of the movies, and I thought Peetas character was so annoying in the books, Suzanne Collins wrote the annoying character properly looking back in retrospect. He’s that kid who’s better off and doesn’t understand katniss’s struggle as well as the audience sympathizes with, but he’s got his own complexity. Long story short 12 year old me was edgy and thought gale was better but peetas a good character
@@imoenbradley3351 I don’t have anything against Gale’s character I just felt like he came off too strong. Like she never seemed really interested in him. I feel like her and Peeta fit together better because they had that special connection, because of everything they went through together. I also don’t really get the feeling that she was really in “love” with any of them. But it’s been so long since I read it so it might not be true. I just don’t feel like the brought Peeta’s character to justice in the movies. His only character trait was being in love with Katniss. Of course that’s also a huge part of the book, but we don’t really get to see the fact that his dad didn’t love his mom, that he would get beaten up and that his parents really didn’t show any interest in him.
why is no one talking about that at 4:40 Peeta has full on tears running down his face while Katniss is stoic, never noticed that but its a great detail to contrast their two characters. MY POOR BABY PEETA :((((
The reason everyone kinda flipped when Prim-Rose was picked(I know this from the books) is because she's 12 and many people would feel bad for the younger kids who had gotten picked. In the books they explained how more papers with your name are added each year so the likely hood of a 12 year old getting picked is a lot less then an 18 year old. Thats also why for Peeta it was less of a reaction because he's older and had a much higher likely hood of being picked. These movies talk a bit about the loss of innocence and it shows how people are more uncomfertable with an 12 year old getting picked then a 18 year old
@LAURA MARIA MOTTA RODRIGUEZ Yah they want some one honestly like Katniss or as well fed as Peta. They want a chance at winning so 12 small child is not good
@@auto1ooxd572 thats true unless you sign up for food rations (tessera) for you and your family but Katniss wouldn't let Prim get tessera because Katniss is getting triple (katniss, prim and her mum) and wanted prims chance of being in the raffle/hunger games small as possible so she only had 1 entry in the raffle sorry its so long- but yeh
I actually think that The Hunger Games has one of the better movie adaptations of books out there. They worked better than the Harry Potter movies for me, maybe cause there was a lot happening in the hp books related to the story, where as The Hunger Games focused more on the atmosphere, and relations between the districts and Capitol
I honestly thought the movies were slightly better. We really do benefit so much from just not being in Katniss' head all the time. Not saying it didn't work in the book, It just would not have worked on film, and in my opinion it was more interesting that way.
I still wish we could see the game haymitch survived because it was a truly brutal and sad game. If I remember right he had feelings for katniss’s mom’s sister and he wanted to help her win the game but she died and by the end of the games he was practically holdin his intnestines to keep them from fallin out . After that game his alcoholism started to try to forget and to not feel anything watchin kids year by year be sent to their death
she wasn’t katniss’s mom’s sister and haymitch didn’t have feelings for her. she was the sister of the mayor’s daughter’s mom. haymitch already had a girlfriend in district 12
Katniss’s mothers friend, I wished we could’ve seen that but I’d say it was cut out to lower the rating to 12. He also didn’t have feelings for her but he did have a girlfriend who was killed by the capitol alongside his mother and I think his brother
The reason no one freaked out to Peeta getting picked or volunteered for him is cause that was kinda the point of why it was so dramatic that she volunteered. No one does that in district 12, not in a long time
@@Former_Halo_Fan this is the way it was done in the books, but in the books there's a lot more explanation and it works better because you are reading Katniss's reaction to Peeta being the one she has to go into the arena with
I think peetas background also play into a lot of how no one (not even his family) even cared too much about peeta. His mom literally beats him all the time and told peeta that only katnis will win the hunger games. Plus he was part of the upper class inside district 12 and thus was perceived to be more privileged and is less sympathised compared to katniss. Peeta's family who runs the bakery isnt very generous either as seen from how the family would rather throw away burnt bread than give it to the poor who are starving. As opposed to katniss who hunts and sells it at the market, her whole family is known to help out with injured people and much more well known to be a kind family in town. The whole book has shaped katniss and peeta a strong contrast between each other which is very different from other YA sincr the female lead is the attractive/more desired one rather than the male lead. I do get why a lot of people dont see Peeta as a worthy male lead because Peeta's character require a lot of later details to slowly piece back his background and even then people might not sympathize with him because of his privilege.
This just proves that the books are a thousand times better (at least for me). Like, in the books you really get depth into what is Katniss thinking and how complex being a tribute is.
I agree. The movies are okay but they don’t do the books justice at all. Collins built such an interesting and complex world with amazing characters and the movies just weren’t able to capture it that well.
I do like the books better, but one thing I appreciate about the movies (and why I think of the books and the movies as a unit together) is that they gave a much better sense of scope and scale. What we lost in the intimate thoughts behind Katniss's decisions, we gained in things like being able to see the Gamemakers in the game room, the reaction of District 11 to Katniss's relationship with Rue, etc. Those little glimpses made the 3rd book feel like much less of a genre whiplash.
The torture on Katniss in the book is extremely diluted in the movie. Also, I think it's one of best YA romance novels despite all the bloodshed and gore. Because, love and relationships hell of complicated. Never smooth sailing also young people stupidly emotional. For a young person it is as close to great romantic read as it gets.
Yes Omg I loved Hunger Games and Divergent. I’m currently reading Matched, another YA dystopian novel, but I just can’t get into it like I did the other two, hopefully it gets better
And also the book says that a lot of kids from the Career districts actually VOLUNTEERED for the games because they've been training to do this for so long, and obviously the ones who volunteer look like they're in a lot better shape than otherwise
For some reason, ever since I first read the Hunger Games, Haymitch has been my favorite character, and that never changed. I love him so much and idk why
The Hunger Games. A movie about children killing each other on live television. A great classic cheery Christmas movie. Edit: OMG TY FOR ALL OF THE LIKES!
I mean, that part was mainly action and not nearly as good as it was in the books. So I wouldn't say he left a lot of important stuff out. Other parts, he probably just couldn't think of a joke for the moment. He realizes that most are here for his comical observations. Not to watch him watch a movie.
Yea he usually does that... It probably helps to not spoil the movie. Like, yea he talks about the full movie... But still, you don't feel like you've seen the whole movie after the video
@Lilly Carn I think the first movie is good but the rest is bad And that peta guy is just an burden like katniss just keep carrying him trought thw movie I don't understand why katniss fell in love with him
Man I just gotta say way she volunteers for tribute and the sheer emotion depicted from her is absolutely amazing and you can genuinely feel it. Seen never doesnt make me choke up. Despite movie itself being overall average at best
The thing is, a lot of the comments are explaining certain things from the book that makes some parts of the movie make sense. But the point of a movie is that it should be able to explain everything itself apart from the book. So Alex nitpicking about certain things make sense because it’s not explained in the movie and he’s never read the books (I’m assuming). And even if he had, he’s only commenting on the movie.
I liked the movies better than the books (I watched them first. Also I watched from an adult perspective that might make a difference analytically). And I completely understood plots/subplots by the end of the trilogy. What wasn’t explained in the first movie, I knew it would be revealed at some point in the other 2 if it was important. Cinema doesn’t reveal everything all at once otherwise it would be too long or seemed rushed. Also it needs to have enough action & dialogue to keep the audience engrossed. Many times creators have to cut some things or take creative license with other things.
@@Taewills Okay, that’s great for you, but not everyone is the same nor do they perceive or understand the same things as everyone else. I’m just saying (as someone who read the books and watched the movies), there are some things in the movie that are just there with no explanation because it’s sort of implied that the viewer had read the book. Another good example of this would be the live action Mulan. They were banking on the fact that most people had seen the original cartoon and would use that as a part of the viewing experience of this new version/adaptation.
Childhood? The Panem-movies aren't that old. I remember that I've watched the second part in a cinema on a school trip and that was apparently around 2013/2014. Do Teenage-years count as childhood?
@@r4nd0mguy99 i read the First Book When i was twelve ... I guess that counts 😅 the movies are kind of connected to the world/ storyline I experienced as a kid
I feel like the movies are rather meant to be entertaining and having a lot of action while the books are focusing more on the characters and their relations... but I guess that's how most movies and books are made. I do think you miss a big part if you only watch the movies without reading the books cause they explain so many things that couldn't be done in the movies :(
@@ludvigwintherpoulsen4265 I agree with the movie more. If they did everything perfectly this would have turned into a series. They just covered the major events
Yeah. I think films and novels are different mediums on their own but there are times when authors didn't like the films for the inaccuracies and changes that affected the book's entire points. Take a look at how Stephen King disapproved Stanley Kubrick's _The Shining,_ or Roald Dahl hated the adaptation of _Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory._
Katniss would protect prim till the end and then eat nightlock when it came down to the two of them. And a rue and prim friendship along the way maybe...!!
2:26 ok so this scene in the movie was NEVER actually explained... which I thought was really weird because it was an amazing way of foreshadowing future events in the books. Basically, a girl and boy were running from the Capital (Obviously illegal) and the ship was chasing them. The boy was killed with a spear and the girl was captured and taken prisoner. Later on in the movie, the same girl is shown serving food to Katniss. Her tongue is now cut out and she is unable to speak and basically made a slave. So if I remember right them running away was the author's way of giving us a glimpse of what eventually happens with Katniss & Peeta throughout the series (They are always running from the Capital). The death of the boy was foreshadowing Rue's death. (They died the same way & in later books, her death becomes something Katniss often has visions and nightmares about and is a big part of her character growth) The girl being taken prisoner, having her tongue cut out and made a slave. (Throughout the book series, Katniss feels as though she is constantly a pawn doing things for the benefit of others, she's never fully in control) That's all I just thought it was weired they cut out such a good scene...
amazing analysis. I loved the books and I think that the movies cut out some rlly important scenes or didn.t stress those scenes enough. The books showed the horror of the hungergames way better and some of the challenges they had to deal with were just sadistic (like the beasts they had to fight in the end which looked like the dead players). Also I was kinda disappointed in the outfits during their preperation time before the games. They stressed how different they were from past district 12 contestors and how big the contrast between their life in district 12 and the life of the people in the capital (idk if thats the right term, I just know the german translation). The books were so dark. Just the last scene, were she wonders how she will have to tell her kids that they are playing on graves... it haunted me for months. Kinda a rambly comment, sorry 😂
@@biobitch7985 Wow I'd forgotten about the beasts having the faces of the dead tributes. I wish they'd been included in the movies but considering the young fanbase that may have been a bit much.
I agree, the movies were still pretty good but it was sad how they left out quite a few important details like how prim getting picked was such a shock and was so unlikely. But amazing elaboration. I did find it very deep and meaningful in the books for that whole capital ship chasing the boy and girl
It really wasn't a big deal for Primrose to get picked. What made it dramatic is that District 12 literally NEVER had a volunteer in all of its history, unlike all the other districts. Siblings never volunteered for each other in the past, which is why Peeta being called out was mostly glossed over (except by Katniss). Also, the younger the tribute the less likely they are to survive, so when you see a 12 year old get chosen as opposed to a 16 year old you're basically like, "Okay, you're dead."
Primrose was a decently big deal getting picked because of the slim chances of her actually getting picked, turning 12 (Prim's age in the first movie) your name is only on one raffle ticket. People generally feel worse for the younger once getting picked so thats why its a decently big deal.
Holy fuck.... ur mindset. It definitely is a big deal for a preteen 12 yr old to get picked over someone older, even in a fictional story. Yea, the volunteering first time in history thing is a factor to, but a kid who just turned 12, is a fucking big deal. It's more than "okay, you're dead" it's "holy fuck, this kid doesn't deserve this, just like the other kids, but this kid is too young, it's horrendous".
The film's editing and camerawork is very documentary like and I think this was the point because of the fact that the film is very raw and real in the district scenes and in the games there's lots of uncomfortable closeups. It's almost wartime like as well with it's shaky camera which is part of the point considering that it is set 74 years after a Rebellion in a post apocalyptic soviet.
The Hunger Games is one of the few movies or books with a love triangle or romantic relationship being as big a part of the story as it is that I actually enjoy, and that's because of how interesting the idea behind it is. Katniss and Peeta's relationship was purely out of necessity, they faked it to survive, but as the tension grew they weren't sure how much they could trust each other, what was truth and what was lies. Katniss constantly switched her opinion of Peeta. I think it had its weak points, and maybe I have some problems with forced relationships ending up working out, but it was so interesting that I can't help but like it. I really like Katniss as a protagonist in the books and I found the games themselves really well-written and emotionally intense. Personally the second book is probably my favorite, which is rare for me. Finnick is one of my favorite characters, and I can't believe how I just flipped 180 degrees on him: I went from mistrusting him with a passion and really hoping Katniss would just kill him at first to (spoilers for the third book) crying over his death. Overall, I can definitely take criticism of this series, but it's one of my favorites, and I don't care what yall say, but the movies just didn't do the books justice. I didn't hate them, they do a better job as adaptions than a lot of movies ig, and the music/editing was pretty strong, but the characters just aren't as strong to me, and they're an essential part of the books.
They faked it but Peeta never really did. His emotions were true from the start, it was Katniss who faked it. Although, by book 2 she was definitely in love and it made the 3rd book so much more heartbreaking. I also agree the 2nd is the best book. But honestly, people say the movies didn't do them justice, and I guess that's true in some ways, but realistically how much more could they have put in them. The movies were long as it is, I think they did a very good job, the movies actually made me love the books even more. I mean, I love Suzanne Collin's writing, she's great. But she writes a lot and for movies, it's just unnecessary to go into smaller less important plotlines. Also, I have to say, let's be honest, the first movie was not good compared to the other 3, I'm glad they hired francis Lawrence as a director. He did sooooo much better. But anyways, Idk U watch the movies A LOT, they hold a special place in my heart in terms of memories and everything. And I reread the books probably more than I should also, but hey, I truly love these books more than anything else I've ever read. ALSO, quick final side note: has anyone read the ballad of songbirds and snakes?????? It was so good, I finished it within like 3 days after it came out. I could not put it down, I can't wait for the movie
@@leilam.g.1875 I get your points about the movies, I'm just a book person myself. And no, I haven't gotten around to reading it yet... I haven't heard a lot about it so wasn't sure if it was worth a read. Don't want another cursed child. As for Peeta, I do think he was genuine, but masked that truth by claiming it was all for the cameras, probably to cope with the rejection. I'm sure he was as confused as Katniss at times.
In the books Gale used traps to find rabbits and Katniss traded her father bow (after he died cuz it was too big for her) for Gales knowledge of traps and they then became besties
the scene where she fires an arrow into the elites' viewing booth during the archery test ticks me off, because it implies that those in power NEVER BOTHERED to put up some defense in case someone would try and assassinate them during one of the tests
Yeah probably because they think that the people down their weren’t good enough to kill them, and people from the career districts that are good enough actually respect the capital so they wouldn’t hurt them
@@Nina-cv8ko movies should at least cover parts of the books that would help people understand, like what's happening in the story. So, technically it's not the person's fault if they just watched the movie and not understand some things since not everyone is going to bother reading the books
Not putting any defense up is a power move on its own. Like, look at us, we are the powrful ones and we fear nothing. Especially not a few peasants. And of course no one would be stupid enough to actually doing something. That could result to you and your whole family getting tortured and killed.

Say what u want about Jennifer Lawrence, but that girl can ACT. When she's volunteering as tribute it sounds SO real it's scary. The hunger games is such a masterpiece words itself just won't do it justice. It's art. I'll never get bored of it ever it's honestly unmatched.
yessss there are so many scenes in the movies where my jaw is on the ground with jens acting. and i’ve seen the hunger games movies at least six times and i’m still not bored, it’s truly incredible
Very true, but I gotta say it and people won’t agree with me on this but I feel like several scenes are over-acted. It’s just too much and took me out of the film. I adore Jennifer Lawrence tho
I’m reallyyyy obssesed with the hunger games so I’ve seen the behind the scenes of this many of times and they say one minute she’s laughing her head off but as soon as they start recording she immediately stops and is in character straight away
Dude, why is it difficult to comprehend that a 12 year old getting picked to fight to the death is more shocking than a 16 year old? It still sucks, but it's more shocking when it's just a preteen. Also, nobody panicked for Prim except Katniss. You know, her SISTER? The rest of the town was just like "Oh that's a tragedy. Anyway, moving on".
Fun fact the hover craft scene was actually a memory in the book when two kids from the district were running away and got cought and one ended up being an avox(a person who can't speak because the capital cut there tong out
@LAURA MARIA MOTTA RODRIGUEZ yah i thing these movies would be so much bettter if they had katniss do a voiceover to show what shes thinking cause a lot of things didnt get explained enough(or at all) in the movies when they are right in your face in the books
All I can say *deep inhale* : READ THE BOOKS! They are soo much better than the movies and I'm not someone who always says that. Every moment in the books lost all their colors and depth when it was shown in the movies. Everything makes more sense when you read the books - the character's reactions and motivations, the politics behind everything. For example effie, she is brainwashed like all the other rich people, she REALLY truly believes it's an honor to participate in the games and it's somehow written that well that you can understand her. But slowly she looses her naive view when the story progresses and is totally changed in the last book. Oh and katniss isn't portrayed as a heroine, she makes selfish choices, gets more and more traumatized, basically looses her sanity. The books made me cry and think about morals and society. It's not a soppy Lovestory. The ending is realistic and not too fairytaily. I really recommend it. Edit: I didn't write this to criticise the video. Just as a tip for people who read this

Recycle some of the animation. Doesn't need to be wholly unique everytime. The wheel was invented moons ago, drink a glass of wine and enjoy the fruits of your labor
There's a bunch of UA-camrs that use a series of avatars they commissioned from someone else, and it's just like a long string of reaction gifs, and it works alright. Sprinkle a bunch of those in between a handful of unique animations for a video, and no one will really mind.
@@annana6098 I sure as hell wouldn't mind more recycled animations - even his older stuff is still great and like you said, other UA-camrs with animated avatars have been quite successful using and reusing and rereusing the same set of animations for their vids so it's not like there isn't precedent. Heck, he's been doing that more or less for as long as I've been watching and no one's complained that I know of.

i think so too the movie is so good in my opinion and i love the idea but i think the whole katniss-peta relationship is so made up and not......genuine?!
y'all are missing the point... the movie hammed up the romance just like the capitol did to make The Hunger Games more entertaining. It's supposed to be super meta, the book is not about romance at all. People who just see the romance are missing the entire point of the book and are literally behaving like Capitol citizens... it's supposed to show us that we are no different from them.
@@ssofia5736 One of Katniss and Petaa's shipping names actually is Katpee I always remember this fact at the worst possible moments and just start laughing
Okay I don’t know why nobody talks about this but in the move Katniss gives prim the pin and says it has good luck but when prim gets chosen and Katniss volunteers prim give her the pin and says that she need the good luck but I how much good luck does it really have because you just got chosen to compete in the hunger games your first year you were in the reaping
As being the biggest Hunger Games fan I have to say that the first movie in the franchise is my least favorite. When adapting the book to the movie they changed things that made absolutely no sense. Especially on how Katniss got her mockingjay pin making the pin lose it’s deep meaning. I also hated what the first movie did with Peeta’s character. Peeta was actually very interesting and compelling character in my opinion. He was funny, charming and great at manipulating the capitol and careers to help Katniss and himself in the games. They made him look really weak in the movie though and they made the relationship between him and Katniss weak and even more forced. In the book, Peeta and Katniss had great compatibility and would laugh with each other before and in the hunger games. Which makes it extremely hard for both main characters as they will have to kill each other. I really like that dynamic as it brings even more tension and interest to their relationship. Though in the movies they make Katniss seems like she almost hates Peeta by almost completely ignoring him before they enter the games and during the games when she starts shushing him when he’s trying to talk to her. Not only that they dumbed down the bread scene with Peeta and Katniss making Peeta seem like a a-hole to Katniss when in the books you absolutely adore Peeta for helping save Katniss from starvation. Also I completely forgot how the movie just forgot about Peeta LOSING a leg like in the book! Plus the editing is very peculiar in the first movie. There is strange jump cuts in some scenes and shaky cameras. I'm glad for the rest of the three movies they had a new director that made the cinematography and editing better. Also fixing Peeta’s character and making him more like how he was in the book. Nonetheless you gotta read the books. They are amazing and if you enjoy the movie and read the books, you will not be able to put the book down *In my rightful opinion as the books go into depth of things so much better.
Especially how they changed the ending. The book's ending shows how truly alien and terrifying the Capitol is. With technology at levels that might as well be magic, in comparison to the rest of the world.
I thought I was the only crazy one who thought that. I still like the first movie but they turned into an action movie without the depth of the book. The main theme of the first book was survival and poverty. Katniss is also meant to be super thin and tiny, shorter than almost every tribute and even though I really love Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss, she’s too pretty for the Katniss. Also, the movie felt rushed to me. If I didn’t read the books first, I’d probably be confused. Fortunately, the sequels improve on that a lot
It's sad that they cut out Madge but it does make sense, with limited time adding in new people can just be confusing, especially if they will only be in one scene.
@@carter_lovejoy and that movie was basically a rip off of the Greek Myth of Theseus and the Minotaur, not everything has to be original, but that doesn't mean you can't make the concept work there's a reason more people have heard of the Hunger Games than Battle Royale

@@Jarysaru yes absolutely! Like the concept was so, truly interesting and even the main love interest being her mentor was pretty decent. It just wasn’t as well executed as it could have been 🤷🏻♀️
The hunger games was inspired by the labyrinth in Greek mythology where young children had to go in and survive a Minotaur in athens offered as tribute like Theseus
Except there it was a sacrifice to Minotaur to save the nation. Here it's just show where strong trained kids murder weak scared kids and parents don't begin a mutiny???

For real! I love The Hunger Games series. I though agree though that the first movie had some moments where I went wut...the book was way better but I guess that goes for mostly every book to movie adaptions.
I mean, you have to suspend a lot of disbelief to enjoy it. The worldbuilding falls into the category of "falls flat on its face if you really think about it."
Watching this makes me realise just how complicated the films and books are. The intrigue is pretty cool. About how the citizens of the capital are just as deceived as those in the districts. How effie feels similar to the way haymitch feels but she shows it differently. How katnis didn't actually eat the Berries for peeta. How suffocating it was to pretend in front of everyone thay they were in love. How she felt even worse knowing for peeta, it wasn't a lie at all.. There are a lot of intricacies that make it very interesting. I also liked how the themes are based off of the Roman empire. Including the names of capital citizens.
i read the books otoo long ago, what do you mean by she didnt take the berries because of peeta? wasnt it so she could save both of them instead of just herself? or do you mean it's more to do with her incapability to kill someone rather than peetas life itself?
@@Sarikalol nope. She did it as a middle finger to the capital. She wanted to not give them what they wanted. So she rebelled by not giving them a winner. The Berries were literally in their mouths when they told them there were too winners. And katnis was pretty selfish in book one (apart from her sister). She didn't care for peeta at all
I feel liked you skimmed over some of the most important parts, like how the 11 she got was to make her a target for firing an arrow at the judges, and how they were really just trying to deny the capital from having a victor in the end by eating the poison berries, and you didn’t even talk about Rue. Most of the points you talked about were all intentional to show you how messed up the capital is, not just randomly thrown in with no meaning. I just really like these movies/books and I just want to defend them a bit 😅 great video though, I definitely think some parts could have been acted or filmed better!
I never knew that’s why she got an 11! I didn’t think that because of the scene in snows garden where the head game maker is saying that she deserved it and snow is scolding him for giving her one
The biggest mistake about the Hunger Games is that the people in the arena actually fight. If they don't fight, there's no show. Yeah they can still get killed but the main plot of the Games is that the Gamemakers are doing everything to get the tributes closer to each other
That would be better yeah but, districts like 1 and 2 treat the hunger games also like a game and even train to be in it, those who win also gain prizes for there district, so the situation there in is, don’t participate and have people in your district killed including yourself or participate and potentially win prizes for your district and live in luxury for winning
not to mention contestants DID do this but the gamemasters would disrupt the arena (shrinking the borner, initiating natural disasters, releasing weird monsters) to make the tributes be more desperate for freedom, which can omly be achieved by being the last survivor
Basically you could also risk putting your family in danger. In the books Haymich (srry I don’t know how to spell his name) got his entire family killed because he won the games by using the force field barrier to his advantage (which he wasn’t supposed to do.)
Plus in the poorer districts resources are scarce, and they get money and food yearly from the capital so in desperate situations people will do all sorts 🤷🏼

I do believe there was another Victor before Haymitch but she died before the books took place

Typical male experience
I remember cringing when I read any of those parts. Poor dude,he was better than Katniss.

I couldn’t have said it better myself
Well someone has read the books.
@@mb.sj72 Man, I honestly wished somehow that Katniss would end up alone. Like, she doesn’t really need to choose between the two.
Kurt Vonnegut once said that he doesn't write about love because that is then all the story would be about.
Ah yes, my favorite Christmas movie. Teenagers dying, the movie.

The reason why Katniss going in was such an important event is because she was saving her sister and she was the first ever volunteer from 12. The same reaction wasn't there for Peeta since it was literally just a normal reaping, no volunteers. Just a random pick

My ears bleed every time I hear Elizabeth Banks talk.............😈
Yeah, I totally agree. Peeta's character was not as complex in the movies as the books...

The reason no one freaked out to Peeta getting picked or volunteered for him is cause that was kinda the point of why it was so dramatic that she volunteered. No one does that in district 12, not in a long time

True
@@kwcl176 yeah I dont think they even mention in the movies that Peeta has 2 older brothers that could've volunteered for him but didnt
This just proves that the books are a thousand times better (at least for me). Like, in the books you really get depth into what is Katniss thinking and how complex being a tribute is.
You get a good sense of that in the movie. He skimmed over a lot
I personally think the books are better, you get more of her point of view and what she was thinking
I agree. The movies are okay but they don’t do the books justice at all. Collins built such an interesting and complex world with amazing characters and the movies just weren’t able to capture it that well.
Of course the books are better, you get to see their thoughts. Almost every movie does that ( except for Twilight because Bella )

Let us appreciate that the movies are a translation/adaption of a fanfic of an adaption. Yes the novel Battle Royal is better.

Edit: finished the first book, angey
(Throughout the book series, Katniss feels as though she is constantly a pawn doing things for the benefit of others, she's never fully in control)
That's all I just thought it was weired they cut out such a good scene...
amazing analysis.
I never realized the foreshadowing bit 🤔
Even though I've read the books this gave me goosebumps

Watch out, Total drama
There isn't really a love triangle
@@albusdumbeldore9417 What do you call the thing with Gale?
It was so good, I finished it within like 3 days after it came out. the scene where she fires an arrow into the elites' viewing booth during the archery test ticks me off, because it implies that those in power NEVER BOTHERED to put up some defense in case someone would try and assassinate them during one of the tests
Yeah probably because they think that the people down their weren’t good enough to kill them, and people from the career districts that are good enough actually respect the capital so they wouldn’t hurt them
Probably because no one would actually try to, if you think so you didn't understand the books

Not to mention no one knows why the three finger salute is a big deal in the movies. It's never mentioned XD

@Jimins Jams yes the books are absolutely wonderful and so much better than the movies
It's sad that they cut out Madge but it does make sense, with limited time adding in new people can just be confusing, especially if they will only be in one scene.

i read the books otoo long ago, what do you mean by she didnt take the berries because of peeta? wasnt it so she could save both of them instead of just herself? or do you mean it's more to do with her incapability to kill someone rather than peetas life itself?
The series is a master piece imo
ofc he didnt talk abt rue, he didn't talk about anything that happened in the games, animating takes time you know
@@dankhnw8 I agree bro
@@beepbeep2918 Yeah that’s a fair point
